Black Crimson is the fourth and final book in the Fairy Tale Quartet series, and I can say that I absolutely adored this story. I was nervous, as I can't remember the last time that I read this type of retelling, and I was so curious to see how the author would handle this one. I definitely think the less common retellings, should be done right, and I definitely should have had more faith in this author because this book was EPIC! There was so much that I loved about this one and I didn't want to let go of this one. There was so much lively bantering, and depths of emotion that delivered in every way. And the conflict was done just right! I kinda predicted it, or at least partly, but the fun was seeing the other aspects to seeing it being resolved.

Our story begins with our heroine, going out to rescue her grandmother on a rainy night when she needs some help with technology, but on her walk to grandma's, she bumps into a stranger who has paint on his hands and face, has a sexy playful personality and is hooded. Even though he should come off as a creep, there is something that draws Camille to Brick despite how different they are. But she least expects to bump into him at a wedding reception, and he has been warned off of her. Camille likes her books and romantic tellings and dreams of a HEA, and our hero is more than content going from one woman after another, as he feels matrimony would be dull and boring and doesn't get the appeal....until Camille who intrigues him and he doesn't understand it. As they go through this standoff of bantering and playing with each other, they discover a hidden passion and a relationship worth fighting for, but there are secrets that could destroy them both.....

Black Crimson was such a delightful story and I absolutely had such fun with this one. I just didn't want to let this one go. In fact, I read this one a bit slower just because I was enjoying the moment so much. I couldn't seem to get enough of these two. They had such a fun relationship and the way that they banter with each other was so entertaining. I mean I have seen Brick in previous books and yeah he is a playboy for sure. The way that he falls for Camille was just perfect. Linda Kage really captured his downfall to monogomy just right! And the whole secret of him being a mural artist and on the run from the cops haha was super FUN! The connections that the author related this one to the retelling of "Little Red Riding Hood" was brilliant and just balanced the story so well.

Overall I had a blast with Black Crimson, and is one of my favorite books this author has delivered! If you love sexy retellings, playful bantering, and intricate layering in the relationship being built, then you definitely need to grab this one up and NOW!

Fairytale retellings, when they're done right, are some of my most favorite things to read. I was a little (just a little) nervous going into this one because I was late to this series (I have only read the last two), and I really wasn't sure what to expect from a Little Red Riding Hood retelling.

Well, I am here now to tell you: Black Crimson was done just right.

I was pulled in from the fun meet-cute and held in thrall while Brick and Camy met their match in each other. The connection - what we see of it - is more physical than I am usually drawn to, but somehow it worked for me with these two. Linda Kage managed to work some emotional depth into the physical encounters and I found myself with my heart all-in on these two characters.

This book, even more-so than the last one in the series, gave me a hunger for more of this series. I loved the friendships and the family dynamics that show up here, but it left me curious about where this all started. That said, I didn't feel like I wasn't able to enjoy this book not having read the others. It just piqued my curiosity and made me want to do a deeper dive on the series. Rest assured, Black Crimson satisfies all on its own - as a smart, spicy, swoony romance that was addictive and an absolute blast to read! If fairytale retellings are your thing, this is one not to miss! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The plot: This is a contemporary take on the "Red Riding Hood" tale. Camy and Brick accidentally meet one night, when she is on her way to her grandmother. They flirt a little and go their separate ways. But since that night they seem to be unable to forget each other.

This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a standalone.

What I didn't like:

1. just one thing - an overly sweet ending. It was too much for my taste. I get that Brick changed a bit for Camy, but still, I kind of did not want to see their future like that.

What I liked:

1. the plot. I definitely enjoyed this version of "Red Riding Hood". The scene where they first met is flirty, funny, and promising. It is obvious that something interesting is about to happen to them. I also liked how their friends and family warned them both to stay away, but in the end, gave up and made up some conditions under which Brick could hit on Camy. Well, this turned out not so bad after all. The plot twist closer to the end was a bit predictable, but still, the story was good.

2. the writing. The book is well--written, easy to read, and full of humor. I liked the author's sense of humor a lot and laughed at the characters' interactions frequently.

3. the characters. There are a lot of characters (from the previous books in the series) and they all are either relatives or friends. In the beginning, it was difficult for me to understand and remember who is who, so I even had to draw a diagram to make sense of all the connections. But as I read more, I could easily identify the character. I liked them all, I could say, but Brick is my favorite. Yes, he is a bad boy, but he is so sarcastic, funny, charming, and really determined, so it is easy to forget about his past. Two conversations that stood out to me most throughout the book - his conversation with his stepsister and his brother's wife in chapter 4 and his talking to Camille about handbags in his office (who thought this could be funny ever, but it was). Also, the chemistry between Brick and Camy was visible and undeniable.

4. the dual POVs. I have already mentioned this, but I love dual POVs. Especially in this case Brick's chapters. He is bold, flirty, and funny most of the time and it was a real pleasure to read his thoughts.

Content warnings: profanity, sex.

Overall opinion: I liked this book. The writing, the characters, the story - I enjoyed everything. The narration is gripping, entertaining, and humorous. If you enjoy romantic stories, modern takes on tales, and hot scenes, then definitely check this book out!

"—because wolves mate for life, and apparently my stupid inner wolf chose you.”

Black Crimson by Linda Kage follows Camille Blanchette, an aspiring journalist, and Broderick “Brick” Carmichael, a purse designer who happens to be Hayden’s brother from the previous book B & E Ever After.

I am a huge Linda Kage fan!! But apparently a fake one because I had no idea she had a series filled with fairytales retelling! Little Red Riding Hood happens to my favorite so I couldn’t resist this book.

Black Crimson is part of a series and can be read as a standalone BUT it should probably be read with the rest of the series because I felt like I missed out on a lot and had trouble keeping track of who was who.

Linda did such an amazing job with this book. Black Crimson was such a page turner and I literally couldn’t put it down. Brick and Camille were PERFECT for each other and matched each other in every single way from their inverted initials, B.C.and C.B to playful banters to feeling unwanted by their biological parents. I loved that Brick was utterly obsessed with Camille. Outside of his sexual banter Brick was incredibly sweet and affectionate towards her. I loved reading about their first time together and the moments after it.

“If my issues involve constantly craving you, then I don’t want the cure.”

This may also be considered a bit slow burn for some people. There was a lot of sexual banter throughout the book but nothing really happens between the two until a little more than halfway through the book.

I think the only thing that I might not have liked about the book was that it was a bit dragged out at times and also a bit predictable. I also didn’t like Camille’s eagerness to write an article/story on Black Crimson. And I do wish we got to see their relationship outside of the bedroom. I feel like once they were finally together there were only scenes of them at each other’s places and then the climax of the story happened.

But overall, I loved this book and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

✨ ENG ✨

Not reading the previous books in the series mean that I had no idea what I was gotten myself into. And hell, Linda Kage did it again.

She somehow managed to write a fun story and made me totally cry my heart out for the entire book.

Camille is a hell of an over-thinker (and I can't exactly blame her) while Brick is an expert sweet-talker. I don't think they have a lot in common except Black Crimson, which is a graffiti artist wanted by the police. She wants to be an editor in the newspaper she works for. He is a millionaire that doesn't want to know a single thing about commitment.

Their relationship starts as an accident (kind-of) but I definitely think they were meant for each other. They've become one of my favorite couples writing by Linda (and I have to say, that list is still growing).

✨ESP✨

As I read more and more of them, I realize that my perfect genre is new adult, fairytale retellings with the caveat that they aren't cheesy. If you are like me and that is totally your jam, you will love Black Crimson! (I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)

My initial reaction when I heard about this book was Is this going to be like Scarlet from the Lunar Chronicles, but better because of sexy times??? I. WILL. LOVE. THAT! And I was not disappointed.

Let's back up a minute. Black Crimson is the fourth book in the Fairy Tale Quartet series by Linda Kage. I have not read the first three books (which I will be rectifying immediately), and it didn't matter. I instantly was able to tell when the characters from the first three books showed up given context clues, but there wasn't really anything I didn't understanding because of missing something in the first couple of books. Truly can be read as a standalone, which is definitely a plus in my book.

What I liked about this book:
1. I loved both main characters.

The main female character, Camille (or her swoon-worthy nickname given to her, Mayhem), is thirty, single, an overthinker, and loves romance books, especially those good ole steamy scenes. Sooooo, she's totally relatable for me as a twenty-nine-year-old, redhead, overthinker who ALSO loves romance books and their steamy scenes.

Then there is Brick. Oh, sweet-talking, hump-em'-and-dump-em' Brick with the dirty mouth and panty-dropping smile. Our Big Bad Wolf. But Brick has a secret, since don't all the bad boys?!? Only, our lovely heroine discovers his secret at the beginning of the book and uses it to blackmail him in hopes to further her career. On top of that, Brick has been sworn off from sleeping with Cami from his little sister (aka Camille's friend and previous Linda Kage heroine). So of course that makes her irresistible to him.

2. Brick's flirting was ON POINT! Reading through the scenes of their banter was so fun, and the whole time, I'm just sitting there like
MonicaChill

3. The storyline and writing were very good. This definitely wasn't a retelling where I knew exactly what was going to happen and I liked that about it. It wasn't predictable and I liked being on my toes.

4. Linda Kage, you are a goddess. Thank you for all of the steamy scenes. I was expecting one really good scene and maybe a small one off here or there, but giiiiiiirl you DELIVERED!
AlyssaMilano

What I wasn't a fan of:
1. While the writing was fantastic, I would have loved to see more tie ins to the fairytale. This is a pretty loose retelling, which is fine, I just wanted more because I'm greedy.

2. Why didn't we get to see Camille's reaction to !?!? I needed this!!! Camille needed this!!! She made such a big deal about how no one knew her basket was really a purse, and he was the only one who would actually refer to it as a purse, and then he goes and does this incredible thing and we do not get to partake in the reveal/reaction with her.

I’ve been waiting for this book since the first one in the series! We finally get to find out who is the culprit who vandalizes the city with scenes from fairytales. First of all, I must say, again, that Linda has a way of writing that has you craving for more. That being said, let’s get on this story.

Camille and Brick were lovely together and on their own.

Camille is friends with the rest of the girls from the group. She is working at a newspaper in the sales department and her job dream is to be a writer. That’s why when she realizes who Black Crimson is she wants an interview knowing very well that this will make her writing debut. She is also the romantic of the group, has put together a reading group and she always chooses books with HEA. She is also a fan of Black Crimson.

Brick is a true Don Juan. He doesn’t do relationships and that’s ok for him. He is always cheerful and mischievous. And he hates weddings!! But what nobody knows is that this is his way of coping with an evil mother and lack of love. So when he sees Camille on a late night in a dark neighborhood, he acts but unfortunately for him, Camille is not impressed. When he sees her two weeks later at a party, he wants to try again but gets a big no from both his stepsister and his sister-in-law. That’s like a trigger in his brain and can’t stop thinking of Camille. I loved how patient he was with her and how his character was developed as the story unfolds. He was in denial, stating that he was better on his own and that’s why he was quick to end his attachment with Camille.

Camille also was having trouble trusting people but being a romantic, she was willing to risk her heart. I liked her for not giving up on Brick and for being brave to fight for something worth fighting.

I love this couple and makes me sad that the series is over. Also, if you think you know who Black Crimson is, you don’t! For that, you must read the book!

I hadn’t read the previous books in this series, which is something I plan to fix IMMEDIATELY. Because if they are as good as this one, I'm more than sure that they'll be one of my best readings this year.

Camille and Brick complement each other so perfectly that it makes me want something like that. Camille is a secretive force looking for a fairytale ending, while my beautiful Broderick despite being on a relationship "break" can't help but be captivated by the beautiful Cam.

At first I was a bit dubious about the whole thing about being so opposites, and having almost nothing in common. But I shouldn't have worried, because Linda always makes everything fall into her place.

I would definitely read this book over and over again, it is so sweet and beautiful that it makes me want to cry.

Please, PLEASE give this wonderful book a try, plus give any of Linda's other books a try, you won't regret it.

I simply loved this book! I genuinely didn't realize this was part of a series and thought that there was just some funky bit at the beginning when discussing some of the side characters' relationships. This book can truly be read as a standalone and I absolutely LOVE it!

Fairytale retellings are so popular in contemporary romance and rarely do you see one for Little Red Riding Hood. It starts a bit too on-the-nose but that quickly becomes overshadowed by the great characters of Brick and Camille and their hilarious personalities. I don't usually get overly invested in characters and relationships, but this was totally different for me. My chest ACHED as I got to the big climax near the end of the book. I simply couldn't believe what happened and for the first time, I didn't know how Brick and Camille were going to overcome it.

Truly, this book was so good and I can't wait to read the rest of them - and future books by this author!

I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Review can also be found on *Milky Way of Books*

Camille and Brick were two characters I had hopes for to become a couple. I loved all the interconnected stories inspired by fairytales and the story of this one inspired by Red Riding Hood was actually pretty funny.

When she finds out the face of the mysterious graffiti artists whose work has taken up to a vigilante look she will try anything to get an exclusive interview.

I thoughtfully enjoyed this book! It was funny, steamy with lots of cameo appearances and amazing characters. I always enjoy Linda's works as her characters could easily feel like real friends with their funny and emotional moments too.

This book was also amazing and easy to read. Recommended for its amazing characters and the slight twist to the tale.

This is the fourth in a series and my first book by Linda Kage and I really liked it. I have to say the first chapter felt a little surreal as I, Camille sat reading a romance on kindle while the character Camille sat reading a romance on kindle. Unfortunately I didn’t then bump into a hot guy like character Camille did on the way to her grandmas.
This is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood; we have Camille as Red or Mayhem as Brick calls her, Brick who in some way is suppose to epitomise the wolf and Granny features too.
First off I loved Brick and I loved Camille once she met Brick. Before that she had seemed kinda sad and desperate, and I was surprised she stood up to Brick like she did. The banter and chemistry between these two pulled me into the story. All the side characters got me excited to read the first three books in the series.
I would recommend to anyone who wants a light-hearted read with lots of steam, banter and an HEA.

I received an arc for an honest review

On a dark and stormy night, Camille is settling in to her comfy nest engrossed in her guilty pleasure paranormal romance, laughing at the cheesy romance lines, just as I'm doing cuddled up with this guilty pleasure fairy-tale retelling. Then it's off to granny's house where she runs into the big bad flirty graffiti artist dubbed Black Crimson. As an aspiring journalist, she's been following the story of this infamous artist and realized she has an inside scoop that could get her the promotion she wants. But to expose him would ruin the life of the man she's falling for...
I didn't realize this was the last book in a series, so I was a little lost on all the characters and connections that came before. Camille and Brick's story was unique, though, and enjoyable enough as a standalone.

I've been patiently awaiting for Brick's book ever since I read the Ezra and Kaity's book and LK did a great job with Broderick's story!!! Loooove this series, this group and the whole red riding hood fairytale aspect to it. The elusive, secretive Black Crimson has been causing a ruckus with tagging graffiti all over the city. Camille accidentally stumbles upon him one night and can’t shake this feeling that it’s him. He is so different from what she was expecting, and they have such special chemistry. There is sooo much more to him than anyone ever really sees. Love love love seeing the characters from the rest of the series.

This was a fantastic addition and great addition to the series. While Kaity,Hayden and Brick have a complicated upringing, they truly do love each other deeply. I love their sibling relationship grow and that ending, so sweet.

When it all started out with blackmail, I was really doubting Camille. I didn't really get too much of a feel for her in other books, but she brought me around. I almost died during the email snafu. Having a sister who actually sends emails and texts to the wrong person all the time made me really feel for her. Brick kind of reminded me of Ten. It made me want to see them together. I feel like they could be really good friends. The character who really almost stole the show though was Shaw. His gossipy old lady side gets me every time. I love him. The ending was really sweet and it was so nice to wrap up the stories. Mabel wasn't a huge favorite of mine, but I'm glad she got her happily ever after too.

I’ve really been looking forward to Brick’s story. He was one of my favorite characters from the beginning, and his charm did not disappoint. I loved how enamored with Camy he was from the beginning and that he had to work for her affection. Brick was a very complex character with an admirable commitment to his family. His relationship with Camy was based on trust and respect, which was very enjoyable to see. Their chemistry, of course, was off the charts, and the ending was absolutely perfect.

There were some slower points of the book, even though there were plenty moments of excitement. The conflict was very predictable and dragged on a touch too long for my preference, but the resolution was utterly satisfying. This story was a testament to family and overcoming past setbacks. There were elements of the Little Red Riding Hood story without it being overly cliche or cartoonish. Camy’s inner dialogue was a bit silly in the beginning, but the narrative quickly matured.

Overall, this was an incredible, modern-day fairytale retelling with plenty of passion, emotion, and drama. Kage always delivers, and this book was no exception.

Reviewing this book was an awesome experience. I have read numerous books by author Linda Kage, this one is my favorite so far. The plot twists are amazing and engaging. I really enjoyed the story so much that I finished the book in 24 hours. Yes, it’s that good! If you like to see happy endings with lots of different characters with real depth, this book is for you. Black Crimson was the book I didn’t know I needed to read. I will not spoil it for you but every single chapter was written well. I did receive the book for free but I have purchased several books from the author’s website. Again. Black. Crimson. Did not disappoint! Enjoy the ride!

Black Crimson is the fourth and final book in the Fairy Tale Quartet and it didn't disappoint. I've been waiting on Brick's story since we first met him.

Brick is a flirt and Camille is a romantic, together sparks start flying, and after a close encounter with danger the two fall into a relationship together. I enjoyed the drama and understood how they bonded as quickly as they did over the abandonment they faced as children.

I'm sad to see this series wrap up but I loved the retellings and can't wait to see what Linda comes up with next!

This was a cute story. It was my first retelling and I enjoyed it as there were little things bringing it back to the story. I haven't read anything else from this author but I will definitely be going through her catalog. It was a good story that was light hearted and didn't require any feelings being torn apart which sometimes this is totally needed. I say it's a great palate cleanser! Reading the about the author section it looks like that is exactly what she intends with her writing. Also the spice was hot so there's that lol.

I thought I'd read a light, heart warming contemporary romance, but at 25%, I really couldn't go beyond it. I found the main characters too clichés for my taste. The heroine seems fearless and knows what she wants but come on! And her counterpart is a rich playboy, albeit with a sad past, but still a callous playboy. The author tried to soften their personalities but they still rubbed me the wrong way. Let's just say that it's a case of incompatibility between the characters and I,and leave it at that.

Since I couldn't finish this book, I won't rate it.

I'm definitely Linda's Kage fun. At this point I've read 10+ of her books and enjoyed them all, and will read more from her in the future.

Black Crimson is a cleverly structured romance novel with refreshing characters, particularly the male lead. The dialogues are brisk and the pace of the development of the romance story is reasonable and believable unlike many books that rush events to the point of absurd. I recommend it

Wow… Wowee wow wow…. I haven't read any of the books before this one. Let me tell you, I fell in LOVE with Brick and Camille. Loved the storyline and the characters. The author makes you FEEL with these characters. My chest was so full of emotions. Now I have to get the rest just to catch up with all the characters and their tales. . .

A brilliantly written modern day fairytale about a scarlet haired heroine with trust and abandonment issues and a man who thought he was a villain in his life’s story without understanding why he wasn’t wanted or loved. Full of witty, sexy banter that makes you smile right through to emotional turmoil that made me cry. An excellent story that I highly recommend.

What a wonderful read! I adored these main characters. Camy and Brick are perfection. I loved their banter and chemistry. Grandma Mabel was also a perfect addition to this rollercoaster of a ride. Well written, red riding hood vibes, told in dual point of view. I absolutely loved this read!

Camille and Brick's story is in the fairy tale themed series BUT can be read as a standalone. Their story had the Red Hiding Hood theme with a modern day twist. Storyline was good, a romantic comedy, likeable characters and good banter with a surprise ending I really wasn't expecting.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Hated to put it down and couldn't wait to pick it up again! The characters were fun and engaging and the plot action was unique and unexpected. I loved how down to earth and playful Camille was and Brick (such a sexy name!) was delicious! Love his flirting with everyone! The sexual tension was perfect - linda kage is so good at this!
