Thoth, the god of magic, has one year to find out what happened to the missing Anubis. The last thing he needs is a rogue sorceress tearing up Alexandria and distracting him with her devastating smile...

THOTH is the second book in the new series ‘Gods of the Duat’ that centers around the Egyptian gods of war, magic and the dead. Perfect for readers who like plenty of snark and sass in their enemies to lovers romance!

Thirteen years ago, Thoth made a terrible mistake. He helped a human get out of an arranged marriage, and in return, she stole one of his precious books. When dangerous supernatural creatures appear in Alexandria, Thoth knows his book and the bride are to blame.

Kema loves magic. She has a book of it she can’t read, but that won't stop her from trying to use it in her fortune telling business. A girl has to make a living after all, and what harm could come from reading a book?

When Thoth finds Kema instead of the dangerous sorcerer he was expecting, he makes her a deal… she has to help him capture all the creatures she’s set loose in Alexandria. If she refuses, there’s a spot in the Duat that Thoth has already picked out for a thief like her.

Kema has a way of wriggling under Thoth’s defenses and sparks a fire inside of him. She is dangerous, infuriating, utterly irresistible… and he can’t get enough of her.

Drawn into the world of gods and magic, Kema joins the hunt for Anubis and discovers that she might have found the family she’s always been looking for… and that love might not be a con after all.

Thoth is the second book of the ‘Gods of the Duat’ series. Please note, it is an adult paranormal romance that contains graphic violence, swearing, and steamy sex scenes.

Expectation setting - I LOVED Set. I felt his and Ayla's story was the perfect introduction to these Egyptian yummies. But I was not prepared for how much I was going to love Thoth even more.

Firstly, a brainy God? Oh heck yes!

Secondly, our FMC? A con artist with a heavy helping of sass.

PLUS we get to see more of the crossover with our friendly neighbourhood Greek gods.

I am so scared for Anubis because it's the last one in my Alessa reads but also, with how high Set and Thoth have set the bar, I don't know where Anubis will land.

Book #2 of The Gods of the Duat was another fast paced, fun and entertaining read from Alessa Thorn.

Feisty, spunky FMC.
Grumpy, magical MMC.
Although I liked Set and Ayla more, Kema and Thoth made a decent enough couple.

The cameos by other Gods in this story made it more entertaining.

I will move to Anubis story next and I'm seriously considering reading The Court of the Underworld series as well 🤔

Oh, boy! Do we have things in common with Kema *she writes as she looks up to the little figure of Hermes on her bookshelf*

He has always been my favourite, until I've met this version of Thoth. I knew it! I knew there would be a crossover 😚

I never tire of reading about these ancient god's shenanigans.

*chefs kiss while sobbing* Someone please point me in the direction of the support group I 100% need now that I've finished this book. Just like Set's book. Just like ALL the Court of the Underworld books. I knew the come down from the high of reading this was gonna hurt becvause it did with all of them. Every single book in Alessa's Gods Universe line up. #sendhelp

Still, though... I was not ready.

I even tried to pace myself this time. I REALLY TRIED. Like okay, read 20 pages a day, that will work. I. MUST. STRETCH. IT. OUT.
But no. Thoth & Kema, AKA Alessa Thorn, said "Fuck You Krysta!" So, now I'm here - same day I downloaded the damn thing, & it's over. I couldn't stop.

In the previous book, we were introduced to Thoth when he pieced together Ayla for Set. We got a sliver of info about Anubis in Jackal form as well. I am thrilled to say that Set, Ayla, & my #1 fav boy mad trickster god Hermes were all part of Thoth's party. I could read their banter alone all day & be entertained.

It's ALL GOLD.
If these snippits aren't perfect examples of why/how one can be so drawn into this world, I can't help you. The Gods Universe is irresistable perfection.

When Thoth says to Hermes RE: Selene
“I can’t believe you managed to convince Hecate not to kill you for diddling one of her daughters.”

When Hermes explains the Godly Gossip Ladder:
“Who else is coming?” Thoth asked.
“Set and Ayla of course,” Hermes said, sitting next to Selene.
“You talked to Set?”
“No,” Hermes replied around a mouthful of cookie. “Set talked to Bellona about Anubis. She talked to Eris. Eris talked to Hades, and Hades talked to me. And here I am, ready to help.”
“Fuck, this is 30 BC all over again.” Thoth gripped the bridge of his nose and collapsed on a chair next to Kema.

It's impossible IMO not to love these ppl (gods) & their egos.
Hermes knocked on the door. The small window slid open, and a hazy red light illuminated a stern face.
“What’s the password?” the doorman asked.
light buzzed around Hermes’s hand, and he answered, “Aphrodite’s tits smell of roses.”
The doorman nodded towards the women. “All pets have to be leashed before entering.”

Then we have KEMA!!!!!
Of course there is a love connection because what am I here for if not whitty banter, & gods getting laid? Kema, the MC gives me watered down, (all whit, minus homicidal tendencies) Ariandne vibes; & I'm V into it.

“My guardian angel is probably chain smoking and lost patches of hair from stress and is very unlikely willing to give me secret magical knowledge,” Kema replied, shutting the book and offering it back to him. “I supposed I’ll just have to take my chances with the god of magic.”

“Try not to sound so disappointed.”

The sass & muttered pokes at each other are the extra touches that make these characters so enjoyable, relateable, readable - all the "ables"
“Set knows best,” Thoth muttered under his breath. “Ask Hermes for help. And you wonder why I don’t want her for an apprentice.”

Plus, dick magic. Dreamy AF.
“What do you want now?” Thoth asked.
Hermes looked at Kema. “I was invited. You didn’t tell him?”
Kema looked at Thoth apologetically. “Sorry, I asked him to come and have a look at Anubis. I was going to tell you, but you used dick magic to distract me.”

Thoth is so moody and I'm so here for it

Just finished the second book in the Gods of the Duat series and I loved it just much as the first. The story begins with Kema, a young girl running away from an arranged wedding and hiding out in a bookstore. The store owner, Thoth, the Egyptian God of Magic and Wisdom, hides her from the goons that were sent to retrieve her. Before leaving the bookstore, Kema steals a magical book that causes her all kinds of grief. Wanting to give the book back, Kema searched for it's owner. Try as she might, she could not get rid of the book until one day the bookstore reappeared and Thoth captures Kema to reclaim the book. Unknowingly, Kema had used Thoth's symbols to release creatures from the Duat. They band together to capture and return them to the Egyptian Underworld. Along the way, Kema finds out where her family roots are from and her and Thoth find that love is not always a con.

It's been a while since I visited this series, and man that is a shame, cause I really like it.

Thoth is interesting because we get to see Thoth and Hermes together. Both Gods of magic, both exceptionally powerful, but wildly different in terms of temperament.

Essentially, Thoth is an arrogant asshole. And sometimes that's just what you want. He's certainly what Kema wanted, and almost as soon as they meet, it's clear that sparks are flying. Also, I just love the idea of her accidently setting a bunch of havoc free on the world that Thoth has to fix. That just tickles me pink. Also, I want his house.

Full of books AND brings you snacks? It's perfect!

While I was away from this series for a while, I am glad I returned. I always have a good time with these spicy popcorn books, and I'm a little sad knowing that Anubis is my last "gettin' it with gods and monsters" book.

The banter between Thoth and Kema 💯

With Set as the god of war, and Thoth as the god of wisdom I would have expected Set's story to be full of fire, and Thoth's to be softer. These two books however were the exact opposite of what I expected, and it worked so damn well.

So.. a LOT of banter between the MCs as well as secondary characters, MCs who think that love is a con actually falling in love, and an excellent plot about finding and saving Anubis!
It was also amazing to see a more established Set and Ayla in this, as well as a certain other god (*spoiler*).

I already know that Anubis' book is going to be amazing. His story and his pair have already been introduced in the epilogue of Set, as well as in a couple places in this book. I'm already hugely invested in them 🤍

Once again, I didn't think the 2nd book in a series could possibly be better than the 1st...& yet again I was proved wrong, because this book is everything!

I'm an absolute sucker for gloomy, moody & sarcastic MMC's. Especially when they find "their person" in someone who refuses to put up with their sh*t & sees right through them!

Also, ALL OF THE GODS & the bants between them are absolutely God-Tier (pun intended) :D

I flew through it in about 4 hours, same as with the 1st book & I don't regret a minute of it!

4½ stars

4½ stars. The penultimate book in Alessa Thorn's Gods Universe did not disappoint. Thoth delivered all of the humorous interactions, fast-paced plotting, & sweet & spicy romance as it's predecessors. I liked the crossover between the Greeks & the Egyptian mythology in this one, too. It is always fun to be revisited by heros & heroines of previous books, & Hermes was one of my favorites within the whole series. Can't wait for the final book, Anubis, & the series wrap up. I will certainly be looking for more by this author in days to come.

Imaginative

The books are spellbinding. The characters are so engaging and I feel like these books are real, when I start I have to finish the book, I can’t put it down. Thoth is such a fantastic character, Kema is wonderful, and the books just flow from one to the next. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and romance and fabulous mythological characters

I always enjoy AT books although this one took me so long to read such a short book. Maybe my head space?

Thoth is an old Egyptian god who sang himself into existence. He’s life is magic & books.
Until Kema comes literally running into his life. She’s sass & spark, exactly what he needs.

This book focuses around trying to find Anubis and they do with the help of Hermes & Set (and their loves, from previous books).
Leads into Anubis story which is next.

I was convinced I’d finally found a character of his authors that I didn’t instantly fall for, and I was both wrong and right, I didn’t instantly fall, but I did fall. Thoth isn’t sweet, cuddly, or even good and kind, he’s broody, snarly, not very nice and very rude. But he’s perfect for Kema, who is not sweet and kind either, she’s feisty and sarcastic and defiantly unafraid. Love them together and love that one of my favourite Greeks show up.

One of my favorite Egyptian gods Thoth is a hot and grumpy man. Uhmmm yes please lol! This is sorta an a grumpy/sunshine story. And it moves the Anubis story along. We even get a visit from the Greek pantheon. Magical doors, sentient books, a house that creates based on needs and curses. This story has it all.

If you love Mythos romance this series is for you.

Ms. Thorn's series from Hades to Anubis is a definite must-read. Well written with a beautiful world building, Ms. Thorn takes you into the world of the Greek and Egyptian Gods. The sounds, the smell, the scenery all transports you into their world if romance.

I love Thoth. A smart, nerdy God? Sign me up.
Kema, on the other hand, was awful. She wasn't sassy and witty like all the previous women. She was arrogant and selfish.
I love how the Greek Gods appeared with Hermes cameo. I would've rather seen Medusa, Hades, Ariadne, Persephone, Charon, or Hecate, but I guess Hermes will suffice.

Books and Magic

Really love the main characters in book two of this series. A street smart woman who loves magic and books and the ancient god of Magic that can relate. It had a bit of a Beauty and the Beast vibe so of course it was totally for me. So far the series is holding up and I will read book three.

Well, that was a nice and quick read. I wished for more background information about the world of the Egyptian god's (The Duat and Magic in general), but it was a nice read. I loved how Thoth, the bookworm and basically introvert gets along with her and opposite.

Well researched

Despite my pet peeves about the series, I must say I love how well researched the series is. Top notch. I also love how she effortlessly egyptianises the book complete with little idioms here and there.

I enjoyed the plot of this one a lot especially the crossover to the underworld series. I am getting a little tired of the relationships in each one of these being cookie cutters of each other but the actual story is getting quite interesting as it goes on.

Enjoyed immensely! Not as full on action like Set, but loved it. This has lots of great banter and I laughed out loud or smirked a lot. Liked all the characters, and it was good to see Set and Ayla in it quite a bit. Storyline was weaker, but the conversation and the search for Anubis helped. Now on to Anubis. There was a peek of him and I quivered. Think I'm in love already. Hope he doesn't break my heart in the third book.

Not bad but not my favorite

I love Alessa's God Universe series. They're all worth reading. This one was good but lacks a bit compares to the others. The pacing was a tad odd in places and the ending seemed abrupt. 3rd POV, 🌶🌶🌶/5.
