The Take-Off : And Other True Stories by Indian Cyclists

Rate this book
Indian cyclists are having great adventures on the road but their stories are not widely known. For the first time, one can read true stories by 37 Indian cyclists, all in one book. Read stories by the top cycling champions representing India, as well as accounts by ordinary people pushing their limits. Each story will take you to a different cyclist’s ride and mind. Go from a suspenseful race finish by the national road cycling champion Naveen John in Jamkhandi to an amateur’s attempt to survive a race in Gujarat; from cycling in the deep jungles of Coonoor to training for a race during shutdown in Kashmir; from cycling alone to cycling in tandem. Lose yourself in the book or gift it to someone. Perfect for both adults and children, the stories are inspiring, thrilling and sometimes moving.

This book is a collection of short stories (the shortest story being 1.5 pages) of a range of people riding their bikes in India. Each chapter is written by a different individual depicting a specific story.

Adventures range from athletes sharing about the time they won a particular event to commoners trying to get to work on the bike to regular cyclists attempting long endurance rides such as an x km BRM to women riders sharing their adventures of a solo ride to stories of getting into an accident on the bike and the joy of picking it up after x number of years.

Some chapters are really well written whereas some make you go "😂 wtf".

Overall, I'm glad that this book was written and so many non-athletes got to share their experiences on the bike.
