Heck Espinoza's Spanish roots are deep in the New Mexico Territory's soil.
Early Bascomb is a Southern drifter fleeing a murder warrant back in Mississippi.
When a stranger turns up and offers the unlikely partners a chance at a big payout, neither man is in a position to refuse the work.
But the job isn't everything they've been promised, and sometimes a man's loyalty must be given to what he knows is right, even when what's right comes at a high price.
If you love gritty Westerns where you can taste the trail dust and feel the horse beneath you, then saddle up and ride along with Heck and Early as they cut a trail through the New Mexico Territory.
Awesome start to a new series! Heck&Early are problem solvers (fancy word for bounty hunters). The rich rancher wants to hire them to catch some cattle rustlers. Apparently the villagers are to blame. Heck feels something is amiss but they agree to take a look. They don't like what they see and there are two sides to every coin. The villagers have a different take. Highly recommend!
Book 1 about Heck Espinoza and Early Bascomb with adventures in the New Mexico Territory. The story has guns blazing, horses running, and crooks trying to get away. They are bounty hunters, of sorts, but call themselves “problem solvers.” I had to smile at their conversations and love of their horses with odd names. They couldn’t abide with anyone who would harm a woman let alone sell them to be abused. This is the storyline of the book. Hubby and I enjoy a good western. Thanks for excellent writing.
This is a fun book to read. Heck and Early are likable and honorable protagonists who get themselves into tight spots with a certain regularity. Their dialogue is humorous and their antics reminded me of a classic Western movie. I liked the way the story was bookended by the search for Johnny Thorpe. I especially liked the way the author alternated between the viewpoints of the two characters as he told the tale.
Very good Western and written differently than most I've read. Most of the others have a character who never misses when he shoots, always wins fights, is tall and handsome, and seems to be able to take on 30 or 40 enemies and always win. These two characters get taken prisoner, beat up, miss when they shoot sometimes, even with a rifle and aiming, and a lot of times are down on their luck but good decent people on the inside, Just an enjoyable read.
This book has it all, an excellent storyline, suspense, action and great dialogue. Peecher pulls you in with a pair of quick witted protagonists, Heck and Early. Even the horse's names are cool, Tim Buck Two(he bucked off the owner, twice) and Poco a Poco (spanish for little by little). This has all the makings of a great series.
Started okay, got worse quickly. All the story components missed each other leaving plot disjointed, dragged out, and semi climatic. Consequently there never was any sense of satisfaction of good over evil.
A well told tale. Very much like the dime novels of the day, just more detail. It's very entertaining and descriptive of the area between Santa Fe and Las Vegas.
