My name is Laura M. Drake, and I'm the youngest of five kids. I grew up in Arkansas and moved to Utah to attend Brigham Young University. After spending three summers abroad in France, Japan, and China, I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and began teaching 4th grade near Salt Lake City. A few years later I moved back to Japan to fulfill a life-long dream of living there. When Covid got bad, I came back to America and have been living in Arkansas and writing full-time ever since. I'll soon be moving to UT and look forward to the new adventures that await me there. When I'm not writing (which isn't very often--I should probably get a life haha) I love playing ultimate frisbee, board games, writing in my journal, and spending time with friends and family.

If you haven’t read this series yet, this review is your sign to go pick up book one immediately. Seriously, go!! You will not regret it!

This entire series was just so damn good, the first book took me a little to get into but by the end of this last book I was so hooked and I wanted so badly for it to continue!!

I think the most refreshing thing for me was the fact that each book was from a different characters perspective. I’m going to be honest that at first I hated it lol. BUT! While at times it was kind of frustrating not knowing what was going on in other people’s heads, it was pretty interesting to see the progression of the story from people who weren’t the “prodigy”. I know Neil was portrayed as the “prodigal son” in all of the books, but we all know Emmie is the prodigy. It was a treat honestly to be able to watch the growth of an MC from other peoples perspectives. Usually you get little glimpses of other supporting characters’ thoughts or the storyline mainly follows the narrative of the MC. In this series? You get to meet and love Emmie, then watch her become an incredible person through the eyes of others. Was honestly so cool.

My only real complaint is that it feels a little unfinished…I mean, there’s three books from 3 peoples perspectives. There’s four people in this close knit friend group but you only get to read from Emmie, Gray and Neils perspectives. To me it would seem more complete if you also got to read a fourth book from Ivy’s perspective. Maybe more on her is to come later? 👀 *fingers crossed* I feel like the girl was put through the ringer and deserves her own story to be told!!

All in all, go read this series now!!!!

Untrained Magic was such a great conclusion to the trilogy! It left me happy and hopeful and I really enjoyed the journey with all the characters. The fight scenes were well thought out and implemented. The romance was amped up a bit between some main characters without being too mushy or taking away from the main plot. AND WHAT A PLOT! I believe this is the most mature plots of all three books. We leave the school setting completely. And we really get a deep dive into the culture and politics which I love! We also get more background about the monarchy and magic system and have a majority of the plot centering around claiming or bonding with the Origin Elements. I loved seeing Neil in his leadership role. I loved following Emmie as she got more confident and sure of herself while also in a leadership type role. And I just loved all the dynamics with the regions and individual characters and armies, etc. All around, this book and series as a whole was so well-rounded and balanced. I believe this series will stand the test of time and I’ll revisit the world of Andar often.

This series has had me hooked from the get go and this final book has it all. The start of this book had me bawling like a baby but then I picked myself and carried on with this amazing fight against dark magic. Neil and Emmies journey is extraordinary and hard but we do get answers to our questions, we also find out who is loyal and who is not!! We get to meet new characters and see old friends, there’s a quest to be fulfilled and fighting along the way and finally we get a little romance! There’s danger, drama, mystery and suspense with some intriguing twists thrown in along the way and that ending, well that had me biting my nails whilst perching on the edge of my seat it’s was so gripping and exciting! Overall it’s been one hell of a magical journey where we have met some fantastic characters along the way and I loved it!

In the epic conclusion of the Chronicles of Andar, we are in Neil's perspective now. Known as the prodigal son, we finally get an understanding and insight into his world and how everything works for him. When I started reading book two, I was frustrated that we completely changed perspectives, rather than doing multiple POVs throughout the series, but I have grown to enjoy the way the author separated their views out.

My biggest qualm is the series feels unfinished. Ivy is just as big of a player in this series and she is the only one who didn't get a book. I'm hoping the author will come back with a fourth installment or maybe give her a spin off, so that she can get her spotlight time as everyone else did.

This is the longest book in the Trilogy and what a ride its been! Friendship, sacrifices, loyalties challenged, lives changed, love and loss... a bit of everything.
This time we read from Neil's perspective, which took a bit to get used to but once I was past the first few chapters it felt pretty natural.
The action is ramped up, there's a touch more romance and the story flows nicely making the pages turn almost by themselves.
The Chronicles of Andar is a truely unique series that got better with each chapter.

Its an easy read, fast paced, great world building.

And it destroyed me a little bit.
So i have to come out of that reading slumb.

The conclusion to the series is very satisfying. Throughout the story I could really sense how conflicted he was and how difficult the situations they were facing really were. After the ending of the last book I really didn't have any idea how the story was going to wrap up and it took some really interesting turns. Overall a highly enjoyable read that actually left me wanting to explore the world of Andar more.

Such a great series.

The story itself is amazing. I had such a wonderful time reading this series. I’m happy with the way it ended. I would be even more happy if there was more to read haha. I highly recommend this series as a must read. It’s just as good as Harry Potter and the Avatar tv series combined.

This was a great conclusion to a wonderful book series! It took me through many emotions. The end of the second book shocked me.I wasn't expecting it and it set the scene for the third book. I could relate to Neil at the beginning of the third book. It was interesting to see each book from different characters points of view. I definitely recommend reading this series!

An amazing end to this trilogy. Follow along with Regent Neil as he faces uniting his kingdom and facing his feelings for the ones he loves. A heart tugging reminder that anything is possible with enough love from friends and family to guide you. Beautiful world building as well, this final book was a feast for the eyes, heart, and soul!

Excellent

This book was everything I needed it to be as the third book in the series. I had a hard time putting it down. It had just the right amount of fantasy and magic. I felt like I was riding right along with them through Andar!
