Another fun story by Jiang Zi Bei that is set in the same universe as I Can Do It and Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating. The game sequences and the streaming commentaries were once again excellent. The romance was imo a bit too cheesy and too much for my liking - insofar as I couldn’t take Yi Chen that seriously. But I really loved Yu Yan. And it was just the lighthearted read I was in the mood for right now. So, I had a great time reading the whole story.
If you have ever found yourself screaming at a video game screen, you will instantly find a kindred spirit in Yu Yan. Jiang Zi Bei’s PUBG Online Romance of the Century is a hilarious, lighthearted dive into the chaotic world of game streaming, delivering a romance that is just as satisfying as a perfectly executed sniper headshot.
Our protagonist, Yu Yan, is a fiercely skilled, delightfully foul-mouthed PUBG streamer known for two specific things: his terrifyingly accurate rifle skills and his absolute, stubborn refusal to loot houses. He is feral, highly entertaining, and entirely merciless to his in-game opponents. Enter Yi Chen, a mature, wealthy boss who stumbles into Yu Yan's stream, casually drops a mountain of digital gifts, and eventually ends up as his in-game duo partner.
The absolute comedic brilliance of this novel lies in the glorious contrast of their dynamic. Online, Yu Yan is a sharp-tongued terror who will relentlessly trash-talk anyone unlucky enough to cross his path. But the moment the calm, teasing, and incredibly patient Yi Chen gives him even a shred of genuine affection, Yu Yan instantly short-circuits into a blushing, stuttering mess. Watching Yi Chen smoothly navigate Yu Yan's prickly, aggressive exterior to uncover the giant, easily flustered softie underneath is pure, unadulterated comedic gold.
Furthermore, Jiang Zi Bei perfectly captures the chaotic energy of livestream culture. Yu Yan's chat is practically a character in its own right, constantly roasting their own streamer while eagerly eating up the romantic "dog food" whenever Yi Chen is in the lobby. It is a low-angst, unapologetically fluffy, and ridiculously entertaining read. You don't even need to know how to play PUBG to fall completely in love with these two.
After reading four books from this author, I just gotta come and compliment their gaming writings, I feel like the authors knowledge on LoL is deep, cause of ICDI and some LoL terms in this book too, overall I love it sm
It was so cute and wholesome hahaha. And am so dissapointed in people that insulted Yu Yan cause of the his low education, not everyone is interested in studying, but how society painted them as bad and that if you don't go to school you end up as sososo, stop pointing fingers, leave them be. At least my bby is confident in himself that's the spirit
Same author as "I Can Do It" I'm pretty sure I read this twice but I can't believe that I have forgotten to reviewed it. Anyways, IMO it's not as good as ICDI but it was better than How to Fail at Online Dating.
MC has a pretty sad(?)/ pathetic start at the beginning but I'm glad that he met ML who slowly helped him to get revenge. The interactions of the side CP was also great making me enjoy the novel thoroughly. There's fluff, smut and face-slapping, what more can I ask for?
Author Jiang has never disappointed me. I heard this was an earlier work than ICDI, WFMAS, and GOHTFAOD but it's still such a good story. I genuinely enjoyed the side couple too as they were a little bit more intense than the main couple IMO.
