Many people thought that the sweet-looking second miss of the Gu Family must be a gentle, kind and soft person.

Yet sometimes, the truth was in the hands of the few.

This is a story of a tyrant flower in the guise of a delicate flower and a seemingly sickly but extremely long-lived and infatuated emperor.

The infatuated emperor’s each day: spoil the tyrant flower, and take care of government affairs along the way.

In truth, this is a sweet story.

I think I like this better than her other novels of the same plot, probably because their mutual love is so evident.

Jin Yang is a sickly emperor because of his hardships during childhood. He literally survived and lived to be the most revered man in the world. Despite his "weak" body, he is wise, decisive, and firm when it comes to governing the world. He is also a very loving husband and father to his empress and children. Gu Ru Jiu seems to be easy-going and friendly young lady, but she knows and understands everything that lies beyond someone's act. She is smart and beautiful. She also knows her worth and fights for her right and love as the empress.

I also love that their love story started with friendship. Jin Yang always wants to be with someone who can understand him, who will treat him as who he is beside being the emperor, who does not have any hidden intentions of befriending him. This is why he fell for Jiujiu. She is an honest girl who treats him normally. Gu Ru Jiu never wanted to be the empress, but she also fell for Jin Yang's genuine acts and feelings for her.

This is a sweet love story of a sickly emperor and a lazy empress. It's worth reading.

Drama - Historical - Imperial Politics - Sweet Romance

Automated translations are not as good as ones done by people. I read both types for this one. 😆

A rather slow build up for a complex story line. Love the variety of characters, scenes and themes that the author creates. I wish the story dived a bit more about the FL being transmigrated, but not getting that info didn't hurt the story at all.

Gu family were awesome! Main pair's romance was slice of life sweet.

It's my first time to read novel that is mtl, I just can't wait for the translation! The English title for this novel is Like Pearl And Jade.

At this point, there's no doubt that Yue Xia Die Ying is my favourite Chinese author.

My 1st experience with MTL isn't so bad, it's a bit confusing at time but I get the general idea of what's happening and their conversations, but I would definitely read this novel once again when the translation is complete.

Like Pearl And Jade is my 5th novel from this author. And all of her novel that I read, I gave it either 4 stars or 5 stars. You can see how much I'm crazy over her novel. Her novel and story is quite hard to understand because there's a lot of underlying message, reading in-between the lines and subtle actions, but once you grasp the situation, it is mind blowing.

I remembered my first novel that I read from this author was Eight Treasures Trousseau, I was so confused when I read it for the 1st time, it took me around 50 chapters to finally grasped the situation and once I get it, I love it.

Okay, put that aside.

I will make comparisons between Like Pearl And Jade with Eight Treasures Trousseau and To Be a Virtuous Wife.

1) The female leads' similarities are that they're all a transmigrator from the modern world to the ancient world, but honestly it doesn't play any part in the story. In comparisons for the female leads, ETT and LPAJ are similar, both female leads are clever but lazy and doesn't meddle too much in the male lead's business. They are more "hands-off" kind of female lead.

2) In comparisons for the male lead, ETT and LPAJ is also kind of similar. Both male lead only have the female lead as their only woman and extremely loyal to the female lead. Which in TBAVW, the male lead is also loyal but he had several concubines .

3) The story has lot of scheming. In ETT, the schemes focused on the fight for the throne between the princes and their princess consorts. In TBAVW, the schemes focused on the fight in the harem. While in LPAJ, the schemes focused on the fights between the aristocratic families within the capital. All of the schemes are good and the story is very intriguing.

4) Now I'll talk about the romance in these 3 novels. In ETT and TBAVW, the sweet moments started from the beginning but much of it was mostly acting between the two couple that doesn't fully trust each other. Whereas in LPAJ, the feelings was slowly built from the beginning and the pampering intensified along with their growing affections. Between these 3 novels, there's no doubt that LPAJ couple, Jin Yang and Gu Ru Jiu, is the most affectionate and loving couple. Their feelings are genuine from the beginning of their marriage and slowly you can see how crazily in love Jin Yang is to Gu Ru Jiu. I'm loving their sweet interactions.

5) As for the story line, all 3 stories are amazing and different from each other.

If I'm ranking these 3 novels, the 1st place would be Eight Treasures Trousseau, Like Pearl And Jade in the 2nd place and To Be a Virtuous Wife in the 3rd place.

It is a short easy read. The storyline is common with a solid romance theme wrapped in rebirth. The writer dumped a lot of the twists near the end. There were too many, too late in this short story, too many involving side characters. So, it became confusing close to the end because the story is too short to add any depth to the twists.

This was way too long for its simple plot. Around the halfway mark, I thought of just DNF-ing because it was kind of boring but I persevered and... Well, I mean the pacing in this novel was fine and honestly the storyline wasn't too draggy but I would've liked it if it was shorter. The palace politics in this novel was good and well thought-out. Everyone got what they deserved in the end; those who were bad got bad endings and those good received happy endings. This story has a huge cast though, with many and complicated relationships so it took me quite a while to remember most characters' names and who they were to the main cast, but the author was good at reminding readers about who a character was.

I also liked the character development of Gu Ru Jiu (FL) and Jin Yang (ML); it was over the course of the story and went hand-in-hand with the development of their relationship. GRJ started out as a young and seemingly naive girl and blossomed into a strong and cunning woman in order to survive in the palace. It was also mentioned that she was a transmigrator but nothing came out of it - she just used her knowledge to keep herself, her family and her man safe and living happily which I can respect. GRJ and JY also complemented each other well; they were similar but they had their own strengths and thus, could support each other. JY also was very sweet on her and he respected her not only as his wife but as his equal; which I really liked reading about. One big way JY showed this is by respecting his in-laws and making all these opportunities for GRJ to keep in touch with her family, which ordinarily would not be easy because she was in the palace. Their ending was really good too - they expanded their family and lived a long and prosperous life.

It's now 1/18/24... anyway this was probably my least favorite book by this author - I still liked it, but it was YA for so much of the damn time. And 😱 they married young even for their time. Well, he did. And she got pregnant FAST too.

I did like how ML largely had a good relationship with the empress dowager - no surprise betrayal and shit. (The surprise was who might've been his dad...) and there was no trickery with the empress dowager and the FL either. I actually liked how she [the empress dowager] felt slightly torn between FL and ML and how she initially didn't want them together because she didn't want FL to live a miserable harem life. Good thing we have an excellent hero.

The two main eunuchs also played a large part too. I think this is the book with the "worst" personal servant betrayal? *sigh* - it also ... I can't remember - I think it was never told what FL's "original life" in the modern world was? Like she just ... transmigrated into a child's body and that was pretty weird.

I'm not mad at all I read this book, but there are a good number of other books I'd read before this one.

C+ maaaybe C++

… about to start c10 & still not sure where this is going like it’s kinda weird how young FL is (6,12, now 13? 😒) nice she has a little courtesy title - deserved since she thought of the potential earthquake. 💯

C14 lol ok despite ML thinking he had no intentions sending the hairpin (and all the other calming stuff) + the around in c15, he def likes FL)

Sad about the two girls that died earlier but… and I wonder if it was some scheme? Deeply hidden?

C37 😹💯❤️ I fucking love this family. “This was the Gu Family. If anyone dared to hit them, they would break the other’s bones and then grind their faces into the mud.” Really sad about the 1st Gu DiL & unborn baby. That Sima Xiang is shameless (tho I feel slightly bad) but her parents are thoroughly awful.

Heh “If this was three years ago, he might have felt that Jiu Jiu should find a husband like this. But to him at present, the closer a good man was to Jiu Jiu, the worse he felt.

This was the girl he had carefully cherished and adored. How could he be willing to let people with other intentions get close to her?” - my mans is def heads over heels now.

C42 ahhhhhh I love that the elders had ML & FL talk themselves. That ML had previously asked FL what she wanted, that he promised to not have consorts ❤️

C63… ah so it was Sima Xiang who killed the two girls. Thank goodness sadsack1 approached FL & saved her life 💯

The plot was structured nicely and very detailed. Things mentioned at the beginning of the story were brought up towards the ending which helps tie the story up nicely. Though there was that one plot point that was dropped...

Despite how nice I thought the story was planned out, I felt bored with the main characters. Jin Yang and Gu Rujiu weren't interesting to me. GRJ isn't a tyrant. I felt disappointed that she never showed any indication of being anything like the description painted her out to be. Any "tyrannical" actions she had were due to her having to live in the palace and even then it was just a few interactions. Because the main characters are already the emperor and empress, there's no real problem for them so it never felt like the story was building up to anything. Any meddlesome character never had a chance to "shake" the protagonists.

This story is similar to Eight Treasure Trousseau by the same author but I enjoy ETT a lot more. I liked how the struggles of women at the time was shown more explicitly and how the protagonist being a transmigrator is mentioned more than once. The relationship between the leads was also more enjoyable due to the fact both of them were acting so watching the acting turn into real feelings was exciting.

Hm? When I start reading this book, I was searching for book with no angst and drama. 😅
Turns out the story of this book really smooth from the start until the end. I thought I could finished it like two or three days, but it took me almost one month. Haha.
Be careful with what you wish for.
You get sweet emperor and his childhood ‘friend’. They gradually became from friends into husband and wife relationship.
Like I said before, every hardship they faced they could overturn it easily so much until I get bored at the middle of the story.
Maybe my rating would be diferrent if the chapters only around 50-ish instead of 98 chapters.
So boring. 😅

This was an alright read. It kept me entertained enough to want to finish it but it wasn't one where I had to stay up just to find out what happens next. The plot and both leads felt slightly flat but I find that with all of this author's work for me.

I love the plot so much. It progresses nicely throughout the chapter; every case gets solved. Every relationship develops nicely. Every character got what they deserved, good and bad. The ending isn't too rushed and too predictable. Nothing I could complain about—definitely one of my comfort novels. It wasn't a Chinese novel or story if it didn’t involve the mystery of someone's origin. And the way the author concludes it gives me satisfaction.

I love all. From the main to the side. Their family, maids, eunuchs and some ministers. We have strong female and male main characters. They're both witty and possessive towards each other. Protect in their own way. They didn’t shy away from showing their love. And top of the top, I love how our FMC, Jiu Jiu never reject any help from her husband. And from other people, instead of keep saying 'It's okay I can do it cause I'm such an independent girl.' She just rejects the help outright. No need for such a lengthy explanation. Smile, reject and walk away. She didn't try hard because she knew she didn't need to prove to anyone.

The lovely relationship, the epic love story. The MC keep his word and never let even one moment go by with some silly miscommunication. If they were curious, talk about it. If they have problems, share them with each other. If they need help, ask. They're jealous, show it. No secrets because marriage isn't about two strangers anymore. In some sense, you're indeed become one. Like the emperor said, 'Her Majesty is like pearl and jade.'
