I loved this book, not because it really offered anything new, but because it did a great job of pulling together all sorts of tips and tricks and hacks and presenting them in a way that was both logical and imbued with compassion.
The only thing my brain couldn’t quite get used to: that it was written by a teenager and so included these statements about feeling behind of reaching goals and dreams, “back when I was in middle school.”
Y’all’s. I don’t think any sentence has ever made me feel older, because all I could think was that kids these days are crazy.
This is a fantastic guide to creating a plan to help you navigate all of the things that need to be done in life. The language is clear and simple, the author doesn’t go into long-winded explanations of anything. I really enjoyed the section about setting goals, but they were all really useful!
It was a perfect read just before the new year, and I’m excited to set my goals and start moving toward a more productive life!
This was a refreshing change to all the other books on the topic I read mostly because it didn't focus on later life and career but had really hands on advice for students and young adults. Granted I am not the target audience but I really enjoyed how it was written, the inclusion of apps and comparing digital and paper tools. The apps might make it outdated soon, but the suggestions for building systems will not. This book also came with a lot of different examples and the reminder to adapt to ones own needs. I always like when options for bad days are included. So highly recommend this for younger people and everyone who is into the topic and needs a new motivational kick to get back into things.
I try to start the year with organization or goal-setting books. This one is written by a blogger. It feels like several blog posts pasted together. Nothing new for me. She did have some beautiful pictures.
I'm not sure why I as a 40-something felt compelled to read a book on productivity by a Gen Z influencer/YouTuber that's probably more geared towards that generation... but I feel I still have a lot to learn/catch up on about planning and organizing my life. I wish I would have read something like this and worked more on these skills when I was in high school or college, but a lot of the resources in this book (like specific apps) didn't exist! Anyways, I do feel like I learned some tricks from this e-book I accessed from my library's Hoopla, and I've also enjoyed watching some of the author's YouTube videos.
Not helpful to me at all. More for someone without kids or much of a job at all. Seems like “organizing” for the newer generations thinking they can make it big by blogging and have accountability buddy daily check ins. No practical knowledge to gain or anything of usefulness. They did manage to slip in their bit on systemic racism in a book that should have nothing to do with that topic. Kept dragging through it in hopes of it getting better but it did not
I've followed The Bliss Bean blog for a while, and was really excited when Naujalyte announced the release of this book. I quickly preordered it (and then somehow waited until January to start actually reading it, lol--distracted by all the shiny things releasing around the same time).
Since I've followed her blog for a while, I can't say I (personally) got a ton of "new" info here. She does do a great job at collating techniques, apps, and more into a cohesive read and jumping-off point--so it's great for folks who are newer to these things, unsure where to start, or looking for a change. Also, I think a younger (college-age or young-professionals) demographic than myself will find it more beneficial.
Still, I'm glad I read, and I'm super proud of the book she produced. It's helpful, colorful, full of photos/clip art, and frankly one of the better literally/physically produced books that I've seen in a while. Well done.
4.5* Overall this book was enjoyable and educational. I really liked the aesthetic of the book. I would say for students and/or people with few organizational skills this book would be really effective and a great starting place. Beatrice really does cover a lot of material and gives advice from others as well as herself. I also appreciated that she acknowledged that not everyone has the power to manage their schedule and routines as exactly as some other people may be able to She also addressed other obstacles to planning and organization such as learning disabilities. I have read my fair share of books like this as well as watched YouTube videos and listened to podcasts (including Beatrice’s), and I still got new information from the book. I would definitely recommend!!
The book is okay if you are new the minimalist movement or want to learn the basics of planning and organizing. If you are someone who has consumed minimalist, planning, and organizing content for a while this book is just a rehash of what other influencers have said over the years. And honestly, those books are much more informational.. An in depth review can be found here: https://www.thelifeofac.com/blog/book...
As a watcher of The Bliss Bean (the author’s YouTube channel) much of the information included I had already knew about. However it was refreshing to read a book by someone near the same age as me and with similar interests. Being able to relate my life to hers and see was to improve myself was beneficial. I loved the blips included from her readers to show how one planning or organizational system isn’t for everyone.
4.5 stars as an avid watcher of The Bliss Bean, I was bound to read this sometime soon and I absolutely loved it. The tips given were ACTUALLY helpful and the book is broken down into chunks to make it easier to look back at the contents page to find exactly what you're looking for. The writing was easy to understand and doesn't make you feel stupid for turning to this book for support.
Interesting that it was written by someone so young. Would be for great for someone in college or heading there, as it references many people at that age.
I’m a bit biased giving 5 stars - I think I normally would rate it with 4 because there was not much new for me, just old known wisdom again put together. BUT. 5 stars, because something in me changed while listening to the book. Maybe it was because the book was from the heart, really wanting to help people become more productive. And I did. I realized I must focus more on urgent/important things, that I have been too busy being busy while not always aiming for highest priorities. Also it made me re-think of bigger goals for the vision board. So see this book as a motivational book, helping You along. Nothing new, but a short and nice book to speed up Your current progress.
Huge fan of this book - I find myself referring back to it more frequently than I’d like to admit! The sections are clearly laid out; tidbits that I need refreshing on are so easy to find; and the colors, pictures, and little charts are so helpful at keeping my attention. The book’s not extremely in-depth, which is totally fine, but is a great starting point for figuring out what needs to get changed up to make my life easier with a reasonable amount of ideas on where I can go from there!
Great overview on planning/organizing techniques. It's great for beginners so if you are new to these things this is perfect! Loved the examples in the book by others
I started listening to this book on Audible and quickly became frustrated because it needed an editor. The writing was all over the place and needed tightening up. It sounded like so many podcasts - rambling and long-winded. However, the digital apps mentioned intrigued me, so I went online to learn more about the author. I learned that she is a college student, which explained so much. She's also a YouTuber.
This is probably a good starter book for Gen Z teens and early 20-somethings on planning, productivity, time management, etc. The authors I've enjoyed (Marie Kondo, James Clear, BJ Fogg, etc.) probably wouldn't hold the attention of typical young people. (I remember when I tried to read Steven Covey when I was in my 20s - a snoozefest.) She seems to come from a financially privileged life, so I can see that making her less relatable to many even if they are the same age.
This is geared toward young people who are in school and who don't have debt (mortgage, car loan, student loans, credit card, etc.) caregiving responsibilities (parents, children, etc.), health issues, decades of adulthood, and all the stuff (paperwork related to taxes, medical, insurance; family heirlooms, etc.).
I advise reading this rather than listening to it. I'm unable to select the audiobook version that's on Audible.
While I didn't find this helpful, those who are Gen Z and in high school and college may find this book helpful.
I do think it needs targeted marketing. Most adults beyond college probably won't find this very helpful.
I want to cry all of the happy tears because every time I say that Beatrice from The Bliss Bean has changed my life I mean it.
I discovered her channel at the beginning of 2021 and since then my life has changed so much for the better. I have gone from being chaotic organised to actually organised. I have health routines and habits that have pulled me out of some really difficult times and helped me make some of my biggest dreams a reality.
If you adore reading books about organisation and planning with actual helpful tips and simple explanations then I would highly recommend this one. (side note: you should check out The Bliss Bean too if you want all of the extra content!)
A good book with ready-to-use strategies to organise different aspects of life. To manage goals and tasks. To declutter life from the noise. To be productive in the digital world, organise files and notes. The book is particularly helpful for students, as it captures the season of life the author was in.
The only thing I found frustrating personally is when it comes to recommended tools. Instead of saying “I use this or that..., and this works best for me because…”, the author lists a few tools available on the market which would be suitable.
The book is okay if you are new the minimalist movement or want to learn the basics of planning and organizing. If you are someone who has consumed minimalist, planning, and organizing content for a while this book is just a rehash of what other influencers have said over the years. And honestly, those books are much more informational. An in depth review can be found here: https://www.thelifeofac.com/blog/book...
As someone who has been subscribed to The Bliss Bean for a few years now, I absolutely loved this book! This book practically sums up everything that Bea has talked about on her channel, along with new topics as well! This book is definitely THE ULTIMATE life guide and cannot wait to re-read this for many years to come!
Some new stuff mixed in with a lot of tired information. I did enjoy that the writer had the readers of her blog contribute their input. It made for better examples and more varied ideas.
