Julija was born and raised in Lithuania by her single mother. Even though she had a lot of hopes and love for her hometown, lately she felt that there were not a lot of opportunities for her,  financially. With a very heavy heart she decided to move to UK and work there. Even though there were so many reasons for her to stay in Lithuania, she knew it was the only way to give her kids a better life than the one they were living in now.
She pulled a few strings with some people and got the opportunity to work in strawberry fields as a strawberry picker to be specific. To her relief she found out there were more people from Lithuania where she was working and she started feeling a sense of community. But there are always times when you feel at home and homesick at the same time. Things were a little difficult in the beginning,as it always is, but her goals gave her motivation everyday. Will she be able to build up a lavish life for her kids from the ground or will she succumb to her homesickness and return back to her family with nothing? The very first thing that caught my eye was definitely the cover page. The illustration is very beautiful and warm and it will make you feel like you will get get absorbed in its warmth. And as long as the story goes, it is also very interesting to read. It kind of reminds me of the movie "Brooklyn", it definitely gives that kind of vibe and I have to say this was a rollercoaster of emotions. The stories and experiences of people who leave their everything to earn really touch my heart. To think you have to leave everything and live and work in an alien environment it is a very scary experience but the pure determination and will to provide for their families really inspires me a lot as well. Not only is it inspirational its educational as well. I certainly recommend you add this one to your booklist .

I usually like to lead into a review and break it down into pieces, but some books make it easy for the reader to understand the book and feel fulfilled from the start. Powerful, hard-hitting and extremely real, Julija's book is very unique and engaging. Through this book, the author poured down the consequences of leaving the homeland to make money. This story follows migrants that have come to a different country to find work to help support their families back home.

This is an extraordinary story and the best part is it is a real story of the author. I love to read books that are based on real life. When I started reading this book, I was very nervous because I am very emotional. This is an amazing book but it broke my heart to see a woman struggling to take care of her family and their needs. This heartbreaking story explains the situation of migrants who have to go through a lot in a foreign country. I can't imagine what hurdles they have to cross while working in a different country.

Author Julija is brilliant at telling a gripping story while unveiling a terrible truth about the life of migrants. I love the way the author has written this story, it is mesmerizing and sad in some places. Very eye-opening to what some women must do in another country to keep helping their families. Having said all that, I did find this story to be both moving and heart-wrenching. One of the things I love about this story is the fact that it gives a chance for the voices of the most vulnerable to be heard as well as understood. The author is a wonderful writer, who pulls one into the story so easily.

I found the book moving, sad, insightful and very well written. It was an eye-opener for me and I’m sure it will be for everyone who reads it. This book is written with exquisite language that is savoured on every page. I highly recommend this book.
