Two witches. One campus. Their favourite place to be is where the other one isn’t.
Helen and Malick have been successfully avoiding each other all year, but when an impending magical disaster threatens the place they both call home, they are forced to work together.
But she left magic behind. And he begins to discover that everything he thought he knew about magic was wrong.
Both will need to relearn magic in order to save themselves and the college.
Delightful read, highly anticipating the next book.
A bit of a slow burn with excellent worldbuilding! I can’t wait for the next book for the continuation of Hel & Mal’s journey. I very much enjoyed the way the author characterizes magic.
I like her world building. It flowed just as though her magic was something we see every day. Two witches struggle against the improper way witches are taught to use magic and the harm that method does to the world. They each, in different ways, have to relearn how to do magic. Great character development for such a short work. It was a little too short, in my opinion, but I know that short is now the thing. I look forward to seeing what happens next and hope it comes soon.
Anything you might be looking for in a book, you can find in this charming short novel. A strong story with relatable characters; a fantasy universe that feels comfortable and familiar, yet shimmers with magic; a subtle message presented with finesse and flair - these elements are all woven together into a delightful story that is a joy to read.
So easy to jump into and interesting right away! I loved the way magic is explained throughout the short story and integrated into their world. It felt like so much more could be done in this book and my only wish was that a longer story were told!
This is an incredibly written novella with a fully realised magic system and a slow burn romance on the side. I only wish it was longer and hope to be able to revisit the world soon
