Emory Ker

Who makes out with a random guy at a club while someone else is giving him head? Not me—that's who. I'd never even hooked up with a stranger. Welp, now I had. If you could call what I'd done hooking up. But it was so much more intimate than a hook-up. I'd tasted his lips as someone else made him come. He'd gasped into my mouth.
Now I was sitting in front of him and he was asking me to kiss him again.

River Wade

We became famous overnight.
One day I was a twenty-four-year-old drummer slinging pizzas to make ends meet and the next, I was a member of the most popular alternative band ever.
Despite being world-famous, there was no connection in it. I'd lost touch with reality. With intimacy. I couldn't find a place to be normal. I'd lived my entire life straight-edged while watching obsession destroy my best friend.
Obsession terrified me.
That is until I met him.
The first taste left me intoxicated.
The rockstar obsessed with the writer—rather funny if you think about it.
After a night with him, he vanishes into thin air, and all the money in the world can't help me find him.
I have to track him down and convince him there might be millions of people who would do anything to get a chance to sleep with me, but I only had eyes for him.
Convince this beautiful boy I'm pretty obsessed.

Pretty Obsessed is an out-for-you romance, with a dirty-talking, obsessive rockstar who falls for a cinnamon roll writer. This is book one in The Pretty Broken series. All books follow a different couple.

When not staying up all night writing, J.R. Gray can be found at the gym where it's half assumed he is a permanent resident to fulfill his self-inflicted masochism. A dominant and a pilot, Gray finds it hard to be in the passenger seat of any car. He frequently interrupts real life, including normal sleep patterns and conversations, to jot down notes or plot bunnies. Commas are the bane of his existence even though it's been fully acknowledged they are necessary, they continue to baffle and bewilder. If Gray wasn't writing…well, that's not possible. The buildup of untold stories would haunt Gray into an early grave, insanity or both. The idea of haunting has always appealed to him. J.R. Gray is genderqueer and prefers he/him pronouns.

this gif about represents my facial expressions while reading this book:

description

there was just something off and stilted about this book. the insta... everything + the awkward writing style = me being confused af the whole time.

and i know “obsessed” is in the title... but a little more buildup would have been grand lmao.

i mean, this is at 6%:
I wanted to worship at the altar of Emory. I could have stayed in a hotel room with him for a year and never wanted to leave. Content to bask in the glow of his warm flesh.

all they’d done is kiss😭 ...while River was getting a blow job from a woman FOR AN HOUR! and the way they conversed during it was casual af as if River didn’t have his dick out and in a prostitute’s mouth was wild. kinda funny, honestly.

but then, their dialogue once they started speaking threw me off. they both (but River especially), spoke like a Victorian upper-class gentleman. all he needed was sideburns and a cane, and the man was the protagonist of a Dickens’ novel.

“What a conundrum

Drats, I was at risk of being rude to the poor girl doing her job”

“while one's dick was in one's hand”

“Pardon me, I wasn't trying to give offense. I was merely—”

“When was the last time you ate? You look dastardly.”

“Isn’t this how one gets to know someone, or perhaps my fame has jaded me?”

Your words have merit. I’m not disagreeing, but last night was the exception not the rule. Not my usual practice.”

and don’t get me started on the way Iris, River’s best friend, spoke. he was like Heathcliff, Hamlet and Darcy rolled into one... basically a Byronic emo on steroids.

i do enjoy some waxing of poetics when it’s a) within the inner monologue and not overly used, and b) not used in the dialogue. bcos seriously, no one talks like that. it just makes the conversations sound pretentious and stilted.

and it was actually pretty difficult at times to decipher who was talking when Emory and River were having a conversation— not only did they sound really similar with their poetic speech, but the author did a poor job signalling who was actually speaking. like there’d be dialogue in quotations... and i struggled to figure out which one of them it was coming from.

i will say, the poetic dirty talk was new? and i kinda vibed with it? it was pretty fun to read bcos it was so different. but the unprotected sex after they had just met... was not a vibe. like they legit couldn’t be arsed to stand up and go into a separate room to grab a condom so forgo using one😭 y’all just met!!

and there was zero prep. just a raw, dry arsehole. yummy.

so i just had to stop at the sex scenes bcos they were just... weird lol.

The way these people talked was absolutely ridiculous. No one actually speaks like that.
It made it very hard to connect with anything that was said.

It was lust or love or obsession (or whatever the hell you want to call it) at first sight. Completely superficial and no depth whatsoever.
The only thing that I found enjoyable was their first meeting at the very beginning. I actually thought it was kind of cute. Unfortunately, after that it all went downhill.

The two love interests were also really weird. I didn’t understand their inner thoughts at all, and I felt no connection to either of them.

The plot and writing-style made it hard for me to keep my eyes open and not drift off to sleep. It was so stiff and boring.

There was more focus on and depth to this random side character than there was on either of the two main characters. I found this to be very disorienting, as I don’t understand why I should randomly care about this other character so much (FYI, I didn’t).

I thought about skimming some of the scenes, but then I realized I didn’t even want to continue reading any of this. So, to what point would I be skimming?
Nothing about this book seems good or interesting. Everything felt empty. Simple as that.
So, I had to quit. I’m not that much of a masochist.

I really don’t like it when the main action in a book is sex. Sex sex sex.. I ended up skipping page after page because it got repetitive and boring. Yeah , there was a plot somewhere in there but it was too insignificant compared to hundreds of pages of sex. I liked both MCs a lot and I liked the chemistry and how they met . A shorter book with less sex on page and more tender moments would have been better in my opinion.

Whoa, what a ride! Where to even begin..
I’m all over the place with this book.

This review is going to be one trope at a time:

Let's start with the threesome trope, because I'm usually not a fan. When people are deeply in love, I don't really like when they add another person. However I didn't care in this case, because it only happens in the beginning when they meet for the first time.

I think it's worth noting that this only happens in the very beginning, when they meet each other. When they're getting to know each other this didn't happen again, so it didn't really bother me.

I LOVED River and Emory together. They’re super cute and steaming hot, which makes the miscommunication trope extra annoying! The amount of times I screamed in frustration at this book... 😩
They are really cute and sweet though, making me feel extra single.
And the spice … 🌶🥵

Next up; the way they spoke. Is there a fancy language trope I’m not aware of? Honestly, for the most part I quite liked it. However some sentences and words just felt out of place. There was something just a little off.

And last but not least; the instant love trope. In this case maybe more an instant obsession. Again, mixed feelings. I like someone who knows what he wants and goes for it, it was just a bit much.

Overall it was a fast and enjoyable read.
If you like steamy m-m smut and over the top love declarations, definitely give it a shot!

Nice ideas but clunky writing and stilted, awkward dialogue. I liked the thought of writer and rockstar but I found the mc’s voices to be unnatural and indistinguishable. Iris, the troubled band member, was the most interesting part of this book for me. The mc’s lack of communication didn’t match their actions and the plot disappeared behind all the sex scenes.

From about half way there is a mild D/s theme with some talk of ownership which frankly feels unhealthy given Emory’s history and then a random primal play scene at the end with no safe words, no lube and some cringey internal monologue.

Im not a fan of surprise, unsafe kink elements thrown into the books I read. Either go all out and do it well or none at all please.

I have many hostile thoughts on this one. And some..... slightly less hostile ones.

1. I'm not sure this is an 'out for you' romance, considering this only becomes reality 30 minutes to the end of an 11 hour audiobook. For the rest of it, they're only out to their individual best friends. But hey.

2. This book relies sooo heavily on angsty miscommunication that about 60% in, you're so frustrated by the MCs. They both want the same thing but the extent they go to not be the first one to say it is comical. You kissed this man a few minutes after you met him, WHILST he was getting a blow job but telling him you want to be exclusive requires months? And then the self-defeating rules! Emory🤦🤦🤦

3. This is one of those books where the secondary characters have a more intriguing story than the primary MCs. I'm so curious about Iris and Cas that I will read every book in this series until I get to theirs( because if there's as much breadcrumbing about their romance in the intervening books as there was in this one, then I can't afford to skip any)

4. What on earth does Octavius have against River? It's comical😂😂😂😂😂. He was on page for a total of maybe 5 minutes but he made sure each one counted (heavily against River)

5. Who names their child RIVER? As a first name. Sigh. No wonder Emory struggles with taking him seriously. River does not sound like a person who can settle. There's literally constant motion afoot. I jest. But seriously. River?

Basically, this is an almost okay book. Mostly because the back and forth between them gets old really fast(I was honestly really into this book at the start)

Would I have given it 2 stars? Yes. BUT.... There's enough to hook you into wanting more of the series. And I think it would be unfair to rate it so low if it accomplished enough for me to want to continue.

"And there he sat, perfectly in the flesh, black hair that glowed under red-tinted lights, and full, fuck-me lips turned into a conflicted pout. The object of my attention was a young man. He was art."

J.R. Gray is a new-to-me author and what a fabulous first read Pretty Obsessed was 💜💙.

I loved everything about this book and was completely invested in River and Emory from the first chapter. And what a first chapter it was 🔥🔥🔥. This is steamy, romantic, angsty, story telling - and I was totally here for it 🖤.

River is a drummer in a hugely famous band - and not what you'd expect of a rockstar. He's bi, but has kept his private life private, partly on account of his status as 'Rock God'. Emory is a very successful writer, he's gay and out. And when they meet, the connection is instantaneous, full of chenistry, passionate and totally HOT 😈.

The band is full of totally captivating characters too and I can't wait to follow each of their stories. I love it when the secondary characters bring so much to the story.

Several tough topics, so check out the author's TW.

This is not your standard rockstar romance. Go read it.

Highly recommended.

4 steamy ✨✨✨✨

Whoa that was quite good. I did feel like Iris's depression stole the show more than Emory and River though and he wasn't even a main character.

And I'd have loved to know how that conversation at the end had gone down, in fact I was actually looking forward to it but well.

One thing I'm not looking forward to is Iris and Cas' story if they have one. I mean, I loved Iris and all but I really think he needs someone better, preferably someone from outside the band.

I'd like to start by feverishly applauding our girl Lavender for her contributions to the first chapter of this book. Honey, you earned that big tip River left you, even if it wasn't you that brought things to a finish. Now got get yourself some Advil for your jaw and chase it down with a gallon of water. You must be parched.

This book drove me crazy. Most of the time I wanted to scream at both Emory and River. Drama caused by a lack of communication is such a dependable plot device, but it gets old after awhile. I'm forgiving of it for the most part because I realize there has to be something keeping the relationship from being perfect at first, but it is so frustrating when you know one mature conversation would clear everything up. I understood both of their hang-ups, I really did, but it could have been easily resolved with words since the actions were already there.

Despite the communication infraction, I really liked this book. The way River and Emory met was really hot. Actually, the whole book was really hot. The MoMA scene alone was...whew! There was so much on page sex, which can sometimes feel like too much but didn't in this book for some reason. Maybe I was just in the right mood for it. And it was offset by so much sweetness. These men were very caring towards one another and the people around them. I loved how River looked after his best friend, Iris, and how Emory not only accepted their closeness, but also formed his own bond with the troubled lead singer. I don't know if the next book is about Iris, but I hope it is. He came dangerously close to stealing the show in this one.

I also loved the power dynamic between River and Emory. Even though Emory kept granting River ownership over him, it was in a way that didn't relinquish his own power over himself. It was very "take what you want because no matter what it is you want, I want it too", rather than any kind of subservience. Other than not being great at communicating, they were mostly on the same page and could not for the life of them keep their hands off each other. They were also very respectful of each other and understanding in regards to the demands of their careers. Emory was probably a little too respectful of what he thought River needed, but if they'd just talked about things...

This book may have also had a bit of a backstory issue; specifically a shortage of it. There was some talk of dads, but no moms or siblings. River didn't curse, but I never really knew why. He also spoke in a way that made me think he was British at one point, but then he said he was born and raised in Chicago so I guess not. There was also a lot of emphasis on River's friend group, but Emory's poor friend Octavius was mostly overlooked (maybe he'll be in a future book?). It wasn't a big deal, just questions that came up as I was reading.

Overall I enjoyed reading this story and loved the characters and am super excited about Pretty Toxic. I'm dying to know who it's about.

★★★★ Four Stars!

I go into every book I read wanting to love it. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don’t. Some books catch me by surprise. Good or bad. This caught me by surprise and in a good way.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I can’t really give you an explanation on why I felt I might not enjoy this. It was like the same feeling you sometimes get when you just know you’ll love a book but cannot explain why.

I really enjoyed our main characters, Emory and River. I also really enjoyed that they didn’t have that third act breakup scene. While I don’t mind those scenes it’s nice when a contemporary romance doesn’t follow that book structure.

My only issue is that the author did use the miscommunication trope. I know this is an unpopular trope but I don’t really find that the author used it in a bad way. But just more like the characters were speaking to each other but not quite getting their point across. Which could be annoying but didn’t really bother me till it got dragged out a bit too long for my taste. So long story short an unpopular trope used but not used in the worst way. But could have been used better somehow.

There was also some focus on some of the other side characters who I’m sure will be the main couple of the next book in this series. We didn’t really get to see much of the one but we got to see lots of the other. The one we got to know a bit better I really do enjoy and look forward to reading his story and romance.

Overall, a solid rockstar romance. I would recommend. Also I’m looking forward to the sequel because it features my favorite trope, enemies-to-lovers!

This book blew my mind. It was so beautifully written and almost poetic but not quite. The dialogue was so beautiful and thought out the words they said to each other was so meaningful and sometimes had double meanings. There were so many quotes in this book i loved. I usually dont save quotes because I haven’t read any that caught my eye but this book was just plain beautiful.
This isn’t a typical rockstar love romance. River Wade is a rockstar a drummer and he meets Emory in a sex club where Emory is a best selling author and loves to write at the club.
It’s not just a typical sex club where the mc is a playboy and constantly goes. He craves intimacy. He is touch starved and hardly partakes in any of his body’s cravings. He yearns for a connection with another body skin on skin. I dont want to give away too much but when they first kiss its explosive and they swallow each others gasps and then Emory disappears. Obsessed is not just about obsession. Yes he has a mild obsession with Emory but its more like he’s so smitten and already so emotionally invested in this stranger.
I just cant stress enough how amazingly written this book was. I’ve never read a book from this author but he/she/them are so talented i would never say this about any other author. I’ve read typical tropes that meet my criteria but this one just blew my mind. It was lyrical, it was beautiful, it was intimate. The passion and intimacy was so well done. I just loved this book to death and its definitely one of my favorites! Read it now and u wont be disappointed!!!!!! Thank u so much JR Gray for sharing this book with us. I am now going on a marathon of his books!!!!!

I don’t know how to feel about this. It might actually be 2 stars, but I liked some scenes (very few). But this was mostly sex. Like a good 75% was them just having sex and they don’t even get together until the last 5%. I’m only continuing for Cas and Iris.

Is there a way to agree .... when bed sports are in a book. There is one full on action scene every 300 pages. Heavy petting sprinkled around, when necessary.

This one started off with intrigue. Emory is a writer. As what usually happens, writers block has set in. What luck, he has a friend that's a bartender at a uber exclusive club. Why not tag a long.

It's a sex club! But becomes the perfect environment to spark those writing juices.

Ah! I am a beginner in the daily writing field of study. I know changing your venue, does wonders for the page count. A sex club is just cheeky.

Anyway! Emory is engrossed in writing, while at this club. Nothing clears the mind of clutter. Better than people engaging in acts of debauchery out in public view.

Until one night a feeling of eyes are on him. As he discretely looks up. The guy across the room is staring at him. So Emory walks over.

They talk! This guy just loved his last series. A young adult adventure novel. He regales Emory with praise. That book got him through a gig. Oh its River, River Wade member of the Bad Habits ( I think that's the bands name)

Also while all this intellectual minded conversation is going on. River is being serviced.

Clutch the pearls! Don't worry River is just touch starved. Before the convo can continue. River has to ditch his lovely companion.

Oh my! It's some time later they happen to meet again. This time River brought his band mates to run interference on the bartender. So River can get to know Emory better.

A few chapters in then I fell asleep. It's a side effect of to many smexy scenes. But I powered through it. Thank goodness for Instagram. Also loads of emails.

If you weed out the excessive scenes. One comes to understand the dynamics of the band. How paparazzi are thirsty to expose them. How River was the odd man out. As his other band mates coupled up, after the first year on the road. How they didn't see he had issues. Cause they were fighting their own personal demons and vices.

This only got ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ because I chose the audiobook. It would have been a victim of my dnf list, in any orher format. Oh 1 point for Emory being a writer. Took away one point for excessive sex. One could have implied they were going to pound town. Also the report/writer doing an article tropes, is tired and outdated.

I rarely give 1 star reads because it makes me feel like a big old meanie, BUT…..

I just can’t with this.

Sorry, not sorry, but this was…. Not good. At all.

Both River and Emory are boring as bat sh*t and I have no investment in them whatsoever, so I’m not even going to waste time on it.

Moving on…

Let’s start with the jumpy dialogue - who is speaking to who/what/when?! There is no deliberate separation of the two main characters when they’re having a conversation and their language and tone are practically identical. It just reads as though one character is having a conversation with themself.

Next - what is with all the fancy language? Is this based in the 1800’s and nobody told me? Are these guys (including River’s best mate Iris, aka Dickens’ gift to emo) wearing tailcoats and top hats? The term “drat” came up and I practically recoiled so fast I dislodged my spine.

Lastly, we need to talk about that first sex scene. No, not the weird sex club semi-threesome, but the one in River’s hotel room. No condom, no prep (I feel so bad for Emory’s butthole) and it just… slid right in? Really? Just like that, huh? Please. None of the sex scenes were written very well, they were just… there.

After about the 25% mark I knew this was a lost cause. I still finished it to the end, and I will admit there was some sweet stuff that I liked, but nowhere near enough for me to get over all the other issues I had.

I hope other readers had a better experience with this one.

I would've given this a 3 star if the characters were even slightly likeable. Like, from the very beginning I didn't give a damn about any of the characters and it just got progressively worse from there.

I think part of this was also me. I was expecting something a little plot heavy, something with the lifestyle of gay musicians, but this was all sex with a semblance of plot thrown in. Like, if you need a book with almost zero plot but good smut? Read this.

Another issue I had was River and Emory's voice sounding waaaaay too similar. It would be River narrating a chapter and for the longest time I'd read it as Emory's POV. But at least we get Dual pov. But if you thought dual pov made it better? Wrong. SO WRONG. The number of times I wanted to strangle the characters because OF THE UNNECESSARY YEARNING THEY PUT US THROUGH! LIKE WHY?!

Wow! This book was everything and I am Obsessed with Emory and River, even if I was silently yelling at them to use their words for half the book LOL
These two had amazing chemistry, even from the first super awkward introduction. I love how bold they were with each other, physically, even if it took them a while to be able to express their emotions. I love how fiercely they wanted and needed each other, and how they managed to fit into each other's worlds.
This book left me happy and gooey, even while there was plenty of really good heat between these two. I can't wait for the next one.

Rockstar Romance - (Pretty Broken Series)

There are several books in this ‘Pretty Broken’ series but they aren’t numbered. I wish they had been because I’d already read two others in the series that covered events that had not happened yet in this book.
It threw me off a bit.

I’ve enjoyed all 3 books so far, even though 2 of them really highlighted the harshness of the celebrity life, particularly in the music industry.

Alcohol, Sex, Drugs and lonely Rockstars, Groupies, Fans and bad Management all add to the chaos of River Wades life.

He had grown up in an abusive home with parents who were addicts, at 12 years old he was drinking himself but stopped when he saw he was becoming like his father.

Now he is the solid, parent like member of Pretty Broken, though very lonely, he’s trying to take care of his friends, especially Iris Black, the Lead Singer and Songwriter (don’t know why the author used such a feminine name) who is slowly killing himself with drugs, alcohol and orgies. Iris grew up in same abusive atmosphere as River, that’s how they bonded so well as friends.

Then one night in a very weird ‘situation’ at a sex club, River meets Emory Ker, a writer. Despite the awkwardness of the ‘meeting’ they had chemistry and River wants to know more about Emory Ker.

But first he has to find Emory who left in a hurry.

***************

There are several secondary characters here who got their own stories, that I’ve already read. But more is to come about Iris Black and Caspian (Cas).

Reading of the addictions and their impact was hard going especially when I’d connected with the character.

TW, if you have triggers around drug and alcohol abuse you might need to consider something else to enjoy reading.

An endless rotation of
•sex scene
•lamenting about how they love each other but won't tell each other
•sex scene
•"are you sure you want me aound you? (Even though neither of us have said anything to indicate there may be a problem and these conversations are clearly only in place to reinforce imaginary issues since otherwise the plot that's already hanging by a thread will be completely lost)"
•sex scene
•And repeat

Even still, I would have pushed through and passed it off as a quick read. I'm fine with reading something with no substance on occasion, it can be enjoyable purely because of how shallow it is. Dumb and easy, like watching trash TV after a rough day.
But I CAN'T keep sitting through all these books where the author has been too lazy and unmotivated to give their characters individual personalities. "This husk is cool rock man. This husk is nerdy writer twink boy. They have the same methods of thought and speaking, but don't worry! They've got different eye colors!"
And on top of THAT, it's getting really boring reading about saints. Characters who's only flaws are already overcome by the start of the book, left in their past. Oh, he got angry at somebody one time? And the anger was justified? But now that's his darkest secret because "boohoo I don't wanna be a meanie?" Tragic, I guess I'll applaud him for working so hard to... Constantly feel bad about having never done anything wrong? No one is perfect. Give your characters some humanity. Sloppy, condemnable, idiotic humanity.
I'm tired. This book is certified Very Not Good.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Pretty Obsessed starts a new series by J.R. Gray. The series features different members of the band Pretty Broken, and River, the band’s drummer, gets the first story. River is in his early 20s and his band went big after their music was posted online. Since then, they have been on the move nonstop, between recording albums and touring. River is pumped to be a rockstar, but it’s more isolating than he thought it would be and he craves companionship and intimate touch. He thinks going to a sex club is filling this need, but River realizes he doesn’t want to be touched by just anybody and his experience with Emory has him craving more. The blurb suggests that it takes time for River to track down Emory, but he finds him the next day (on two separate occasions) and it really doesn’t play that much into the story.

Emory and River are hot as fire and sweet as sugar. These two are definitely something. The writer and the rockstar have an instant connection at a sex club of all places…who goes to a sex club to focus and work as a writer?…Emory does. River becomes absolutely obsessed with Emory and has to be with him whenever he can. These two agree to a friends with benefits kind of arrangement and have some pretty steamy times. I just wish they would have talked a little more. It’s a good book and worth the read but that was my one frustration with it. The relationship River has with the rest of his band was also intriguing. The guys in the band needed to sit down and realize that forcing your wants and wishes on someone, even when part of it is in their best interests, is not the right thing to do. I love how by the end of the book, they have it all mostly worked out. I wouldn’t mind seeing Iris get his own happy ending at some point either.

So much potential!

This story sucked me in right away. The chemistry between River and Emory was instant and really hot! I enjoyed their dialogue and their time together.

I really loved River’s friendship with Iris. I will say that Iris appeared wayyyy too much in this story. He is an incredibly breathtaking character but I would have rather have had him appear less here and get his story in his own book. I feel like we got to know so much about him and his struggles and not so much of River and Emory’s.

I really loved River and Emory but they had a TON of sex and I wish to see their relationship build outside of the bedroom. Also miscommunication was a huge plot in this story which is a turn off for me.

The last 70% felt repetitive and River and Emory’s HEA seemed rushed.

I’m a sucker for a rockstar romance, so I’m looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.

I have SO many qualms about this book. First I know Iris and Cas are going to get together but dear heavens I wish they wouldn't.

I want to read the next book, but this one has put me off a bit.

Was it bad? No. But the miscommunication with them being so unbelievably communicative was asinine.

For the big talk to happen at 94% was absolutely laughable.

They were just a mix of talking (without talking) and sex the whole book.

Talk of protection was nice but also no prep...???

They were big on ownership and got into primal play toward the end. Ownership felt like a stand in word for boyfriend or partner but only for the reader and not the two idiot characters.

The way they communicated was so eloquent, posh and just erotic. The book was erotic.

But for heavens sake for them to be eloquent in their speech due to being artists (writer and musician) that couldn't use it to pull their head out their asses.

3.5 and that's generous.

I enjoyed the characters a lot and their dialogue, but the plot was just not there for me, waiting for what you wanted to happen to actually happen was torturous and not really in a good angsty way??? I hope Iris has a book because I love him 😭🖤

Bi-awakening, instant attraction developing into more, intensity and chemistry, vulnerability and weight of the past, multidimensional MCs, engaging storytelling.
I loved how Emory and River slowly opened up to each other sharing pieces of themselves, how sex was not the only thing that connected them. At the same time I wish they talked about their true feelings and wants sooner. The story felt dragged at times. Still, I was fully immersed in it and want more of this world and the characters. Looking forward to Iris' story and hope to see more of Emory and River in it.

I loved the mystery in this one as River goes on the hunt for Emory. The connection was immediate and electric. This sets a high bar for the rest of the series.
