After narrowly escaping destruction, Nicholas and his crew find themselves flung far across the universe with no way home. When a distress call from a nearby planet catches their attention, they decide to investigate with the hope the signal is somehow connected to their arrival.
It isn’t long before the truth of Foresight’s mission comes into clearer focus, and Nicholas doesn’t like what he sees. He already knows there’s something disturbing about the circumstances of their escape.
The truth is more unsettling than he could have ever imagined.
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

Heh, finished this book over a month ago, but never bothered to enter it into amazon (silly me), until just now when I tried to read more on it, and saw I'd already finished it the last time I had it open Ahh well. Don't think I will be continuing this series though. I have other books by this author I'd like to read, but this series just doesn't strike me as being interesting enough to spend my time reading the adventures of the folks involved. Don't really like them all that much to be honest.
I would rather have another vasectomy than to read anything more that Forbes writes. It would be an upgrade to say his characters are one dimensional...at least then they would have dimension. But rather, each is a void. Empty of anything that would make memcar about their deaths. What a complete waste of such a fascinating concept.
The captain, so forgetable that I dont remember his name, is going to go the big asteroid ship, be betrayed by annintelligence hybrid, and then leave with two stow aways from the ship. Then, he is going to have everything just right so that he can fold inside the asteroid mothership and destroy all of the bad guys in the baddest bad guys home layer (Shab Negoo). But the stow aways somehow can interface with his ship, magicLly determine the coordinates and layers it is going to, and then in real time communicate it back to the sentient ship so that it doesn't die...keeping everyone alive. And the captain is like "Oh. Yeah. Stabbing me in the back and jepardizing the multiversw is totally cool. No harm ..except.all those people who just died. But whatevs.
I hope that Forbes is cursed.with bluetooth connectivity issues for the rest of his life for the...i dont even want to call them bad books as that is an insult to.bad books...but for the words he has put on paper.
This raises the bar on what I call the "Parallel Universe" genre and Forbes does a good job keeping the reader from getting confused with all the layers, slipping between them, and a whole bunch of new ideas. I wonder how much further anyone can push parallel universe stories without crossing into "dream sequence", which has virtually no continuity at all. At times Forbes crosses that line in my opinion. It's fun. Enjoy the ride.
I rated this book four stars because it is written well. Former solders will struggle comparing their service with behavior in the book. Also, having been in serious running combat with survival in doubt in my very young adult years left me repeatedly saying that this is sci fi, this is sci fi!
Maybe this trend will make the necessary change to save mankind. Now to save woman kind also! Great epics have loss and love, still waiting for the love story. But things are looking up. I'm anxious to read book 3, this is a delicious seris, so glad I bought it!
I cannot believe that the crew of Foresight (and every audiobook listener) doesn't want to run from the room screaming with every "hahahahaha" from that maniac Max. Good grief.
So we've found the source of the transmission and have to go rescue Luke. No idea why but hey, apparently it's part of the problem. No worries. We'll get there.
Why is Luke so important? Only the future will tell, but if he makes it to Pilgrim, that could only mean one thing. In the multiverse anything is possible. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
The central plot is nebulous. Became tired of the philosophical discussion that surrounded porous decisions. I won't proceed with this series for a while. Perhaps later after a change of scenery.
Sheeze! You made me very uncomfortable with the feeling you were painting every character into an inescapable corner…but I couldn’t put the book down…make that books, as this is the 2nd. I’m off to read the next two now. Enjoy!!!
Another awesome entry in the series. I knew Max was going to make an appearance at some point. And he didn't disappoint. He's my second favorite character next to Hayden. Cannot wait to finish book 3
Fair read , people believe able, but writing weak ,Great for a young reader,A great introduction to Sci fi for those who don't know better. Only reason I finished this read and Vol. 1 cause I always hope it will get better
As the Knights come together as a Team, more of the puzzle becomes visible, yet more complicated. A combination of high adventure, space opera and paradox laden sci-fi can’t fail to impress. Now….staring on to book 3!
The second book in the series sees the further adventures of Nicholas and his crew of accidental space and interdimentional travellers. No spoilers so I'll not give details but, I'm about to start the next book so I suppose that forms a recommendation.
Very exciting and addictive. Love the informality of the great characters...That they are not professionals but they are dedicated and determined. I look forward to book 3.
Only mr forbes can write so many different books to intersect with each other. Great stories that are on collision corse to have a epic finish. Full of action, cunning, and acts of heroism. Great work mr forbes as always.
I enjoyed reading the book 😊 it was easy to follow and the characters are believable, well developed. Sometimes the plot gets a little repetitive, but I enjoyed reading it
