Six-Pack #1

Alpha Gray

Rate this book
I keep the six-pack alliance’s territory safe by training and running the security squad, and every summer, we take on new recruits. It's my job to whip them into shape, but one particular recruit this year is trouble from the moment she walks in.
I shouldn’t be drawn to Fallon like I am. She’s defiant, headstrong, and openly challenges my authority at every turn. The more I try to fight it, the more we collide, but if she wants to earn her place with the squad, she’ll need to submit.
By summer’s end, she’ll learn to obey her Alpha.

~

Alpha Gray is book one in the Six-Pack Series, a collection of interconnected paranormal (wolf shifter) romance novels. While this book ends with a HEA for the main characters and no major cliffhangers, there are some overarching storylines that may not be resolved at the conclusion of this book because they run throughout the entirety of the series. As such, the books of this series are best read in order. These books contain mature content (steamy scenes!) and themes that may not be suitable for younger readers. If frequent use of profanity and f-words offend, then these books may not be for you.

very confused by the high ratings

It’s not that this book was bad, but it wasn’t 5 stars. Not even near that. I’m honestly so confused by the high ratings. The book was okay, at best. The world building was very weak. Scratch that, it was extremely weak. The characters are 2-dimensional and felt flat the entire book, all the way to the end. The plot was nonexistent. This book is 500 pages of “training exercises,” and they weren’t very interesting or captivating. Nothing happens in this book. There’s literally no plot. The descriptions fell flat, or they just weren’t there. It’s a book about wolf shifters, yet in over 500+ pages, I’d estimate less than 5% was spent shifting into their wolf forms. The security of all 6 packs is in the hands of five 23~ year olds, and the “soldiers” are mostly 18-19. It’s a huge stretch, and there just isn’t enough meat to prop up and support any of this.

I honestly can’t believe I paid for this book. It was not worth the price, and the high ratings are extremely misleading. Sadly, I won’t read the next book. It just isn’t worth the price.

the one good thing i could say about this book is that it kept me entertained.

now let’s get into the bad;

pick me ass energy from the heroine
the repetitiveness of phrases
just choppy writing
these two knew virtually nothing about each other but they were convinced they had feelings.

if i never read:

- responsive
- fuck me eyes
- “through her eyelashes”

it’ll be too soon

This book made me so happy cause it‘s exactly one of these werewolf romances I typically like. With good characters and a lot of wolf action. This book kinda had the vibe of divergent cause the recruits get ranked each week and train to remain at the so called squad. It was funny and entertaining to read and I liked the plot. Still it was a little bit boring because either than the training there was no „real“ plot.
Fallon and Gray are a perfect match. Both are skilled fighter with a sassy mouth. Their chemistry was sizzling and I grinned a lot during their dialogue.
Overall this was an enjoyable shifter romance and I‘m looking forward to start the next book.

Apparently you either love or hate this book, but I’m happily sitting somewhere in the middle.

Loved that it was an easy read with very little world building, which felt well earned after inhaling The Empyrean series (again), but I would have loved a little more of a plot/story line.

I have never read werewolf romance and can say with 100 percent certainty that this book has got me interested in a new genre.

I would also absolutely watch this if it were a movie/TV series.

Bad points:

- repetitive phrases/language. Not sure how many times one writer needs to use the word incredulous. I can also live my whole life without reading ‘responsive’ and ‘fuck me eyes’ again.

- Fallon’s character was a little annoying at times but, still, she wasn’t the worst female lead I’ve ever read.

Now excuse me while I go and catch up with Alpha Theo.

I really enjoyed this book. I know there are a lot of mixed reviews regarding weather this book is a low rating of a high rating. So I’ll try and give an honest review.

Was it a 5* book? No absolutely not, however it doesn’t deserve anything less than 3 stars.

Yes some of this book felt repetitive, there were a lot of things repeated over and over again but I think this was done to show the development of how Gray changed over the course of the book. A lot of the actions were repetitive and some people didn’t like this, yes there are other ways to describe “fuck me eyes” but honestly who cares.

Knowing this is a HEA we already knew Gray and Fallon were going to be mates, and yea some of it felt like it was pulled out longer than it needed to be. There was a lot of repetitiveness however we saw a lot of character development when we had meet ups with Gray and Fallon so I’m not that max about the repetitiveness.

It was good to see the other Alpha’s and get a bit of background on them, that way the story wasn’t purely focused around the two MC’s.

Some people didn’t like how there wasn’t much shifting when this was a shifter series book however I felt there was quite a lot of shifting. They shift for the full moon run, the training, boarder patrol and when they want to run. Most of this book was really about building up the six-pack training and how it works and why, the main theme throughout this whole series is going to be the shadow packs threat to the six-pack. We will see the last few remaining alphas take over their packs (hopefully) and I believe the next book will be Theo and Brooke’s turn based on the ending of this book. Hopefully we will see more of Gray and Fallon as they grow as mates in the other books.

The sex scenes were very descriptive and good. It will be interesting to see if this continues in the other books or not.

The books was decent, I’m intrigued by the overall theme for the series and will continue reading

This is quite a regular fated mates shifters' story, one that keeps you entertained as you follow the journey of two heroes, who despite their initial hesitations and doubts, actually do find their true match.

I liked Alpha Grey, he is quite aware of his responsibilities and despite his growing attraction towards the FMC he attempts to restrain himself from perusing her as he finds himself in a precarious situation. As much as I enjoyed Grey's character, I found his object of interest, Fallon, a bit immature at times. However, given the fact that this is her first major love interest, her naïveté could be justified.

I am curious to see how would things work out for some of the other alphas, in particular the broody ones. This is a pleasant book, one that does not keep you on edge all the time, but certainly one that lets you follow the development of a genuine relationship.

3.5 "this is reminiscent of Divergent" stars

Fallon is a female wolf shifter who wants to meaningfully contribute to six-pack alliance, an organization of which her own pack and family are members. Only, she's not really interested in quickly finding a mate, one who is hopefully a part of the six-packs, guaranteeing more "interconnection," nor is she as talented as her sister, who is a math/computer wiz and pretty much has her ticket to work with the six-packs' cyber security and networking division.

The one thing that Fallon is good at is fighting; she has a competitive sprit and alpha tendencies. So it is great that she gets the chance to vie for a position with the six-packs' elite enforcement. Fallon is eager to learn from the six alphas and alpha-heirs who oversee the elite enforcement training, in additon to some of them running their own packs, and she just can resist taking risks to show her cunning, bravery and ruthlessness. Fallon doesn't expect Alpha Gray, aka Gray, and her intense attraction to him. Luckily, Gray has the hots for Fallon as well, but unfortunate, given his position, he must either stay away from Fallon, or fuck her into oblivion every chance he gets; to do this, Gray has to remove himself from any decisions or evaluations concerning Fallon, leaving her to his fellow alphas, and still maintain professionalism and non-bias.
Divergent GIFs - Find & Share on GIPHY
In all, I really liked this world. Fallon and Gray sizzled, and the action scenes, when detailed, had me rooting for Fallon to "win" or to outsmart the program. However, Fallon proves to be too reckless or hot-tempered at points, getting her into trouble. This character flaw is warranted but in some ways, I was like, "Fallon, pay attention!"
Scary Movie 3 Brenda Gifs
Both Fallon and Gray had obtuse moments (Fallon had 1-2 more, 😉); and, there is some annoying OW drama, shenanigans of a de-lu-lu girl who is obsessed with Gray and crazy jealous of Fallon [rollz eyez]. Ultimately what made this one lose some smoke for me is dropping the ball at the overall suspense arc, concerning outside enemies of the six-packs. This just lessened how great the plot could have been, IMO. It put a damper on the action as well.

Also, the denial to find-out their possible "mate status," a thing that both Fallon and Gray pussy-foot around, draws out their decision to "be together," making them fuck buddies for too long, with Fallon being the most reluctant, and putting the reader through somewhat repetitive and unnecessary inner-monologues.

Other than that, this was a decent paranormal romance.
Happy Reading.

This is a pretty solid shifter romance. At times, the book bored me a bit, and the cheesy name of the packs (the six pack in the form of abs) had me rolling my eyes. However, I enjoyed the characters and the spice.

Very predictable, immature characters

I'm not sure why this has so many 5 star reviews. You could skim the top of each paragraph and know what's going on. Falcons character is incredibly immature, so the whole "she's so strong and sure" character trait does not resonate. The dialog was pure silly at some points and lacking creativity. This felt very high school romance meets Lifetime movie.

DN-fucking-F!! UGH. I really need to stop listening to Instagram 💔😭 the writing is awful. I hate how the chapters are cut up into paragraphs it disrupts the flow. The writing is really clunky and I can already tell that both the MC and FMC are going to piss me off.

I really loved this audiobook and thought the voice actors did a fantastic job! This is the first book in a series of interconnected standalones in a shifter (but not Omegaverse) world where fated mates are uncommon but hoped for.

Fallon is our FMC and has been training for years to be part of the six-packs security squad. She goes to training and immediately feels a pull towards one of the trains and an Alpha named Gray. The sexual tension is thick between these two and they contemplate giving into their attraction. What happens if they give in and they aren’t fated mates since they can only discover their fated mates during the full moon?

Read this one if you like:

🐺 shifted universe
🐺 grumpy MMC and cocky FMC
🐺 instalust
🐺 a world with fated mates
🐺 found family
🐺 lots of smutty scenes
🐺 jealous MMC
🐺 standalone but with some unanswered questions

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I wish there was more to the storyline, but considering it was Book 1, maybe time was needed to get into it and lay the foundation for the entire series. The storyline got stronger as the series progressed.

Fallon was my favourite character of the entire series. I found her inspiring and relatable. She wasn't overly sweet. I know Astrid was lovely but she was just too kind, perfect and sickly sweet. I liked Fallon's fierceness, sarcasm and her defiant warrior character.

I missed her character as the series progressed. And considering that she was 'Barbie Beast', I didn't actually get to witness her in her element, fighting in the actual wars.

I enjoyed reading about her bond with her twin sister as well. It was a beautiful relationship that set a foundation for some of the kids in the Shadowed Heirs series.

Alpha Gray, was lovely and level-headed with enough of a back story to grasp his vibe. It felt like a good match for Fallon.

Lots of steamy scenes and a definite page turner. I was glued to this book. It just needed 'more' to the plot.

Alpha Gray- feisty heroine

This is my second time readying Alpha Gray, six pack series book one. First time I read it was on GoodNovel and I will admit she’s one of the better writers I have found on there. Alpha Gray is well written with a good plot, awesome chemistry, lots of steam, and drama galore. I found Fallon to be a feisty little firecracker…. I adored her character. Her only real flaw was overthinking the mate bond and believing what others said about Gray, but then again I could completely understand where she was coming from. I found her character to be believable even though it’s a PNR. Gray- Gray was kidding himself from the very beginning. He actually reminds me of another alpha I’ve read about, anyone who gets under your skin THAT MUCH… there’s definitely a reason.

It's a typical alpha werewolf mate story, but I really like the writing style and the plot, even tho predictable, was fun. I also liked that the story didn't focus only on the mate bond and it was not too much sexual focused. There was a good balance. I usually hate those werewolf stories cause females are always fragile and submissive. That's not the case with this book. I love how the female character was strong and sassy.
After my last books (2 very boring books), I needed something light, refreshing and funny. This book did accomplished that.Totally recommend this for whoever is starting in the NA shifters style.

This was bad. But, like super bad. It read like a teenager who’s never had sex, and who’s only sexual experience is a crappy homemade porno she found stuffed behind a toilet is a truck stop bathroom.

The ‘spice’ in this book is the equivalent of serving someone a plate of food and telling them to be careful because it’s really hot, but the only seasoning you’ve put on it is a pinch of black pepper.

There’s 5 books, and if you remove the terrible sex scenes, the wildly unrealistic description of bars and dancing, the ‘long toned legs’ mini skirts, ‘curves in all the right places’ the actual plot would barely get you a newspaper article.

I gotta say, the beginning of this book was not great. The way it described people, places, situations, etc., left me wondering if I was reading a YA book disguised as Urban/Paranormal Fantasy. or was I reading the very first book from this author? The level of childish details and huge problems that to most adults would amount to complaints was high, and so I was ready to DFN it, but I'm glad I didn't.

With that said, here are some things I did not like:

-Repetitiveness, but luckily not to the point of it being super annoying.
-Characters had no depth. Fallon thought she was a screw up and that the only thing she got going for her was making the squad. Well, her character had no development. She made the squad and got a mate, the end. She acted impulsively, was often childish and selfish, and she stayed that way. She also believed random things that some jealous girls would tell her, which just shows her lack of belief in herself and how insecurities ure she was. She would automatically forgive Gray when he would tell her that what was said about him wasn't true. No argument, no push and pull, nothing! But she wasn't boring, at least.
-There was no real drama or consequences for the "bad guys," but I'm guessing is a back story that the author plans to keep going in the rest of the books.

What I liked:

I am glad that I stock with it because even though it is not a master piece, is lighthearted and left me with a "feel good" kind of feeling.

The camaraderie between the characters was good.

Turns out it was exactly what I needed to get out of my book hangover (Nocticadia, which left me thinking about it five days after being done! No regrets, though).

If you want light, fun, surprisingly hot sex, steamy, and light reading with no drama, give this a try.

gotta say, I'm in love with @c.j.primer and her writing style, there wasn't a single moment I struggled to fall into the story, the way she writes had me vividly seeing the book play out in my head and that's hard to do from end to end.

Gray is alpha of his own circle as well as one of the leaders of the security squad meant to protect them, not because he wanted to be but due to tragedy striking him at an early age, his protective instincts as well as his ego is a fun thing to watch come together, his character was easy to love, but I do feel that I would have loved a little more of his day-to-day in that.

Fallon, the over achiever fighting twin that is constantly out to prove herself, but not in a pick me kind of way, in a l want to strive to be like her way.
Overall I do feel she was a bit overly emotional at times, but I found it real and raw because I can't say any of us would react to the things she went through any differently.

Side characters: OMG. CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE THEO and am kinda hopeful for a girl war between Hannah and Fallon. Also, no character that was introduced felt like they didn't matter, you could feel the love/resentment/terror every step of the way.
World building was good, but that's where this lost a star in my opinion, there wasn't enough to keep me focused on the story line itself outside of the love story between Fallon & Gray. I found myself hungry for storyline almost the whole way.

The smutting scenes are lovely though and the smut IS smutting!

Overall phenomenal book, that I will end up reading again in the future just for nostalgia sake. This book was my escape while taking care of my mom, so l just wanna say thank you, @c.j.primer for giving me something to be excited about when my world felt upside down. .

I usually have a pretty specific formula with werewolf
books.
He’s an alpha she’s some poor human that has no idea about shifters and is brought into this world completely clueless. Both about shifters and love in general. And he has some big bad reputation but is just the biggest kindest teddy bear with her. It’s just real cheesy as in their wolf selves have separate names and there’s a lot more weird magic crap going on with the moon goddess.

Apparently I can expand my horizons because this was not that and I loved it. (But then again I always say you could slap a mate bond on anything and I’ll accept it as gospel)
They’re both werewolf shifters, he’s an alpha but also runs this elite protection squad for this 6 pack alliance.
She has dreamed about joining this squad since its inception. She has no plans to meet her mate and neither does he. They fight like cats and dogs but there’s also this undeniable tension between them. (Which is obviously the mate bond like come on people what are we reading?)

They end up having this secret “casual” romance while she’s in these trials to join this squad he’s one of her superiors.
The training sequences DRAGGED. Because it’s not what I’m here for but if you’re into that they were well written if not slightly repetitive.

As they spend more time together he just falls so hard so fast. She’s a bit more on the fence and it was just adorable. As much as the training drags just skim it because the ending was SO WORTH IT. Like I read this in 6.5 hours if that goes to show how much I just ATE THIS UP.

Read this if you want a genuinely well written shifter romance with very minimal plot. The romance mostly was the plot and I was here for it.
