When a serial killer slit my throat, I didn't see my life flash before my eyes. There was no bright light, no peaceful beckoning into the beyond.
Instead, I found myself cradled in the arms of a tattooed vampire, his two brothers holding my hands as they pulled me into the world of the supernatural.
I thought dying and being reborn was complicated, but it's got nothing on navigating a sire bond with two gorgeous men or a friendship with a wolf shifter who doesn't miss a thing. And if all that wasn't enough, a ripper has decided to tear through the city, leaving a sea of blood in her wake.
Stopping her is only half the problem. This ripper? She wants what's mine and thinks I'll roll over and give it to her.
Over my undead body.
Eff Immortality is a standalone companion novel in the Real-Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne series. You can choose to read this book on its own, or after Murder and Other Mayhem.
This was a bit of a continuation but if you are just joining, Please note, that this can be read as standalone, but best to be have read the previous books.
Effie was left for dead by the Shadow Killer. When two vamps saved her life, she joins her bestie in the supe world as a baby vamp.
So excited that Effie got her own spin-off. We met Effie in both "Death and Other Calamities and Murder" and the guys in "Murder and Other Mayhem" . I shipped them all so hard in the previous books. Super steamy, action packed, a bit of angst and humor. It literally had the same feel as reading Lorelei's books. I strive to have a friendship like Effie and Lorelei, honestly, that's her ride or die chick (no pun....ok, maybe pun intended)
Eff Immortality is the reverse harem standalone spin-off of the Real-Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne series by Sterling Thomas but can be read as a standalone. I will admit I haven't read the two previous books but I plan to. This story follows Effie after she is viciously attacked by a supernatural serial killer (I know, right) and survives only to wake up dead, or should I say undead. After so recently getting involved in the supernatural world Effie becomes supernatural, a vampire to be precise and Eff Immortality is the beginning of Effie's immortal life. Effie's life has now become dangerous and confusing but with three hot immortals by her side, I think Effie is gonna be okay.
A little background information... Lorelai and Effie are best friends who are more like sisters, Lorelai dies but Effie discovers she became a supernatural (banshee) who has four mates and has the Shadow Killer (a supernatural serial killer) after her. Effie gets taken and gets killed in the rescue attempt, then turned.
Effie takes turning into a vampire surprisingly well, she isn't devastated that she's a vampire but she did die in quite a horrible way so she has to deal with that trauma which is a little weird because Effie is a little bit of a hot mess in the emotional department. While her father showed her love constantly her mother was very critical of Effie from a very young age which caused a lot of damage. Effie doesn't have any self-confidence, she takes everything onto her shoulders, doesn't think she is good enough for everything and she can't seem to get those negative thoughts out of her own head. What her mother did could have turned Effie into a horrible human being but Effie turned into one of the kindest and caring people and that has transferred to her supernatural life but she has also carried over the negativity. It's a good thing that she has three caring guys who are helping her through this.
Malin, Barrett, and Ryker were the ones who tried to save Effie from the Shadow Killer and in turn, Malin and Ryker are the ones that Effie into a vampire and as her sires they of course want to help her but turns out they are also her mates along with Barrett who is a wolf shifter. Malin seems to be the calmer of the three, he takes on a leadership role and cares deeply for his brothers and his (their) mate, while Barrett is the happy one who boosts everyone mood, and Ryker is the dark one, he suffered some trauma and it's reflected in his personality but he carries for his brothers and his mate very deeply. It's obvious how much they all care for each other and how they have come to love Effie. They do everything they can to protect her, reassure her, laugh at her corny jokes, and help her deal with all that has happened recently in her life. The attraction is very real and there were plenty of steamy moments shared between Effie and her guys.
This world is filled with supernaturals and they all seem to get along pretty well, no major issues, no hate, factions, or political issues. Everyone pretty much gets along and they intermingle with each other, blending in with the humans. Something that surprised me but makes perfect sense is that anyone can be mated to each other and anyone can be pack and have a pack link. Doesn't make a difference if they are another supernatural race as long as they consider themselves a pack it works. I have read plenty of paranormal books and haven't come across this but it makes perfect sense to me and was a nice surprise.
Eff Immortality was a quick read that most definitely had a lot of drama, a little magic, was super steamy and had an entertaining plot. I highly enjoyed the story and loved getting to know Effie and her mates as they bond and tackle the supernatural. Effie got her happy ending but I want to see where everything started so I will be grabbing Lorelai's series fairly soon.
Eff Immortality is the reverse harem standalone spin-off of the Real-Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne series by Sterling Thomas but can be read as a standalone. I did read the two previous books and I loved them so I was so pleased to see that Effie was getting her own book! Effie was taken by a supernatural serial killer as leverage (he wanted Lorelai), she is viciously killed, and then wakes up dead, or rather undead. Effie finds herself sired to two super hot vampires and they happen to be part of a pack with a wolf shifter-also smokin' hot. Throughout this book we see Effie navigating a whole new world of supernatural, coping with it, and facing off against an enemy that is after something of hers.
Eff Immortality is a great read that will have you laughing out loud and feeling all sorts of emotions throughout. It is one of those books that you do not want to put down and then when you do, all you wanna do is read it again. The characters are fantastic together. They are described brilliantly and they make a believable team. I love the wit and banter that goes on between, not only the four MCs in this book but also the recurring ones from Lorelai's books. It does take place in a modern setting so it is easy to "see" the places and the lay of the land.
A fantastic read for all PNR RH fans. I can't wait to see what's in store in the future from this author. A book that is written excellently ad it flows together so well.
I didn't know what to expect with this book as I haven't read the previous series based on Loreli. I'm really glad I picked this up as not once could I put this down. With such a whirlwind of a story right from the first page. Right upto the amazing ending Effie and her mates deserved. This book has some heat to it too. You have to pick this up either if you have read the previous series or not as its not necessarily needed.
I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t read the other books or not but I didn’t really feel connected to the characters. One minute I would the next I wouldn’t. It started off really strong but about 70 ish percent in my attention drifted away. I liked the characters and the writing style is good and easy to read, but I just like more depth to the romance. If you’re going to use the L word I want to feel it.
I loved this book so hard! Effie's story in the Real Death Adventures of Lorelei Bryne series tugged at my heart strings. I laughed and I cried. I shouted "why" to the book gods. Effie and her Mates characters where we'll written with complex emotions. I highly recommend this series.
We meet Effie as she's making the transition from human to vampire. She'd been brought into the supernatural world before turning into a vampire, but now it's sink or swim time as she learns the in's and out's of a life-impaired being.
The thing I love most about this series is the humor and the ride or die friendship between Effie and Lorelai. Chosen family is the best kind of family and Sterling does a great job at showing that through both the main story arcs in the Real Death Adventures.
The FMC! Effie, you flawed but amazing heroine you! There's some angst and doubt in this one, but it's handled so well and amplifies the feelings that would happen if you were killed and then turned into a vampire! I love the relationship dynamics between Eff and her guys. She's clueless to how amazing she is and the guys have to bring her out of her mindset.
The Guys! Barrett, Malin, Ryker - We've got a wolf shifter and vampires - oh my! If you've read the books before we get to know them a bit in Lorelai's story, but here they are front and center. We learn more about their backstories and how they've come together. The love and devotion they give to their mate is so compelling. I loved getting to their viewpoint chapters!
The Smut! I think Sterling has a thing for shower scenes 🚿and I AM HERE FOR IT! There are some amazing steamy scenes in this one. So much build-up and satisfaction 🔥
I've read quite a few books by Sterling Thomas already and all of her books have one thing in common: Amazing, complicated and layered characters. Especially the Lorelai Byrne series has quickly become one of my favorites because it combines the fated mates plot with a murder mystery and said amazing characters. When I got the chance to read an arc of the spin off the story, starring Lorelai's best friend Effie, there was no way I was ever gonna say no!
In this book Thomas once more does what she does best. Firstly the stars of this story are four amazing characters with each their own story. Because Thomas adds chapters from all of their points of view we get a true insight in their personalities, their histories, their struggles and their thoughts. That means that sometimes it's annoying as a reader to see characters communicate so badly, but luckily Thomas makes sure the why makes sense.
Since Effie has always been human, the guys want to be careful when it comes to confronting her with supernatural stuff. That makes that even though they all feel the attraction, they're not acting on it right away. Although in a way it can be a little frustrating to feel so much tension and to have to wait for results, I also like that build up. It gives the characters the time to get to know each other and it gives us readers the time to get to know the characters.
However, that's not the only plot Thomas has for us! This wouldn't be a Lorelai Byrne adventure without a murder mystery and Thomas really wrote us a great and very personal one! I love how the murder mystery, apart from being spectaculair and at times really sickening, brings up so many emotional memories. It's not just an exciting mystery, it's most of all a way to give the characters the chance to emotionally grow.
I really enjoyed this story, I'm so glad Effie got her own book. This is a spin off from Loralei's books and can definitely be read as a standalone, but I'd suggest reading books 1 and 2 first, to avoid any spoilers. We start with the FMC's murder, not usually what you expect at the beginning of a book! Effie had been kidnapped and her throat slit by a serial killer, and the only way to save her is to turn her into a vampire. I liked that this book was funny, it felt light-hearted but also delved into grievance and brutal deaths, and I don't know how they all meshed together, but they definitely do. There are viewpoints from all the main characters so you get to know them well, and how they feel about each other. This book has a variety of supernaturals, several fated mates, at least one serial killer on the loose and a group of friends determined to solve the mysteries whilst keeping their mates safe.
Another great read and a fantastic addition to the series. Eff Immortality is a spin-off of the Real Death Adventure of Lorelai Byrne series but can be read as a standalone. I would recommend that you check out the previous books believe me you won't get it. I really enjoyed this story, was super glad that Lorelai besties Effie got her own book. This book is so fast paced and there is so much that's going on, but relationship between Effie and her mens is the totally focus. I loved how sweet and loving her guys are and how they help Effie achieved high levels of self confidence. Don't get me wrong there were other things too that made this book a great read but since I don't like to leave spoilers I would definitely recommend that you check it out for yourself. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
This book is freaking amazing! (I didn’t read Lorelei’s books but now I’m thinking I might have to). From my understanding this book picks up where Lor’s book ends, which is with the death of Effy.
Effy chose to live, but she didn’t realize how much she would be losing in the process, her family and identity. She has a crappy track record with relationships so she’s weary to accept her mates, plus their hiding their connection!
This book is so fast paced and there is so much happening, but the relationship between Effy and her men is truly at the center.
I love her guys, but Ryker is 100% my favorite, I’m not sure if it’s the fact he’s damaged from his past and still so strong or what but I love him.
Malin and Barrett are also incredible! I’m sad this is only a stand-alone, but I’m really happy we got their HEA.
I love Effie so much, we met her first in Lorelai's books. Effie is Lorelai's best friend in the series and is mourning the loss of her best friend. That is until she's not anymore and is dragged into the supernatural world. Effie is as sassy as they come and even after what she's been through she still isn't afraid to sass others. Sadly, because of her past, she is also a little insecure too and it makes the relationship between her and her guys just that little bit harder.
Effie like Lorelai is going through big changes in this book, having to learn to accept what she now is. It's a great read and I'm so happy we got Effie's story too because she is one of the characters I really loved when reading Lorelai's books, especially her little freak out over vampires.
I can't wait to see what else is to come from these characters in the future!
This is a spin off story from the Real Adventures of Lorelai Byrne following her best friend Effie's traumatic beginning of her own paranormal life. If you enjoyed the previous series, I believe you'll enjoy Effie's adventures as well. As a new vampire, she learns to control her feeding needs with the 2 vampires who changed her and their crime fighting partner who is a werewolf. As she bonds to them through feeding from them all, she develops carnal feelings that embarrass her, not realizing they are her true mates. The real adventure starts as her relationship grows with them all and they hunt for a ripper who is trying to tear through the city leaving dead bodies in her wake. If you enjoy spicy RH books with plenty of crime fighting, I think you'll enjoy this book.
I didn’t realize going into this book that Lorelai wasn’t the main character; Effie was. What a great surprise. I guess I should have paid more attention! Anyway, I was so glad because Effie is a great character, and in this one we get to see how the events of the previous book affect her life. I absolutely adored her men, and they actually had different personalities and seemed like different people unlike some RH novels where the men seem the same and it’s hard to keep them apart…which I appreciated. Not only that, the great fun, snark, and humor abounded in this book. This could be read as a standalone, but I’d read the previous two just to get a good feel for the characters. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I've been loving the Real Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne, and this book basically fits in as 2.5 in the series, picking up immediately on the cliffhanger at the end of book 2, but focussing on Effie, rather than Lorelai. This serves two purposes - it expands the world building, specifically giving us more information on how vampires work in this world, and also allows more time to do justice to Effie and her mates than if they'd been squeezed into Lorelai's next book. This was both fun and emotional. We already knew the characters to some extent, but I loved getting to know them all better and seeing them deal with their own crises. I'm looking forward to Lorelai's final book now to see how Effie's new life fits in and how that storyline finishes up!
A great spin-off from the series The Real Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne. I loved the world building and character development in the series and this book continues that very well. The friendship between Lorelai and Effie is true and binding through all of life’s upheaval and us inspiring. The men are hot and sweet and bring the heroine to new levels of self- confidence. There’s plenty of steam as well. The FMC is believable and engaging. There’s plenty of drama and action in this story. Although it can be read as a stand-alone I recommend reading the other two books in the series as well for a more robust experience. Definitely recommend.
Effie, Lorelai’s human friend, has paid a heavy price for being friends with a supernatural but may be saved if she just gives in to the desire for the three men she has wanted. As the story progresses her consent is given, guilt starts to consume them, and figuring fact from fiction may not be the most dangerous thing they have to deal with. Sterling Thomas continues the Real Death Adventure series with her signature witty and crazy ways by pulling Effie firmly into the supernatural world.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I fell in love with Effie in Lorelai’s books and I knew that her death couldn’t be the end. I am so glad that Sterling gave her a book where she could get her happy ending and my heart is so full knowing it’s with Barrett, Ryker and Malin. I really enjoyed the emotions that this book brought out. Seeing a different side to Effie really rounded out her character. In Lor’s books Effie seems so strong but this book shows that was is seen on the surface isn’t everything. I enjoyed the banter the spice and the absolutely consuming love that this book brought for Effie and her mates. I am so excited to see more of them in Lorelai’s next book as well.
We were introduced to Effie in The Real-Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne series and fell in love with her character! Now readers will get a chance to find out more about her! Lorelai and Effie have a fantastic friendship, but since Effie is human, that causes complications when one is surrounded by supernaturals, and eventually, her life changes forever. While there is a darker side to Eff Immortality because Effie has been through a lot and is trying to get used to her new life, there are still some of those funny moments that we love from the original series. Plus, there are some great heated moments between Effie and the men who saved her. This was a wonderful spin-off to the series!
I am so glad Effie got her book. Effie is Lor's ride or die. When they are together the conversations are hilarious. They have each other's back and are absolutely #bffrelationshipgoals. I love that Ryker got some closure with his past. All her men are absolutely delicious and I breezed through this book in less than 24 hours as I just had to know what happened. My heart broke near the end, but with everything that happened to her, it was probably the best course of action. I can't wait for Lor's last book and the conclusion and hopefully the demise of the shadowhole (IYKYK). Great heartfelt read!
I discovered this Author when she published Lorelai's first book and fell in love with this world. While I love everything she has written, I am so glad to delve back into these character's. Effie is wonderfully amazing, I love the combination of humor and insecurity that she portrays. I love how her men try to make things easier on her and inadvertently push her away. A great take on Vampires. While this one is set in the same world as the other books, it can be read as a stand alone. Although, I highly recommend you read them all!
Lorelai's BFF gets her own book within this amazing series!! We find out what happens moments after she was kidnapped by the Shadow Killer in the previous book. To think that's just the start of everything! So jump on in...get comfy and prepare yourself for witty comments , steamy moments, paranormal alpha males galore, and a few big bads along the way. Plus we see our friendly neighborhood banshee pop in from time to time 😉. All in all its loads of fun!!
I was immediately drawn to this story just based off of the title alone. Eff Immortality is a spin-off from The Real-Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne.
The story starts off with a death and quickly gains traction from there. I absolutely loved Effie and how well she dealt with the turn her life took. The guys are just wonderful. They do everything they can to protect her. When the past comes back to haunt them though, can the guys protect Effie and her new life?
Loved this spin off to the original series, this centres on Effie- Lorelai's best friend. It was a great story of love and loss, not loss of love but loss of a life, a mortal life and Effie faces the same struggle Lorelai faced in shedding her old life. Goodbye mortality, Hello Immortality! There were a few oh! moments for the reader as there were a few surprises (or shocks) as the story evolved and even more O moments for Effie in some hot scenes with her mates! Can't wait for the next Lorelai book and hopefully we may catch up with Effie and her mates again if they play a part in that
This story takes off on the first page, it grabs your attention and keeps you riveted until the last page! I loved these characters and the relationship growth we get to see. I love the friendship bonds, something you don’t always see in RH books, is relationships outside the harem and this has a beautiful one,not just with Effie and Lorelai but with their men as well. I really like that and it added depth to the characters. I enjoyed the storyline and thought it was well paced and well written with a solid plot and really well fleshed out characters.
Oh my gosh I feel in love with the first two books in this series and absolutely love that Effie got her own book! It is not easy story for her. We start off after Effie joins the supernatural world and not in a way that she planned. I loved the way it was written and you get to see more for Effie's POV as she finds her mates along the way in 3 guys she had already been hitting it off with. I love the personality that was brought to this book and cannot wait to see what will happen next in this world! I highly recommend you pick up this book because it is a quick and amazing read!
I really loved Lorelai's books, so I was super excited to see Effie was getting her own story told as well. I love all of the characters because they are able to have a sense of humor during all of the stressful events that they go through. I also really enjoyed getting to see Lorelai and Effie's ride or die friendship and how it persevered through their deaths into their afterlives. I love how Effie and the guys help each other heal from their trauma and how they truly complete each other.
I was quite excited to find out that Effie was going to get her own story! In this fast paced standalone we get to see Effie come to terms with her own paranormal circumstances and finding her mates. The story ramps up when a serial killer runs rampant through the city. There are a variety of emotional and steamy moments that round out all of the action. Eff Immortality was an easy to love story and I'm excited to see what else this author will publish!
I loved Effie when she appeared in her friend Lorelai's book The Near Death Adventures of Lorelai Byrne. Effie's book didnt disappoint. Her wit, sassiness and her vulnerability came out more on this book as well as with her relationship with Ryker, Malin and Barrett. There was a genuine caring, sweetness to their dynamic. I really enjoyed Effie's book but i wished she had gotten more than one book. This book was full of fast paced action and some steamy scenarios too. I just loved it
