With millions of Kindle Unlimited pages read and over 100,000 copies sold, the author of the bestselling Novak and Mitchell series will keep you up all night with his trademark twists, gripping suspense, and globetrotting escapist action.
If you like David Baldacci and BBC’s Line of Duty and Bodyguard , this addictive series will leave you telling yourself ‘just one more page’.
I've been a fan of thrillers ever since watching All the President's Men when I was far too young to understand what was going on. Now every day I get to indulge in my passion for fast-paced stories, characters you really care about, and to bring you behind the scenes of the intelligence agencies and the most secretive parts of the political world (the parts they don't want you to know about).
It's often said that I write cinematically, which isn't a coincidence, as my influences are as much in cinema as literature: Daniel Craig's Bond films, Glengarry Glen Ross, Spartan. TV has also been a major factor in my writing. From the original BBC miniseries State of Play, David Simon's The Wire, and Aaron Sorkin, writer of The West Wing; and the US version of House of Cards.
I have worked in the book industry since I was 21.
The fourth installment in the Novak and Mitchell series is yet another enjoyable read full of vengeance and betrayal and the author, Andrew Raymond has done it again by penning this thrilling political masterpiece that keeps the reader glued on. This anecdote is a follow-on from the fiasco of the London bombings and its aftermath where the actions of UK PM Angela Curtis and the Hilderberg group are finally exposed. The unfortunate death of Republic editor-in-chief, Diane Schlesinger in the investigation of the conspiracy behind the London bombings has led to Stella Mitchell being appointed as the new Chief editor, and the pressures of the new role have already begun to take a toll on her.
This narrative opens with the death of an author who is ghostwriting the biography of the owner of a whistleblowing website, Griffin whose real identity is still unknown to the world. With this work now incomplete, the publishers of the book decide to rope in Tom Novak to finish this novel. Tom has a huge debt to pay off and the money from the proceeds of this novel entices him to take up this assignment. Additionally, with Stella beside him, he has confidence in finishing the novel. But what intrigues Tom is who would want to kill the ghostwriter of a biography of an owner? Tom begins to delve into the incomplete work of the author and his investigations lead them to a member of the British royal family and also a deep-rooted connection to Stella’s mother.
As their investigation progresses, Novak and Mitchell soon realize that they are wading through perilous waters. Someone is trying to stop them from finishing this biography and does not want documents about the British royal secrets from reaching the hands of the whistleblowing website, one that could cause embarrassment to the royal family. But are they the only ones involved in this or is it just the tip of the iceberg? With Novak and Stella in deep trouble already, would they need the help of their friends in the UK - Rebecca Fox and Leon Walker and the specialized skills officer of the CIA, Walter Sharpe? There is also an introduction of a new character Ralph Ogden, whose inclusion into this investigative plot has added a new dimension to the overall machination.
This series by far has been one of my best reads in 2023. As the story unfolds from the first installment until this fourth one, there is certainly something more brewing in the relationship between Novak and Mitchell. However, the author cleverly directed the plot such that it does not distract from the mainstream of suspense, thrill, betrayal, and conspiracy. These four episodes have certainly made me a big fan of the author and can’t wait for more of the duo in the series. Also hope, we can see more of Rebecca, Walter, Leon, and others in the upcoming series. A big thanks to the author for keeping me engaged in this high-octane series.
A topical tale of intrigue and current events. I hadn't read the first 3 books, but I don't feel like it detracted too much from my understanding of the characters. An all too likely chain of events.
Brilliant! This book brings lots of current issues including poisoning, an out of control arrogant royal, conspiracy theories and leaks. Great book, I couldn’t put it down. Why a great story teller!
This book borrowed much from world affairs, but fictionalized the details. It takes a very cynical view of the world. Nothing is what it seems. No one is who they say they are. It all makes sense in the end.
This is another fabulous read from Andrew in what is already an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable Novak and Mitchell series.
This time, the story is quite topical with whistleblowers, Wikileaks-type events, and even poisoning. The story grabs you from the start with the death of an author who is ghost-writing the biography of the owner of the Griffin whistleblowing website , an owner who people have no idea who his real identity is.
The suspense and thrills never let up. We have a more human side in this story as Stella reunites with her mother, and also the introduction of Ralph Ogden, who works from home and has 2 young children.
I absolutely loved this, the pure adrenaline rush, intrigue and suspense was a great escape which is what a book should always be. I can't wait for the next book in this great series.
far fetched at times and with a few inaccuracies that ought to have been picked up in the editing process but nevertheless I think it is the best of the Novak/Mitchell series to date
Andrew Raymond has done it again! After flying through the first three Novak and Mitchell books, I was hopelessly hooked and awaited this latest instalment with bated breath. A master at world-building, Raymond takes the reader on another intriguing ride inside the world of our two intrepid reporters, Tom Novak and Stella Mitchell.
This is definitely a more intimate affair for Tom and Stella but by no means does it detract from the suspense and thrills we’ve come to expect from Raymond. The relationship between Tom and Stella is most definitely one of the highlights of the series for me and this instalment certainly does not disappoint in portraying their close and enduring bond. Also, I must say I really enjoyed the introduction of character Ralph Ogden, his humanity and charm is a welcome and refreshing addition and seeing Novak and Mitchell experience some of that was delightful.
Gripped from start to finish, I enjoyed every moment of True Republic. Congratulations to Andrew Raymond for churning out another belter! Can’t wait for more.
I would not be surprised if Andrew, himself, wasn’t on a security services list somewhere, (joking). TRUE REPUBLIC is a real page-turner. The element of suspense carries through, via some red herrings, to the final chapters and a brilliant denouement. The revelations about the inside workings of the publishing industry are very frank, and to me (an author manque) who self published on Amazon - with zero sales - I can understand why my Scott’s Law thriller has been a spectacular flop. On Kindle, I am Callum Dalziel, if anyone wants to read The Viewpoint Murders. Thank you, Andrew Raymond for your wonderful novels, all recommended by me including the Scottish detective series.
I have loved every book in this series, the author has created characters full of depth, warmth & faults which endear them to the reader. I find Andrew Raymond's style of writing to be very engaging, his stories are quite clever and unfold at just the right rate of pace. The biggest compliment I can give is that I put 'life' on hold & just read his books as I really do not want to put them down . I highly recommend that you start with the first book in this series as they follow on from each other & the character build up , explanation, growth & their journey together will be fully experienced by the reader & make perfect sense. Enjoy 😉
Novak and Mitchell return with something very different. While the tale takes place over a short period of time, the narrative seems much slower paced than their earlier outings. The compressed timeframe means the narrative has more of a real time feel than before.
The plot is original, the twists are plausible, the new characters are believable. Novak is taken to Mitchell’s world, where everything is alien to him. Mitchell takes more of a central role. What is not to like?
As ever, Andrew Raymond takes you on a journey or people and plot, holds your hand through it but makes your mind drift to possibilities. Another excellent read.
This is the 4th book in the series and whilst still a very enjoyable read, I didn’t find it as good as the first three, which were cracking stories. I felt the earlier books had a bit more action throughout. On saying that, this was still a great read. This could be read as a standalone book, but I would recommend you read the first three, else you are missing out. 4.75 out of 5 from me.
Unlike the first three books which were all action packed and thoroughly enjoyable , this one was severely short of any action and was very dull and not what I was expecting.
Another good read in the now well known Andrew Raymond style. Lots of twists and turns and characters to like and dislike. Always shows great insight into the political intrigues of today.
I like the characters of Novak and Mitchell, they are believable and keep you interested in the story as the plot unfolds. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Great read ,read the Series in order it helps keep everyone in order. The plot is easy to follow and I enjoyed the books very much .recommended for anyone who enjoys mystery book ,spy books and adventure.
This wasn't quite as pacy as the first 3 instalments. However, it was still a really good read. I would have given 4.5 stars but have rounded it up to 5 as I found it not to be quite as good as the first 3 in the series. It hasn't stopped me moving on to the 5th book though!
Yet again a cracking read from a British author, who can certainly teach his US counterparts a thing or two. Interesting concept with plenty of twists and turns, although I did find the ending a bit confusing
An enjoyable and satisfying read. I've read the previous three Novak and Mitchell books, all of which were excellent. This one follows on but is different, in a good way.
Another great read from this brilliant author. Please find him a decent editor though, lots of grammatical errors, although doesn't detract from the story.
No ususally a 'spy' book reader, but I do like these stories. Got a bit confused at the end and had to backtrack a few page, but that could be me. Like the characters and will keep reading these.
✨ True Republic is the fourth book in Andrew Raymond’s Mitchell and Novak series
✨ The story is as captivating as I’ve come to expect from this author and I read straight for several hours to find out what happens! I literally couldn’t put it down!
✨However, I felt some scenes were too acutely taken from recent current affairs and people that made it a little cringey to read. Perhaps it’s just that it felt like similar plot lines had already been exhausted?
✨Additionally, there were some small inconsistencies I wasn’t sure were clearly explained, such as how one of the characters is arrested in Germany by a British police officer and the next day being interviewed in London. Surely the British police don’t have any powers of arrest in Germany and isn’t there a formal extradition process to go though? A minor additional point but, an American character talks of biscuits at publishing meetings, I know he’s spent some time with Stella, but as an American he’s more likely to refer to these as cookies not biscuits!
✨ Unexpectedly I felt myself suddenly longing for some romantic connection between Stella and Novak. I didn’t get this feeling the first two books, although there were some moments in the third I did. Not sure whether this was the authors’ intention with True Republic, but the characters’ relationship deepens in this book and you can see their commitment to one another very clearly here. Dare I say it, but I hope that in future books their relationship blossoms further.
