Rate this book
A man crippled by an ancient curse.
A determined faerie.
A sinister plan threatening their future…
Things are good, and Imogen’s life has finally calmed—except the curse that still plagues Brendan. After being bitten by a Skinwalker as a child, Brendan transforms into a powerful and dangerous beast at the slightest provocation.

Determined to find answers, they head to Utah, to where the incident that turned him into a monster occurred. Once there and connected to someone who offers to assist them, Brendan is told he must travel the rest of the way solo, to confront the King of the Skinwalkers and seek release from the curse.

Imogen reluctantly watches her love disappear into the darkness on his quest. Only things are not as they appear, and ulterior motives of others could spell disaster for them.

Taken captive by a greedy biotech firm, Brendan is subjected to invasive torture and testing, but Imogen isn’t about to give up on the love of her life. Accepting help from an unusual ally, Imogen makes a promise she may not be able to fulfill.

With their lives on the line and questioning the motives of everyone around them, Imogen and Brendan must find their way back to each other and forge a path together if they hope to have any future.

Mia Connor is an up-and-coming author who has had a love affair with literature since childhood.

With books to keep her company throughout the years, Mia — now 45 — has masterfully bridged the gap between reality and her imagination through writing.

Having lived a colorful existence, Mia is able to spin suspenseful paranormal women's fiction stories that both excite and captivate. Losing her father at the age of twenty-five and going through a stormy divorce that almost cost her custody of her two daughters, Mia refuses to be bogged down.

Instead, she uses her new appreciation for life to focus on her passion for writing and leverages the pain, joy, and valuable lessons to pen engrossing books rife with highly relatable, strong female leads.

When she’s not writing, Mia spends her time in Florida with her two wonderful daughters and her two equally lovely cats who — if she’s being honest — are key contributors to her work.

Book 2 starts two years after the end of book 1, with Imogen and Brendan having lived a mostly blissful life for those two years, but with Brendan’s problem hanging over them and stopping their life from being perfect. Their lives get more hectic and dramatic when they try to solve the problem, or at least get answers. Some of the chapters are Brendan’s pov and we learn more about him and his background re being bitten. (There are a few gory parts, so be warned if you’re a bit squeamish - I’m obviously not as I felt it was justified!). Their story moves along well, (if eventfully!) with some profound internal monologues and self awareness from Imogen. More players are introduced in this book and I have the feeling they’ll be showing up in future books, which will mean more drama and possibly/probably more trauma ahead. I had a couple of ‘oh dear’ moments, when you know something that happens isn’t a good idea or circumstance, but that adds to the expansion of the storylines, so they were ‘oh dear’ moments in a good way. The more I read in this series, the more I’m becoming increasingly invested in Imogen and Brendan’s journey. I’m sure there are more twists and turns in store though, so I’m looking forward to see what comes next!

Well written character work and story line made this book an entertaining read. I will say that I do wish that I had read the first book in the series prior to reading this one.
