A Risk on Forever

Rate this book
When Matthias Phillips imagined the new caretaker for his mother with ALS, the last thing he had in mind was a gorgeous twenty-something who didn’t look like she had a day of experience in the field. However, his mother has always been stubborn, and despite his objections, she’s insistent: it’s Adelaide Samson she wants him to hire.

After losing her job, Adelaide needs a new gig to continue supporting her family, even if that means working for overprotective and rude Matthias. Once she earns his trust, though, she gets to see a whole other side of him—a funny, sweet, and sensitive side. A side she might start to like.

Feelings take hold, but soon, Adelaide must choose between helping Helen with a secret task or being honest with Matthias. Caught between the woman who feels like a second mother and the man she’s falling for, Adelaide must navigate the murky waters of a job that has started to feel like home.

Not me wishing the hero would have died with his boring ass instead of his mother …. Oh well can’t always get what we hope for 😔

This is probably one of the most boring and clean romance books I’ve read in 2021

I saw a lot of people say that this was a super emotional read for them… but I personally didn’t really feel much of a connection to any of it and the whole thing was meh at best for me.

I had a really hard time getting through this tiny little book. It was only 282 pages, and it took me 3 days to finish. I probably put it down between every single chapter, and multiple times mid-page just because there wasn’t much that was holding my attention and making me want to keep reading.

I think the story overall had a very bittersweet feel to it. You knew right from the start where the whole thing was going, but you went along for the ride anyway. — There were moments that I enjoyed and thought were funny and/or sweet - there were also some moments that I felt were kinda corny and cringy - and then there were a solid amount of moments that I found to be super boring.

But besides for that - I didn’t even really like Matthias that much. I generally love a good grumpy/broody asshole, but this one didn’t do it for me. Can’t really put my finger on why though 🤔. He only had a little sliver of time somewhere in the middle of the book that I was kinda vibing with him, but the rest of the time I just wasn’t much of a fan. He was an ass in the beginning, and he was an ass at the end. I hate the ‘I’m breaking up with you without even giving you a say in it because I have to protect you from myself’ third act breakups… and we definitely got one of those in this book, and it wasn’t even followed up by any good on page groveling… so… you know… I was just a bit disappointed…. I guess I expected a little more.

"you were an intricate part of my life, of my heart, and i was undeniably and wholeheartedly in love with you."

boring ✅ started off good, but that lasted for less than 20%

the mmc talked about another woman he used to have a sexual relationship with/works with more than once. example ⤵ this was 41% in.

'she really was a beautiful woman. she had curves for days, a great sense of style, and a killer smile.'

is there a connection between them? even a flicker? no. i skimmed most of it, even helen's boring ass letters- girl i don't care about ur stupid boring ass advice, these are grown ass people you're giving teenager advice to LOL.

if you love dual povs, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, morally grey male mc, emotional books, this is your sign to read this book.

a risk on forever follows our main character addy. addy is hopping from job to job trying to support her dad and her brother when finally she lands a job as a caregiver for a woman named helen. addy is such a strong willed, independent woman who has been through so much. she takes on the role of an adult at such a young age to support her family and make ends meet. who would have known that taking care of helen would have turned addy’s life around? here comes matthias, helen’s son. matt is a grump to the max. but he’s so loving and cares so deeply for those he loves.

i absolutely loved every second of this book. a risk on forever was amazing. the story was beautiful, the characters were so easy to love and fall in love with. im sad to have finished it. the dynamic between the love interest was so fun to read about. and the side characters were everything too🥺 i loved every aspect of this book. this is seriously a new favorite book of mine and i already want to reread. addy & matthias, you two were perfect.

this book radiates hallmark movie vibes, but in the best possible way.

“a risk on forever” is a heartwarming, loveable story. it is definitely a tear-jerker and incredibly emotional, but in a bittersweet, beautiful way. it touches on grief and loss, and moving on, with an overarching theme of the power of love and compassion.

there were so many small aspects of this book i appreciated. both protagonists were likeable, but i particularly loved following addy. she has been through so much, and i hugely admire her. getting snippets of her family life was also so rewarding, watching her mend her broken relationship with her father, and take care of her adorable little brother. i also loved the addition of helen’s notes, sprinkled into the narrative at the end of each chapter. so many small life lessons were in-cooperated, making the novel even more meaningful to me. not to mention the inclusion of several taylor swift songs, and other music references. it was such a fun add in.

it certainly wasn’t a perfect book in my opinion. matthias annoyed me a lot during the middle section of the novel, and the slow burn got a little tedious after a while. although i understand the two’s hesitation to be with each other, it didn’t make it any less frustrating, and it dragged for a little too long in my opinion. it was also just very cliche, and while i understand no book can be completely unique, a little more originality could have benefited this novel- i just felt i’d seen it all before.

but overall, i really don't want to come off too critical in this review, because it was such a genuinely amazing read. if you are looking for a heartfelt romance with depth and emotion, give this a read. N.S perkins wrote it wonderfully, and i can’t believe this is a debut! i’ll for sure be reading anything she releases in the future :)

was originally going to give this 1 star but I changed it to 2 because the book did make me cry.

I really really wanted to love this book. I went into it expecting to be completely obsessed and blown away with it and it just fell flat. The main characters had no chemistry at all and I just didn’t feel the connection. I did absolutely love helen though

Wow I loved this. I loved Addy so much. She is literally such a strong and kind hearted heroine that I just wanted to constantly give her a hug. The way she cares for her little brother and for Helen is amazing.

I loved the friendship that Addy and Helen developed through spending time together. You could tell from the beginning that Addy wasn’t just being friendly to Helen as part of her job but because she genuinely cares.

I also loved Matthias so much!!! He’s such a big grump but I can’t help but love him. Everything he did for Addy was amazing and made me love him even more!!

And can we talk about all of Helen’s letters? She’s such an amazing woman. THE WAY THIS BOOK MADE ME CRY FOR HER. I don’t think I have any tears left.

This book will always be in a special place of my heart. I lost someone to ALS. So, I kinda understand how it feels to watch your loved one getting closer to death each and every day.
To me, the soul of this book was the letters. Those are beautifully written. And the memories they made together were priceless. The chemistry between every characters were awesome.
Thanks to the author for gifting us such a wonderful experience.

This multi-layered and often angsty love story from a new-to-me author is nourishment for the soul. Missing its debut on October 5, 2021, I’m glad I caught another reader’s review that sent me hurriedly to Amazon for a one-click delivery. Better late than never -- and so glad I didn’t miss out on a really wonderful story. Perkins is an author I’ll keep on my watchlist. I’ve already added her next release to my TBR list, The Infinity Between Us, scheduled for publication on May 24, 2022.

Not all love is the same. And this book demonstrates a clear distinction between love for family and friends and that of romantic love. But never doubt that this is a deep and moving love story from start to finish.

The lyrical writing and a tidal wave of raw emotions drew me in quickly, along with the delectable mix of characters and the complexities of love that embrace some of life’s most profound moments. It didn’t take long before I fell completely in love with this amazing cast of characters, each of whom are broken in their own way.

I’ll keep the details to myself – read the blurb, don’t read spoilers -- and then read the book for yourself. It’s worth the journey.

There are some truly golden moments filled with priceless personal touches that are memorable. With a bittersweet ending that deserves high praise and a beautiful happily-ever-after epilogue, readers are assured a satisfying read that ends on a high note and a sigh.

If you love...
- forbidden trope
- boss/employee romance
- so much angst
Then this book is for you!

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. There were all the emotions. We got spice and so much angst in it also. I cried, laughed, blushed, and smiled so hard during this book.

I loved all the characters in this book. Each held such a powerful role in this book. If you loved Miles from Ugly Love, the main character Matt is also a pilot and gives off the same vibes as Miles. I'll admit he did annoy me a bit just like Miles did in Ugly Love. But I easily fell in love with him. He may be a bit of an assh*le in the beginning but after knowing why I can't help but love him even more. His protectiveness is his love language.

Helen. I miss her so much. She was one of the best characters in the book. The letters made me cry and I will also listen to her advice. "Fight, tooth, and nail, for the people you love,".

There's no amount of words that can express the emotions and feelings I felt in this book. I can't wait for you guys to read this book.

Thank you to N.S. Perkins for this amazing ARC!

*Be prepared to have your heart strings pulled*

“Because I knew you would never let me go. And I need you to let me go.” -I’m freaking sobbing internally.

“I would’ve let you break my heart a thousand times over, just for the chance of getting more of the moments of pure happiness I felt when I was with you. If you’d just given me something, I would’ve given you everything.”

My honest thoughts are I enjoyed this book very
much so everyone was for the most part was very likable (addy and Louis dad aggravated me for a moment but he made his comeback and I’m no longer irritated with him lol)
Especially Helen and addy relationship is my fav in this book
They made this book good alone. My heart aches after reading this but it feels worth it in the end atm also wanna say I appreciate the fact that it wasn’t a instant get together that we got to see that sometimes you’re not ready for something healthy just yet until you are idk ngl he was kinda boring.😭

Jesus Christ, I’m throwing hands right now and crying as I write this review. This book was PAIN 😭😭This was such a bitter sweet story. The dual povs, the letters, the grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers was everything. Like dear lord take my soul now. There was so much angst and the chemistry between addy and Matthias was truly spectacular. There were so many emotions; happiness, sadness(most of the time) there was funny moments and moments that left you in total awe. Matthias reminded me so much of miles Archer from ugly love with the whole pilot occupation and grumpy ass.
Helen was my favorite character yet, i cried during that scene uk. I loved how she brought Matt and addy together and her letters to them broke my heart into pieces.
The struggles addy went through also, I just wanted to hug her at times. She was there for everyone but no one took care of her. What a strong woman.

Louis and her dad n Stella, all the side characters were perfectly written.

The song choice at the wedding and his apology was magnificent n so magical.
The story covers; depression, loss of a loved one, chronic illness.

At this point, I don’t think I’ll stop talking about the LETTERS.

The epilogue and that letter there broke my heart more. I kinda wished we saw where they had a child and they named her Helen. I felt like I would die peacefully if that happened.

The fact that this is N.S Perkins debut novel and her writing is so magnificent is truly inspiring. Hats off to her 👏 I got a bit of Colleen Hoover and Mariana zapata from her writing.

This kinda reminded me of the film me before you expect she is taking care of his mom instead of him.

I totally recommend you guys to read this.

It does have a hea

i finished this book a little bit ago & it seriously took me until now to be able to process the beauty of it. Let’s start with Helen. Her life tips are soo eye opening and I hope that if for nothing else, the few Helen quotes I added to this post convince you to read this! Although there is an EPIC grumpyxsunshine love story in here as well. The way Matthias is around Adelaide’s little brother is my WEAKNESS. I am so grateful I had my girls @mks.library & @_ellieslibrary to chat about this with!

I wept and smiled and just absolutely, absolutely adored everything about this book!

summary: adelaide samson has been through a lot in the past few hours and becomes the caregiver to her younger brother, Lou & her widowed father. After being let go from her job, she is desperate to find a new gig to continue supporting her family. Enter Matthias Phillips: hot and protective son of Helen who suffers from ALS. Although Matthias is against hiring Adelaide, Helen forms a wonderful friendship with her and she gets the job. Overtime, she meets a new side of Matthias who she begins falling for but Helen’s health is declining and this leads to things becoming extremely messy.

I absolutely love this book. Adelaide is such a strong woman who has been through so much in her life. She has had a terrible loss in her life and is now taking care of her little brother and her dad. Adelaide takes on this new, much needed job as caregiver for a woman named Helen who is sick.
Helen is the sweetest lady ever and also loves to play match maker with Adelaide and her son, Matthias.
Matthias is the grumpy, super protective son who doesn’t trust easily and who sees Adelaide as someone who isn’t the best fit to care for his mom.
The relationships in this book seem so genuine and are written perfectly. My FAVORITE is when Adelaide’s little brother is around in scenes. Seeing Matthias interact with her brother is swoon worthy.
This book has ups and downs, heartache, betrayal, amazing life lessons. It has love. I highly recommend reading this!

N.S. Perkins, I love you so much. At this point, just take all my money. She deserves the world and nothing less for the way her books make me feel.

Attention all Emily Henry lovers, this one is for you!!! “A Risk on Forever” was everything and more. I think I’ve never finished a book this fast in my life like I didn’t stop until I was done. I had the biggest smile on my face for the first half of the book until she decided to rip my heart out and smash it. Soul crushing and heartbreaking and gut wrenching and desolating, that’s what this was. I was aching for those characters!! I could actually FEEL my heart hurting, like literally. And don’t even get me started on those damn letters!! Had my eyes all swollen and red. I’d sue the author if it wasn’t for those final chapters and the immense joy and peace they brought me. Anyways, I’ve now finished all of N.S. Perkins books and she just became an instant-buy author for me. I NEED MORE

Both of the MCs had personal issues that they need to overcome, making them stronger characters because of it (which I love).
Addy (the female MC) is amazing. Constantly she is putting her personal feelings and needs aside in order to be strong for others, especially her family. Her mother-like relationship with her little brother was touching, always putting his needs before her own.
Matthias (male MC) loves his mother so much. Their relationship was so cute to read about. Helen, Matthias's mother, is the epitome of a wise woman. I loved the way she was written, and I absolutely loved the letters after each chapter. They not only had a point in the story but also gave us more back story into her life.
This is a slow burn, enemies to lovers, and grumpy/sunshine romance.
