A Decent Read

The story overall was very interesting as for a book on espionage. I would have given this book a 4/5 star except whoever transcribed it did a horrible job. Way to many grammatical mistakes. Almost at times thought I was reading a book written by a teenager.

I love the story with all of its twists. The characters continue to evolve. The only problem I have is the poor editing. There are too many grammatical errors. They tend to distract from the book. However, I generally read right through them, seeing what I know what should have been written. I think the only reason I picked up on them more in this book than I did in the first is that another reader pointed out the problem. So, I occasionally became annoyed by the problems. I didn't let it distract my enjoyment of the book. I will continue to read the series.

A great book in the Jason Drake series.

On Inauguration Day, President Roy Clarkson is wounded but five others near his side have been killed. His assassin has been identified as a man having a scar on his face and a tattoo on his wrist. Unfortunately, that description fits Jason Drake who has been living up in wintery South Dakota.

Add to that is a secret bevy of former CIA assassins trained in a specialized program called the Terminus Project. And this group has their own dangerous agenda.

Now Jason Drake has barely two days to prove he wasn't the assassin. And, in the mean time, he has to figure out how to stay alive over the next forty-eight hours.

It's a thrilling ride which includes danger for Drake and many surprises for the reader!

Not a bad book, needs more editing.

Very good book, fast paced plenty of action. Main protagonist does not have very much character needs to improve.
A lot of typos in this book, plenty of grammatical errors. There is so many that I wonder if this authors first language is English. He says things that are wrong in his tense structure such as they sit instead of they sat. Sometimes the typos and errors take you out of the story. If this author does not have a editor, he really needs to get one. If you don’t mind the typos and grammatical errors this is not a bad book at all.

On Inauguration Day, 5 people on dias and the President are shot -only the President survives. Jason is in the Dakota's hunting animals for the local sheriff but he is still suspected of the shooting as a witness comes forward with tattoo and scar info that match him.

There is however one other guy from his experimental CIA days at Terminus that carries the same scars and everyone including the CIA thought those 5 were dead- well surprise, they're not and Jason has to prove his own innocence.

A bit better than book one but oh so many editing & spelling errors.

I know this is fiction but I feel Jason Drake books are missing something (can't say what) I found when reading similar series (Mitch Rapp, Jon Reznick, Courtland Gentry, Levi Yoder, Jack Reacher....).
Anyway, it's interesting and entertains me enough to keep on reading the rest.
In this second book, former brothers in arms of Jason (something I suspected while reading first one) are back to give him some hard time but there is also the end fo an open thread set at the end of the previous book and that results in a new incentive for the third one.

Good plot

An interesting premise in this story. The idea of altering DNA to create a super soldier is probably going on now. Yet I liked the idea that a man of conscience was part of the team and at least one of the subject soldiers did not buy in. Lots of team work in this story and a fair amount of insanity which is the product of greed. It certainly held my attention. The book needs editing as there are many missing words.

Needs More Comprehensive Editing

The book is an excellent read. My concern, “Who is doing the editing of the final manuscript?”.
There are major editing mistakes in this book. Incomplete sentences, key words, prepositions, etc. are missing. You have to literally fill in the blanks throughout much of the book to get through it! Though it’s not difficult to do, it’s a pain, and it’s unprofessional, and incomplete.

Again, a true page turned to the end.

The characters are well developed and relatable. There is plenty of suspense to go around. I never hit a dull point to skip over as in many other novels I have read by others. Thank you Austin for another book that hits the mark hard. Other than some typos, I had zero complaints. Now on to the next in this series. I highly recommend anyone that likes thrillers and suspense to dive into the series head first.

This is a great continuation from book 1. You’re still on a great ride alongside Jason Drake. I’m usually a stickler for grammar and spelling, but Auston even discloses that he doesn’t have an editor; he’s getting these great books out there for the masses, and he doesn’t need to charge millions of dollars to do it. The amount of self-awareness from the author is great to see. I’ll be finishing each of his books, indubitably.

Action packed thriller hits the target!

Plot, characters, action, twists were all very good, however grammatical errors were devastating and slowed down enjoyment. If you need an intelligent English proofreader, I'll gladly help. Looking forward to more great books from Austen King.

Great Story, but ....

This book told a great story. I was particularly fascinated with the links in the Afterword. Interesting, and scary, stuff! My only complaint is the numerous typographical and grammatical errors that were so numerous that they, at times, detrcted from the story.

Just something about a book that has no resolution other than making you buy another book to hopefully give a satisfactory conclusion. Book was good and I was anxiously anticipating a a thrill packed conclusion only to see an ad for the next in series. How disappointing. It had a way of making me feel cheated by making what I had just read inconquisential. All foreplay, no sex.

Review of the Assassin s Game

The 2and book in the Jason Drake series is very interesting, it is a very timely story and very realistic. The Cold War is over and Russia is more dangerous now, they are able to bribe and influence people in our military and the CIA. Drake no matter how badly he wants to retire from the CIA, is unable to do so

Quirky, unique characters set this book apart from the usual “lone assassin” fare. Fast paced, it’s impossible to put down. The author laid the background for this tale in his previous novel (Assassin’s Betrayal), but expertly wove in enough of the backstory that this book works very well as a standalone novel without ruining the first one for the reader. You’ll want to read both!

exciting plot

The plot was exciting and moved well. The part I didn’t like is the horrible job the proofreader did! Words left out, incorrect grammar, punctuation incorrect. Don’t expect this from published author- detracts from story.

hire a proof reader for god’s sake

Here is a direct quote from the book, “Why are you hear?” I could overlook one or two errors like this, but there were several, and worse. It was incredibly distracting and annoying.

Pretty good

Lots of guns, knives and fist fights, drama and spy stuff, I wish the author would find a different word than "grunt" I grunt during a bowel movement, trolls and evil giants grunt, its such a negative sounding word.

For a new indie author I feel like Auston has done a great job. I am on book four and have enjoyed them all. There are some editing issues but no more than a lot of other books I have read. There are a few continuity issues between books but I am willing to overlook them as that happens with a lot of authors. I stopped reading mainstream books because they were all predictable. These books have been unpredictable and that is the fun of reading.

Junk

As soon as I read the description of the Director of the FBI, in the first chapter, I fast forwarded to the end to write this review. Writers should have more respect for the institution that they pretend to depict.

Adventure awaits!

Get ready to go on an adventure without ever physically leaving home! Have gun, will travel could easily be applied to Jason Drake. Jason is always in the middle of the action, and I enjoy reading about his exploits. Keep up the great work Austin King!

The plot is solid enough to create a page turner but the poor quality of the proof reading makes for an upsetting read at times. Missing words,
extra words, complete nonsense. Austen, please up your game. Easily avoidable mistakes.

Great read

This book has some twists and turns that keep you interested. The only issue I had was the frequency of the spelling errors, thus the removal of a star. Overall, a great book.

The story line is good and engaging. The editing is horrible and disengaging. Most notably in a character’s voice, but also elsewhere. For example, 2nd Paragraph Chapter 71 “he said quietly to himself quietly “.

Great action thriller

I truly appreciate a hood action thriller with spies and all the subterfuge that goes along with it. This met that criteria. If you like Mitch Rapp or Jack Reached read this book.

Peace…at last

Another action packed book to traverse the spy world from Scotland to Russia to the US. This was quite exciting for us thrill seekers and loyal to Jason, Kate, Colt and a new character introduced. I won’t spoil it…just read on !
