The past is returning. Time to decide which side to stand on this time!
A Lantean queen will be crowned in mere days, and one magical crown jewel is still missing. Tasked with retrieving it, Emery and Loki set out on a risky theft that threaten their freedom if caught. If they succeed, however, having their most recent crime stricken from the record might finally be within reach.
But things are not as they seem in Atlantis, and when an old threat reemerge, Emery must choose which side to stand on. The right side? Or the familiar one?
The answer to that should be obvious, but when even Loki questions her motives, she must prove that she has not fallen back into bad habits… no matter how tempting…
Fighting against the full force of greedy mages and magical gemstones, Emery and Loki have a short window if they are to save the city.
But will it be worth it to stay in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Will anyone believe criminals like them to have a hand in any good deed anyway?
Never mind a clean record. It won’t matter if they don’t make it out alive…
“Rebels and Traitors” is the third installment in the “Atlantis Outcasts” by G.K. Lund, an urban paranormal fantasy/portal series that offers a brand-new version of Atlantian myth. In Lund’s series, Atlantis is very much real and still existing.
Emery Morgan (FMC) returning to the city to atone for her past trespasses by working for the state, even if the public opinion doesn’t show any interest whatsoever on absolving her. Now the past is rapidly closing up on her and she forced her to choose a side and take a stand when someone steal a magical crown jewel just days before the new Queen’s coronation. Emery and Loki will embark in the risky enterprise of steal the jewel back, but should they succeed Emery stands a chance to finally purge her record and be finally free. Of course, in Atlantis nothing is ever as it appears, and Emery will find herself caught between the proverbial hard place and a rock, having to choose between the unknown right side and the well-known one. Because sometimes to do the right thing, you have to choose the wrong path.
G.K. Lund has once more crafted a very interesting plot interweaving elements of mystery, relic hunting, fantasy, and paranormal romance into an intriguing and very well-written story, with captivating characters and, despite its mythological background, highly credible setting. A fast-paced, action packed story, interesting, imaginative, with a unique mix of Atlantis and Norse myths, and brings the reader right into the action along Emery and Loki, looking once more for a jewel while trying to take the right decision.
I really enjoy these books. This is the last in the trilogy can by read as a standalone but reading the previous two would greatly help with the context. Merry and Loki still trying to keep out of prison are looking for the finalising jewel for the coronation. In mere days. A bank heist, a superb twist that I did not see coming at all and a great ending make this a fitting end to the series. Great characters, well written with a mix of legends and folklore. I will love to read more about these characters.
