Jayne Erixour believes she knows everything about the universe. As a bounty hunter and assassin, she's seen the worst dregs of humanity and every sentient species ever spat out of a hell realm. To her, there is no truth outside of her blaster’s recoil and her resolve to let no one get too close.

Hadrian Scalera is on the run from the same brutal assassins who slaughtered every member of his family, both birth and foster. He has no refuge and no one he dares to call friend, as it will mean the end of them. He expects no mercy from anyone, until the day one assassin hesitates to pull the trigger.

An assassin’s code is simple: Kill or be killed. No prey, no pay. Every life has a price.

If Jayne doesn’t fulfill her contract and kill Hadrian, she’ll be the next target on the League’s menu. But as old enemies return to hunt them both, they quickly learn that neither will survive unless they can learn to trust each other. Yet things are never so simple and survival means only one of them can be left standing . . .

Really just tired of all these stories about the past... and the reread of the same event over and over. It’s like the author is milking it at this point. Can we please get the story of the kids already all these other stories could have been in an anthology.

Kindle version ... 137 actual pages of story. Finished in under 2hrs.

Let me say up front. I love The League. It's one of my very favorite series, and have re-read all the books several times over. Like everyone one else who's a fan, we've been oh-so patient waiting for Jayne's book to finally release.

While I loved the story of how Jayne & Hadrian meet (which is what pushed it to 3 stars). I am absolutely devastated that this is all she rated story-wise.

She's a freaking FOUNDING member of the Sentella ... THE ONLY FEMALE ... and she gets a backstory Novella for her book.

I'm seriously gut-punched that after all the wait for Jayne's book to finally get here ... there's actually very little substance to the book. Zero momentum on the overall story line.

Kindle version page counts:
Born of Night : 562
Born of Fire : 562
Born of Ice : 361
Born of Shadows : 444
Born of Silence : 699
Cloak & Silence : 205
Born of Fury : 687
Born of Defiance : 519
Born of Betrayal : 510
Born of Legend : 737
Born of Vengeance : 417

Eve of Destruction : 90 + Born of Rage : 44 + Born of Blood : 142 (actual count with book list & author page) = 276 pages ... All three books combined doesn't even come close to the other Sentella Members.

Yeah, I'm not really surprised by the new release date at this time. Especially, as it becomes harder with each new announcement to know which is the next book in the series (League) I loved so much.
Now Born of Blood is part of a sub-series, that it seems, is called Eve of Destruction.

The new expected publication date is...August 23, 2022

October 2021
Hm....another "new" publication date...
Original Publication Date: December 31, 2024
My Sherrilyn - Born of Blood book page
Plus a new cover...

And now it gets curious...and noteworthy...over at Amazon...Born of Rage is listed as Book 1 and Born of Blood is listed as Book 2 in the The League: Eve of Destruction series....hm....

AND Born of Blood has a completely different expected publication date... July 26th 2022!!!

May 2020
New expected publication date: 31 October 2022
We'll see...I'm not sure...I hope so, but I wouldn't be surprised, if the date was changed again (probably several times) until then.

For more check My Sherrilyn - Born of Blood book page

Found September 2018 at https://www.sherrilynkenyon.com/book/...
**Please note that Born of Blood is NOT out of print or OUT OF STOCK. It is still in production and has yet to come out. Due to health and personal issues, the book is unfortunately delayed. We will keep you posted on the new date just as soon as we can. Thanks so much for understanding.

Like I said before...I'm not counting on an October 2018 release...and this confirms it. Esp. the: It is still in production part...

August 2018

Publication is postponed...again.
(LOL, what's new in that regard...the way the publication goes, I'll be a retiree before the series is completed. At least, I hope it will be completed by then...)

First publication date: forgot to log the date...but years from now (she changed the publication order, also nothing new)
Second publication date: July 24th 2018
Next date: September 24th 2018
Publication date thereafter: October 31st 2018 (I'm not counting on it...)

Right or wrong, she wasn't going to be what life kept trying to make her.
Heartless. Bitter. Vindictive.
You won't take my soul. I won't let you..
It was the only thing she had left. They'd stolen everything else from her long ago. Her childhood. Her innocence.
Her sense of fair play.
Her family.
What was left?
— Jayne Erixour (p.41)

Warnings: None of note

I'm going to be honest I'm a bit torn on this one. 🤨 I'm giving it 4 because I believe Jayne Erixour and Alexos Hadrian Vicarius Scalera deserved their own full length book. Through Jayne we could have got more detail on the founding of the Sentella, the seedlings of it are here and seen an entirely different race, Hyshian, that makes Desideria's Qillaq look almost egalitarian. In addition, I'm wondering if this is different from the history we've been told about them before. Don't get me wrong this is still a great book, it's Sherri and we finally got a story for Jayne but I was kinda hoping for more when we did get her story. Is that so wrong? 🤔 Especially when you look at what we got for Fain (Born of Betrayal) and Julian/Dagger (Born of Legend) and in the Hunterverse Maxis (Dragonbane) and upcoming Jaden (Shadows Within *epic grabby hands* for that one in particular, 🤩 look I know some of Jaden's story and I need more).

I like Jayne and Hadrian's story. We get to learn Jayne's background, what she wanted to be before she was forced into her life, her life secret (she's a Winged Batur 😲) and what makes her tick. Hadrian is so different to Nero, he feels more like Mari than Nero (not certain where that came from). Hadrian has an entirely different set of strengths than his older brother, his are passive and more defensive. This is the first time we've spent any real time with a Trisani unfortunately there is no real lore introduced, we did, however, get introduced to the Clusas a group of Trisani immune to the mindreading abilities and the concept varying levels of power. We are shown Gauduley "the Trisani term for when one was so attracted to another that they lost control of their power." (p.111). I want to see that played out in all its glory, especially given we know Nero is so powerful.

Through Nero, Hadrian is almost disturbingly well connected. Interestingly Nyk is connected to them both . The plot is not dissimilar to many of the others, there is no damsel in distress but Jayne is not what you expect. The twist she faces is she signed a warrant for a simple retrieval that gets turned into a spill-kill. It was actually quite nice to see the old language back it's been a while since we were using assassin speak, a spill-kill is a kill with torture first. A rarity that Jinx calls out.

Let me add some random quotes and comments.
• Important to the story in a way is Eve of Destruction is Jayne's older sister, older by 7 years. She is already in command of a unit at 21 in the prologue.
• Hadrian's endearment from Jayne is Suāva Trisani for sweetie. I always like knowing what they are, some of them have been fantastic. No one has yet beaten Hauk's for Sumi.
"Nero know?"
"Above his paygrade."
Syn snorted. "Nothing is above his paygrade where you're concerned. You trying to get us killed?"
"I'm trusting you on this."
That garnered a full laugh. "I don't keep secrets from your brother. I can't."
"Yeah... he's a massive pain in the ass that way. Can you at least avoid him for a bit?"
Syn Scratched at his check. "Can try. But like you, he has a nasty way of tracking me down."
— Syn legit can't keep secrets from Nero, it's the telepathy thing. Even if Syn's mind is a lot scrambled when he's sober. This whole book is essentially Hadrian finally proving to Nero that he isn't that toddler Nero saved anymore, he can hold his own. (C.S. Syn and Hadrian, p.53)
• We get to meet another Schvardan (the land-based Phrixians), like Morra from Born of Legend. It was nice to meet Moradcity.
"No. No! Bad idea. Why would you leave good alcohol to go chasing down someone your brother will find first?"
"Personal satisfaction."
Syn scoffed. "Overrated,"
"The curiosity,"
"Stupid reason." Syn rolled his eyes. "Besides you know what they say."
"Curiosity is the foundation of science?"
Syn let out a pain-filled noise. "Damn you Tris origins. Y'all take the fun out of everything."
— Syn and Hadrian are great. This is Syn in his functioning alcoholic stage. The good alcohol is a bottle of Tondarian Fire because only the top shelf when you are this screwed. But one thing that comes out in this is part of the reason for the Trisani holocaust, the others around them wanted to claim their technological advancements. And they are to thank for so many. (C.S. Syn and Hadrian, p.75)
• This has one of the better and simplest explanations of the Tavali I've read. I never knew their origins. But I'm guessing more of that will come out in Born of Trouble, Ryn and Mack's story.

• We've actually met Jayne's son as an adult which I had no idea of. Sway runs as C.I. Syn and Shahara Dagan's son, Devyn Kell's second in command in Born of Ice. Go look up Claire she is a total badass and I remember her.

"Who taught you to drive"
"No one." She shot out the window.
"Are you licensed?"
"Not on this planet."
Awesome.
— Hadrian Scalera and Jayne Erixour (p.20)

Read for QBD Reading Challenge 2022. Filling the prompt: "A Book Story You've Always Wanted to Read"
This is cheating a bit given Born of Blood was only published in 2022. Still, part of the advertising for this book was "The story Paladins have been begging for . . .". Paladins are Sherrilyn McQueen's fandom. They have been begging, pleading for Sherri to give us Jayne and Hadrian's story for probably a decade. Jayne is The League fandom's fave badass woman, the original and from a feministic, matriarchal society to book. I am one of those Paladins.

A representative gif:
description description

These are in reference to two queens. Sherri who finally gave us Jayne and Hadrian's story and Jayne herself. The biggest badass in the Sentella, which is saying something given the assassins she runs with.

This one quickly spun out of control for Jayne when her simple find and bring back assignment went to kill and in a very messy way. Wasn't much better for Hadrian as he was the person she was after. It was fun to see them being forced to work together when things went to hell in a handbasket fast for them. It also helped that when they needed help they both knew the same people and they could vouch for the other.

I liked that they were able to discover the plot going on and do their part to see it stopped. The best was the ending, nice to see that they could live happy and do what they always yearned for.

Jayne Erixour is a mixed-breed bounty hunter and assassin. She accepts what she believes is an easy retrieval assignment, only to have the contract changed to an execution one. Jayne must bring in her mark or else become the League’s next target. Instead, she finds herself helping Hadrian elude the many assassins out for their blood. Can Jayne manage to keep Hadrian safe? Will they eventually find out the truth behind the contract?
Hadrian Scalera is a man living in hiding. He must keep a low profile or risk discovery by those intent on eradicating his race. Hadrian does not trust anyone except for his older brother. He suspects Jayne is trouble from the moment she walked through his door. However, Hadrian never expected the woman to save him from the assassins gunning for him. Can Hadrian trust Jayne? Will they learn who truly put out a hit on Hadrian?
Hadrian and Jayne have a lot in common. I like how both discovered that they are similar in a lot of ways. They both have overprotective, and totally scary, older siblings. The two are used to living beneath their siblings’ shadows, which define how they live. Hadrian and Jayne both feel so stifled in their current life. They both yearn for a different life than the one they currently live.
BORN OF BLOOD is book fourteen in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s popular sci-fi series, THE LEAGUE: NEMESIS RISING. I have not real all the books in this series, just a handful here or there. Generally, I stay away from this genre (not a sci-fi fan), but I adore Sherrilyn Kenyon. This book does NOT lack from the author’s trademark humor. I found myself laughing from the witty banter between the characters.

92 pages of how Jayne and Hadrian met and tried to figure out who signed the kill order against them as well as numerous other characters. There's also Nero, Syn, Hauk, Jinx, Eve, Galene and references to a cast of characters that fill the number of pages in this novella. There are Trisani, Panteras, Andorions, Hyshians, Winged Batur, Tavali, and more.

I first started reading the books in the League series in 2011 and read about a book a year from then through 2017. Between 2017 and 2022, I've pretty much forgotten the names and affiliations of most of the main players. So this novella had too little plot and too many characters. It would have helped to have been able to read an introductory chapter that summarized what happened leading up to this novel. Looking at character listings on Kenyon's website was not sufficient.

I was expecting so much more; I found this novella to be disappointing.

This book had me on the edge throughout most of the book. That's one of the many reasons I enjoy a Kenyon novel. This book delivers everything! I can't recommend this series enough. Though to be honest I would start at the beginning of the entire The League series to help a new reader understand everything and where all the characters interrelate and interconnect. Just read this book.

Worth the wait! Though it is a very short novel we finally got to learn how Jayne and Hadrian met and why Hadrian prefers to be the stay-at-home dad. The drama in this book really preps the reader for Nero's book next while making them want to continue with the League series. I really liked getting to see the interconnectedness of the characters and seeing them before they got their happily ever afters. I cannot wait for more!

After such a long wait this short entry in the legue series was a major diaappointment. There is no background on the main characters simply endless dialogue of how badly they were betrayed . The plot is weak with a contrived ending . The cameo appearance of a few of the superstars of the leagues previous books not only does not save this dreary novella it glaringly shows how far this series has fallen.

My 1 complaint about This is I wish it was longer. I’ve been waiting for years for Jayne’s origin story.

My attachment to the League series is the only reason why I’m putting this at 3 stars. I love the league world and every character ever created. But the storytelling in this is not it. For one, the characters introduced lacked dimension, or it was a poor attempt at clashing characters from the Eve of Destruction series with the League Series. For one, Syn here seems to know Jinx and Eve and the rest of the crew enough to fear her (which btw is already an ooc for me since the Syn I know would never admit to be in fear of anything) but in the past 11 books their names were never mentioned. Hauk was also pulled into this, and honestly, it hurt how 2d his character is especially since we know he’s a surly dude in his own right, and here he just seemed to be a moving guard that was named Hauk. He also knew Galene here enough that he knew she was a winged Batur, which doesn’t make sense because he barely knew she was the fiancé of Fain.

I also didn’t feel the spark between Jayne and Hadrian here like the rest of the hero’s and heroines. I think the whole plot was that they were both about to be killed and both have overprotective siblings and both wanted a life of their own. Basically many similarities. Also apparently everyone was Trisani or part Trisani, which is ridiculous and too coincidental that at this point I’m thinking that that Kenyon just used it so that people would be able to put up with the Trisani in a fight and highlight Jinx’s badassary. My heart was just not in it, which never happens for league novels and I’m extremely sad that Jaynes story wasn’t told properly.

I can almost swear that her sisters name came up in this story even more that she does, which is ridiculous because many other hero’s/heroines in the previous books had siblings too, and they didn’t interfere with the main storyline that much, for example Caillen, and you know that Shahara would die for him just as much as Eve would Jayne. There was a lack of development of character for both Hadrian and Jayne and there wasn’t the sense that their love made each other complete.

Before I start, the required disclosure: I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review (I love when I get to read my favorite author's books early:-)).

Born of Blood is book 14 in Sherrilyn Kenyon/McQueen's League Series. If you love hot "romance" amongst born enemies, often on the run from an even bigger enemy, then I highly recommend you start with book 1. While each book can be read on its own, they do tie together and, anyway, why would you want to miss something so amazing? This will help get you started: https://www.sherrilynkenyon.com/book-...

This book...what can I say other than WOW! Jayne takes on yet another bounty, only for things to go terribly off course. Hadrian couldn't be happier to help her resolve the issues, which proves harder than they imagined. With several key League characters involved in solving the mystery and ensuring their safety, if you know the series you can imagine the hijinks that ensues.

With superb sarcastic humor and an endless supply of violence, Born of Blood is a can't miss for all League lovers, and a reason for others to join the bandwagon! Come on, people, if you read this far, read all the books! You won't be disappointed, except as you, like me, wait for the next great book by Ms. Sherrilyn!

This is Jayne and Hadrian's beginnings

Jayne just wanted a normal life, a chance to teach, to have a family -
to get away from the death and destruction that has always been her life
One more rejection letter later and it seemed it just wasn't in the cards for her
Eve said this would be an easy job
Recovery of an aristo - and the pay was phenomenal
Why not? Wasn't like she had anything to lose...
Famous last thoughts

Hadrian was living the life - not! He was so tired of hiding, of being weary of everyone who crossed his path.
He was close to his breaking point until a little spitfire of a woman sparked his fire
Now if they can just stay alive long enough

I have always loved the way the different League's stories interconnect so that we still get to spend time with all of our favorites while also meeting some new folk.
Each book highlights a new couple. Some answer questions, others provide new ones that eventually we will get the answers to.
The Eve of Destruction collection is a bit more focused on the past - getting to know the cast on a more personal level, where they came from, what they have survived and how their lineages connect

The sense of family by choice is strong - something that I highly enjoy about this series
The humor is dry and occasionally quite morbid - my kind of friends
And the action is plentiful

Jayne and Hadrian

Two outcasts who are perfect for each other. Novella length and a fast read without any missing pieces. Jayne is tired. She's an assassin and there are no good guys. But she wants another life. She's out of options though so she takes an "easy" job. She has to pick up and return some royal guy to his family. But soon after taking the assignment, the job changes to a kill order.

Hadrian has been in hiding all his life but now someone has discovered he survived the slaughter of his family. When the assassins show up he's ready to run again. But she doesn't shoot and she takes out other hunters that are after him.

There's only one way to do what Jayne does. Take the assignment. Complete the assignment. If you don't, you become the next assignment. Now the two of them are on the run. Family secrets are uncovered, danger stalks them and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

Easy, enjoyable read with likable characters that have both been dealt a lousy hand. As they fight to survive, we meet the others in their families who come to their aid. Great read.

I always look forward to Sherrilyn Kenyon books and especially her League Series. She did not disappoint me! The book has wonderful characters, it's entertaining, witty, has twists and turns, kepts yours interest from beginning to end, full of action and there is romance thrown in with even a happy ever after. What more could you ask for? Just buy it! You will be glad you did.

This book is part of the League series but also part of the Eve of Destruction series. It helps if you have read the League Series from the beginning so you will know all of the parties and where they fit. However, you can start with Eve of Destruction series or just read the book as a stand-alone and you'll be entertained and still be able to enjoy it.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. You find The League Series under Science Fiction Romance, Science Fiction Fantasy or Fantasy. It all depends on how you view the contents of the book. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys Science Fiction Romance, Science Fiction Fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal Romance books.

Short and to the point, thankfully she didn't feel the need to rehash past books.

Jayne takes a contract to bring Hadrian in but after she signs it, the contract is changed to a kill and other assains also arrive to kill him. Jayne and Hadrian flee for their lives and with the help of their families manage to survive. Jinx manages to make it look like Hadrian is dead so that he and Jayne can eventually marry and have a life together.

In previous books, we learn that Nero and Hadrian's brother Trajen is alive. Born of Legend and Born of Betrayal

I *so* wanted to give this more stars, but I just can't. Like the previous two books, this is short, although it's the longest of the three (Eve of Destruction, Born of Rage, Born of Blood), it still suffers from the lack of length to develop both characters and story. It also needs an editor as I found a major story line? arc? Whatever you call it, it's a big flaw. In Chapter Seven, it's said that Jinx's parents were murdered by his uncle, yet in both previous books (Eve of Destruction and Born of Rage), it's said that Jinx's parents were murdered by his half brother, Tobin. So which is it? Uncle or half brother? I also came across this bit in Chapter Five:
"Jayne was baffled. "Then why would you did you leave the military?"
Uhm... what?
Yeah, editor needed.
I enjoyed the story and the characters, but am disappointed that it isn't up to the standards I expect from this (favorite) author.

Been waiting a long time to get the origin story of Jayne and Hadrian and it is finally here! This story takes us way back to the early days of so many characters we know and love. Before they were even close to being the people we know them as. Jayne and Hadrian are so young here. And their sweet short story is very typical of all involved. Jayne and Hadrian meet when she is sent out to bring him in. However, nothing quite adds up. The family claiming to want Hadrian are all dead except for Nero after their family and empire were wiped out. So who exactly is after Hadrian? And how does everything connect? Because we learn about a lot of family ties in this one along with how certain people know others and how their group in the future ties together. A lot starts here and I love it. Loved seeing familiar faces and we got some new ones who I am super curious about. I'm also curious to see if we get more of Jayne's family in the future books yet to come. They are pretty quiet in the series but not so much here. Would love to get everyone together. Jayne is always hysterical and bad ass. It's nice to see other sides of her and how she ended up with Hadrian. Hadrian has always been quiet in the series but getting his point of view and seeing how he got together with Jayne. Things make a lot more sense now. Loved those two characters and love this world. Can't wait until we get more!

After reading all of the books in The League series, this one was like a farewell for me.

Jeyne & Hadrian are prominent characters since the beginning, and finally we get to see how they met and how all characters are intertwined. This book gave a few slices of insight into the Trisani history and Nero.

This series is an absolute hit, with vivid characters and complex storylines. Ichidian Universe has it all - as I have said in one of my reviews, it is science-fiction meets Game of Thrones, and this still stands. I am really sorry that Sherrilyn didn't manage to publish next planned books featuring Ryn & Nero, but I hope that she will do it in the future.

Dear Miss McQueen I have found your league series from born of night all the way to Eva destruction extremely well written, but born of blood was not what I expected. I understand that you've been going for the ringer but Jayne and Hadrian deserved a little more maybe a tad more backstory Jane is an intrical part of all the books from the nyk all the way to bastion's book. I hope as things settle down and your body and mind heals that you're able to give more attention to your writing as I said I do understand that you have gone through hell and back put Jane really did deserve a little bit more have a great day.

Well that was underwhelming. I enjoyed most of this series when I first read it but these books are getting too formulaic. And this one was so disappointingly short. Here's the formula:

Guy meets girl, one of which is running from the law and/or trying not to be killed and/or everyone hates them and has made their life hell.
They're attracted to each other and instantly hit it off. In fact, the guy is always "instantly hard" at something she does.
They get it on, and they're floored that someone is finally nice to them.
They fall in love and have a billion babies.

That's it folks! Every League book by Sherrilyn.

After such a long wait I was a bit surprised it was novella length rather than a full book. I've been excited for more League for a long time. Overall the multiple years of hype and a backstory that didn't add a lot in terms of story progression hurt my enjoyment. However, I do think this story (Jane/Hadrian backstory) needed to be told before Nero and Trajen's stories. And all since Nero's is currently slated to be up next and I cant imagine Trajen being to far out in the lineup I'm glad we got a look into these characters even if I wish the plot had more substance to the world.

This short book presents the reader and the characters with a nearly impossible dilemna: kill and fulfill an assassin's contract, or don't kill, and be the target of said contract.

Jayne has her reasons for being an assassin, and for taking an easy retrieve contract, but it turns swiftly into something else, and research into the 'why' only leads to more questions without answers.

Unfortunately, the answers really weren't forthcoming, so I downgraded the novella, but it is still a strong 3.5 / 4 star, and worth reading.

The queen has done it again!!! I just got done listening to Born of Blood by @mysherrilyn . I have never been disappointed by any of her books and she continues to surprise me every time! I have been waiting for a book about this couple since I started the League series and while I wasn't disappointed, I do wish it was longer. The way Kenyon builds her world is amazing and magical. She will continue to be the author that I recommend when people ask what author they should read next.

There was a lot of stuff missing and all kinds of inconsistencies. In Eve of destruction Jinx was betrayed by his half brother but in this one he’s betrayed by his uncle. How did Jane become a teacher if everyone kept rejecting her? Is she half hisian in or did they just pick that Culture because they were nicer to mixed races? It didn’t really go into any detail about how she ended up in prison. Overall, pretty disappointing.

Jayne and Hadrian

As usual, Sherrylins' world building and storytelling abilities absolutely amazed me. Definitely another fabulous installment in The League series. Can't wait for the next one. Holing my breath for Trajens book
