Done waiting for the one, Dena is pregnant and on her own - on purpose. But then a gorgeous, sad-eyed songwriter checks in to a room at her inn. Micah, unable to write since he lost his wife, finds inspiration in Dena’s determination to be a mom. One snowflake-speckled kiss and he’s a goner. But Dena is afraid to believe that a rock star could fall for a cookie-cutter small-town girl like her.

DNF @70%

The one trope I probably hate the most is “I can’t love you (or you can’t love me) for *stupid illogical reason*. And this book has it happening in both of the sister’s burgeoning relationships and is still being painfully dragged out 70% into the book, so I have to stop here. I was hoping for a cute Christmas story to put me in a holiday mood but instead I just want to shake some reason into fictional characters, so that’s a fail.

Others have liked this though so maybe I’m just being a grinch.

If you're looking for a too-good-to-be-true story neatly wrapped up like a gift, you'll likely enjoy this one. The story takes place in Wishing Tree, where the residents are committed to making the Christmas season a special time of the year. From the town's traditions, to the shops' names, and the holiday decorations there's truly a magical feel in this town during Christmas time.

For me, this story fell flat. I've enjoyed other books by this author (most recently The Stepsisters), but this one was just different. I kept trying to figure out what it was about this story that wasn't working for me. I think it was just too predictable and had too much going on. There's wedding vows renewal planning, second chance romance, and new relationship after giving up finding love. There are also other storylines going on, which I won't expand on to avoid spoilers. Pretty much every character in the story had something to overcome, including the two dogs in the story. All that made for a long, repetitive story with a scattered plot.

Overall, I thought the story was ok. I liked it enough that I'm curious about the next book in the series. This story was packed with storylines and the ending was abrupt, but I assume that's the set-up of the next book.

Sisters Dena and Regina (Reggie) Somerville are romantics at heart but haven’t been very successful at finding it for themselves. Reggie was engaged one day and her fiancé called it off the next evening. Dena’s done just about everything to find “the one” and finally gave up waiting to start her own family. She’s now pregnant (barely) after going the in vitro route. Their parents have decided to have the wedding they couldn’t do when they first married and are planning a big celebration at Christmas. Reggie’s back home from Seattle for the first time since the fiasco of her engagement a year ago. Dena, who’s a teacher and owns the Wishing Tree B & B, had to reveal her pregnancy early because she’s plagued with morning sickness at all times of the day. But, they’re all in to help their parents have a fabulous wedding, even when Reggie’s first love is now back in town and a handsome musician shows up at the B & B to distract Dena.

If you’re looking for a story to catapult you into the holiday spirit, this is the one! From the charming town, the delightful Somerville sisters and their friends, the hysterical antics of two fur babies and the two men who provide a romantic angle, I got carried away to a happy place. I was a little concerned that one of the romances might eclipse the other but that just didn’t happen. Reggie’s reconnection with her high school “first” Toby Newkirk was just as compelling as Dena’s slow developing attraction to Micah Ruiz who’s the lead singer of a famous rock band (yes, she was clueless about them). They worked well together, beautifully woven into the fabric of this multilayered story.

I listened to the book and am loving the tone the narrator chose for the story. She really captured the lightness of Reggie & Dena who are the type of women I’d like to have as friends. There are serious moments as their relationships are not without issues but they deal with them honestly and maturely. I enjoyed everything about this one and can’t wait to return to Wishing Tree as there are a plethora of secondary characters I’m anxious to see at center stage.

The Christmas Wedding Guest by Susan Mallery is the first full length novel in the contemporary romance Wishing Tree series. There is also a prequel novella already available in the series and as with a lot of contemporary romance each book changes the main characters in the story with the setting of Wishing Tree, Washington being the common theme. This means that each book of the series can be read in any order or as a standalone if choosing to do so.

The Christmas Wedding Guest is a two for the price of one contemporary romance set at Christmas time, of course. The story features the Somerville sisters, Reggie and Dena, who both are in search of love. Reggie is back after going through as what she thinks of as the world’s shortest engagement and Dena is pregnant but without a partner to help.

Both sisters are helping to plan their parent’s vow renewal ceremony as the holidays approach. Reggie unexpectedly finds herself crossing paths with Toby who was her first love before she had left and sees those old flames are still burning. Dena on the other hand had given up on waiting for a man for her chance to become a mother but now that she’s pregnant she finds herself falling for Micah, a guest staying at her inn.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical going into The Christmas Wedding Guest since it was going to be following not one but two couples. My concern was how would it have time to introduce so many characters and make me engaged in not only their lives but their new relationships. Well, concern flew out of the window pretty darn quickly as I sat down with this lovely tale. I really did enjoy both relationships and was completely onboard with not only the characters but found the setting and story just lovely too. Definitely a holiday winner and I’ll be interested in reading the rest of the Wishing Tree series in the future.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I'm sorry, but is there really a town that celebrates the first snowfall like Wishing Tree?? Because if there is, then I want to move there!! I love snow so this made me happy! The descriptions were perfect and made me feel like I was there (even though it's like 80 degrees where I am right now). I was also happy that there weren't any characters that I disliked. This author has a thing about making one mom a bad person. There was mention of a bad dad in the story but he was already gone so it was great! 🤣🤣 The sisters and their romances were believable and enjoyable. The pup was my favorite character! I love dogs and believe that they are great protectors. I loved this story and can't wait to visit this town again!!

THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING GUEST (Wishing Tree Book #1) by Susan Mallery is an enchanting small town Christmas contemporary romance story times two featuring two sisters and their very different paths to HEA. I am very excited that this is going to be a series and I cannot wait for more from Wishing Tree.

The Somerville sisters are excited about their parents wedding to renew their vows.

Dena Somerville is a teacher at the local Wishing Tree elementary school besides owning the small town’s B&B. Being financially secure and never having been lucky in love, Dena decides to have a baby on her own. Micah Ruiz has come to town for the holidays to visit his ex-band mate and try to get inspiration for his song writing. When he meets Dena, he is intrigued by this woman’s strength to have a baby on her own and he is falls for her with their first kiss, but Dena is afraid to believe that a rock star could fall for a small-town girl.

Regina “Reggie” Somerville has returned after a year away to help her mother with her wedding. Being her own boss and having a job she can do from anywhere she moves back to her parents’ home for the holidays with her rescued Great Dane, Belle. She is surprised to learn her first love and high school sweetheart is back in Wishing Tree with an eight-year-old son. Toby finds he is just as attracted to Reggie as he was before he left town as an eighteen-year-old. Reggie wants to give their relationship a second try, but Toby has been hurt in the past and has difficulty trusting. Can Reggie and the holidays work their special magic to get Toby to love again?

Ms. Mallery’s writing wraps you up in the story like a cozy blanket that you do not want to leave until “The End”. I feel like I should be able to find Wishing Tree on the map and become friends with all the town’s occupants. I appreciate that the sisters are very forth right and honest. They were each dealing with different relationship paths and men, but their stories were believable with the help of family and their circle of friends. These are mature relationships with realistic problems and dialogue. There are no sex scenes in either storyline, but there is plenty of caring, love and romance. I am looking forward to reading about more romances in Wishing Tree and checking in with these two couples again.

I highly recommend this Christmas contemporary HEA times two and this author!

Reggie and Dena Somerville are sisters from the small town of Wishing Tree. Reggie, however, hasn't been back to visit since her broken engagement, which lasted all of two days, when her finance proposed on a Friday and broke it off on a Sunday. But since Reggie and Dena's parents are renewing their vows, she finds herself back in town, the scene of her humiliation. Dena doesn't have the best track record with love herself, so she's taken matters into own hands. She's gotten pregnant on her own; she's also a teacher at the local school and runs the B&B handed down by her grandmother. Once back in Wishing Tree, Reggie gets stuck working with Toby, her high school boyfriend, on a holiday charity project. Meanwhile, Dena finds herself drawn to the famous singer who has checked into her B&B. Can the Somerville sisters find it in their hearts to love again?

This is a very sweet and charming holiday romance. The town of Wishing Tree exudes a lovely festive air, a cross between Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls and a Hallmark set, and I couldn't help but find myself rooting for our couples. Sure, Toby frustrated me sometimes (he's a single dad with some particular quirks), but these characters were personable, flawed, and strong. Perhaps the most lovable was Reggie's dog Belle, who was a force to be reckoned with, followed by Toby's sweet young son.

The story is repetitive at times and seemed a bit uneven--I couldn't tell if the author was going for cute or erotic at points, and it was a bit jarring--but overall this was a fun and merry read. I would have liked an epilogue, but I am hoping that since this is the beginning of a series that maybe we will see some of these characters again. I would definitely read the next book. 3.5 stars, rounded to 4 here.

I received a copy of this book from Harlequin and Netgalley in return for an unbiased review.

What a wonderful Christmas romance story!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Susan Mallery has the magic touch when it comes to writing beautiful stories. Her creativity and ability to write with touching emotion that tugs on the heartstrings always leaves me with a smile.
The story combines so many pieces that just make you happy. From celebrations for the first snowfall, Mom & Dad getting married again, two romances brewing at the same time, and amazing characters that you just wish could be your own friends. Mallery pours on the sugar and spice to bring us a wonderful, warm, and witty romance for the ages.
It is hard to find a romance that covers everything, but Mallery seems to have conquered it. Even the dog is a dream!
Do you want an amazing gift this holiday? Read this one!
I loved it!
The Christmas Wedding Guest, by Susan Mallory is the first in a new series and is a charming, swoon-worthy Christmas romance. This light-hearted novel is absolutely delightful and exactly what I hope for in a seasonal story. It’s got depth and humor, endearing characters you want to befriend, and a town I’d gladly move to without hesitation. And yet, even with its festive tone, there’s substance to the characters and a depth to the story that makes it meaningful. I love the sisterly bond, the town traditions and the canine companions, along with the more difficult topics of abuse, abandonment and the struggles of single-parenting.
A Christmas Wedding Guest is like a fairytale with all the happily-ever-after feels, but with an added dose of realism mixed in to make it more down-to-earth. This story was a joy to read and I eagerly look forward to the next in the series!
WOW OH WOW! The Christmas Wedding Guest by Susan Mallery was absolutely amazing!! This is a series, Say You'll Stay is book 0.5 , and The Christmas Wedding Guest is book 1. I adored all the characters in this beautifully written story. The Christmas Wedding Guest will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride, I was laughing one minute and a sobbing mess the next minute all on the same page. You will instantly fall in love with the characters, and want to visit Wishing Tree Washington. Susan Mallery needs to make this into a Hallmark movie.
Reggie Somerville returns to Wishing Tree to help out with her parents wedding and to spend the holidays with her family. Reggie returns to Wishing Tree with her Great Dane Belle who is just the sweetest dog. Leigh and Vince, Reggie's parents have a dog, Burt who Belle just can't face because he's always biting at her ankles. Reggie runs into her ex-boyfriend, Toby. Toby and Reggie dated back in high school, but when rumors were spread Reggie broke up with Toby, and Toby fled Wishing Tree. Toby now has a son, Harrison who Reggie helps with a project to knit hats and scarves for children who are homeless. Reggie returns to Wishing Tree after a terrible divorce with her ex-husband Jake.
Dena Somerville owns the Bed and Breakfast in Wishing Tree. Dena is a third grade teacher at the local elementary school, and a single pregnant mom to be. When Micah, a rock songwriter checks into one of the rooms at the Bed and Breakfast where Dena works, she is at a loss for words, Dena thinks Micah is absolutely handsome. Micah is grieving the loss of his wife and their unborn son who were killed by a drunk driver, bond Dena and Micah closer together, but Dena is afraid to fall in love, again. Micah is unable to write songs again after losing his wife, but inspiration wins him over after he finds out Dena's determination to be a mom.
Favorite Quotes:
“Sarcasm becomes you.” Reggie raised her glass. “It’s a classic look that flatters all of us.”
“This is why I never had children,” Ursula grumbled. “First you throw up, then they throw up. It’s too many fluids for me… you can’t drink and you get hemorrhoids. I remind my friends of that when they try to convince me God’s a woman. There’s no way God’s a woman.”
She planned to stay awake so she could remember every moment. She would need the details for when she was eighty and reliving the past.
My Review:
This is a pleasant holiday story to crank up the seasonal reading binge with liberal sprinklings of wit and humor, cute animals, family drama, small-town living, community Christmas traditions, and contemporary romance. The storylines were engaging and easy to follow, the pace was slow and leisurely, and the characters were endearing and likable. Everything I have come to expect and enjoy in a Susan Mallery book. And this one kicks off a new series based in a small town near Seattle, which has definite standards and expectations for the holiday season. I look forward to returning there but only on my Kindle, as I am a tropical gal who avoids snow and cold weather.
THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING GUEST is the second book in the Wishing Tree series and I can’t believe how quickly it was to read this funny and romantic story. THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING GUEST will surely pull at your heart strings and make it very hard for you to put down. If you are like me, you won’t be able to stop until you know what happens to all of these beautiful people in Wishing Tree. Not to mention all the awesome kids and loving dogs in this heart warming story! Susan Mallery sure knows how to get her readers in the holiday spirit.
Dena is oh so lovable that you can’t help but cheer her on as she tries to figure out her place in Wishing Tree, Washington. THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING GUEST deals with so many different emotions that one minute I was giggling and the next tearing up. Reggie, Dena’s sister, sees her first love again after many years, Toby, and darn it if the chemistry doesn’t kick in all over again! I just love second-chance romances, and Toby and Reggie really pulled at my heart. The pages of this nearly perfect book are filled with family, love, and second chances. Maybe Dena and Reggie really need to rethink their feelings of giving up on finding love. Oh and for the record, I’m calling dibs on Micah! He is such a big hearted, loving, and caring man!!
Reggie is only supposed to be back in town for her parents. They are renewing their wedding vows, but the more time she spends with Toby, she realizes the harder it is going to be to leave him behind. Make yourself a yummy hot drink, get your favorite blanket and get on the couch. THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING GUEST is an awesome way to spend the afternoon or evening. I’m so excited to continue with the Wishing Tree series and learn more about my new found friends. Once you start THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING GUEST you won’t be able to put it down and will find yourself cheering for Dena and Micah as well as Toby and Reggie, as they try to navigate their way through a very different and unique situation. Susan Mallery will pull you in from the very first page and never let you go! They need to make this series into a Hallmark movie!
A new Susan Mallery series is always cause for excitement for me and I have to say this one is off to a strong start. You have the cutest little town with some zany traditions that everyone takes seriously, TWO romances in this installment, and heartfelt storyline set around the holidays. Need I say more?! Ok fine, it also has the authors trademark humor and wit, she always writes these endearing characters with a great sense of humor, you know the kind of people that you wish you could be friends with for real? Those kind. There’s also super cute kids, super cute dogs and a supporting cast of characters that added so much to an already engaging read. When I’m looking for a holiday read I want something that will bring the season to life and also make me feel warm and fuzzy by the end and this delivered. I’ve also taken to listening to most of the authors books because I really enjoy Tanya Eby’s narration, she has a delightful voice and she brings some added charm to the book. Definitely recommend adding this one to your December TBR it was lovely.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
The Christmas Wedding Guest by Susan Mallery is the first book in the Wishing Tree series. If you are looking for heartwarming and swoon worthy holiday romance set in a small town, then The Christmas Wedding Guest will make the perfect addition to your reading list. This latest offering from Susan Mallery features two sisters, who while planning their parents’ renewal of vows ceremony, discover love.
I am late in discovering the greatness of Susan Mallery, this being the third book of hers I have read. Based on experience with the two books read prior to this one, I expected an enjoyable story and she didn’t disappoint.
I had a wonderful time visiting the quaint town of Wishing Tree. A town where the residents celebrate the first snowfall. Everything about The Christmas Wedding Guest was awesome. The characters, the romance, the setting, the writing and let me not forget the dogs.
The Christmas Wedding Guest introduces two sisters, Dena, who tire of searching for Mr. Right and ending up with Mr. Wrong and Regina, whose fiancée proposed and dumped her in the space of one weekend. Dena gave up looking for the one went and got pregnant on her own terms. But then a gorgeous musician/songwriter, staying at the bed-and-breakfast Dena operates, will prove to her that love comes knocking when you least expect it. One year after the breaking of her engagement. Reggie returns home to help in the planning of her parents’ renewal of vows. After an encounter with her high school sweetheart, she discovered he still owned the key to her heart. However, circumstances from the past threaten to ruin the possibility of a second chance at love.
Mallery created a feel good romance, which I enjoyed from start to finish. The story touched on abuse. It played a role in the decision made by Reggie’s love interest. A decision, which I understood the reason for it being made, however I expected it to change because of his past with Reggie.
Micah, Dena’s love interest will made me swoon. He had his share of loss, but knew he had a second chance at love with Dena. I loved how he treated her, especially when she experienced bouts of nausea because of her pregnancy. Although it did not take away from the overall story, I found the handling of  drama introduced near to the end disappointing. The initiator of the drama and the underlying issue were not addressed.
In The Christmas Wedding Guest Mallery delivered the perfect story to get you in the mood for the holiday season with two swoon worthy romances. It’s a wonderful story of second chances, healing and love. It  will make you laugh, shed a few tears, and have you believing in happily ever after.
This may have been ok if I was reading it. But listening to it the narrator is so one-note, no real emotion as she reads, the story is all over the place, and I cannot keep all the men Reggie and Dena talk to/date. So I am DNFing this book. I don't do this very often, but Maybe I will pick up as the actual book later and see if it gets better.
I have read all of Mallery's books and I love a great winter read. So I was happy to curl up with this little gem. The cast of characters were so much fun, the romance was great and I loved the dogs.
This should be high on your to be read pile. Such a fun read, I highly recommend it.
It's been so long since I read a Susan Mallery that I forgot just how good they made me feel. It's like being wrapped up in a lovely warm blanket in front of a fire. They are also full of heart and funny.
This one takes place in yet another themed town (think Happily Inc). However, this town is in my home state of Washington and not California. A very quirky town where you can't put up snowman decorations until after the first snowfall (which doesn't count unless it's been snowing 15 minutes).
We have two romances (three if you count the parents renewing their wedding vows), a nasty ex, an apologetic ex, a second chance romance, and two dogs. Much fun is had.
Dena and Reggie Somerville are two sisters that have given up on love. For Dena, Mr. Right never showed up, so she has decided to become a single mom, and with the use of medical intervention she will be having a child. She is a schoolteacher and will gladly finish out the school year before the baby arrives. For Reggie, she was engaged but he quickly called it off.
Now her parents are renewing their vows so she is back in town. The fact that Toby, who was her first love, is back in town is a bit disconcerting. However, it doesn't take either of them long to realize that they still have a connection. What about Dena? Well, there is a songwriter staying at the inn that her family runs and they also have a connection. Is it possible that the two sisters might find their chance at love after all?
Both Toby and Micah have their own stories and baggage that come right along with them, but Reggie and Dena soon find that their lives will indeed change. Love is in the air for both of them.
Reggie still feels a measure of pain from when she and Toby broke up but the two of them are working together on a holiday project while she is in town. Meanwhile, it soon becomes clear as to why Micah might find drawing close to Dena becoming a problem.
This story about finding love in a holiday season was quite enjoyable. The story was very touching and very sweet. I loved how the story went back and forth to both couples and how they find their path to happily ever afters. I wanted so much for them to find love and they did, as this is a romance.
I love that this book is the first in a new series. The town of Wishing Tree is quite charming and I cannot wait to see other couples and their stories.
Many thanks to HQN and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
This was a wonderful story set in Wishing Tree about two sisters, finding love. There were ups and downs, but in the end, everyone ended up with the right person. Reggie and Dena were both wonderful characters, and I enjoyed reading about their lives together. This is the first in a trilogy, but certainly stands alone.
¡Quisiera visitar Wishing Tree en navidad!
•Esta destinada a ser un descargo personal no para que alguien más lea pero si lo haces y te ofende, me disculpo porque sé lo que es que te guste un libro y otros lo critiquen
💝The Christmas Wedding Guest de Susan Mallery serie Wishing Tree libro 1
Argumento:
Las hermanas Somerville creen en el amor, pero han perdido la fe en que les sucederá.
Reggie no ha estado en casa desde el fin del compromiso más corto del mundo. Cuando sus padres deciden renovar sus votos, ella mejora su brillo para ayudar con la boda de Navidad.
Inesperadamente, Toby, su primer amor, también está de regreso, y la chispa entre ellos brilla tan intensamente como siempre. En el espíritu de la temporada, ¿dejarán atrás las heridas del pasado y recibirán juntos el Año Nuevo?
Cansada de esperar al único, Dena está embarazada y sola, a propósito. Pero luego un hermoso compositor de ojos tristes se registra en una habitación en su posada.
Micah, incapaz de escribir desde que perdió a su esposa, encuentra inspiración en la determinación de Dena por ser mamá.
Un beso salpicado de copos de nieve y ella está acabada. Pero Dena tiene miedo de creer que una estrella de rock podría enamorarse de una chica de pueblo pequeño como ella.
A medida que se acerca la boda de Navidad, estas dos hermanas podrían desenvolver el regalo más preciado de todos: el amor.
No se pierda The Summer Getaway de Susan Mallery, donde una mujer descubre la belleza en el caos en una historia emocionante y conmovedora sobre los hilos que mantienen unida a la familia.
Mí humilde opinión:
🎄Este es mí primer libro de la señora Mallery y la verdad me pareció una lectura ideal navideña con una portada maravillosa!
El libro podría asimilarse a una película de las muchas de Hallmark con temática navideña, predecible y ligera, pero a mí no me importó porque tenía giros entretenidos, momentos dulces y sin drama innecesario que es lo que busco y me gusta para leer en estas épocas.
Me gustaron las hermanas Dena y Reggie Somerville. Eran personajes agradables. Ambas independientes y con personalidades distintas. Me gustaba la dinámica familiar y que se unieran para preparar la renovación de votos de los padres. Se merecían una segunda oportunidad en el amor y vaya si la tuvieron! Micah y Toby eran perfectos para ellas y el desarrollo romántico era lindo aunque me dejó queriendo más de las parejas.
Tengo que mencionar a Belle, por favor! Adoré a la gran danesa!
Estaba tan enamorada de Wishing Tree y todo el ambiente festivo en el libro que yo quería visjar a esa pequeña ciudad para pasar mis navidades allí, invitaba a eso.
Disfruté mucho esta cálida lectura navideña y espero leer más libros de la autora.🎄
This book was part of reading books out of my comfort zone. While the story wasn’t horrible, I really struggled through it and it took so much longer to finish than normal for me. I wanted to DNF it so many times. I was not interested in the story at all and couldn’t wait for it to end. This book would probably be better rated by someone who enjoys romance books, however it’s unfortunately not my cup of tea.
Three and a half stars.
An enjoyable if rather predictable story, mainly because I liked the characters. Reggie has not been back to her home town of Wishing Tree since the disaster of her short lived engagement to Jake. But she returns to help her parents plan the elaborate wedding they had missed out on when eloped years before. Toby, Reggie’s teenage sweetheart till he betrayed her, is also In Wishing Tree. What will that mean for Reggie?
Reggie’s sister, Dena, is fed up with waiting for Mr Right and has elected to have a baby on her own. When famous singer and songwriter Micah stays at her inn, Dena is attracted, but it’s all too late for romance, isn’t it.?
While I mostly enjoyed this the way Belle, the Great was treated and depressed up as a flower girl etc was just too over the top for this reader.
Bruiloft in het wit ~ Susan Mallery
Harlequin Boeken, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Als je, net als ik, gek bent op zoetsappige kerst films die zich afspelen in een idyllisch Amerikaans dorpje, bomvol heerlijke kerst tradities en een verhaallijn die smeekt om een happy end, dan beloof ik dat je van dit verhaal zult genieten! En Belle, de Deense dog van Reggie, is wat mij betreft absoluut de ster van de show. Een heerlijk boek om mee op de bank te kruipen, naast de kerstboom, met een grote mok chocolade melk ♡
The Christmas Wedding Guest by Susan Mallery was published last week, 30/09/2021 and already it has made a pretty impressive mark on the Christmas reading market. We were lucky enough to be sent a copy of this one by the publishers and are proud to be part of the blog tour tomorrow.
Dena and Reggie are sisters from a small, quirky town called Wishing Tree. Wishing Tree sounds like the kind of place I want to live. It’s cosy and community centric, it’s also completely Christmas mad!! They have rules and rituals regarding when things can happen, what you have to do, who you have to help etc etc and it all adds to the charm of this beautifully written festive read from a new-to-me author.
When Reggie comes home for the holidays, after a long absence, she doesn’t anticipate her teenage sweetheart being back in town as well. Things ended badly for them and when she starts to have feelings for Toby, her head starts spinning.
Dena on the other hand, has total control of her life – she has recently decided to have a baby, by herself, as she doesn’t need a man to follow her dreams. Or so she believed…. when Micah – a hunky ex rock start turns up to stay at her B&B she starts having second thoughts about giving up on love.
So with the two sisters working their way through their respective tangled love lives, we get to enjoy the back and forth, the Christmas atmosphere and of course the secret star of the show – Belle. Reggie’s dog is in practically every chapter and wears the cutest little doggy outfits 🙂
I read this one really quickly and it has that kind of heartwarming feeling you get when you read any festive book. It makes you want Christmas to hurry up and arrive, and everything that goes with it. I’m a hardcore thriller girl myself, but I branch out for festive reads about this time of year. There’s something so cosy and comforting about reading a Christmas novel, tucked up in bed with a hot choc.
I can 100% recommend this book to get you in the mood for the best time of year. Read it now to kick start the merriment.
1.5 still deciding if I should just give it 1 star 🤔 Absolutely no plot whatsoever, no character development, and unnecessarily long. Not to mention the awful narration performance.
When the Somerville sisters get the message that their parents want to renew their wedding vows at Christmas, Reggie comes home to Wishing Tree. She left after her short engagement ended and she needed to get away. She is very successful and keeps busy. She returns home to help with the planning and to spend time with her sister, Dena. Dena is a teacher, runs a B&B and is a single woman who chose to have a child alone, giving up on love. Dena is nearing the end of her pregnancy and is tired of people telling her she will never find a husband now. What Reggie wasn't ready for when she returns home is that her highschool boyfriend, who she still loves, will also be home in Wishing Tree.
This was a wonderful story. We have so many great characters who I fell in love with. The two male characters who become important to the Somerville sisters were well written and developed. Micah is a singer/songwriter who is hoping a snowy Christmas season will give him inspiration to write a new song. He does get that inspiration, but it is from a certain teacher. As Dena and Micah spend more time together they help each other heal, trust and love again. Toby, is a single father, entrepreneur and all round great guy. He has some secrets that have cause him not to trust again, and those walls need to be broken down. Toby's son and Reggie's dog steal the show for me. I love them both, especially as they bring Toby and Reggie together. This is a story of family, friendship, grief, secrets, second chances, love and Christmas. I did a read/listen and the audiobook was narrated by Tanya Eby. There were times I enjoyed her narration, and other times it grated on me a bit. Overall, she did an okay job giving voice to the various characters. I recommend this lovely Christmas story and am sure that it will make you smile. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.
Реална оценка: 2.5★
Книжката е приятна, ненатоварваща и съвсем мъничко коледна (нещо не ми донесе празнично настроение).
Но защо, под ягодите, основната тема на любовните отношения е "Не мога да имам връзка с теб, защото..." и тук е изпльокана някаква безумна и безсмислена причина.
Редовно в романтичните романа се използва "драма" в този стил...
