Mortal-enemies-turned-furniture-breaking-lovers August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba have found a groove that suits them both. They’ve teamed up as hired guns, they live together, and by some miracle, they haven’t killed each other. It’s the closest to normal they’ll ever have, and they love it.
But their guns-and-roses future is thrown into chaos when Ricardo’s past comes crashing into their present. What begins as a favor for an old friend—well, “friend,” but don’t tell August—quickly spirals into something far bigger than they anticipated. Now they’re in way over their heads with powerful people on both sides of the law, and it’s going to take more than snark and explosions to see them through.
Nevertheless, there will be plenty of snark and explosions, because this is August and Ricardo, and no one would expect any less. In between the smoke and sarcasm, though, they are determined to bring an evil operation crashing down… no matter who they have to work with to get the job done.
And no matter who they have to kill.
Sniper vs Spotter is the sequel to the apparently-it-doesn’t-want-to-be-a-standalone Hitman vs Hitman, which absolutely was supposed to be a standalone, but August and Ricardo (predictably) refused to be contained. Our audiobook narrator also shares some of the blame, Michael. So here we are.
Cari Z. is a Colorado girl who loves snow and sunshine. She has a wonderful relationship with her husband, a complex relationship with the characters in her head and a sadomasochistic relationship with her exercise routine. She feels like Halloween should happen every month, which is why you get this picture of her, and hopes that you enjoy reading what she's put out there as much as she enjoyed writing it in the first place.
Well, I was obviously in the wrong when I said I was not going to continue this series, but in my defence, I recently read another book by LA Witt that I really liked, so I decided to try this series again.
This one was a bit better, still ridiculous but at least their relationship dynamic made more sense now, plus it doesn’t hurt that I like Michael Ferraiuolo’s voice, well, I was not a fan of his Ricardo voice because the accent sounded dumb, but it’s hardly his fault, Spanish after all is a difficult language.
The authors said that they weren't initially planned to write a sequel to their Hitman vs Hitman... but well, I was GLAD they did. Because this one was another delightful read. Sure, the initial set-up (and what followed) was totally ballistic but that's what FICTION is all about 😆
I was SO HAPPY that the authors introduced Ricardo's ex-wife and that she wasn't another "evil" wife that usually are written in M/M romance. Nope. Eve made wrong decision of dating Ricardo's ex-spotter but it wasn't her fault. She was okay with Ricardo and August's relationship and she definitely could hold her own. She needed Ricardo's help because Matt was a TOTAL PSYCHO -- not because she was a damsel a distress.
The romantic tender moment between Ricardo and August was A GEM!!! (i.e. ). The action in the end was awesome. I wish that it didn't end with () probably because I like my romance novels to end with firm happily ever after... but it didn't really fit the tone of this novel... so yes, I take that ending 🙂
I love August and I especially love August with Ricardo. They go together like cheese and crackers. They're a deliciously moreish, must-have pairing Ricardo has it bad for August. I loved seeing his inner thoughts about him - I had plenty of awws in my clippings It's also fantastic to have an MC who is in touch with his dramatic and glam side, not all masc alpha. I am so over all these masc MCs in the genre now Sniper vs Spotter - well named - delivers another fun and interesting storyline The dialogue/banter is so witty Also, I bought this for $US0.99, what a bargain I seriously cannot wait for this to be an audiobook so Michael Ferraiuolo narrates again, what a blast Hitman vs Hitman was because of his perfect narration Blog Review-
I'm glad LA Witt decided to have sequel for Ricardo and August. They are such fun couple, grumpy/sunshine pairing is always entertaining. Even the appearance of Ricardo's ex-wife is a pleasant addition and August took it like a champ that he is. He is more interested to compare notes with Eve than to be jealous about her. As for the suspense involving Ricardo's ex-spotter, I find it not as interesting as book 1. At least then, I'm guessing who is the culprit, but here we know Matt is the bad guy and please just kill him already. Anyhow, getting back to reading about August's obnoxious and snobbery about his wealth is part of the charm in his book. I love how he is so unapologetic about being an asshole to everyone else, except Ricardo. And then LA Witt hinting on part 3?! Yes, please. I need more of August in all his vulnerable glory.
These characters are GOLD. So perfectly balanced with each other and such brilliant dialogue that the book is like crack. Michael Ferraiuolo is once again superb and makes this world of hitmen a desirable one that we want to be a part of!
I know this sequel wasn't supposed to happen. I know that. So that means that a sequel to the sequel is practically required at this point, right??? Because I seriously can't get enough of Ricardo and August!
Sniper vs Spotter is the second book of this hilarious series.
Story : 5 stars
Audio: 5 stars . The narrator is Michael Ferraiuolo. In this one, Ricardo's accent is softened, but only a bit.
Instead of fighting, Ricardo and August now break furniture ;). Ricardo's ex-wife asks him for help because she is afraid of her ex, who is basically one of Ricardo's former co-workers. The story becomes more complicated with the appearance of a human trafficking ring.
I laughed a lot with them, Ricardo mumbling in Spanish when football and soccer are mentioned, which increases when he realizes that August is half French.
We have August - a witty, pretty and slightly unhinged billionaire, who has excellent aim and an even more excellent wardrobe. And Ricardo - a tough, buff ex-green beret sniper, who would do absolutely anything to protect the people he loves and did i mention he's FUCKING HOT?
Basically two loose moralled contract killers fall in love, dismantle a human trafficking ring and inadvertently wage war between two organised crime families. Oh and that was just on Monday.
That's the story! Don't ask questions just read the fucking book omg
This is everything I want in a romance action story: MCs who really love each other but drive each other crazy sometimes too, unique and sometimes eccentric characters, interesting plot with great pacing and a great climax, full of danger and peril and injury. A wonderful culmination to a story full of action and excitement.
I love that there was no jealous angst. I’m not spoiling anything because they say this in the beginning, that August isn’t like that.
The women in the book kick ass. I love strong women in M/M that don’t in any way take from our main heroes. There are too many M/M books that don’t have women at all or only as mothers and secretaries. Mothers and Secretaries are wonderful but women have other roles in real life, too. Too many women who should be able to defend themselves, like who’d allegedly been in the military, but can’t even hold a gun right.
This was a great follow up to book one and I can’t wait to read book three.
I liked this better than book one. Still low on the steam but high on the action & mayhem. I enjoyed getting the ex’s perspective. I wish the ending was extended a little more but I hope they go ahead and write at least one more book. Even though it’s a lot closer to it than book one, I want to see August & Ricardo with a full-on HEA.
Sniper vs Spotter passes the tough second book hurdle with flying colors, amid explosions, flying debris , and blood splatter!
Cari Z and Witt continues moves the relationship between hitmen August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba forward, opening the novel with the men living together, adjusting to a different lifestyle and emotional state. It’s that latter that’s really causing the introspection and , glimpses into their pasts.
Which the authors use as the major source for the drama on multiple levels within the storyline with huge success.
Family is key. Or the keys to unlock the history and personalities of August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba. For August, it’s his sister and their shared traumatic experiences. For Ricardo, it’s his ex-wife Eve (an extraordinary woman, real, grounded in her bitterness and love), their complicated relationship, and the person from the past that now connects them.
Eve is someone who’s so well crafted that it’s no wonder the authors couldn’t leave her to just one story (yes, she’s going onto the next book).
Kudos to both authors for not demonizing the ex in a marriage. That’s one of my pet peeves in writing. I acknowledge that there’s unlikable ex problems but too often I read ones where it’s a simplistic, cardboard throwaway approach to a character and story element than a realistic human approach.
Sniper vs Spotter’s plot(s) and character development and relationship growth, which happens between not just the main couple but between other people as well, is just as compelling and interesting to watch unfold as the fast action sequences that accompany it.
The authors says these characters are talking to them? I say they are laughing, shouting, snarking their way through an entire series.
If we’re lucky.
Especially as they keep drawing more fabulously complicated people in around them.
So yes, I’m definitely recommending this series and probably even the ones that follow.
Look for more reviews to come.
The books must be read in the order they were written to understand the events and relationships development.

Okay - Ricardo's ex in the same house as his most recent partner and new love.
I don't know if Eve should've been gagged and slapped, or given an award for thinking they were cute together. She basically took advantage of Ricardo in the divorce when she really didn't need his money, given she had a great paying job, and as far as she knew, he'd only been a specialist soldier working security. If that didn't make her a mercenary beyotch, I don't know what else to say. Moreover, she brought a huge pile of sh** with her when she asked Ricardo for help. What really upset me was how she didn't just take steps to stop the alimony she didn't need, or help pay for the clean up of August's mansion, especially since the reason Matt came after August was because of Eve. The whole op was moving along successfully until Matt no the caught a case of stupidity as well as caught sight of Eve.
Other than those details, Ricardo and August were great. Eve messed up their life in a big way, even though August could afford to repair damages by himself. It was the lack of sincere gratitude and simple courtesy of extending her gratitude and making the offer. I'm think she was selfish and used to using Ricardo (no sympathy for him not being around all the time) on her terms, and making him feel unnecessary to her and her life.
So yes, I absolutely deducted a star for my disgruntled view of Eve. I know she was meant to be seen as the wronged spouse, but it takes two to make or break a marriage like theirs. It wasn't all on Ricardo, aside from the fact he lied about cheating. If she had stopped just for a minute and really thought about his character and personality, she might have used that brain of hers to figure out there had to have been something else. Hence why I think she was selfish, manipulative, used to using her looks to her advantage, and mercenary. The first thing she went for was vindication, which Ricardo provided for with the alimony, something that's basically to her death or his, as long as she never remarries. Four stars.
The good + August asking Ricardo can we keep her? about Ricardo's ex-wife + No jealousy from August about meeting Ricardo's ex + Ricardo and August finding the perfect balance together between Ricardo's seriousness and August's silliness + The meaning behind Ricardo's nickname Hurricane + Ricardo and Eve finding common ground and working towards tentative friendship again + + Their complete trust in each other's skills
The neutral o Some of the sound effects were kind of weird. I can't help but snicker when a loud sound gets described as blang!, it really cracks me up
The bad - Some parts of the plot made no sense () - August made his home into an impenetrable fortress. It was penetrated in like ten seconds flat. Things like just don't fit with what we know about August
I really liked this book and I read it in one sitting. I would definitely recommend it, and I can't wait for the third book!
I was glad to see more of August and Ricardo. Also Elodie since we only saw her for a short time in the first book. Eve was a good addition too although I wasn’t sure how she was going to fit into the mix. She was a lot like August, and Ricky realized he had a type!
There were more sexy times in this book although that definitely wasn’t the main focus. These books heavily featured action and suspense with romance taking the backseat. Although there were cute moments between this couple, and I could see how well they compliment each other. They’ve come a long way from hating each other to now loving each other. I will definitely be continuing this series, but might take a break another short break before the next book.
This one focused on some heavy subject matters, and poor August had a lot of his childhood memories triggered. Trigger warnings for mention of childhood kidnapping, human trafficking, death/murder, violence, controlling, physical damage to eyes, feet, etc. I can’t wait to see what favor will pop up in the future. Probably in the next book would be my guess. 4 out of 5 stars.
I absolutely love this series and there sure as hell better be more! August and Ricardo are two of my favorite characters and I need soooo many more stories about them!
In this second book Ricardo’s past comes back to haunt him and put people he loves in danger. It comes first in the form of his ex-wife needing help and then in the form of his former spotter from when he was a sniper as a Green Beret. Elements of the situation are a trigger for August so there is both an emotional toll and a strong desire for high levels of violence.
The story is exciting. We get more of August’s fantastic sister and there are other secondary characters I believe we’ll be seeing again in future books. Loved the first book and loved this one just as much. This series is a five star pleasure so keep them coming!
Hitmen August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba are enjoying blissful coupledom until Ricardo’s ex-wife, Eve, begs for help with an aggressively vindictive ex-boyfriend, Matt, who turns out to be the psychopathic spotter from Ricardo’s military sniper unit. Going after Matt embroils the boys in a white slavery racket and puts all their lives in danger. Like the first book, this romantic action / thriller had a little spice with plenty of sass and danger as August’s death-trap house is once again in the firing line. August plays the funny man to Ricardo’s straight man and the banter is hilarious as August and Eve gang up on poor Ricardo. Michael Ferraiuolo is at his arch best narrates the audio, I absolutely love him on this type of story. I really think the authors are on a winner here and I’d love to see many more fun adventures.
August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba are back!!! I am very happy there’s a second story for this funny, unlikely & sarcastic couple.
Here Ricardo’s ex comes to see them as she needs help since her ex has decided to stalk her (someone from Ricardo's past that he knows well). Quite quickly, they uncover his involvement in a human trafficking ring, & they simply must try to do something about it.
I loved it when they finally declared their feelings for one another, that was very well done.
I also loved all the little sexual innuendoes sprinkled into almost every conversation they had, this was hilarious.
They are the perfect couple, always annoyed at each other, yet very loving at the same time.
3.9 I guess? I have a personal issue w the main plot is about Ricardo's ex wife. Plus the spotter Matt. I really dont like it. Its a personal issue ok.. i mean i just dont like it but i still love Ricardo and August... but i swear my slump in reading this book... ghad i checked my stats and it took me almost 2 weeks to finish this one. I just persever coz i really want to read the 4th book ... 🤷♀️ but still good. I really like la witts writing but w cari z i love the action in the story
OH WAIT.. OH WAIT...
THIS IS WHERE RICARDO SAID IT FIRST RIGHT?!?!?!?
Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yes! Ok this book is still ok .. that thing made everything worth even if im like a turtle reading this
3.5* Stars - This was definitely better than book one, I really enjoyed the plot this time. Ricardo and August are funny and adorable together, they make a really fun couple. Their banter and chemistry made me swoon and laugh.
A crazy ex spotter, a human trafficking plot line and August being his flamboyant self makes for a fun and enjoyable ride. Of course I’ve gotta give it up to the fantastic narration done by the brilliant Michael Ferraiuolo. I had to force myself to put the audiobook done cause he just brought the characters to life.
This was even better than the first book. I love August and Ricardo. Sexy badarse hit men with hearts of gold. The story line in this one move quickly and was exciting. I adore a story where the bad guy gets what he deserves. The banter was excellent and one of the few times I’ve read an ex partner with good vibes and storyline. Can’t wait for the next book.
Love this series and specifically these two MCs. August cracks me up and Ricardo is a great 'not so straight' man ;) I was totally expecting (and concerned for) within the plot-line but was so pleased that this option did not eventuate! 😅
I loved the contribution of Eve (R's ex-wife) and Elordi (A's sister) within the story. Really looking forward to book 3 (Killer vs Kingpin).
I love the writing duo of Cari Z and L.A. Witt. The story is fast paced and intriguing. The characters are well developed and the dialogue is witty. I look forward to more of August and Ricardo. Would definitely recommend this series and both authors.
