Getting kidnapped by an assassin isn't nearly as much fun as reading about it.
Ajay-
I’m a librarian, but hiding who I am means my only adventures are between the pages of a book.
The assignment is simple, be invisible, do my job, and live a boring mundane life. It should have been easy, a cake walk, as I’ve done it most of my adult life, until I looked into his stunningly bold dark eyes. Kingston.
He is a charming personified, searching for something I’m not. So many fantasies conjured in my head until he shattered them by kidnapping me. I’m his captive for crimes unknown. It is only a matter of time before he kills me. And I’ve ruined it by falling for him.
Kingston-
I’m an assassin, looking for my next thrill, for my next Wild Hunt.
The assignment is simple, study the target, kill them, leave no evidence. It should have been easy. I’ve done it for a few years, until I looked into his unfathomably deep green eyes. Ajay.
He is shy, definitely hiding something, and too old for me in the world’s eye. Fantasizing about him is a bad idea, but so is developing feelings for him. He doesn’t know what I’m capable of, and when he’ll discover it’ll be too late.
I came to steal his life, his soul. What I didn’t count on was him stealing mine, and we becoming a target of someone else’s Wild Hunt.
Welcome to the dark world of Malicious Gods: Egypt. A collection of mm standalone modern tales, both magical and non-magical, featuring deities from Ancient Egypt. You’ll find reincarnated Gods, assassins, gangs, madness, and different realities. Expect high heat and morally ambiguous themes. Seductive and often twisted, they are not for the fainthearted.
I’m not exactly sure what that was. The premise was so incredibly promising! It had all these ingredients to make a great story but this just fell really flat for me.
Neither MC was very likable. At all. I found them to be boring and lacking depth. There wasn’t very much common sense used, especially for an assassin! There were A LOT of eye rolling moments.
This could have used another round of editing as well, as it was riddled with grammatical errors throughout.
Maybe this is a book aimed an audience I’m just not sitting in. And that’s okay, author don’t write for everyone. Definitely give it a go and form your own opinion.
Slightly farfetched Interesting plot, with lots of potential, although not much to do with Egyptian gods - except for the odd name of a super secret organization and its supposed purpose. The intrigue of hidden truths, the not too exaggerated attraction between the two protagonists, and the thrill of survival in the most improbable way all contribute to a nicely gripping storyline. However... A hardened killing machine assassin who actually calls himself a "badass assassin," a meek (but maybe not so meek) librarian target, unfathomable reasons why said assassin hesitates this one time...and a few other questionable details that would bring up spoilers... All take this tale beyond the realm of fiction and into the unbelievable, in many areas. Interesting read, but not one of Neya Sara's best
I'm not sure if this author has ever published before, but if not, this is a good first book! The story is cool, but there's a lot of background missing. It feels like a lot was packed in that wasn't necessary for the main plot, and the end is extremely rushed. The last chapter introduced a dozen new characters, plot points, history, and didn't tie up all the things that had happened in all the previous chapters. There are also a lot of editing errors, but they're pretty minor. Overall, I'd say 3-3.5 stars, not a bad first book, not a bad story, but I'd normally expect to read this on a free site rather than purchase it. I look forward to seeing what Neya writes next!
The first few chapters of this were so readable, I really wanted to know what was happening and what was going to happen with Kingston and Ajay. I overlooked sentences that made no sense because the idea was interesting.
Until the whole thing went nuts. The choices by the characters and what the author chooses to do go beyond absurd. There's a corrupt assassins guild that could have been interesting, but gets ridiculous. The romance makes no sense in how it develops (derails.) The ultimate revelations at then end are garbage that came out of nowhere and served no purpose. I can't believe how it started versus how it ended.
