King Alfred is not sent to Ogormoth to escape — he is sent there to be judged.

Thrown into the mirrored depths beneath the kingdom's asylum, Alfred finds himself surrounded by witches, soldiers, monsters, and survivors whose lives were shaped by his rule. Led by a smiling Jester, they are gathered into an arena carved from accusation and memory.

One by one, the others are forgiven. Alfred is not.

As ancient powers stir below and the true purpose of Ogormoth is revealed, Alfred is faced with a final choice — vindication, or sacrifice.

Ogormoth! is a dark fantasy of guilt, power, and the cost of holding evil at bay when the world would rather you let it win.

Ogormoth is a short story in The Lost Aeden series by Jonathan Hunter. This story is about King Alfred who is captured and thrown into the asylum, Ogormoth by a demon called Father. He and his companions must face demons, their fears and trials to escape from the asylum.

What a joy to be reunited with The Lost Aeden series and Jonathan Hunter’s fantastic writing style that always manages to capture the suspense, dark atmosphere and story in a special way. Ogormoth is a story filled with suspense, horror, trials, villains and monsters that are horrifying.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The storyline and descriptions was captivating and also a bit scary at times. Each character has their own unique personality and story. This is seen when the men has to tell about their sin; What caused them to be thrown into Ogormoth. This is also one of my favorite scenes in the story!

The story is told from King Alfred’s point of view and I loved his character. He is acting like a true king, but he is also flawed. Almost all of his companions trust him and are ready to follow him. What I also enjoyed was his love for his wife, Marianne

Of course I have to mention the beautiful book cover as well! Jonathan Hunter’s books have some of my all time favorite book covers.

I’d recommend you to read this one as well as his other books if you like dark fantasy.

After reading first three short stories by Jonathan Hunter, I’ve had high expectations for this one. And it didn’t disappoint. The story follows four companions that try to escape from a secret asylum by playing a game. What I like in general about Hunter’s stories is how main characters are portrayed. You root for them but at the same time you’re aware that they are morally grey (to put it politely) so you just give up on taking sides and wait to see what happens. This one’s no exception. The story is super exciting and holds your attention until the very end. It’s a must-read.

Ogormoth
Author: Jonathan Hunter
Part four: In the Lost Aeden series

Ogormoth is a dark Asylum, where you absolutely do not want to end up. Those who are convicted and sent to Ogormoth will face a hellish stay. This also applies to King Alfred who, together with a number of companions, must endure the greatest trials of their lives.

Various demons, villains, dark forces and traps will do their utmost to swallow them up.

Ogormoth is a place where survival is only possible if you manage to face your worst fears, and even then there is no guarantee that you will make it out alive....

I really enjoyed reading this story. The monsters are described in such detail that I felt like I was trapped in Ogormoth myself.

Jonathan's stories always have nerve wracking plots that never cease to amaze me.

If you are a fan of horror/thriller books and you like to read short horror stories, I can recommend this series.

Trigger warnings:
Blood & gore, violence and horror elements

“My mind raced in the split moment before I moved. Every insecurity, every fear I had ever felt, every nightmare of my childhood stood next to and looked down on me with melted faces. It was like I was completely devoid of emotion, yet something came hammering upon that emptiness... It was fear.”

As i read each story when it came out, the newest one always seemed to top the enjoyment of the previous. You can see the world, characters and the author himself growing with every new installment. However, this is absolutely a masterful finale to everything that happened so far. If you asked me what a perfect formula for a short story would be i would just recommend you this title, which i’m sure already seems quite intriguing on its own. Ogormoth is a nightmarish asylum that King Alfred was thrown into after getting captured by the demon called Father. With a couple of other characters he meets along the way, the king must face all the horrors and mysteries awaiting in the darkness, and around every corner.
Not only is the spine-chilling atmosphere described in a very effortless manner, but both the physical and psychological challenges the characters face keep you on the edge of your seat at all times.
The story has a very balanced dynamic, from seemingly steady in the beginning to explosive in just a short amount of pages.
You will follow a point of view of a complex, flawed character, the type you will try to figure out from the start, but that shows a human side you will definitely find a way to relate to. And as for the villains, you can’t help but get excited for anyone from the colorful cast to appear and make things harder than they already are!

As much as i would love to i don’t like giving away spoilers, because i always believe going into a book with no clue where it’s going to take you adds so much to the reading experience. So lets just say that the demons the reader faces all take different forms. Some have a gruesome, bizarre appearance that you might have nightmares from after..or maybe you are already used to them after reading the rest of the stories, in which case you might see them as a warm, familiar face which is also fine i guess..
The other ones are always terrifying, no matter how brave you are because they don’t have a real form but are rather a part of different human experiences. Whether it’s disturbing, deranged secrets of some, the enormous weight of power and consequence, facing tragic sacrifices with a grin on your face or being apart from the one you love so much.

I think this collection is great as an introduction, but also slightly more fun when you are already familiar with the events and characters of the book. Whichever direction you take you won’t regret it, which is why it’s needless to say I believe there is a lot to gain from and experience in these tales. From the adrenaline of being shocked and entertained, getting lost in the spooky scenery being painted in front of you, to feeling the depth of sadness and love, representing the biggest source of strength and weakness a person can experience.
Can’t wait to see what the bright future of this entire story brings!

Ok wow.

I thought I would never have a clear favorite among the stories, but this one...

I’m not sure that I could even express all the feelings I felt throughout this book- fear, happiness, sadness, but most of all respect.

The kings POV might be my favorite one yet throughout the whole series. He is, in his heart- a true king, but he is also a human. The love that he has towards his people, the lust for his wife, and the hope he has for saving the kingdom, are just beyond me.

Not only is the writing amazing, but the storyline is even better than any other from Jonathan( and I loved every one of them). The way he wrapped it all in the epilogue. Just wow.

Finally, as this is the last installment (yet) I can honestly say- the whole series is a must-read!

Ogormoth by Jonathan Hunter is a gripping fantasy novella that plunges readers into the perilous depths of The Other Asylum. Following King Alfred and his companions as they confront demons and navigate treacherous traps, the story masterfully blends suspense with rich character development. The author's vivid world-building and engaging narrative make this a compelling addition to the Tales of Aeden series.

The pace is good and I was completely invested in this game of suspense, betrayal and King Alfred making new alliance with unknown beings to come out of the perilous Ogormoth.

ok, but needs work

The story flows better than the prior books, but the horrific formatting, missing letters, and errors make it difficult to read.

This is my second favorite short story after The First Gate. It's atmospheric and dang creepy!

It follows King Alfred who is captured and sent to a mysterious asylum called Ogormoth. There he meets some companions and together they try to escape the nightmare.

Out of every POVs from four different short stories, I like the King's the most. In my opinion, he acts like a true king with a bit of morally gray in there, all for the sake of his people.

The ending is amazing! Makes you want to immediately dive into the first full-length book, The Lost Aeden.
