Disaster Inc (McGarry Book One)
All Bunny McGarry wants is a spot of breakfast and a decent cup of tea. So imagine how annoyed he gets when two masked men attempt to rob the New York diner he is in? Unfortunately, dealing with that problem just leads to a whole lot more. One of the other customers isn’t who she appears to be, and without his help, the odds aren’t great that she will live to see another breakfast.
I Have Sinned (McGarry Book Two)
Bunny’s only lead in finding the woman he loves is a priest who has no intention of helping him. However, when it emerges that the padre has a dark past and people who want to make sure he has no future, the two men decide that they might just need the other’s help if they are to protect what they each hold most dear.
The Quiet Man (McGarry Book Three)
Getting into prison is easy, it’s getting out that’s tricky.
Almost everyone in prison will tell you they’re in there for a crime they didn’t commit, but Anthony Rourke really means it. That’s because he’s actually Bunny McGarry, who has got himself into one of Nevada’s finest penitentiaries under false pretences. He is there to bust someone else out. In order to do so he has to deal with corrupt prison officials, a UFO cult and someone from his own past who has a score to settle.
Good Deeds and Bad Intentions (Novella)
It's the night before Christmas and Bunny McGarry is hard at work. Helena Martinez is trying to make a new life but her scumbag ex-husband has other ideas. When she is approached by a mysterious woman with an offer of help, she has to choose between running again or trusting a ragtag bunch of strangers to deal with her problem once and for all.

Irishman Caimh McDonnell is a former professional stand-up comedian and TV writer who now concentrates all of his energies on his books. Born in Limerick and raised in Dublin, he has taken the hop across the water and calls Manchester his home.
His TV writing work has seen him work on some of the biggest topical comedy shows on British TV and has earned him a BAFTA nomination. These days he can be found happily writing his next book in the office in the back garden, with only his dog and his imagination for company.
His book 'I Have Sinned' was shortlisted for the Kindle Storyteller Award 2019. Previously, his debut novel 'A Man With One of Those Faces' was nominated for best novel at the 2017 CAP awards.
I have been a fan of this author for several years, ever since I was asked to review an advance copy of his very first novel, A Man With One Of Those Faces. I have been hooked like a kid on ice cream ever since! His Irish background, comedic wit and storytelling skills come together for the most entertaining reads ever. I have devoured each of his novels and have not been disappointed in the least. In fact, each is better than the last, and that is saying something since the very first one was love-at-first-read!
The McGarry Stateside series sees our beloved oafish, grumpy ,drunk ex-copper following-up leads in the US of A and encountering as much resistance as cooperation as one would expect from this colourful character.
There was a bit of a glitch in The Quiet Man when the last 20 chapters seemed to have quietly disappeared from the e-book, but all has been restored and the chapters are back where they belong.
If you're looking for intrigue and comedy and the occasional tug at the heartstrings, this series is written for you.
Another worthy addition to the Bunnyverse, consisting of 3 novels and a short story about Bunny McGarry's continuing adventures, this time in the U.S. All of these pieces are connected to Bunny somehow finding and rescuing Simone, which involves, first of all, his locating the Sisters of the Saint, and then working with the Sisters and a whole new cast of characters to rescue Sisters Bernadette and Assumpta, who have been kidnapped. It's all a bit convoluted, and, while I'm not sure Bunny and Simone will ever be reunited, it's a heck of a fun journey getting there! And each of these stories has a satisfying story arc and resolution, as well as some progression toward the overall arc.
I had already read the short story ("Good Deeds, Bad Intentions") in a separate collection. I loved it then as it was reuniting Bunny and the Sisters of the Saint, but it was better-placed here (after the first novel, "Disaster, Inc.", which established Bunny with a new set of compatriots--Cheryl, Smithy, and Diller). I had read it as a stand-alone and those characters had showed up--but I had not yet been introduced to them. Great story, though. Short and sweet, but with that biting edge of comedy of which McDonnell is a master, and even better once I'd read "Disaster, Inc."
"Disaster, Inc." brings Bunny back right in the middle of some crazy action. It's a fabulous expansion on the Bunnyverse and really fleshes out the new characters, plus I loved the whole conceit of Bunny trying to reconstruct his lost weekend of drunkenness to solve the mystery! He's on a quest to find the Sisters of the Saint, but gets mixed up in some unrelated insider-trading shenanigans. And there's a dominatrix. Oh, and a dwarf. And some extremely creative uses of a flashmob in Central Park. Lots and lots of zany action that does not disappoint!
The second novel, "I Have Sinned," is also strong, but of all the pieces in this book, was my least favorite. It felt sort of like a transitional piece. I do, however, think it really showcases McDonnell's strength in humanizing even his most peripheral characters. As part of Bunny's quest to find the Sisters, we are brought into the story of an inner-city drug neighborhood with three kids and a priest with a mysterious past.
The third novel, "The Quiet Man" pulls out all the stops. From the very start, when we are suddenly in the Nevada desert, it's a nonstop circus. At first, I was afraid we weren't going to see any more of Smithy and Diller, but then they showed up in this crazy heist story involving Bunny and the Sisters teaming up to bust someone out of a maximum security prison. There was a Clown Casino, UFOs, a con involving a UFO-based-religion, sadistic prison guards. Oh, and snakes. Lots and lots of poisonous snakes.
I love them all! Keep them coming, Caimh McDonnell! Sister Bernadette and Sister Assumpta (and maybe Simone) await!
I hesitated in starting this set of Bunny’s adventures after a couple reviews pood it. Saying this storyline degrades him and that his chasing Simone was old hat. Well.. for me, that just does not ring true to the tales told here. Yes, he is looking for her for whatever reasons he holds dear, but the story line moves along with an interesting and in depth variety of characters that all seem to stitch things up nicely. I am not a big fan of “to be continued” to the umpteenth degree like this, but I do so enjoy reading Caimh’s tales. I sometimes wonder if it’s just me or if other fans find themself using terms like, “well fair play to you” or “that gobshite” in their everyday vernacular now?
The Stateside gang is every bit as entertaining as the Emerald Isle group! Every character herein is a character indeed. The situations are straight from the mind of a genius, albeit one with no apparent boundaries regarding reality. Write Caimh write! I'm almost out of titles to choose from! Now on to the next.
This whole series is funny, outlandish, very exciting ( I’ve read each book in one sitting)I don’t usually like chase scenes( boring) and violence but this is so quirky and fun that I’ve read every word. And spoiler alert, none of the likable characters gets really hurt. And the characters are likable ! This book is especially fun with the “nuns”
The author's sense of humor makes these stories absolutely wonderful! I have become so invested in this series I am already missing the characters. I hope to see more stories about each of the side characters and more adventures!
Strap yourself in for a well written rollercoaster ride once again. Twists and turns with a host of characters you would want (mostly) to hang out with. Such a pleasure to tuck into these books. And this o e got me through a hurricane;)
I had read these books before individually as they came out. It was really good to revisit all the books together. A tremendous fun read with lots of fun plots and Irish humour. Really well paced and a fantastic read for a holiday.
I have been an avid reader for 65 plus years. This is the BEST detective series I have ever read! The characters, the plot twist and the humor are outstanding!
