Rate this book
Six hundred and fifty years after the final demise of the Cathars and Knights Templar, a murder and a series of suspicious deaths of the clergy are linked to an innocent farm girl starting her first day as a maid in Chandringham, the stately home in England in 1918. She's thrust into the upper echelons of society and told to immerse herself in the life of the aristocracy, presented as Lady Mary Tavistock. She struggles to erase her existence as Flo and all she has ever known. Her many questions go unanswered; even worse, Lady Mary finds her life is in danger. An unexpected suitor comes to her rescue as she tries to make sense of who she is and her purpose in life.

Mary is sent to Switzerland for answers and to hone her innate abilities with others like her. There she will find a shocking world she never knew existed.

What I mostly loved about this book was the way I could relate to the protagonist, I have certainly created a bond. This book has mythical characters in it, but all is not what it seems. It is a twisted read and although it's a book is fiction I feel it is based on many facts. I have been rather fascinated with the history around the Siege of Montségur, the link between the Cathars and Knights Templar, Rennes-le-Château, Rennes-les-Bains, the corruption of clergy in the South of France around 1887-1917. I know for a fact that one bishop was bequeathed enormous amounts of money; one amount in particular was 2,002,000 francs, which would be a staggering 68,433,666 francs today. This amount did not go to the church but went in his own pocket. The trial of Priest Bérenger Saunière and his mass fortune, a brutal murder and suspicious deaths within the circle of priests around the surrounding area of Rennes-le-Château haave intrigued me for many years. The bishop and priests knew something that was worth lots of money. The Gemini Complex, The Cabal really expands on this story. I couldn’t put this book down and when I did I was left wanting more. I can't wait to read the sequel.

I was hesitant reading this book because it did not have many reviews but I am so glad a bit the bullet and bought the book. This historical fiction book pitters on the brink of fantasy. Clearly, C.A. Macrae has researched this book well. This book will become a classic, I am sure. It’s an extraordinary read! All I can say to C.A. Macrae is save Darius in the Gemini Complex, The Awakening… please, Flo needs him.

I certainly enjoyed reading the Gemini Complex, The Cabal. I've been to the South of France, Rennes le Chateau, Rennes les Bains and looked into the corruption of the clergy, mysterious deaths and murders. I say C.A. MacRae's fictional read is cutting fiction close to the bone.

If this book was a meal, I savoured it and digested every word. C.A. MacRae took me on a rollercoaster ride I did not want to get off, but when the ride stopped, it was abrupt. However, there is a sequel and I will no doubt enjoy the ride again and hopefully this time there will be no whiplash.
