Zodiac Wolves #2

Star Cursed

Rate this book
My fated mate rejected me, and now he wants me back. I'd rather die.

I'm being held captive by my worst enemies, the Leo pack. My fated mate is their new alpha, and he says he has big plans for me. For us.

But no matter how much the mate bond tries to convince me he's the one, there's another man I can't stop thinking about: the alpha of the lost pack. My new pack.

Kaden thinks I went willingly with my mate and turned my back on him. I don't know if he's coming for me, but I'm not giving up 'til I find my way back to him—and to my new family.

I'm an Ophiuchus. I'm Moon Touched. And my enemies have underestimated me for far too long.

Star Cursed is the second book in a scorching hot wolf shifter trilogy, perfect for fans of Jaymin Eve, Laura Thalassa, and Amelia Hutchins.

I apologize in advance if my review doesn't make a lot of sense, since I wanted to review Moon Touched first, but after binge-reading this series in a night I'M HOWLING at the plot twist of this book and can not not say something about Star Cursed 🤣

BEWARE S P O I L E R S !

After Ayla (h) got rejected by her mate Jordan and his pack (Leo Pack) murdered the whole Cancer Pack, she was the only Cancer Pack survivor and got kidnapped by the alpha of the Lost 13th Zodiac Pack (Ophiuchus). Long story short: Ayla got trained by the alpha Kaden (H) and got initiated into the Ophiuchus Pack only to get kidnapped once again by Jordan, because he wants his mate back. And here we are at the start of Star Cursed.

Ayla is back with her mate and the mating is bond is strong, but Ayla and Jordan don't do anything beyond kissing two times, because Ayla is fighting againgst the mating bond, because of Kaden and she hates Jordan. Jordan, at the beginning, played nice, but after getting rejected so many times, he run out of patience and he beat Ayla and was just about to start raping her to complete the mating bond, but then his mother Debra stops the action and says:

"You don't understand," Debra said, her voice urgent. "You cannot mate with her."
"Why not?" Jordan asked.
"She's your sister."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH DEAD 😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣

"How did this happen?" he yelled. "How could I be mated with my own sister?"

God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers 😔🙏

The plot twists in this book were so bad, they were almost good. I didn't know I needed the incest rejected mate trope in my life until I read this series. If anyone knows more books with that trope but where they are endgame, please come forward with your recommendations 😂

The main characters were still fine once they reunited, but I don't care about them that much. Of course me being me, I got attached to a minor side characters who I don't even know is even alive or not by the end of this book, but let me introduce you to my future husband Ethan:

The Libra alpha was young and unmated, probably around the same age as Kaden, and freaking hot too. He was dressed like he was attending a business meeting, with his shirtsleeves rolled back to reveal tattoos running along his muscular arms.

Don't be shy Libra man, you don't have to be alone any longer you can have my wolf babies 😌 Ethan better plays a bigger role in the next books or even better he should get his own book.

Plot- 3.5/5🌟
Spice- 4/5🌶️

✔️Who did this to you
✔️Tending to his wounds
✔️Only one bed
✔️Alpha male - Alpha female
✔️Jealousy

AHHH that was so good. Devoured it yet again.

The drama in this one is chef's kiss 🤌The spice is so amazingly written, it's going to give one all the feels. The only thing that makes me rate it four stars instead of five is the inconsistent pacing. It did slow down a fair bit towards the second half but was quick enough to pick up.

The characters and the chemistry between Ayla and Kaden is just perfect. The two work so well together and the banter is so well done. Jordan is a complex character- basically, you'll like him at times but hate him too. The plot twist shocked me, did not see that coming at all.

The cliffhanger had me crying and I can't wait to read the next one!

I am unwell after that cliffhanger. This series has consumed me and i don’t know what to do until the next book is out. This series has a bad ass female. It has magic, action, pack wars, a sexy alpha male, and SPICE. I’m so invested in what happens next after we finally got some answers in this book.

I have seen some mixed reviews on book 2....but this reader loved it!

Many unanswered questions are resolved. We finally see the ultra dark side of the Sun Witches. Their deceptiveness reaches far deeper than I had expected. There is a exceptional return, I also did not see coming but it was a very welcomed surprise.

The storyline remains strong with unique aspects to each Zodiac clan. This part alone truly separates it from other shifter series. Ayla and Kaden truly find and commit to each other. Such a beautifully written love story.

We end on a cliff hanger and as with most cliff hangers I am dying on the inside and have to wait far too long for any answers!

Happy reading,
DD 💕

Had you asked me if I hated cliffhangers this much before I started this series my answer would've been no. I would have elaborated by saying that I used to hate them but that it was something that I had put behind me and had since gotten to understand the need for certain cliffhangers in certain books. I don't know what it is about the way this story is being told/written but these cliffhangers make me irrationally angry. They stop in the worse moments possible and leave the characters in such anguish simply because the author *can*.

I've said it in the review of the first book and I'll repeat it here. This story is good. It's very well-written and well-paced. The characters are complex and interesting. The big bad(s) are big and they are BAD. Had I gotten to this series when all the books were already published I would probably be having a different reaction right now. Can you tell my frustration is turning into annoyance yet?

I guess I just want the heroine and hero to get a break. Maybe not having all these are they still alive or actually dead cliffhangers would help with what I'm feeling? All I know is that I'll be making a note to not pick up books by this author until after the series is complete because I don't want to feel this way after finishing a book if I can help it.

Excuse me? She is mated to her BROTHER????
My god this automatically makes me want to DNF, it's sick, but I want to finish reading it just cause I enjoyed the first book so much. Wow though, one of the most disappointing reads of 2021, I was so excited for this.

Oh look, another one sitting read from Elizabeth Briggs! I swear, it’s like she’s determined to give me gray hairs at a young age. This book picked up right where Moon Touched left off and honestly never stopped. I was stressed from the first page to the last, and honestly, with that ending? I’m still stressed. I’ll be stressed until January when the next book comes out.

I absolutely adore the way that the zodiac signs impact each pack’s power, and the pack dynamics in this series are so interesting to me. There were definitely twists in this that I did NOT see coming, and I gasped on more than one occasion.

The tension between Ayla and Kaden is still freaking fire and I swear their chemistry sizzles. I can’t wait to get more of their story and I’m dying for their HEA. Let’s face it, they’ve certainly earned one.

This took me five days to read, mostly because life got in the way of reading, but also because this book just isn't that good lol. As a lover of PNR I've read way better shifter books, but this is entertaining enough to keep reading for now.

That twist 😂 lol. I knew there was an unexpected twist going in so I was coming up with so many outlandish theories, but omg never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted that. That was hilarious. Luckily this twist happens pretty early on so I wasn't left in the dark too long.

Other than that eh I'm kinda bored with these characters, everything is very predictable and the world building is pretty weak, but maybe I'll read book three when it comes out 🤷🏼‍♀️

"No one will ever treat you that way again, not as long as you're in my pack, do you understand? If anyone tries, I will rip them to shreds with my bare hands. I swear it."

5 stars!

I put off continuing this series because I just knew that I would get hooked and not want to stop reading, and I'm glad I waited until the series was complete. This book picks up right where book 1 left off--Ayla has once again been kidnapped and imprisoned. Her former mate hopes to persuade Ayla to mate with him willingly in order to rule the Zodiac Wolves as king and queen, but he is ultimately prepared to accomplish this however necessary.

We learn so many new truths in this book as Ayla struggles against her mate bond to Jordan while holding onto her real feelings for her new alpha, Kaden. The chemistry between Kaden and Ayla was so freaking hot, and I just loved seeing Kaden finally give into their bond. The secondary characters were just as entertaining and necessary to the story as Ayla and Kaden, and I cannot wait to see where this story goes next!♡

Tropes: rejected mates, outcast heroine, heroine-on-the-run, broody hero, alpha j/p hero, forbidden love, hate-to-love-you, fated mates, 'who did this to you' vibes, hidden powers, found family, mating frenzy, pack politics, STEAMY🔥

My Kaden, the mysterious, broody and irresistible alpha of the lost pack...

It had it's moments, but the 'twist' imo was unnecessary and as gross as the author described. I think I might've enjoyed it more if it was a dual perspective story. It gets tiring to be in only one characters head all the time. Also the kidnapping plot was way overdone.

After binge reading the first book and it ending on a cliffhanger I had to pick up the sequel. Although the first wasn’t by any means beautiful prose, I read the majority of it.

Not this one.

I flipped through most of the pages, bored from the repetitive nature, clumsy writing, and honestly weak characters. Is there sex? Yeah. Good sex? Uh no.

This ends on yet another cliffhanger and I’m not interested in continuing the series.

1.5 stars rounded up to 2 because I’ve read 2 books in the series.

I enjoyed this sequel, but I wish it hadn't been more or less a copy and paste of the story line of book 1 with minor changes. Also did not love that our MCs are separated for the first 25% of the book. Still looking forward to reading the third and final book when it releases though!

The ending was painful to read, and I really disliked the weird sibling plot twist... Unfortunately, I don't think I have the concentration or interest to read on.

Same as with the first book, things seemed a little too predictable and it made parts boring. The beginning was also a little too drawn out for me where it was a repeat of the same scene over and over with nothing too exciting going on.

I'm actually really disappointed since I waited until the last book was out to start this series and now I'm just not sure I'll come back to read the rest of the books.

This was intense!!! Like in ways I didn’t think it could be though I’m not mad at it. Picking up right where book one left off we are faced with Ayla alone and in captivity and far from her pack. At the mercy of the mate who rejected her. And oh man do we have revelations here!!! I won’t say what they are so fear of spoilers but I will say DAMN.

The pack dynamics both within individual packs and among the greater zodiac packs left me on the edge of my seat. The tension and feelings between our leading lady and her chosen alpha really worked for me here and I so badly wanted them to just be happy. Knowing now that this will be four books instead of three makes me both very anxious and insanely happy. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

Fated/Rejected Mates Shifter Romance

Elizabeth Briggs is mean. That cliffhanger was wrong. Then she did it again in this book! I'm still very hooked on this series and dying to see what will happen.

My biggest complaint is the little twist with Jordan that gets revealed fairly early on in this book. I didn't know if that was really necessary. Couldn't it have just felt wrong because of the Sun Witches dealings and her feelings for Kaden? Adding that extra layer pushed it to far for me. I've read a lot of plots that love to use this as a twist element and I'm not a fan. I think you can do more with character development and feelings than dramatics. We already all felt a certain way about that bond, it wasn't needed. There's enough going on. In a way, it almost negated him too much. I liked having him complicated, but not in this way.

I loved her and Kaden's road trip. That worked well for me. The packs reaction to all of the events of the first book also was good. I wish there was more about that. Will there be in the next book? I think they'll all be a bit distracted, but of course the final scene may cause more dissention. I still love this universe and think overall this book was a good continuation of the story, minus the Jordan bit.

Why did I read this so fast?

Stress reading is a thing. Whenever I had to take my mind off things, there was this book waiting for me. I read it in a matter of days, even quicker than I read the first book, I think. Star Cursed was as incredible as Moon Touched , giving me the right amount of angst, plot twists and feels to keep me binging. Ayla and Kaden are wonderful in all their wolfish glory.

I was happy to see some theories confirmed, though there are a few others not necessarily linked to Ayla and Kaden that I’ve developed. That, plus the brutal ending make me so very excited to read the next book, which comes out in January. Bookish gods be praised.

So if you like shifter romances, especially wolves, than what are you waiting for? Pick up this series now and fangirl with me!

Star Cursed by Elizabeth Briggs
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶

What I loved:
🦊 meeting new packs/characters
🐺 world expansion
🦊the ending

Briggs hit her stride in this sequel. From the world and magic system, to the characters, I was obsessed.

I really liked what Briggs is doing with the romance. I love that the characters aren't instantly together and have these trials and complications to overcome. I also loved the twists and old characters coming back. While some characters fell by the wayside for others, there was some great character growth in this.

The plot is thickening oh so deliciously! The twists, the meetings, the ending! I was locked in. This was action packed and rather intense. I loved the politics. I can't wait to see where Briggs takes this.

Once again, the pacing was a tad faster than I'd have liked and created similar issues to the first book. I'd love to see versions of these extended to really dive into the minutiae of the characters. There were also family relations I had a hard time following. There's just so much going on that a quick pace like this does the novel a disservice.

Overall, this series is one of the better werewolf series I've read. I love where Briggs is taking this. I'm excited to continue and I can't get enough of this magic system!

I wasn't super happy with Ayla at the end of the last book. I know she didn't have much of a choice in going with the Leos, but it made everyone think she was a traitor. Then she tries escaping and totally fails lol. I also thought her fighting training was better than it really should have been. She only trained for like a month but suddenly she's better than skilled warriors? Hmm.

I did enjoy the scenes with Ayla and Kaden figuring out their relationship and there was a surprise character that made me happy. I want to know more about the Moon Witches so hopefully that's addressed in the next book. I also wonder about these mating bonds and how many of them might not be real.
