Started to lose interest at the end of book 1. Skimmed the end of that and skimmed what I've read of book 2.
Lots of good in the story - I like Mikka who is really badass and the world is interesting. The love interests are OK. Rome was the most interesting, being broody and recently banished and kind of her savior. Connor was too happy - like kind of annoyingly endearing - but not in the way I like. Bastien was sort of aloof. I think that in one man, the personalities of the guys might have been appealing but as three separate characters, I was less impressed. Maybe losing my reverse harem interest - having read some good M/F books recently, not sure.
The plot wasn't anything special and the characters weren't anything new. The story was just a little boring, unfortunately. It might just be me and my mood. I'm busy right now and work is calling to me - distracting me from settling in.

Kindle. 3.7. My interest definitely nosed dived in the second book. It got boring and I was dragging my feet to finish. I think more could have been done with storyline but it just felt stagnant with no motion forward. Then the ending was a last ditch effort to continue. Started to stray a little onto the childish thinking/mindsets side.

The beauty of this series is in book 1 (for me) you start to believe the narrow minded way that Mikka does (in regards to the Vampires) but things seem to change her point of view in this book. So much so that you dont know who the bad and good guys are. I really liked that. It kept you on your toes. Mikka has to find her feet in this in this new world and all that goes with it. As well as still keeping her humanity and strong will. I loved her relationship with Rome, Connor and Bastian from the first book and in this one it goes up a level. So does the sexy times. That ending was just knockout!! A cracking read. Bring on book 3 now because i cant wait to read it

I loved this book! I love how she connects with each of her vampires even though she swore to kill them all. I love that she does her best to get Jessica and Nathan out and hate what happens. I hate what happened to Jessica because she never deserved that. I love how they all rebelled in the end and try to make a difference in the world.

When your worst nightmare happened
This book was all about how Mikka would deal with her new self. How could you accept what you became when it's exactly what you hate the most in the world?
Her relationship with Bastian reflected perfectly what she felt inside and how important she had first to process her own problem before being ready to bound with him. And by the way it was the same for him. This guy had to resolve a LOT of things🙄
Well, at the end he finally decided to take charge of his own life and all hell broke loose🙈😅 Luckily, Rome and Connod were here for supporting Mikka and showing her that not all vampires are monsters. We'll see...

Mikka's story continues in Dark Legacy the second book in the Kingdom of Blood series and it was excellent. Mikka is adjusting to her new life, the steam between her and the guys is fire, there's vampire politics, and Mikka being Mikka, which of course put me on edge as all Callie's books do but it's worth it.
So Mikka is a vampire and not happy about it but Mikka is still Mikka, strong-willed, protective of others, and determined to bring down the vampires at all cost. Mikka is pushing for change, challenging Prince Bastian to take a real look at the society he rules, things aren't easy between them but Mikka is starting to realize there might be more to the prince than she was willing to realize. Mikka is starting to care for all three of her vampires, each has qualities that call to her. Yeah, there's an attraction but Mikka is starting to bond to them and them to her on an emotional level through varying experiences as well. Bastian with his loss, Rome with his protective nature, and Connor brings happiness to her heart that she needs in a time like this. Mikka's growing closer to each one of them and they are changing her mind about things, she's not seeing things so black and white anymore.
Now that Mikka is a vampire she gets a better look at vampire politics and things are even worse than she thought. The council obviously can't be trusted to want humane conditions for the tributes and they seem to have a lot more power than they should. Things look pretty bad for the humans with Tyresius and Lizbeth leading the helm, trying to make circumstances even worse, trapping the humans in worse contracts. I will admit when they explained the contracts I couldn't help but feel the fury that Mikka did, the vampires are beyond cruel and the system is rigged.
The last fourth of Dark Legacy was mind-blowing. Mikka's influence has lead to surprising consequences that I did not see coming, with a shocking revelation about Mikka herself. The ending was intense, filled with action and emotion and a few things that had my jaw-dropping. The enemy has shown his hand and I can't wait to see how Mikka's story concludes in the final book, Vampire Wars.

Usually I am much more lenient about the first book of a series. The first book I rated 4 stars (more like 3.5); the second book did not capitalize on the excitement of the first book.
What REALLY made me stop reading- the absolute disbelief I was feeling. You mean to tell me that this ~500 years old vampire had NO CLUE about the contracts? Or about how the tributes were funneled into bad situations until they had no one else to turn to???? Oh well, since he was depressed after his parents' death (iirc, there were multiple decades of mourning, perhaps centuries), then it's totally acceptable for him to stick his head in the sand.
I am just utterly confused about how he didn't know. With his super-senses (hearing in particular), the dumbass council members barely hiding anything, the centuries he's been alive, and the dozens upon dozens of tributes he's probably fed off of.....he didn't have ANY CLUE??!!
Nope, not buying it.
The main character also takes a bit of a nosedive. She becomes a lot more involved with the romantic interests, but it feels strange since they do not interact with each other at all (and Bastien and Connor are supposed to be buddies). Beyond that, her efforts to dismantle the vampires and get Nathan out seem very feeble. She just seems to constantly get pushed around.
A pet peeve of mine was employed: the "we don't need words to communicate" between Mikka and Rome. OK, but I need words. Please.
Not only that, but it doesn't make sense that the council members discover a vampire hunter and decide to make her into a vampire, allow her to stay with a royal family member, attend important meetings, and walk about freely. Didn't it cross their minds that she would....still....not...like most other vampires? Especially after what she says in the council meeting??
Not buying that one either.
I couldn't help but compare this to Beautiful Monsters by Jex Lane, which is one of my favorite series. I think the comparison increases my disappointment.
Sadly I must part ways with this series. It isn't going to work out.

Mikka has been turned into a vampire. She’s in the dungeon and doesn’t want to drink the blood they are providing her with. Still Connor brings her a goblet every day and when he sees her weak and unresponsive he gets Bastian to intervene. She’s mad at Bastian for not killing her before she transitioned, but he gets her to eventually drink by telling her about a vampire who went on strike for ten years without blood and didn’t die.
Bastian collects her from the dungeon saying she was now his ward to watch over. So she had to stick by his side. She returned back to the dinners but now she’s a vampire and not a tribute. She continues to dance with Connor and kiss him even though Bastian is clearly jealous. She’s mad also finds time to spend with Rome. Rome explained that he had fallen in love with a tribute, but didn’t want to bond with her because he wanted their love to be real not fabricated, but a vicious vampire bonded with her just to mess with him, and when he saved her from him and eventually killed him Rome was exiled for 100years. He came back to save as many tributes as he could.
Bastian started to see the error of his ways and agreed to step up and take his rightful place in the monarchy, but when he did Tyresieus challenged him with the law of Abel. Which basically meant a human couldn’t sway the leaders thinking and since Mikka was closer to human than vampire and had clearly swain Bastian he was in violation. He was challenged to a dwell, but in the dwell Tyresieus took a potion that made him stronger and he defeated Bastian. Almost dead, they took Bastian up to the roof where he would burn to death in the sun, but Mikka ran out into the sunlight to save him and realized the sun didn’t burn her. She got him free and took him to Nathan’s old apartment. Nathan, Jessica, Connor, and Rome all showed up ready to stand by Bastian and Mikka in the war that is sure to come.

I loved this book, it was better than book 1. I love all of Callie Rose's books so far, but I will admit she does lack in book 3 of her series. So I'm hoping that book 3 in this series will be a lot better than I have experienced in the past.

I read the compilation of the series. So, I wrote a single review for all three books. I do not feel like the individual books would stand alone. So, I suggest picking up all three if you plan to read the series.
I'll reluctantly round this series up to a three. The first book was weak. But I stuck with it, hoping it was just first-book syndrome and the series would improve. Book two coasted on about the same. But by the third book, I was skimming, at best.
I didn't care about anyone or anything and only finished it to have finished it. When rating them individually, I gave books one and two low three stars and book three a two-star rating. Not so much because the quality dropped any lower, but because the author just wholly failed to bring the series into anything worth having stuck around through all three books.
The world is barely fleshed out. The plot is simplistic and stretches over far more pages than needed. The romance is instant and doesn't even particularly make sense. Three times, in fact, the romance is instant and doesn't even particularly make sense. The sex scenes might have been considered fine if I cared about any of the characters. But I didn't, so they didn't have any emotional impact. The heroine is oh-so-special for no apparent reason, while the heroes are characterless cardboard cutouts. And the narration is overblown, though I'll acknowledge that the mechanical writing is fine.
All in all, this series was tolerable. I'm just glad to be finished.

Book two picks up right where book one left us....in the cell....pissed off. Mikka was so strong, so goal driven in the first book, and she continues to show that strength and determination. The three guys circling around her turn up the heat, and we get so much more out of them. I loved getting more personal with them. Tension is high though, and you just know some things are about to hit the fan. Let's just say that I really hate being right sometimes. It's chaos, complete and utter chaos is unleashed. Holy cow, someone hold my drink, I need to pace so I don't combust. Traitors, traitors, traitors, dirty conniving traitors! I feel the need to shout "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!" But, but, but....there is a flip side to that unfortunate shitshow, a moment I've been waiting for, and it's finally here! However, I have to wait for the next book to really see how it plays out. Oh, all the wonderful, but also bloody, and deadly things to come. It's so exciting.

Get the fans out, coz theres plenty of steam in this book. Lots of sneaky moments in dark corners!
I loved how the reletionships between the main characters progressed, but If I'm honest I still couldn't pick just one of the guys!
Rome is the protector, Connor is pure sweetness and Prince Bastian is full of surprises! Each one appeals in a different way!
Mikka is tough, independent and not afraid to stand up in the face of adversity. She's feisty, and fiery yet understanding and real.
The characters compliment each other, whether they know it or not!
A fantastic continuation of the story, and I can't wait for the third book in this series!

Straight in where Book 1 left off. Mikka’s tale takes an enormous turn. Book 2 continues to build on the characters and world we were introduced to in Book 1. As a newly turned vampire, we learn more about vampire politics in the nest, and more about Rome, Connor and Bastien. Plus their relationships go from 1 to smoking in this book, so be prepared!
Dark Legacy sets the scene brilliantly for what is going to be a storming finale. I don’t want to give anything away, as I read this blind and therefore got to enjoy all the intricacies. Callie Rose is great at setting the scene and building characters you want to follow. I’ll be counting down for the release of Vampire Wars.
This is a well paced, great story if you love Vampires and vampire politics. Mikka’s character is a strong female lead with quite a few tricks up her sleeve. Recommended for all Vampire lovers out there.

Dark Legacy
Man oh man, it just keeps getting better and better. You’re a vampire slayer. You kill vampires. You protect humans, but what happens when you become the very thing you hate? Well? Revenge of course. You figure out how to take them down from the inside. You certainly don’t fall for one or actually three vampires. You definitely don’t let them steal your heart. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter how hard you try to protect your stubborn self your heart has other plans. Lines are crossed, war is coming and one vampire slayer, two humans and three vampires are in for one hell of a fight. Truly hoping that in book 3 I get my HEA because this has been one crazy ride and I can not wait to see where this goes.

October 22, 2021The plot really took a nose dive in this one, unfortunately. There was a lot of angsty character and relationship development but not much of a plot to tie it all together. I got bored pretty early.
One thing that seemed so silly to me was Mikka's constant concern about the hostility she faced from the other vamps and the guards. She kept wondering if the guards would step in and protect her if someone tried to hurt her.
Um, no, honey - why would they? You're a prisoner, remember? An enemy of their/your kind? She didn't really behave like you expect. The focused, capable and independent Hunter we saw in Book 1 took a backseat in favour of the far less likeable, thoughtless, d*ckmatised, hot-headed Mikka. I dnfed at under 50%

Not the smoothest, but I read til the end
Well, I’m relieved it’s a trilogy and ending. I can’t imagine it being a longer series with the writing pace and selective spotlights.
Mikki is a vampire, and she struggles. I thought the prince was super awkward but I think it was because he was less of a power house and more of a kicked puppy who needed a moral compass to encourage him onwards. Not something I expected but I could appreciate a good man in need.
The focus was a lot on sex with the guys. When the ending came up the way I did, I rolled my eyes because it was just so… random. And yet not, with the way things were going. Like an “aha!” from a villain you can’t take seriously.
I’m glad they’re all together and hey, I read til the end.

After the cliffhanger that took place in book one, I’ve been desperately awaiting book two to know what was going to happen to Mikka after she became the thing she hated most.
I loved seeing the character progression in this one and watching the relationship grow with Mikka and her men. Her and Connor together are the sweetest of all sweet and her and Bast are the definition of passion!
I do hope that we can see more of Rome in the next book, we saw bits and pieces but I feel as though he may have been glossed over a little bit.

Another good read
Mikka has been forcefully turned into a vampire. She is now in a rotten, cold cell praying for her death. Connor comes daily to give her a goblet of blood but she hates that she has to drink it so she doesn't.
Bastian tells her that it would take a very long time for a vampire to starve themselves and it would probably send her and first. He gives her some of his blood and offers her a way out of her cell. He will look after her and school her on vampire rules, as long as she behaves.
Time and Mikka still can't keep their hands off each other and things are hitting up between her and Dinner too.

This book was amazing!!! It has everything I love in a book steamy scenes, action, and a strong fmc. In Dark Legacy Mikka is now officially a vampire and man is she angry about it. After finally accepting what she is she finds solace in Connor, Rome, and eventually Bastian. I honestly can choose a favorite at this point. The action in this book was freaking awesome! I love how Mikka continued to stand up for what she believed in regardless of the consequences. And the ending!!! Ahhh!! I need to know what happens next.

The war is coming
I waited what feels like forever for this book and devoured it in less than 24 hours!
We left off with mikka’s transformation and it was on such a devastating note that we pick up and leave this book. Number 2 in this series is full of beautiful moments and dark tormented life or death situations that leave you wanted nothing more than for Mikka and her boys to have the happy ending they deserve, unfortunately they are not getting it in this book and I will keep my fingers crossed it comes in the final book.

I'm in love with this series! The ending totally surprised me and that's a pretty hard thing to do 😂 I'm so emotionally invested in these characters and that hasn't happened in a while. I'm really surprised I haven't heard about this book in any of the groups I'm in.

This book was crazy!!! Connor is sweet and gentle, Rome is protective and observant and Bastian is dominant and feels so much. I was so happy when he decided to stand up to the council. I was honestly shocked he lost but Tyresius did cheat. Was he the one that murdered that girl brutally in the ally? How can she walk in the sun and not burn? I was honestly so happy when I realized that Bastian gave her poison when she asked even if it didn’t work. What is she? How did Connor and Rome get Jessica and Nathan out? What happens now?

After the cliffhanger from the first book and Mikka surviving the transition to the one thing she hates most, I was wondering how Mikka would handle it, but when Bastia, Rome and Conner all show they have a little humanity left it puts her at a crossroad. I love all her guys, but absolutely love the light she put into Bastian eye’s after 150+ years. However she sure did get herself into a bit of a mess at the end. Looking forward to seeing how she gets out of it in the next book.

From the moment that I started reading this book I knew that there was something special about it. It grabbed me as soon as I started reading and would not let me go. It moves along at a pace which made for a very enjoyable and relaxing read. I was able to lose myself totally in this book and before I knew it I had finished it. You will fall in love with these characters and you want to know more about them. this book has got to be read. There is no doubts about it.

We left off with Mikka becoming everything she despises and soon learn the secrets, history and realities that face her three love insterests.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I was not left disappointed by this book. It was actioned packed and I was hooked from the start to the end.
Cannot wait for book three.
