When Ella is called into a early morning meeting and laid off, her friends spring into action to help her find a new job before rent is due. But when it comes to her ex-boyfriend Chad, they're less supportive.
Ella is positive he's been following her around Los Angeles, but she has no proof.
Natalie Saar is a journalist and writer based in Los Angeles, California. She has been telling stories to anyone who will listen since she was able to talk. After years of consuming true crime content, she developed a love of thrillers. Her stories feature everyday situations — but with an added twist. “Becoming 1% Better” is her first work of nonfiction, born out of a love of general curiosity about how we can better ourselves and treat those around us better.
Leaving you guessing until the very end, this book packs a wallop. You'll wonder throughout what exactly is to be believed. Ella's friends might annoy you, or Ella herself might annoy you. If you're the anxious type, you might feel your anxiety ratcheting up with every chapter. A masterful building of tension, with a surprising ending.
Ella has had a string of bad luck and drama following her. Going into work, and being laid off. To then get a job through a best friend, to end up working at a sex toy company. All the while having her last relationship end and having a restraining order against her ex.
Little did she know she would end up liking someone at her new job and going out on a date for her ex to show up, and eventually end up moving into her apartment building. Ella is living an eventful life for a period of time.
I rated this book 4/5 stars, I felt drawn into the book but it wasn't a "MUST READ" for me. I am interested in reading more of Natalie Saar's work, because I do enjoy her writing style.
I won this from a Goodreads giveaway. I didn't know what to expect, the description was short and I didn't read into it very much before I started the book. By the cover and title I assumed it was book like an attack on a city or trauma. So I picked up the story to read, and it was nothing like that. What it was was a fast paced, comical, anything that can happen will happen to this main character Elle as her world gets flipped upside down. It was the kind of boom that us hard to put down cause you just want to know what comes next.
It's an interesting story. However, I felt the build up took too long and kept you waiting too long then the conclusion was very much rushed.
Because of the name, I kept waiting in anticipation for something that nearly didn't come and it gave me a lot of anxiety. I almost quit this book several times but I just had to see if Ella was actually crazy or not. I'm not sure the anxiety was worth the wait.
I think with a little extra polishing, this would have been a stupendous psychological thriller. Angst is what you want to give your reader, not needless anxiety.
I kept waiting for answers as to why her friends did not support her?? Restraining order? How does he move into in her apartment building? Lots of room for more to this story. I won this Kindle copy in a Goodreads giveaway.
