A drowned planet. A terrible secret. A girl desperate for answers.
In a world where sea levels have risen to unimaginable levels, an isolated society exists. Life in The Beck is tough. Floodwaters constantly threaten existence, and rules must be followed to ensure the survival of the entire society.
Sixteen-year-old Quin knows the Governor is hiding something. When she receives a sudden promotion to the Patrol Sector, she hopes the extra freedom will help her expose his lies.
Life in Patrol is not what she expected, though. The new recruits train hard, and failure is not tolerated. When she attracts the attention of the handsome, mysterious Cam, he warns her that asking questions could get her killed.
But Quin can’t resist. She digs deeper and discovers that there's more to Cam than meets the eye. With her heart and her life on the line, Quin has to decide how far she is willing to go to protect the people she loves.
Clare Littlemore is a young adult dystopian and sci-fi author who thrives on fictionally destroying the world with a cup of tea by her side. The tea will often be cold, because her characters have a way of grabbing hold of her and not letting go until the final page of their story is finished. They regularly have the same effect on her readers.
As well as being a writer, Clare is an avid reader. In other people's books and her own, she enjoys imagining how the world might look in a few decades and considering how ordinary characters might deal with the extraordinary situations the future throws at them. Clare lives in the North West of England with her husband and two children.
This series is just sooo good. I hadn’t read dystopia lately and it was really nice starting again with this. Even if I struggled a bit to understand the world at first, I learned and enjoyed it really much (even if I would have loved a map of the Beck! I love maps, that is). I found some similarities with the Divergent series in the closed world and the “factions” but it was original enough to let me appreciate it. The characters are really well written and I appreciated that there is romance but it’s not overshadowing the plot. Strong friendships are always a plus and I loved seeing Quin’s grow. Thanks to the author for providing me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was hooked on this intriguing series from the first page of the first book.
Our main character, Quin, is living and employed in the society known as The Beck. In her drowned planet, floods could destroy what little food is received and the crops themselves, meaning everyone would starve. The pressure of the survival of the whole of The Beck is on the Agric sector's inhabitants' shoulders. Quin wants to move to a Super's role, as she would then have a tiny bit of flexibility in her life and more food.
I really enjoyed the slow-burn connection between Cameron and Quin when he helps her evade capture one night after being outwith her sector.
Quin doesn't trust the leaders at all, but rules have to be followed. The consequences are brutal, as Quin's friends find out. When Quin finds out the unbelievable horror of what is going on in another sector, she seriously wishes that she could unsee it again. She also knows that she has to do something about it.
As the story progresses, Quin adapts to living in Patrol and having Cameron so near... but yet so far. She tries with all her heart to help her friends, others, and the Resistance, as does Cam. I loved the way that there are some absolutely heartbreaking moments coupled with distrust, death, fear, love, and action-packed emotional hope! I'm not afraid to say that I shed a few tears during my reading, and I think that I went through every feeling in my body.
The world building, fullness of the characters, the plot, the storytelling, and the way that the author can, within a few words, pull the emotion from your soul with added goosebumps, are excellent. This series is the first work I have read by Clare Littlemore, but it will certainly not be the last.
I chose an ARC copy of this work from a collection, which I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed The Flow Series Complete Collection by Clare Littlemore and I definitely recommend every book in it that I received through bookfunnel. The books in this series are also available individually on Amazon
The Flow series is an experience to be had. Following our 16-year-old protagonist, Quin, along her journey is a completely engrossing way to live in a world ruined by catastrophic flooding. A quick rundown: Book 1, Flow - The world is in shambles after devastating flooding. Society is encouraging the complacency of its citizens, but Quin is having none of it. She lives in one of the few savior societies, communities risen from the destruction, named The Beck. She knows that the rules exist for a reason and that they sustain the life they are accustomed to, but something is calling her to break them. Once Quin discovers the truth of the laws she knows, she realizes she cannot stay silent or complicit for much longer.
In Book 2, Break, Quin is back and struggling to understand her future in the harsh world she is only starting to see. After discovering the truth about those in charge of The Beck (Governance), she vows to protect her loved ones no matter what. In order to do this, she joins the Resistance. Rebellion is hard though, and it has to remain a secret no matter the cost. As the safety of those closest to her is threatened, Quin knows it's time to stand up. With Governance stopping at nothing to protect the world they know, Quin has to decide how far her loyalty extends.
In Book 3, Drift, Quin must decide if she should follow her head or her heart while fighting her way through a world she is completely unfamiliar with. Quin hoped that freedom from The Beck would mean happiness. Unfortunately, she finds herself on the outside sooner than she planned, leaving her unprepared for the harsh reality. She is haunted by memories day in and day out. The band of escapees makes their camp on a small island, where shaky bonds are formed and then broken. Quin realizes that freedom doesn't always mean peace. When one of her fellow escapees puts everything on the line (and everyone in danger) to save his loved ones, she realizes just how precarious their position is.
In the finale, Book 4: Quell, Quin and the allies she has made along the way choose to engage in the ultimate battle to save their loved ones and The Beck as a whole. After surviving the virus that endangered her small community, Quin learns that this same illness is endangering the citizens of The Beck. With Governance in control, Quin knows her friends and loved ones are in unparalleled danger. Quin's community knows they aren't strong enough to take on Governance alone, so they ally with another survivor society, The Ridge. This allyship is tenuous, at best, and one wrong word or action could destroy all their dreams. As the groups prepare for battle, Quin is faced with a revelation that makes her question everything. She will have to decide what she is willing to sacrifice for freedom, and what this sacrifice will mean for the future.
My thoughts: I am a huge fan of dystopian literature. I mean it's the genre I chose for my second thesis, so obviously I like it. I think that this series has a unique perspective, as I hadn't read a dystopic piece based on the world after flooding. There was a nice blend of apocalyptic events combined with dystopic society, so I never really knew what was coming next. Knowing the society was based on survival and fear made it feel very tangible. There was also a very real element of the way the society was divided between the elite members and those lower-level citizens that have to work hard to survive. The series is fast-paced and really involved. The world-building was done well and didn't feel gratuitous, as it happened over the span of the series. The way each book melds into the next made it very compelling to keep reading, especially because there wasn't the agony of waiting for the next book. There were so many gripping and exciting moments, but also moments of total heartfelt emotion. I think that learning all the characters' names was my biggest difficulty, but because this was an e-book, it was extremely easy for me to make a note every time a new character was mentioned. I think that this series is perfect for fans of dystopian societies who may be a little nostalgic for characters like The Hunger Games' Katniss Everdeen or Divergent's Tris.
Clare Littlemore has attached the following warning to this series: "Contains violence and some upsetting scenes. Recommended for a 13+ audience."
Overall rating: 4/5
The Flow Series Complete Collection will be available for purchase on September 1st. Be sure to add it to your Goodreads shelf. Also, be sure to check out Clare Littlemore’s website! I received a copy of this book series in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Clare Littlemore for the opportunity to read her work!
I love the dystopia genre and really enjoyed Flow and how the author introduced us to this particular dystopian world and the sophisticated web of rules that restricted and channeled its residents into an oppressed existence. Her character development was excellent and I found myself caring a lot about Quinn, the protagonist and her best friends. The suspense of watching them uncover the truths about their society made the book a page turner.
The world was revealed through the action in the story as opposed to lots of exposition and backstory about the world. This writing approach made the novel a page turner and at the same time did a great job of immersing you in The Beck, the civilization where the story takes place.
I think this book was a great start for the series and I couldn’t wait to read the next sequel.
Flow Series Book II - Break When you finish Flow (Book 1) and start reading Break (book 2), you venture with Quin into the Patrol sector. This sector opens up a whole new world for her with greater challenges and a rude awakening as to the extreme inequalities inherent in the regime. She faces some tough choices. Again, like Book 1, this story is a page turner and will keep you engaged. The author creates a seamless transition from the previous book and I’ve really grown attached to the characters. Quin’s budding romance is also an element that adds interest and suspense to the story. Great pacing and story telling.
Flow Series Book III - Drift I tore through this series, one book after the other because the story captivated me and enveloped me in its world and characters. Finishing one book left me wanting the next. In Drift you travel with Quin to a small island inhabited by only a few people who had successfully escaped from The Beck. Yet, surviving on the island is full of tremendous challenges and Quin misses her friends and her love interest that she left behind. There is also a great deal of suspense about the inhabitants of a nearby island and to what extent they are a threat for Quin and her companions.
Although in a completely different setting, which at first I thought I would mind, I found it added another layer to the overall story that peaked my interest even more. The story is every bit as attention grabbing as the first two books, and the author does a wonderful job of seamlessly connecting with the previous novel and moving the story forward. Just when life seems to start settling into a more stable existence, danger rears its head. If you enjoyed the first two novels, you'll love this one!
Flow Series Book IV - Quell I loved, loved, loved this story line. Quell was the perfect ending for the series. By the time I got to this novel I felt like I'd grown up with Quinn and her bunch of friends. The more I read, the more engaging this dystopian story became. The losses were heart wrenching and elicited my tears. Yet, joy and hope also dawned that a free, family oriented society might be within reach. That was refreshing. We got to know some of the characters more deeply while at the same time new dimensions emerged for characters we already knew.
When you're going to bed at night, getting ready to fall asleep and feel like you're in the Craggs, the Ridge or the Beck with Quinn, you know the book has captured your heart. Great world building.
There were some twists in the story that were quite surprising to me. No way did I see them coming (only in retrospect). Great plot development. But...no spoilers. If you enjoy dystopian novels, you'll like The Flow Series.
This is a must read for young adults and adults alike!!! The characters come to life with the way the author wrote them. Jump in and enjoy! What a turmoil of ups and downs and a world surrounded by water. The bond between these girls gave me so much hope. Love the details the Clare LIttlemore provides for each character. So many UPS and downs in this book Series! The characters are so strong, and the emotions are beyond. I like the style of the writing from the author. These characters are battling themselves as well as others. Oh my goodness, as this series moves throughout each book is amazing, the battles Quinn fights with herself and her own thoughts. And Cam what he has been going through to help and worrying about Quinn. When it all seems to start working out bam the author hits us readers with another whammy. Love the characters. I want more, I need more!!!! "OH MY GOSH!!!! Once I just finished this series all I could say was oh my gosh....I was taking on so many rides, ups and downs, so many emotions. I sat and smiled, screamed no, hollered yes, and cried! This was the best ending to a series I have read in a long time. So much though, so many emotions that flow through this book, flowing into you and overtaken you with each word you read. I couldn't help but feel so much for Quin and the battle that The Beck, The Ridge, and The Crag had to face not only each day of their lives, but to try to make all three a better place to live for everyone. " Get this book series and you will NOT be disappointed! Oh my Clare Littlemore, what an amazing end to your series, thank you so much for this journey with your style of writings. Heck Yeah! Read this series!!!
The Flow Series tells the story of sixteen-year-old Quin and her life living in The Beck a community of people who are trying to survive after the world was destroyed by Mother Nature. Life inside the Beck is very hard. Beck is divided into different sections and everyone must work and live in their assigned sections.
The Flow Series took my attention on the first page and never lost it as I was glued to my kindle for the remainder of the day as I couldn’t stop reading. The tension, the secrets, the twists, the fear, the unknown kept me lost in this amazingly wonderful dystopian world not to mention the characters as they played a big role in keeping me hooked. The ending had me in tears I just couldn’t believe what I was reading I caught myself just staring at my screen thinking no, no, no.
I really love this Series, The Flow Series; the world-building is just so awesome and amazing. I love all the characters and I feel as if I am right there with them as they fight their battles and rooting for them the whole way. If they are sad then I am sad. If they feel fear then I feel it too, for them. I love Clare Littlemore’s writing style it makes the stories so much more interesting.
I highly recommend The Flow Series Complete Collection to all fans of dystopian, apocalyptic, or post-apocalyptic fans. One-click yourself a copy of The Flow Series Complete Collection today to begin a wonderful journey into a new world.
Overall I would give this series a 5, rounding up a little bit because I will definitely reread these at some point. Individual book reviews below.
Flow:I received a digital arc for an honest review.
A dystopian society built after floods wiped out regular society. Told from the point of view of Quin it is quick to discern something is not quite right with how things are ran. I loved the slow burn of the whole story and enjoyed the characters. And that ending, I had a feeling something awful was going on but that caught me by surprise and then left me hanging. On to book2!
Break:I received a digital arc for an honest review.
So much more action in this one and I'm really liking so many of the characters. The relationships are so believable. The ending wow I was not expecting that.
Drift:4.5 stars. I received a digital arc for an honest review.
It's a whole new world in Drift. A new land to most, new friendships, enemies and then a horrible sickness and not being able to save everyone. Who will make it through and who won't? Who is to be trusted and who will survive in the end?
Quell:I received a digital arc for an honest review.
4.5 stars A great ending to this series. War, death, new life, love, a new world, and a new way of living. One of my favorite reads this year.
Clare Littlemore’s “Flow Series” is an exceptional and entertaining read that will keep you on your toes. This is a dystopian series that is fast-paced and a quick read. Once I started reading I could not put the book down! As soon as I finished one book I was onto the next one withing a matter of minutes. If you liked The Hunger Games or Divergent, these books are right up your alley. I highly recommend this read to any dystopian readers out there.
Flow is a YA dystopian series that follows Quin, the main character, as she figures out her life in her society, The Beck. In The Beck the laws are strong and the rules must be followed. If a rule is broken, the offender risks being sent to clearance, never to be heard from again. As Quin navigates life in The Beck, she will discover that some laws are hard to follow. When she discovers a truth about The Beck that has been hidden, how far will she go to escape the grasp of The Beck.
The Flow boxset is an epic journey and one that any fan of dystopian YA should take. It can feel difficult to find a dystopian world that doesn't feel "done"... the all-powerful elites and the downtrodden and disposable masses as the usual tropes, but this series does deliver originality and excitement along the way. I've given this series 4/5 (4.5 if I could) stars only because it took me a little while to engage with Quin and to buy into the creativity of the world that Littlemore has created... but once I was in, I was all in! I enjoyed the introduction of other places in the later books and the creative vision it took to bring to life the many ways in which societies might survive when the waters rise. Painfully realistic projection, I'm afraid. Divergent is the obvious corollary but Flow is a series all its own and should be on any YA list. Enjoy!
Not just shades of Divergent, but extremely like it. If you enjoyed that series, invest in this one. I become enthralled by this very narrow, but well-described civilization. Quinn and her two friends face a harsh reality that they must do their part to help all that live in The Beck. What they don't realize is that this system is terribly, terribly flawed and they are on a journey that will test the limits of their minds, bodies, souls, and friendship. Throughout the whole series, bonds will be tested as they face many and varied challenges. Great job by the author for enthralling me into this world and with captivating characters that I both loved and hated. I would recommend this for all those that love a great dystopian read. It is well rounded in both world building and rememberable characters.
To start with, this is one of the best box sets you can read. It is 4 books but they flow into each other and this set has them all. The writing is very good and the plot is good. It is original, almost like Apocalyptic and not. It is a great mixture of life when you have the elite at the top and the lowlifes who exist below. The characters are very good and my biggest problem was remember their name. There are a though that are the main ones and they continue thought the series. To tell you what the book is about would really take the suspense out of the book. It is enough that I can truly say it was one of my favorite books now. Clair Littlemore has really done a great job telling this story.
This series is an awesome read. All four books take you deep into the dystopia world of the Beck. Each book offers new suspense and builds on the storyline. I was hooked from the first book and was never disappointed. I think this series stands above the dystopia novels that have received so much attention, (hunger games, divergent, maze runner, and so on). The author does a great job building on the story and characters with each book. Some dystopia series tend to get bland in the middle books and with this series I never felt that. I really hope if dystopia novels are your thing or not you give these AC chance, you won't be sorry.
I really enjoyed this series mainly because the characters are likeable, and face challenges some normal to teens and some more realistic to the world they live in. I loved the interaction between Quinn and her friends and how each character found strength out of their hardship. The world building is well done and the imagery of the Beck and the surrounding lands jumps out from each page. This story had me hooked from page one and being a relatively quick reader the books were done in two days. What a wonderful series and I hope the author will continue to create more of the same.
For the first time in a long time - I just can't keep going. I bought this complete collection after reading Trail. While there was *some* stupidity, it was bearable. The first book in this collection - there are at least 3 times when the MC makes an ABSURDLY STUPID decision.....when newbies under watch got access to dynamite? That was it. I just could not go along in the fantasy land. I like fantasies.....but they have to MAKE SENSE.
I loved this book so much. The way the author wrote the characters made them come to life. The writing style was something I truly enjoyed. I’m not always a fan of dystopian but I throughly enjoyed this book series. The bond between the characters was so strong and it was so nice to see this in a book. I would recommend this book to anyone who asked for a dystopian recommendation.
I read these books one by one two years ago, and loved them. So I bought the boxed set. I know that seems silly, but it’s worth it to support an author whose books I enjoyed so much. I even signed up for the author’s newsletter so I will know when she releases new books. Give these a read. You won’t be disappointed.
Oh wow. This series was great. I read these individually awhile back and liked them so well, I just bought the box set. Oh my! I started this book laying in bed and quickly wished I hadn't. Next thing I knew it was 3am and I was almost 40% thru the book. Had to stop. Finished the next evening. Looking forward to reading more!
I honestly couldn’t get enough of this series. It one of those stories that you just can’t stop reading. The characters make you feel what they are feeling and you go on the Journey with Quinn. It is a society built on fear. On survival. Gripping, heartfelt and exciting
The story was fairly well told, and as such I enjoyed the story. However the rating reflect that this is not a genre I really like so for people who like survival stories this series would probable be a 4.
Clare Littlemore's The Flow Series is a great read. Set in a flooded dystopian world, life is hard and not everything is as it seems. Great characters and a great plot.
I highly recommend this dystopian series. It is extremely awesome. The characters are great. Loved the action. It is a fun ride. Pick it up you will love it.
An absolutely brilliant dystopian series! Ups & downs, high & lows overall an excellent read! I did really enjoy all of this series, well written, brilliant well thought out complex plots! Twists & turns, excitement through out! What more could you want? I do recommend!
