It is common knowledge that sugar makes kids hyperactive, have mood swings, and contributes to the childhood obesity epidemic. More and more studies are demonstrating its negative health effects on adults and children alike. Cutting sugar at an early age can help set your children up for a healthy adulthood and bestselling low-carb author Maria Emmerich is here to teach you how.
Emmerich is raising two boys on a diet free from processed sugars and centered around healthy protein and fat, and she’s seen firsthand how kids can thrive when they eat this way! Sugar-Free Kids arms busy parents with a wide array of sugar-free recipes that children will love. Not only does Maria keep kids’ picky palates in mind, focusing on familiar flavors and dishes, but she also recognizes that today’s families are strapped for time. The 150 recipes in this cookbook use readily available ingredients and are easy to prepare; in fact, kids can make many of these dishes themselves! From graham crackers and gummy bears to chicken nuggets, tacos, and pizza, moms and dads will find just about every food their children crave, without the sugar and processed carbs that make their brains foggy and can lead to health issues later in life. Maria also offers substitutions for kids who avoid dairy, eggs, and/or nuts and even provides a selection of vegetarian recipes. Sample recipes include: • Strawberry Breakfast Parfait • Chocolate Minute Muffins • Pigs in a Blanket • Touchdown Tacos • Crispy Baked Ravioli • Pizza Dog Casserole • Sweet ’n’ Sour Chicken Wings • Just Like Oreo Cookie Sandwiches • No-Churn Blue Moon Ice Cream

Another cookbook following the keto lifestyle. I didn’t try many of the recipes, but I do like Maria’s cookbooks. They are straight forward and have many pictures of the finished products. I wish they were spiral bound so they would stay open easier.
Nice looking book with great photos, and many of the dishes sound good, but a lot of the recipes use erythritol or other similar sweeteners; I'm not down with that.
An incredible resource for parents of kids and/or grown up picky eaters (like me)! The beginning of the book is full of interesting and easily understood information around the micronutrients kids need to help them grow and exactly what organs/bones/processes these micronutrients help fuel. There is also a colour chart to easily decipher which foods/ingredients are great or allowed and make up what kids should eat (green), what they can moderately consume (yellow) and what they should stay away from (red). I’ve read about the GI index before (this colour coding system) but this helped me visualize and commit it to memory a bit easier. The recipes are simple and you don’t need to go out and buy too many specialized ingredients! And the recipes are all delicious! I especially liked the blueberry cheesecake muffins and the meaty lasagna bowls! I highly recommend this book to all parents - even if you aren’t concerned/ actively monitoring your kiddo’s sugar levels.
Fantastic resource with healthy, kid friendly recipes. This book uses real food ingredients and natural sweeteners. She also makes the food look fun, while also easy to make. The information in the front of the book is invaluable. So thankful I found this one.
