An easy, fun read. Lots of nuggets of wisdom, and some laughs too. And a transcript of the council
proceedings that led to her 15 minutes of lockdown fame “Jackie Weaver, you have no authority here”. But also, for me, a few “so what, why do I care about that?” moments, hence the four star rating.
But Jackie is a brave lady to dare to bare her soul to the degree she does in this book. In places, she comes over to me as slightly cocky, but I can’t help liking her. I think she’d be a fun dinner party guest. Except, since Covid, I really can’t be bothered to entertain properly. But she’s welcome to pop round, and join us at the kitchen table for a good wholesome meal of whatever we are having, served with love and chaos, and perhaps a few dog hairs! I’m sure we’d have a great time.
I wholeheartedly agree with her that there are some things that life is too short to do. But I disagree about some of the things. Why would anyone want to dust skirting boards, she asks? Well, Jackie, because I hate seeing my nice white skirting boards covered with a thick layer of dust. Even my poor husband, whose approach to housework is cursory in some ways, to put it kindly, knows that he should dust the skirting boards because it pleases me. But, seriously, Jackie, ironing towels and tea towels? Surely life really is too short for that?
I guess it takes all sorts, which is just as well.
