When Alpha Sawyer Locke crosses into another pack’s territory to solve a rogue wolf problem, he is elated to finally meet his fated mate. Grace is unlike any wolf he has ever met, and their attraction is instant. But unbeknown to him, she has been denying their mate bond for years and before long makes it clear that she has no intention of acting on it. Can he fight through her resistance to convince her that he can be the mate she needs, or are they doomed from the start?
When her mate appears and makes his intentions known, Grace struggles to cope. The feelings she has worked hard to suppress are now bubbling to the surface and threatening to bring chaos to the world she has worked so hard to build. Can she continue to resist her mate? Or will she finally give in to the desire that has haunted her, even if it costs her everything?
With her world threatened, danger lurking and hidden enemies about to be exposed, Grace may not live to decide.
What a wonderful surprise! This book was recommended to me on Facebook; when I read the blurb, I was intrigued, and when I saw that it was free on KU, I was sold!
The story is about Sawyer and Grace, who are wolf shifters in neighbouring territories. Sawyer has been looking forward to finding his mate his whole life, but when he visits Grace’s territory, sees her, and recognizes her as his fated mate, he is shocked to realize that she doesn’t want a mate. There are some surprises along the way as Sawyer and Grace navigate their relationship, but, of course Sawyer manages to break down her walls, overcome their obstacles, and they live HEA — cheesy, but satisfying and entertaining!
I’m a sucker for a good shifter/fated mate romance, and this book ticked all of my boxes:
✅ strong, j/p, but caring and sweet alpha ✅ kick@ss heroine ✅ great plots with a couple of twists I didn’t see coming ✅ great chemistry btw H and h ✅ smutty sexy times
I also really LOVED the ending! If you’re in the mood for a shifter romance, I highly recommend this.
4.5 stars from me! If you're a fan of sexy shifters, sizzling scenes, strong female leads, and plot twists and turns, give this one a try! Ms. Monroe has a new fan here! 👏👏👏
Alpha by Cordelia Monroe is book one in the Reluctant Mates series and Monroe’s debut novel. This was an amazing debut I absolutely loved. Alpha is a paranormal shifter romance written from the third perspective.
Alpha follows Sawyer, alpha of the Lupus Fortissimum pack, as he tries to ally with surrounding packs to combat the increasing attacks from rogue werewolves. What he doesn’t expect is Grace, alpha to the Lupus Regna Mare pack, who just so happens to be his mate. Their story isn’t straightforward, but one of the complications, twists, and turns.
The story was so interesting. I devoured it in one sitting. I could not get enough of Sawyer and Grace. I loved the two of them so much. Sawyer was the playboy who wasn’t feeling fulfilled with meaningless encounters. Sawyer wants to find his fated mate. He longs for that feeling of home. Grace is strong, feisty, resilient, and does not need a man to protect her. Grace was honestly my favorite character and that's very hard to decide because all these characters are amazing!
I loved all the twists and turns in this book and I can’t wait to see what Monroe writes next!
Sawyer Locke is the alpha of his pack. When his pack is threatened by rogues, he travels to the bordering pack hoping to join forces to defend their borders. He finds Grace, a female alpha, and his mate. Grace has been fighting the pull to her mate for years and doesn't want to give up her position of leadership in her own pack. The chemistry between these two characters is smoldering. I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but other creatures find their way into this story and Grace has to fight hard to stay with her pack. Sawyer and Grace are finally able to reconcile, joining their packs and fighting for the position of alpha. But I won't tell you who won. :) Steamy. Fun. Adventurous. Recommended.
It's very easy to give a review for this book because I loved it. Anyone who reads paranormal romance knows roughly what to expect with the content but incase you are new to the genre this novel does contain swearing and sexual content.
The story follows Sawyer, the alpha of his wolf pack who is trying to ally with nearby packs to fight against the increasing amounts of rogue attacks that have been growing closer. The second main character is Grace, who is with a nearby pack, one that does not want an allegiance with Sawyer.
Not only did I really enjoy the story I also really loved the characters. Sawyer is hot, and everything I like in my book men. I also enjoyed his inner struggle to find his fated mate. He watches his fellow pack members mate and all he wants to do is find his own. Grace, is probably my favourite. She is tough, feisty and certainly does not need to be saved by a man. She can definitely hold her own, and will not bow down to any male wolf who comes her way, not even one as tempting as Sawyer.
As this is a spoiler free review I won't say too much about the plot itself. You will have to purchase a copy yourselves to find out what happens 🙂
The story took a turn towards the end that I wasn't expecting but I was so excited to see how that then played out into the ending.
Very happy with this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. You won't be disappointed.
Several years ago, I read a book featuring immortal wolves from neighbouring packs. I want to say that the story took place in remote Oregon. Much like this book, Grace knew Sawyer was her mate, but had avoided him for years. Why? Because in that book, Grace was a submissive wolf and he was the alpha of his pack. The plot of both books is about rogues attacks, pack betrayal, and included a few too many additional elements.
For the most part, I liked the changes here. However, I don’t understand the dragon-hybrid-thing, much like I didn’t understand why the other book made the wolves immortal. It detracted from the story of Grace’s and Sawyer’s relationship. It’s a personal preference, but I prefer emotional tension to gruesome fights.
