BOOK Alex Stewart is dead. Murdered. While The TEAM struggles to deal with the blow they never saw coming, Junior Agent Gabe Cartwright is assigned to protect Alex's widow, Kelsey. Already haunted by the fear that he let his boss die, Gabe vows to protect her with his life. Nothing and no one will get in his way-until bossy Nurse Sullivan arrives to care for Kelsey. Sullivan is anti-gun, anti-dog, and seemingly anti-the whole male gender. The last damned thing he needs... It's her way or the highway. Shelby Sullivan is an admitted control freak. She loves her new client, Kelsey Stewart, and intends to help her in any way possible, but Shelby has no use for her two bodyguards. Not even the semi-charming Agent Cartwright will interfere with the perfect performance of her duties-until she disregards his protection measures and leads Death straight back to Kelsey. Gabe isn't the only one who's haunted by his past...
Growing up in the countryside of Wisconsin, I always wanted to be a writer. I've dabbled in poetry, short stories, and more daydreaming than most. Way back when, I remember long Sunday afternoon drives with my parents where they'd tell us eight kids to, 'Look out the window and see something!'
I've been looking out the window ever since . . .
In the great Northwest pines, I saw a woman who had nowhere to run find refuge in the arms of a tender warrior seeking his own road to healing. In the hills of Wyoming, I saw a broken man who thought he'd lost everything rediscover the man he was in the eyes of a pretty girl. And in the Dairy State, (yes Wisconsin), I saw two people fall in love and overcome horrific obstacles on their way to happily-ever-after.
Life is short. Pick up a good book. Read. Write. Enjoy. Look out the window and see something!
Despite the occasional editorial glitch, this was a fabulous book. Supporting characters had distinct personalities and the action felt real. The suspense was skillfully leavened with emotion and humor. The scene with Harley and his wife in the hospital made me laugh aloud. There isn't much sex in this romance, but what there is isn't forced and is well written. I do believe I have found a new favorite author.
Gabe is the eighth romantic suspense book in The Company of Snipers series written by author Irish Winters. Each story has been excellent, but Gabe has a more complex storyline.
The heroine has to keep control, and keeping control means keeping control of everything. She doesn’t care if her new client has bodyguards or not because she wasn’t there for them – only for her client. If her client needs something, she will get it, make it or do it for her. Just because our hero has her mind shifting from care of her client to how to care for him doesn’t matter because her client is always first.
Our hero is the one who sees his boss get shot, tries to help him, but he ends up dying. However, he has huge amount of guilt on his shoulders because he couldn’t help his boss when he needed him. He definitely won’t let anything happen to his boss’ widow now, not even at the expense of his nurse and our heroine.
The plot is Wow. This has to be one of my most favorite books in the whole series. The way the entire team is involved and how everyone works together to support and care for each other. Wow. Then when their boss’ widow is nearly killed twice, and her nurse at least once, something has to give and that something will not be either of the women each of the men vow. However, when people and things make an unexpected turns, can they handle it or will this be when the team is taken down?
This is the 7th from this series, and it has to be one of the best books in the series. I'd give it a 10 out of 10 if I could. I wonder if the author has kicked up better plot lines in the next books?
Once again, Irish Winters pulls me into a book and doesn't let me out until it's over! This story packs an emotional punch to the team as Alex Stewart, their boss is pronounced dead. That can't be true! But they saw it happen, they watched him die. Now trying to adjust to their new normal and help Kelsey, life begins to take a new shape. There is doubt lingering though, and hints that Alex is still out there. A new danger is lurking. Who can they trust? Gabe is new to the company. An amputee, his military career ended, but he still has a lot to give. And he does just that. Risking his life, and falling for Kelsey's nurse, we find the essence of Gabe. He is quite the hero and doesn't stop til the job is done. I have listened to all the books up to this point, and each time I listen I find a new favorite. This one is very special I think because it encompasses not only our new hero, but all the characters we know and love. We felt their pain, frustration and love for Alex and each other. Their undying loyalty to the country and finding the truth is admirable and just leaves me wanting to start the next book.
Troy Duran continues his fantastic narration of this series. He truly is a gem when it comes to these heroes. Each voice consistent for each character between books, he is smooth as silk. He has an incredible ability to build suspense and pull us into the story. I enjoy his performances and this one is stellar.
This is the eighth book in the amazing Series In The Company of Snipers, a Romantic Suspense. I recommend you to listen to this Series in order. This installment is emotional and enthralling. Gabe and Shelby are great characters. The cast of supporting characters is amazing. I love these Series with characters intertwined. The storyline is filled with mystery, action, suspense, and twists and turns. This is another great addition to the Series. Troy Duran did a wonderful job with the narration. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Maverick. If you like Romantic Suspense, this Series is definitely for you. I HIGHLY recommend it.
“Are you going to talk all day or are you going to kiss me?” This is Gabe & Shelby’s love story, and Kelsey’s love and belief that her husband was still alive. Excellent story
I received this book free through Writerspace. I found this story is more attention-holding than Hunter, the first of the series that I read, because the characters are a bit more real and believable.
From the moment you start reading this new addition to the series, there is no doubt that this is a story that will take the reader on a wild ride.
The moment Alex is shot and Gabe tries, with all he has to save him, Gabe knows that he won't be the same. The dynamics of the TEAM start changing little by little even though Mark tries to keep it all under control, but there's not doubt that the death of their leader has changed each and every member one way or another. The most painful change is that of Alex's widow. My heart went out to Kelsey, I wanted to hug her at times, the love she had for Alex was so incredibly beautiful, a true testament of what soulmates are supposed to be. Her grieve and other situations going on became debilitating at one point, and the TEAM hires her a nursing assistant. Good (and very bossy,) Shelby Sullivan, is assigned to take care of Kelsey. The last thing she imagines is the big adventure ahead of her and the very handsome man assigned to keep Kelsey safe.
I like a book that keeps me guessing, I like a book that makes me think and transport me to a world that I can become a part of, and this is what Mrs. Winters does throughout the whole story. I like that all her male characters are alpha in some respect but they're not over the top, and I love that the female characters are strong and ready to go toe to toe with the guys at any given moment.
The author did a fantastic job keeping the mystery of certain characters and certain situations until the end, there were hints here and there of things to come but no certainty of the outcome on any situation. Although this book is part of a series, this book can easily be read as a standalone. The characters are well developed and the reader knows where they stand with each one of them.
The best part about these guys is that they are a family, they stick together and they will sacrifice anything in order to protect the others. They're two guys that left me guessing what the story was and I'm hoping they are next in this series.
This is book eight in “The Company of Snipers” series by Iris Winters. Each book can be read standalone but readers who have read other books in the series will be more familiar with the characters and their backgrounds.
Alex Steward runs an elite security team of former military agents. In each book the team handles a different case that centres on an individual team member; Gabe in this case. When Gabe witnesses the deadly shooting of his boss Alex, the team now leaderless has to pull together to be there for his widow Kelsey. Soon it appears the suspects are also out to harm Kelsey and eventually make an attempt on her life. Afterwards Gabe and his teammate Zack are assigned to protect her and Nurse Shelby, who is hired to look after Kelsey. Meanwhile the rest of the team works hard to find the perpetrators so they can put a halt to their dire plans.
The book is a mixture of action, adventure and mystery with some romance. The plot was very suspenseful with lots of twists and turns. The story-line also involved a bit of a love story however in this instance it did not add value, if anything it was distracting and made some of the characters’ actions a bit unrealistic. The plot without the romance is very strong and credible and there is a lot going on so the romantic diversion in unnecessary. However fans of action romance might appreciate it.
Overall this is good story with plenty of adventure and suspense.
Talk about an action packed thrill ride that keeps you going until the very end!!!! This book automatically sucks you in from the very beginning and keeps you guessing. You really have no clue who is alive, dead, good guys and bad guys. You can try and figure it out but I guarantee it will drive you crazy! So if you've read the blurb, you know that Alex is dead and they have to cover Kelsey. Well its so much more than that. There's car bombs, guys in black cars and suvs chasing them and running them off the road. There's so many clues that don't add up and before you know it, there's a threat of blowing up the city. I will admit I've only read book 1 and of course this one. I'm not normally one that's comfortable with military romance but this is one series I would definitely read over and over again. They are one big crazy family but they know exactly how to take care of business and take the bad guy out while getting the girl. It's no difference with Gabe. He's taking care of Kelsey while dealing with her stubborn take charge nurse. No worries Shelley soon finds out how dreamy Gabe is and how so wrong her mom was about Military guys are...
This story was really good and detailed but sometimes it was too much. The romance part of the story took a while to develop but it was good when it started. The story line as a whole was great. The drama, suspense and murder is always a nice element to put in a romance book. Especially when you are talking about ex military. I would definitely read the other book's in this series.
Right out of today's headlines! A terror group threatening Washington D.C. Nail-biting suspense with lots of twists and turns. Who are the good guys and who are the bad? Is Alex dead or alive? Just when you think you have it figured out there is another twist in the plot. The romance between Shelby and Gabe is sweet and gradually builds as the story moves along-not lust at first sight. This is a definite must read series.
I liked this! I was in the mood for a romantic novel, and this more than met my needs. Irish Winters was able to successfully pull me into a cast of characters who are well established, without making me feel like I had missed out on important details about them. The story moved quickly and although it was clear that the hero would save the day and get the girl, there were a few surprises too.
This book has to be one of the best books thAt I hAve read for quite a few months this. Well written, great plot and story line. All the characters were great together. Top Notch chemistry between Gabe and Shelby. The mystery and suspense us as well done, right through to the end.
This was the first book by author Irish Winters I read. I fell in love with Gabe and the whole TEAM. I found the story line predictable (yes, that Alex was alive and Sam was a good guy); some of action sequences were too quickly glossed over while other scenes not explored enough. Even so, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it.
The first chapter had me sobbing. What a brilliant book. Just brilliant This series has been wonderfully written. It has complex and twisted themes and fantastic characters. I thoroughly recommend that you read this series Looking forward to th he next book
While I ultimately enjoyed the plot and romance of this story I found I had to push myself to continue on for the first third of the book. Once the plot began to unfold more clearly I was hooked.
Intriguing storylines and strong characters. Danger around every corner and a plot with several twists. Government and private security teams seem to go against eachother. Love and romance added for good measure.
