What are your secrets worth to you?

To Lina Malnar, a member of the secret Cartographer Association tasked with keeping the knowledge about portals to other worlds safe from the unassuming public, the early weeks of 1946 mark the first time she’ll get to spend a few days in peace and quiet with her lover, her partner, her otherworldly copy Karol and her impressive collection of bespoke suits.

Getting invited to stay at the elusive family home of the Prodans—Karol’s adoptive family, the one she won’t say a word about to Lina—is not how the girls planned to spend their first vacation together. Being involved in a fatal accident at the engineering marvel site nearby, the wind repressor engines atop of the Quarnaro Bay, wasn’t part of the plan, either.

But the cogs of Upper society of the Bay keep turning, and with help from old friends, newly met relatives and a little patience and cunning, Lina and her partner will soon have to find their way out of a very old, very private, very discreet family problem.

In a world where everything is golden nothing truly glitters, and the secrets you don’t know can still cost you your life.

Karol and Lina attract trouble like nobody's business. I think that the great question of this series is if they'll ever be able to travel somewhere together without a dead body or a conspiracy appearing. But, I suppose, if they never got into trouble it'd make for a pretty dull read after a while, no? Since I don't want to spoil the mystery, all I'll say is that it was interesting to meet Karol's family, who are all very unique. And that, after the ending, my interest in the fourth book has greatly increased.
