Loyalty can hold us together… or it can blind us completely.
Decades after her “departure” from this world, Althea Noble Bouleau has returned to reclaim the throne of Blackthorn Grove. But she’s not the same witch who left years ago, and her obsession with Emmaline could mean the end of Savannah’s most powerful coven.
As Althea’s motives start to unfold, she vanishes with Emmaline, leaving Katie and Gabriel with a cold trail to find them. But Katie also has problems closer to home to deal with, like the expansion of MagicInk and an employee suddenly showing signs that his recent bout with a vampire was more than just a bad memory.
And then there’s the warlock who just arrived in town.
The clock is ticking, and Katie is running out of time as a blanket of darkness begins to fall over the city.
Luanne Bennett is an author of fantasy and the supernatural. Born in Chicago, she lives in Georgia these days where she writes full time and doesn’t miss a thing about the cubicles and conference rooms of her old life. When she isn’t writing or dreaming up new stories, she’s usually cooking or tending a herd of felines and basset hounds. Look for book three of the Katie Bishop series coming this spring!
Katie’s is back and this is one hell of a read! We get to meet exciting new characters as they are introduced and the author intertwines a new storyline in with our existing one quite seamlessly. Exciting, fast paced and action packed once I picked this up that was it, nothing got done for the rest of the day!! I love this series, love the drama, love the action and I totally love the characters.
I just love the Katie Bishop series but "Dirt Witch" is my least favorite in the installments to date. I hate to say it but this book felt like 'filler' where the plot really doesn't progress much but the author wants to extend the length of the series.
This time Katie is basking in the glow of married life. Then she is summoned by Finn to a meeting of the coven because it seems Althea, the dead of the Blackthorne Coven has returned from the dark and wants to meet with the members. Mama and Sugar are also in attendance and Mama feels something is off. Boy, is she right!
While Althea resumes head of the coven she latches on to Emmaline and soon things go awry. Additionally, Abel is showing signs that he might be changing into a vampire. Amid all of this chaos, Katie is interviewing for new tattoo artist for her recently remodeled studio. One of the applicants she decides on, Kali, has a problem. Her ex-boyfriend is stalking her. The whole town is in a uproar because of some bad juju from Althea and everything is about to hit the fan if Katie and the gang don't find a way to stop her before it is too late.
While it felt good to be back in world of Katie Bishop, this read didn't have the personality of the previous books. It didn't have enough of Sugar's attitude or Mama's strange actions and saying. I did enjoy the new character of Kali and cannot wait to see how she is going to fit into future installments. I guess my biggest problem with this read is it felt cursory. It didn't quite adequately handle the situations with the depth other installments have provided. It would have been better if it was 50 pages or so longer. Also, I didn't like one unresolved issue and it wasn't the cliffhanger ending. No. I will not spoil the plot by revealing any more. At any rate, I hope the next book in this series will be more enjoyable!
I'm enjoying this series. I appreciate stories with empowered women. That said, I had hoped the main procrastinator, Katie Bishop, would have evolved, matured by this point. She seems to overcompensate for her perceived shortcomings by being just plain stubborn and obstinate. A male character continuously digging in their heels to proceed in a less than wise manner would not have lasted as long. I'm also disappointed by how often the main female characters resort to the old clichés: "feminine wiles", speaking or blurting out things before thinking, appearing a little "slower" mentally, materialistic and bravado they can't support by word or deed. I do appreciate what it must have taken to develop the characters, story lines, and relationships, as well as presenting women in less "traditional" roles. Don't take my pet peeves as a reason not to read, enjoy the books, series (I thought society, as a whole, would be further advanced in our treatment of one another) I'm likely from a different era, demographic than I believe the target audience may be. Read, enjoy
Katie and her team of friends are up to their eyeballs in this caper of magic and mayhem when the first witch of Blackburn Grove comes back from the depths of darkness and decides to reign chaos in Savanna, and it’s up to Katie and her friends to save the day. But can she overthrow a very powerful witch who has come back from years of darkness and is sucking the power from the witch’s from Blackburn Grove? And who will survive this time if they don’t succeed. Highly Recommend This Book, it’s an exciting read and fast paced read. The characters are very engaging and interesting, the story is well crafted with great storytelling.
This one wasn’t too bad. A little crazy with how the bad guy was going about things. Katie them picked up on it a little faster, thank goodness. I love the new additions and I’m wondering if they have their own stories yet??
Same old frustrations. No getting straight to the point. Takes a while to get to anything because of all the other stuff popping up and distracting Katie. Jackson is still cool.
I received an ARC but this review is my own. Another great book in the Katie Biship series, I struggled to stop reading until I ran out of book! This book builds on from the last one, it has great character development and the story flows so well it's easy to get lost in it. Katie has a lot of things going on all at once but the story never feels rushed. It's nice to see old characters again as well as some we didn't know so we'll till now. All in all another great boom from Luanne Bennett and can't wait for the next one.
Great characters, fresh and engaging plot without the "same old, same old" formulaic feel so many series get after a while. At the same time, it is a comfortable world to go back to. I continue to truly enjoy Ms. Bennett's writing - really looking forward to the next installment!!
This book was so good, I a read it in 1 day! I don’t know how Katie deals with all the problems that come her way. An evil witch is sucking the life out of all the council members, Emmaline is missing, Abel may be becoming a vampire, and her new hire at MagicInc has a stalker X-boyfriend who is after Jackson. And Gabriel, Jesse, Thor, Mae and Angel may not be able to help much, or at all.
Katie always has something going on i!.glad she got a month to enjoy her marriage before more trouble found Savannah. Abel is having unexpected problems, Although comes bavk.and disappears with Emmaline and Katie has a new employee with baggage.
I really love these books but I’m always sad when I get to the end because it’s like I’m losing a friend for a while but I know I will see them in the future. Thanks for the adventure.
4.5 stars. 7th outing and still going strong. Not sure why some readers didnt like this quite so much, I found it to be one of the better books in a consistently strong series. The Katie Bishop series is one of my best reads of the year.
This series stays as good as the first book. The characters maintain their interesting personalities and powers,, with more added to the mix in each book.
Love all the new characters coming to the book, the stories of their becomings and all the twists. I really love Jackson’s love for Katie their relationship is similar to my own!! Can’t wait to read the next book!!
Luanne Bennett never disappoints. Katie has a new employee and a whole set of new problems, but her friends, old and new, are there to back her up in this thrilling episode of The Katie Bishop series.
Love these adventures, full of dark danger and a colorful cast of characters that band together to defeat the evil in their town. Eagerly awaiting the next adventure!
Another one bites the dust as in literally dead and gone forever. A New member with issues and problems have joined the crew. As always SUGAR IS A DELIGHT
I am loving this series. I appreciate that the story goes on after the main relationship is cemented in marriage. Why so many authors think the story ends there I don't know.
