Hiding under the calm and proper façade is a fierce warrior and protector.

It is dislike at first sight between Caelan Ross and Glynis Macneil. She thinks him too stuffy and English-acting, and he thinks her too wild and without regard for propriety. The attraction that simmers beneath the surface is maddening to both of them.

When Glynis runs away, and Caelan goes after her, the argument that ensues becomes a night of torrid passion. Both are horrified afterwards. However, always a man of honor, Caelan insists they marry. Glynis, on the other hand, insists they not.

Can a combination of dislike and attraction ever become love?

Better than the last book

This was better than the last for sure. Same formula but at least you felt their attraction. From the minute they met, he was antagonistic towards her but also attracted. They eventually come together when she runs away and the result is pregnancy. I was very very sad about what happened and I was kind of disappointed too. She runs away to grieve, and grow, but of course he chases after and there is an HEA and they love each other passionately. The last scene was sweet as he has a surprise for her. It was safe and free in KU.

💋💋

Great series, but this one didn’t thrill me as much as the others. It’s good don’t get me wrong, just in places it left me wanting and it felt a little rushed, especially towards the end.
Very much looking forward to Atairs book The Stag.

DNF

This book was just so bad I had to give up at 43%. The characters had no character or depth. The plot was so weak as to be transparent. The editing was absent. Word choice was abysmal. Dialogue was trite and juvenile. Pure rubbish at its finest. I am absolutely done with this series. Good thing I got this through Kindle Unlimited or I would have been upset at having squandered my money on such incredibly bad writing.

This was a pleasant read. My personal preference was what made it a mere 2 star.
Firstly, the heroine . Call me conventional but I liked my heroines and not voluptuous. Silly, silly me, I know.
The plot itself was interesting.
Simple.
However, there was not much chemistry between them. It felt rather flat, even, unlike Duncan and Beatrice's story. That being said, I did finish this in a few hours.

Excellent

Great story about Caelan Ross and Glynis MacNeil. Glynis is the niece of Caelan’s stepmother. Glynis says things or does things without thinking. I recommend this story to be read.

I was excited for Caelan's book, as he's the bastard half brother but still the others see him just like any other brother and they're all so close. I liked the chemistry between Caelan and Glynis except for Glynis makes a dumb choice and anytime a really dumb choice is made I just role my eyes. Because why would you do that?!?! The grammar/typos are also starting to annoy me. Content warning for miscarriage.

Sweet love

Even though I haven't read the first 3 books in the series I could follow easily. Impetuous and head strong love still find a way . Well written and interesting story.

"The Fox" is book four in the "Clan Ross of the Hebrides" series by Hildie McQueen. I thought this was an enjoyable read and liked both Caelan and Glynis' characters. This is one of those series where I enjoyed the next book a little more than the book before. I liked that Glynis and Caelan didn't get along at first and that it was a slow evolving relationship. I thought the part where she told Caelan he sounded more English than Scottish was a funny scene. Glynis and Caelan definitely go through some stuff together to end up with their happy ending.

This book is so bad. So very, very bad. Not a fan of this author at all, but like the high level plot so I keep reading the series, only because it’s part of Kindle Unlimited. I was hopeful for this book because I loved Caelan in prior books but, once again, complete personality change in characters from book to book. This was probably the worst one yet, just absurd. Characters make a decision, next page it’s changed, next page they’re back to the first decision. Literary whiplash, constantly. Disjointed conversations, random interactions that would be hints of what’s to come with other authors but are just wasted words for this one. Just no, don’t read it.

Caelan & Glynis. She came to Ross lands to get away from her home and clear her head. Her brother was severely attacked and almost killed while protecting her from 3 men that were going to attack her. Caelan was born out of wedlock but has been treated as a brother and taken the Ross name. They meet but her filter isn't working and she says things that seem to easily get a rise out of him. He grabs her arm and she kneed him in the groin (PTSD from her previous attack). Feeling like she keeps screwing things up, she decides she's going to return to her home. She seeks shelter at an abandoned cabin with a plan to continue her trek to the sea to hitch a ride home. A storm hits and Caelan finds her. He's pissed that she acted without thought but it quickly turned to passionate and they hook up. Knowing she could possible be pregnant (she is), he suggests they marry. Not wanting to trap him, she delays until they know if she is pregnant or not (she is). He is to return but is taken by some men hired by Cairn (traitor from The Lion that has been MIA) to bring him to Cairn. They severely whip him and stab him. He's beaten and tied to a tree, left for dead. His brothers find him (he was at some random dude's house in a dense forest), take him home where his wounds are cleaned (they were festering). His pain is excessive and he refuses to let her (his betrothed) see him. She runs off (pregnant) and decides she'll just have the baby on her own and not marry. After fully healing, he chases after her to convince her that he loves her and to marry him. She agrees but has the baby premature and it dies. She returns to her homeland with her parents but he comes after her. They marry and he fixes up the abandoned cabin (expanding it) to make their home (close to Stuart and Cait).

Typos and grammatical errors ruined story

While the story was entertaining and the characters were interesting, by the middle of the book I found myself just counting all of the errors that ruined the flow of reading. Over and over, two halves of a sentence weren’t connected. A period chopped the thought instead of a comma. Words were transposed, leaving sentences awkward and difficult to follow, and in some places, gender references became confused and I had to just make a best guess as to whom the author was referring.
I enjoy the Ross Clan characters enough to continue with the rest of the series, but I find that with each new story, the quality of the writing is suffering greatly. The Lion was a very good read; The Beast could have been even better. However, the last chapters felt rushed and underdeveloped, as if written more with an eye on the clock instead of the quality. The Eagle was where the typos and mistakes in tense and pronouns became hard to work through in many more places. But The Fox is so bad I almost gave up on finishing it. It appears to be thrown together in haste - perhaps to make a deadline for publishing - without caring about fully developing the characters or the storyline. It is a shame, since Ms. McQueen seems to be a good storyteller.
I most likely will not read anymore of her writings after struggling through these last book on Clan Ross.

Caelan is a Ross! Strong fearless and very handsome his appearance is often mistaken for English as he dresses very well! I like how he’s own person. I did not know he was illegitimate until this story!
Glynis arrives with his stepmother and they are irritated at the attraction between the as it simmers beneath the surface!
They meet and immediately get off on the wrong foot! Glynis is headstrong, beautiful yet foolish! She doesn’t seem to have learned a whole lot from the Kidd she’s that brought her to the keep!
She reacts to everything and rarely thinks about anything sensibly! You listen to her conversation and this girl literally has cried rivers of tears! Glynis makes foolish turns and decisions and it is a long while before she starts to think about her actions and the impact on others!
Caelan has an enemy that caught him unaware and leaves him for dead!
He is a proud man and does not want Glynis to see him like this!
She feels mistreated and doesn’t understand!?? No man wants his woman to see him literally out his mind with pain!
More foolish decisions and tragedy strikes again for this couple! It is an emotional roller coaster and there is a HEA! These two certainly deserve it! Five stars for Caelan less for Glynis!

Awesome Romance Story Not To Miss:
After first meeting Caelan and Glynis they had several encounters that did not go well but the undeniable attraction was positively there even if unwilling to admit it.
Lots of struggles hampered their relationship but there was a silver lining that came through to make their love shine through for a complete and wonderful love story.
This book is maybe my favorite of the series so far.
This is an extremely emotional story that is filled with humor, heartaches, gut wrenching drama, excitement, incredible physical and emotional struggles.
The bond between the brothers and stepmother Muriel was heartwarming.
I shed a few tears, my heart fluttered more than once, I cringed and I
held my breath several times while reading this intense story.
I was in awe how this book captured me from the start.
I loved it and I highly recommend the entire series of a wonderful family.
I did receive an ARC copy for my honest opinion.
I loved this story and highly recommend it.

Never say never.

Caelan is stepbrother to the Laird. Glynis is his stepmothers niece. He is charged with escorting them for a visit to his half brother Stuart’s home on the coast. Glynis is impulsive and at first Caelan is turned off by that, even though he can’t deny her beauty. Glynis is escaping her guilt over one thing that happened at her home and isn’t handling it well. When she leaves on her own and is stuck in a rainstorm in an abandoned cabin, Caelan comes after her. They can’t avoid the passion that grows between them. There is so much going on in this story that I was hooked from page one. I love the bond between these 5 brothers and other family members and the closeness and support their wives are for each other. I won’t give away the rest of what happens in the story but it is definitely worth reading. My only complaint is here seems to be quite a few editing errors which was quite frustrating.

Average to Low Read

Trope: historical romance, butting heads

Slow burn level: 41%

Hero is a bastard born, respected in his clan, brother to laird. Accompanies his step mom on a visit, where heroine is also staying with them.

Heroine is a "fiery" lass, impulsive. With her aunt (hero's stepmom) healing from an attack. Not a virgin.

HEA

Trigger warnings: miscarriage/fetal loss

I'm torn. I really wish I could loved this. But I don't like Glynis character. To me, She's of sort dimwit. Caelan is different from this book than in the last series.

I love details, like how it came about to Caelan being captured, when they whipped him, and what they said, it's all glossed over.

I was so disappointed. I loved the Ross men.

But I'm glad they had overcome their tragic.

the woman main character is an idiot???

Great writing, as always, we love the intimate scenes and the action! But the lead woman was like… shockingly stupid. Room temperature IQ. I just wanted to see more growth from her. By the end of the book she was still pulling the same stunts even though she claims to have learned her lesson the previous times.

If you can ignore her being whack, worth the read!

I really like this story about Caelan Ross and Glynis Macneil. Caelan never planned to marry until he met Glynis who frustrated him with her boldness and impulsive nature. Even so, they become betrothed after a night of passion being stranded at a cottage together. A lot of things happen between them before they actually marry. I won’t say what happens so no spoiler alerts here. However, it is an emotional and wonderful story and you will root for them. Enjoy!

Loved These Two

The tension between Caelan and Glynis is there from their words. Glynis is dealing with feelings of guilt and anger. Caelan has no desire to get to know Glynis. They can’t fight the attraction they feel for each other. Love, loss
and separation work together to build their relationship and bring us an emotional, touching and romantic story you won’t forget.

Loved it

I love the characters off Clan Ross. Hildie does a fabulous job describing the looks, charactertics, and traits of each one. Occasionally Glynis got on my nerves. A little too impetuous and chidlish. I loved Caelan from the previous books and was excited to read his story. I look forward to more books in the series.

I love this story so much. The banter between Caelan and Glynis was amusing in it's ridiculousness and their stubborn fights were so passionate it could only lead to an amazingly complicated relationship.
Their ups and downs, their pain and suffering and their unconditional love reduced me to tear many times and I loved every minute of it.
Highly recommend this book!

The Fox

Each of these stories of the Ross's are really wonderful. Though they are all love stories with various twists this so far is my favourite. Hoodie McQueen weaves a good one with two lovers whose tempers put mine to shame. Yes they eventually make it to the alter but at times you wonder. Enjoy.

Love the Ross brothers!

I have really loved these stories! I love all the stories of the Ross family and the whole clan. The brothers are so devoted to each other and to all their family. I love reading how each of them finds love and their unique stories. Caelan and Glynnis' story is a great one.

Again, I will be late to work tomorrow because I stayed up late reading this installment of the series. I couldn't put it down and thoroughly enjoyed this story full of family, tragedy, and possibly HEA.

good storyline

I liked the storyline. However, there are some grammatical errors that should be fixed. In addition there is at least one occasion when the name of the character at point is incorrect which caused some confusion until I re-read.

Overall good story.

Love the stories, Fire your editor

These stories are filled with adventure, romance, and danger! They truly are hard to put down! However, the formatting and grammatical errors are distracting, and make it hard to figure out which character is speaking.

Good story

I have enjoyed this series. With that being said, each book desperately needs an editor. There are so many typos, misspelled words and grammatical errors that it greatly detracts from the stories.
