By far my favorite introduction to watercolor book. It covers the basics with excellent paint to water descriptions for consistency. It covers beginner techniques and brush strokes but it also provides great projects to practice with. My book is well tagged and still used often. Highly recommended.
Lovely book! This is one of the best watercolor books I've read to date.
I appreciate that the intro part which discusses materials and such is kept to 30 (out of 145) pages, unlike some which span half the book. This jumps right into exercises with clear explanations of the purpose behind the exercise.
Each painting builds upon the skills and techniques presented in previous exercises, providing linear progression throughout the book. The earlier exercises feature a few types of flowers and leaves, but later ones are beautiful landscapes that look advanced but are broken down into approachable steps.
This book uses a simple grid method to show you how to sketch every single piece, which allows you to develop your sketching skill while keeping proportion and composition accurate. From there, you're shown what colors to use and what steps to take from background wash to final details.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get started with watercolor as well as anyone who wants to brush up on their skills.
Starting on watercolor with zero knowledge can be daunting but one good thing is that this book comes with everything you need to learn to have a good head start on your watercolor journey.
Jovy made it sure that people will have the fundamental knowledge of the medium - the techniques, colour theories, composition etc.; and that they will know what materials to buy without getting lost on all the art jargons.
I also love that this 150-page book comes packed with fun exercises perfect for painters at any level. Each exercises comes with easy to follow steps for you to create a wonderful composition. You’ll surely have plenty of artworks to frame after completing this book!
This was a wonderful book. I've bought so many books to learn watercolor painting, only to never get past a mucky ocean or a single layer mountain scene. The instruction and building in this book is awesome. You learn and make smaller projects that guide you gently into harder ones, so you start off with results instead of pages of practice.
