Rate this book
What do you do when your ex boyfriend’s werewolf boss wants to feast on the mortal you’ve sworn to protect?

Quinn was unaware of the love potion her meddling cat dumped into her tea, so when Ian Hannigan ends up injured on her property, she thinks she’s dealing with another mortal, not the man who can help mend her heart. Her life becomes a balancing act as she attempts to keep him safe, while hiding secrets better left buried.

In a realm filled with things that go bump in the night, Ian didn’t expect to find security and happiness in the arms of a green skinned witch, yet for the first time since his parents tragic car crash, he’s found some measure of peace. The rumours he hears in Clayridge aren’t pleasant, but Ian knows there’s more to Quinn than what people would have him believe. If he’s placed his trust in the wrong hands he’ll be paying with more than just his heart. He’ll pay with his life.

It has excellent world-building and wonderfully fully developed characters, but it was a lot of information to absorb all in one book.

Quinn is a witch living in a parallel realm of witches, werewolves, vampires, sirens, and a plethora of other-worldly creatures. Humans are in the minority and live in towns that are considered safe places for them. Quinn’s familiar, her talking cat, had stealthily snuck her a love potion, which works just to draw her fated true love to her, it can’t actually make them fall in love. And this is how Ian found himself pulled through the portal on Halloween night, the one day of the year when the portal opens between these two realms. Quinn rescues him from a crazy werewolf and helps him to adjust to his new environment until he can return to the human world in a year’s time.

Like the title, this is quite a complicated and long story. The world-building is truly excellent, I just had to say it twice. A great variety of creatures get introduced, some with intricate back-stories and motivations, and it was easy to keep up with it all. In the end, nothing was as it seemed at the start. I really liked Quinn and Ian, and even Quinn’s smart-alecky cat.

I think this sets up the world and the characters beautifully for further books in this series. And I would love to read the next one. This is quite an interesting and different take on humans interacting with paranormal of fantasy creatures.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fallen in love with these characters!
I can already imagine this being a series of books. There are so many characters I hope will come back with stories!
Witches, werewolves, love spells - familiar fantasy settings written with new tales. I've completely fallen in love with the main character Quinn. She so real and honest and grounded. She's so confident in herself in so many ways but in reality she's over compensating for the one shortcoming that seems so important in her mind - we can all relate to that in some way. Which makes it easy to root for her!
Love how the books are written in parts by season. The author does a great job keeping the mood of the season in with the story which makes it so much more on point. The very first scene sets up how Quinn's life is with her familiar, Lucifer. Oh Lucifer! Think of Salam from Sabrina the Teenage Witch shows and make him better because Cameron Allie did. He's aptly named!
Not only is this book fun with beautifully written characters, it's got the spice! When Quinn and Ian's relationship grows they get some steamy scenes together!
This book gives me callbacks to The Sookie Stackhouse series (True Blood) or Woman of the Otherworld (Bitten). It has the same vibe!
And - AND - we get a snippet into book 2 and Rowan's adventures take it up a notch!
Definitely keeping tabs on this series. I can't wait for book 2. It's going to be fun!

Hang on Quinn, Ian, one of Ontario’s calendar firefighters is on his way to sweep you off your broom. Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets by Cameron Allie is a solid 4 out of 5 for me, Allie does a lovely job with descriptions that make it easy for you to immerse yourself in Quinns world. It’s easy to picture her cozy home with Lucifer inside being a true cat down to his core, with his love and bond with Quinn, to his casualness of being an asshole like a lot of cats ignoring their owners commands.
Sometimes when authors create fantasy worlds, they often over complicate it and you have to refer to a map several times and it’s so coded in language it’s hard to become fully immersed in the world they’ve created. I found it easy to follow the setup of the idea Quinn lives in a alternate realm where magic and various magical creatures exist, it mimics our own in many ways and I loved the idea they only were interested in human world movies to make fun of the inaccuracies of the werewolves or how Sirens really were.
And the marriage between the mortals and the mythicals who live in the main town where the mortal embassy was held. How as readers we get to see our own world reflected back into this, by meeting humans who married vampires and had mixed children with them. It all gave a very vibrant and beautiful way to build the world.
This book also included my absolute favourite trope “one bed” but unfortunately also had my least favourite which is “pregnancy”. That however is not an impact on how I felt about the book and why I rated it the way I did.
The erotica scenes are so well written, the tension, and the give and pull between Ian and Quinn is well done, even though it does dance with the instant love trope which is a hit or miss for some. I personally don’t mind instant attraction or lust, because Allie does a great job with them toeing the line between being insanely attracted to each other and being alone together with no interruptions, and knowing Ian plans to leave at the end of the year.
There is a good build up until the first scene. My complaint about the erotica is that a lot of the scenes are jammed so back to back with little development in between it was hard for me to get back into the action of the book. I find as a reader and thanks in large part to Allie’s writing, I know Ian and Quinn have built a good foundation for their bond and trust, and while there are hints it may not be as true as they both believe thanks to Lucifer introducing a love potion into Quinns tea at the very beginning of the book. It at times felt like an afterthought added to pad the book versus the erotica being a nice break from the drama of the book and characters.
As though the erotica scenes were planned and added to the plot, so sometimes it felt forced and kind of awkward just due to placement for me personally. Knowing now the author plans to expand the universe to focus on characters introduced into the series, makes some of their scenes more palpable like when we meet the Sirens and likely a focus topic for a future expanse and her crush on Stone, one of the hellhounds and guards of the city. At the time, her having these overtly sexual thoughts about him during a more action packed sequence threw me off, and I questioned why is this here?
And there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with women being open with their sexual desires, it just felt kind of like wrong time and place for this, because she is never brought back up in the book and wasn’t introduced before this. I wish maybe there had been another chapter of the night life intown where we see how the Sirens engage with mortals and the like. To give more context and perhaps more interest in these characters, especially given during this time there isn’t a lot of implications there will be more to the series in terms of context. Compared to other characters who are shown repeatedly with their own storylines which I am very excited to see expanded.
Because at 80% left of the books I was curious how Allie could tie up the loose ends. These are really the only issues I had with the books, at 382 pages it only took me 52 pages to feel deeply committed. I ended up staying up all night to read the majority of the book, which is a huge compliment to the author. I am very excited to support her, and continue this series and to see what she brings to the universe.
Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets is a great erotic fantasy read. Great characters like the kind and selfless Ian, spitfire Quinn who is the embodiment of the saying “Do no harm, but take no shit”, Alec a werewolf with a heart of gold who takes a little longer to do the right thing, and Rowan who is a handsome mess of a witch.
With a strong cast of characters, you’ll believe you’re under a love spell as you read this wonderful novel.

Every interruption known to humankind got in the way of me reading this novel. But what surprised me was that, in the past, when I’ve had to go a week between reading sessions, I’ll usually put the book down and just never pick it back up again.

But that wasn’t the case with this one. Ian and Quinn’s story held me captivated enough that I wanted to come back, and that even with no less than 20 interruptions every. Single. Damn. Time. I sat down to read, I still keep jumping right back in. I’d send the interruption away, grunt out my disdain, and slide my eyes back to the kindle screen, surprised, as I’d dive back in, that I even WAS diving back in. All the while just thinking, “Wow, these guys have really got me wanting to know what happens!”

Now, I don’t like to go into detail about the plot in a review, enough reviews do that. I prefer to give you what I think you’re looking for when you read a review.

* This book has some steam. It’s not highly detailed but it’s enough, and it’s not characters avoiding sex just to serve some hidden plot agenda.
* There’s snark.
* Easy, light read.
* Other realms.
* Magic.
* Varying species of creature.
* No love triangles, although a character does have past loves that give us a little outside conflict, but if you don’t enjoy triangles you will still like this.
* Love that isn’t repeatedly ripped away to keep you reading. The author lets the characters get where they need to go, and that was appreciated.

I like the fact that the love is quite mature, as are those involved. There’s not all the petty crap that usually gets in the way of love, which, again, was relieving and appreciated. This story doesn’t exhaust you, so to speak.

I am hoping we get to see more of Alec, and there was a character that’s brushed over real quick in a seedy bar that I would love to see more of as well.

All in all, I will be picking up more Cameron Allie books in the future.

What a brilliant way to start a new series. I fell in love with Quinn and Lucifer immediately, and really enjoyed reading their story. I love the idea of a parallel-ish realm, where magical creatures reside, while still having access to the human world. As for Ian, he's absolutely perfect for Quinn, and I'm surprised the sparks flying between them didn't set my kindle on fire. Paranormal romance lovers, you don't want to miss this sizzling opening to a promising new series.

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Cameron Allie!

Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets is the first book in the Clayridge Chronicles and tells the story of Quinn and Ian.

Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets is the first book I’ve read by Cameron Allie, and I really enjoyed it! When I read the synopsis of this book, I was really interested in Quinn’s story and I’m happy that I picked up this book! This story is filled with interesting characters, different beings such as witches, vampires, hellhounds, … and, of course, love! Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets is a great first book in a series, and I’m looking forward to reading the other books in the Clayride Chronicles.

Quinn and Ian are both fun and interesting characters, and I liked getting to know them. Quinn is a green witch with earth and healing magic, and Ian is a human firefighter from a different world. I liked seeing Quinn and Ian grow towards each other, and fall for each other. I also liked the side characters such as Lucifer, Rowan and Alec. I’m interested in Rowan and Alec’s story!

Although I really enjoyed reading Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets, I think that it was a bit too long. Some stuff wasn’t that important or there was just a bit too much information. But besides that, I really liked reading this book and I think that Cameron Allie created an interesting world with likeable characters. I hope that Blood Lust and Black Magic, the second book in the series, comes out soon!

OMG this book dragged on and on. The story was good and the characters were also, but the plot/romance moved at a snail pace.

What a great story!!! Ian falls thru a portal and ends up in a magical land being cared for by Quinn. He has a year before the portal will open again and his life will never be the the same again. Magic is real, Quinn is a witch, a werewolf wants him dead, and love is in the air! Cameron Allie has woven a wonderful story and I look forward to more in this series by her.

I think one of the hardest things to quantify when reviewing a book is when there is just too much of it. Even if you like the characters, think the plot is interesting, and the writing is good, there sometimes comes a point when you have to admit that there is just too much of it. And that's the case here, with Love Spells, Full Moons, and Silver Bullets, in my opinion. The book is 462 pages long and feels like it should have been, at most, 300.

Over half the book is just slice-of-life kind of stuff that really drags the plot down. It's sweet sure, but it's slow and, as a result, by the time the action finally happens in the last 15-20% of the book the reader (or this reader, at least) is ready to just be finished with it all. Plus, it creates a real sense of slow, slow, slow, rush, rush rush that is a pacing nightmare.

But the story is sweet, the characters likeable, and the writing/editing is quite readable. There are some show vs tell sort of issues, but it's not unovercomeable. The story just drags on longer than it should and the pacing is off. None of it is enough to wholly ruin the story though.

I hated this book, it's not for me

Not rating as is the first book I read of this author.

There were some interesting parts at the beginning, the portal night, the magical realm, the town protected by hellhounds and the powerful witch living in the woods... But that was it, it was pretty boring I don't know how the author managed to tell more than show things in such a long book..

The development of the relationship was awful to me, every step they took forward was based on a ridiculous reason and of course that didn't go well, and don't get me started on the needless angst, my goodness I wanted to shake some sense into them...

The only interesting character was the FMC's familiar.

The story about the ex was annoying and I couldn't care less about what happened to them... And that ending? Not to my liking at all...

This author is not for me.

POV: multiple
Tropes:angst, other realm, she's magical/ he's human, meddling familiar.
Spice: medium (detailed scenes)
CW: grieving, violence, blood, death.

For those of you that are looking for a witchy read for the Halloween season, this is for you. There is a corn maze with a portal, a talking cat, vengeful werewolves and bratty vampires. When Ian stumbled through the portal on Halloween night his life changed forever, with a vampire seductress and werewolves after him he almost lost. Quinn's past has come back to bite her in the @r$e on top of that her familiar dru&&ed her with a love potion the night before portal night. Lucifer's plan was for Alec her ex to come back into her life, but Alec's alpha has a few things to say about that.
This is my first Cameron Allie book and I loved it, can't wait for book 2. This book ended on a HEA, my understanding is book 2 is same characters/world but different FMC and MMC.

The premise is great and seeing the mortal Ian adjust to life in a new world allows him to finally shine and be seen by the residents for the good person that those back home didn't appreciate. How his life entangling with the witch Quinn helps her life but also puts them both at risk is well told and although there are several sex scenes, it's only really fully written out in detail once.

The supporting cast all feel like they could be stars of their own books which allows for groundwork to be laid for the rest of the series while richly adding to the world-building here and making everything feel interconnected. The final battle has a few great surprises and adds even more depth to some of the cast.

Overall it's a really enjoyable read in this genre.

Once again the writing in the book was top notch. The story flows so well. Each character matched the other characters energies. I loved the absolute diversity in paranormal creatures it includes. You will see vampires, witches & werewolves. The obvious. But it also includes a diverse race in the witch community. As well as dwarfs, elves, mixed mortals, leprechauns, etc. Each villain played the perfect villainous role. I was happy with the ending. I loved each character even if they didn’t have the greatest personality. They were written so well it felt as if they were real. This is a world got lost in & would love to live in forever.

I bought this book because it has a pretty cover. It did also sound like a good storyline.
I found it slow and longer than it needed to be. There was too much fluff, day to day dribble that dragged on and I was bored.
I got half way (beginning of Summer section) and decided to just skim the remainder of the book to find out how it plays out.

Ian’s grief for his parents felt over the top. Do people actually grieve their parents that deeply? I got sick of hearing about it.

All the characters were so wholesome. Maybe I’m use to reading characters with flaws so these were on the boring side.

Lucifer the talking cat was my favourite.

Oh my goodness I want to be Quinn!! I want the cabin, the protected property full of fruits, veggies, & herbs, the potion making & healing abilities, the broom to fly (🤣), and of course the green skin!! (It is my favorite color after all) I love Quinn's personality & character & fierce need to protect those she loves. I am so glad that what should have been a short story for an anthology book, was too big to be contained and became this amazing world with multiple realms, diverse species, and so many opportunities for more character stories!!! I'm obsessed and cannot wait for the next Clayridge Chronicles book!!!

Best new Author I have found in a long time!

Love, Love, Love this book! The plot is fast paced and the action is fun. The story is unique and different than most. I loved the uniqueness! The love story is a bit of a slow burn but the spice is on point when you get that far. The cat is great comic relief! I love books with paranormal communities where you get different characters of a lot of different races and this one is so well done!

I adored the world building in this book and can’t wait to read more novels set in this world. The entire premise is clever! The characters are witty and relatable. The spice level is soooo perfect. A lot of fantasy books with a variety of creatures end up being cheesy or too far fetched but this book manages to blend the real world with the fantasy world is a way that is so seamless. The reader is quickly drawn into the world that is full of passion, humor, mystery, and so much banter.

A very interesting story.

I liked the way several characters had a pov. Ultimately this is a love story but with many obstacles that the characters must face and overcome. The only negative is that there are a few loose ends that were not fully addressed. That left me wanting more pages. Besides that I did really enjoy it. I'm now looking forward
To reading the next books in this world where mortals and creatures live together in their special town.

Really enjoyed this book. The descriptions were spot on, felt like I was really living in this world. Cannot wait to read more about the characters of this story. A slow burn build up of romance was really great. So many questions about all of the other characters. Left me waiting for the next book!

This book is so cute!!! Does have spice later on, which doesn't bother me at all! Not so fast paced it does have some everyday stuff in there but the action is wonderful and semi gory even haha I really enjoyed this one and I like how long it is too!! I got pretty invested in all the characters and now I want HEA stories for them all!! But I love how this one ended too!!

This was a fun read. It was a lot longer than anticipated. The storyline bounced between action and slice of life quite a bit. It wasn’t just one or the other. The ending felt a bit rushed but the bonus scene after the epilogue that showed you more of Rowan’s predicament really brought more intrigue to the storyline.

Witches

Ian fell through a portal met a Vampire, werewolves, and a witch. Sounds like a bar joke. The vampire tried a must spell on him the were wolves attacked him. Ian fell into the witches yard an was safe. Now the twists and humor begins. Loved the book.
