The second book in a brand new Mountain Man adventure series from D.M. Haggard!
Wilder Hawk, half Apache, half Anglo, and all mountain man, can’t wait to get back to his beloved Rockies. As part of his quest to connect with his long-dead father, whose first name he bears, he travels to “the land of yellow stone,” a place of wonder and mystery. The trek from Kansas to Wyoming brings him face to face with friendly and hostile Indian tribes, bandits, and other challenges, including a confrontation at Fort Laramie and restoring two lost children to their family’s wagon train.
When he finally reaches the Yellowstone region, it’s everything he imagined. At a crystal-blue lake not far from the geysers and hot springs, he gains an unusual companion—a hawk, his totem bird, injured in a fight with an eagle. A chance encounter with a fellow mountain man brings friendship and sorrow, but points Wilder toward his next adventure—a journey all the way to the Great Water, the Pacific Ocean.
D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.
Hawk proves himself to be able to meet each new challenge head on, and his unique ability to make friends is unsurpassed as he travels throughout the old western frontier! He is prepared to meet any challenges head on and goes out of his way to help the innocent!
Another five star masterpiece that fills your reading pleasure from beginning to end! Hawk handles each new encounter with whatever force is necessary to accomplish his current situation! He makes friends with those responding to his acts of kindness, but stands tall when handling those responsible for their injustice to others! Mr. Haggard's uncanny ability to bring forthright storylines successfully certainly manages to maintain your undivided attention immediately and never lets you go until the final paragraph has been completed!Too, his outstanding descriptive character selections are unsurpassed in their ongoing commanding assignments throughout the entire series of unending excitement! Certainly recommend this compassionately entertaining revelation of realistically renditions of how I often perceived our old American West was finally tamed! Regardless of your reading pleasure you will find yourselves completely engrossed in Hawk's ongoing excursions, as the 's descriptive rendition of each and every exciting episode will definitely appease anyone's desired expectations from cover to cover! You will be the loser, if you don't follow Hawk, and his associates throughout this perfect rendition of unending exciting adventures!!!😃
Blood Trail pushes Wilder Hawk into even tougher territory as he fights to protect the Jicarilla Apaches after their escape from Bosque Redondo. The stakes are high, the action is steady, and the historical setting feels authentic. While the pace can be intense, it’s a strong and engaging addition to the series that keeps Wilder’s journey compelling.

Both volumes were good. Had a strong character and great adventures. Strong but willing to help other people in his adventures. Can't wait to read more from this author.
An exceptionally well written mountain man story with very descriptive passages about a half apache half anglo on a quest through the Rocky Mountains for his fathers spirit. Great book! I would highly recommend it!
As I have said, I enjoy mountain man books. This one is no different but each story, while different based on the writers mind, all tell a basic story of life in the western world.
Interesting guide read. Wilder Hawk is a likable character who seems way more mature than his youthful age. Good read for anyone that enjoys an epic adventure without all the nauseating sex and foul language associated with most creative works these days.
