Conner, a soldier in the Army of the Seven Kingdoms, solves a tricky matter and earns a promotion. He’s sent beyond the Seven Kingdoms to the frontier to deal with miners, outlaws, and the lizard men. This collection contains several stories of Conner’s deeds on a frontier of magic and mystery.
Captain Conner on the Magical Frontier is a collection of eight short stories chronicling the adventures of a soldier in the Army of the Seven Kingdoms. The main character solves a mystery and does it so well, he is promoted and sent out into the wild frontier to help outpost commanders solve other crimes and mysteries in their jurisdictions.
Conner is a clever man who knows how to read people. He also seems to be somewhat of a diplomat. As he moves through the stories, he contacts the Lizard Men; everyone seems to fear this ancient race who have wisdom and magic. He develops a rapport with the Lizard Men, and they help him on several occasions. Connor begins to gain notoriety as he moves through this world where there are bad people hurting good people.
This is an entertaining and relaxing collection that can be read easily in one sitting. What I enjoyed most is how the author created a setting in the tradition of the old west with Conner acting as a kind of latter-day Sherlock Holmes.
