The follow-up to "Pistolwhip," and it's more of the same (in a good way). This time, the mystery is a little more mysterious in that the ultimate identity of the killer is something of a twist. In any case, the atmosphere provided by the pencils continues to be brooding but never overly-bleak, and the story is able to show the reader a world of crime and murder without getting bogged down by trying to have the hero out-villain the villain.

The comic book character Jack Peril fights the yellow menace, until eventually the yellow menace is destroyed and they can go out for Chinese take-away... And the Japanese fella who wrote this addition of the comic feels quite chuffed about his work... Comic book villain copycat then plays into the hands of amateur detective, Pistolwhip, and things blow up...

Graphic novels are probably my favourite genre of fiction and this one didn’t disappoint. So much work and detail. Love it.

Look, anything that gives me a smile has me. And I had a headache when I read this, so I think writer Jason Hall and illustrator Matt Kindt did extremely well.

Could’ve had more jokes and funny expressions, is my only quibble. But I’d read another if there’s a series. Always interesting to have stories within stories and a bit of political backchat.

Jason Hall and Matt Kindt return to their pulp action/private eye world of Pistolwhip for another mystery, and prove that they are so good, they can even top their previous brilliant effort. With a narrative structure and plot more ambitious than the first outing, the reader is pulled into the mystery from the very first page. I loved the extra details as well, including the authentic recreations of the fictional "Jack Peril" pulp radio drama as golden age comic books, pulp novels, and more. The first book, "Pistolwhip," is also highly recommended.

Pretty decent story with some pretty decent illustration from Matt Kindt. Kindt chose to render this in an even more relaxed style than normal and yet the compositions were more dynamic and flowing than is usual for him as well.
