The Wylde Wallflowers follows the Wylde twins, Felicty and Charity, along with their two cousins, Benedicta and Cordelia Wylde, as they join their eccentric aunt in London for one last season and one last chance to find husbands. But the girls have their own plans… they want adventure and excitement. They want to know what it means to live up to their family name and be Wylde!!

Branded a wallflower along with her twin sister and her cousins, Miss Felicity Wylde has set out for London under the less than watchful eye of her eccentric aunt for one final season and one last chance to catch a husband. But her sister has convinced her it’s also a last chance for adventure. Goaded into attending a scandalous party, Felicity soon realizes her mistake. The women present are not ladies and men, though titled, are far from gentlemen. Closeting herself in the study, she hides there only to find herself trapped when a quarreling couple invade that space.

Lord Phinneas Merrick attended Lord Hadley’s bacchanal as a means to an end. His entire relationship with the notoriously hot tempered cyprian, La Belle Rose, had been a carefully crafted ruse to gain entree to a particular set and ferret out a blackmailer in their debauched midst. But when he discovers a shockingly innocent young woman hiding in the study where his entanglement with the infamous demirep has come to a crashing end, he knows that the first order of business must be to remove her from that house before the unthinkable happens.

But he can’t wash his hands of her so quickly. Not when the blackmailer has them in his sights. With her reputation and his honor hanging in the balance, Phin must convince her to a very public and very fake betrothal. There’s only one problem… the longer their fake betrothal lasts, the more he desperately wants to make her his.

Good main characters. Storyline was fab. A bit of darkness in this story, but obviously a lovely ending. I did enjoy reading this story. Awaiting #2 next. 4☆

This is my 36th book by Charity Bowlin. I always enjoy her writing.

I really liked this book. I loved Felicity and Phin. Even though storylines finished up, I felt it was a really too quick of a read for some of the main characters to get a lot of depth. A bit more depth would have turned this into an awesome read. But overall still good.

I would recommend!

Good Story, Awful Copy Editing

The story was good and sweet. It had a nice arc, a little steaminess to it, and a good opening for a series. It was hard to really settled into with the poor copy editing. Badly placed or missing punctuation, misspelled words, inconsistencies in timelines- paragraphs apart! Please for others who will go on to read this, hire a copy editor. 🙏

I like Chastity Bowlin, but this book seemed rushed (maybe having to do with the unfortunate illness she mentions in her dedication) and although it's an easy, short read, it didn't pull me in like her Hellion Club series always has. The plot feels perfunctory, with the baddies revealed early on, and the MC's lack depth and chemistry. Their relationship becomes physical way too quickly to even be able to tell if they're suited, and the HEA also feels abrupt. I never really warmed up to the secondary characters, either, other than the MMC's half-sister, Heloise. Perhaps she'll eventually get a book?

Steam level: 2ish.

Thank F- I got this on a stuff your kindle sale

I would be fuming mad instead of really annoyed.

I love the oddly specific, yet abundant HR trope of a plain/shy/general wallflower girl being dared to/tired of being ignored, goes to on an adventure/to a scandalous party and gets rescued by the hero.

This book has this. And a blackmailer. And a fake engagement turned real.

How can you screw this up?!?!

It was ok, but I couldn’t finish it. I’ve read up to chapter 8.
It’s the 3rd book in row that I’ve read where during a party the h got trapped in room and the H comes in with a lover who wants dismiss… it’s getting a bit boring here 😕
Also I don’t get all this passion/love from a grown man after only one kiss.
Not for me.

This story draws you in and you won’t put it down! Felicity is the staid, boring older twin to Chasity. She always does the right thing and makes wise decisions until she doesn’t.
She overhears a conversation at the Modiste that will set of a chain of events no one saw coming!
Phinneas Aka Phin is a Viscount on a mission to protect his half sister and is in the midst of breaking off an arrangement with his mistress Belle when he notices another in the room!
Phin confronts Felicity and is immediately smitten! Felicity is in disbelief as the men in bath never look twice at her!
But someone else knows she is at a party of debauchery and she and Phin must guard against a blackmailer who doesn’t want money!
There is steam that will fog windows with these two but Felicity is not sure that Phin can see her for who she is!
This is such a whirlwind romance with dark forces in secret plotting against them!
There are many more HEA to come and I can’t wait for Hermione story! Bravo a great start to this series!!

Excellent introduction to a new series

Another great book by Chasity Bowlin, One Wilde Night, kept me thoroughly entertained. I love Chasity Bowlin’s books and her feminine characters. Felicity is a woman hoping for some more adventure in her life but that desire leads her into trouble. Phinn is a character with an intriguing sense of honour and I really appreciated the relationship that developed between the two. Book 1 in a new series is an intriguing mixture of romance and suspense and I am really looking forward to book two.

excellent book

Great book. It has everything a good book should have…mystery, intrigue, love. Very well written and interesting. Ms. Bowlin has done an excellent job. I will certainly read more of her books.

Generic, fine. Lots of tropes. Not a lot of depth, extremely formulaic. Yet I will read the rest… because I’m a sucker to learn the stories of the side characters.

Felicity is a young, unmarried woman who becomes entangled in a nefarious plot. After being found crashing a very inappropriate party, Viscount Phineas takes her home only to find out that they are neighbors to each other... and that her presence is quite intoxicating to him. Shortly later, Felicity receives an anonymous letter blackmailing her, and desperate, she asks Phineas for his help. Already deep into the investigation in response to his family member, Phin agrees to help Felicity. When events further unfold, will their forced betrothal be enough to hinder the blackmailer?

I really enjoyed this book. There was plenty of fluff and a few sprinkles of spice that really balanced each other out. Felicity's character was different than the stereotypical regency MC (as she is a wallflower), which I found very refreshing. I also really enjoyed the plot and the mystery behind the blackmailer's identity. The 'final battle' scene was thrilling, and I was grateful that this book doesn't end with the stereotypical "they fall in love and get married, the end". I will definitely be checking out this author's other works as well. (09/2023)

WILD AND CUTE!

I really loved Felicity and Phin. There connection was strong from the beginning. It began with nothing but honesty and friendship even though they were clearly attracted to one another. Even though neither could admit that love was involved initially, I appreciated how they still didn’t fight their attraction and decided to get married.

As much as I loved them, there was also characters that I disliked a lot. I could have done without Aphrodite and her misguided anger and hate. It just made no sense how she justified all the hurt she was trying to inflict. Baxter was also evil, and the darkness that he brought to the story was unneeded for me. It took away from all the lighthearted sweetness that I loved about the book. Charity was annoying. She came off as selfish and inconsiderate of her twin sister’s feelings. Hopefully, this won’t stop me from liking her in later books. Hermione was a little annoying with the desire to punish herself by marrying a terrible man after her indiscretions even when her brother was trying to warn her, but I still liked her overall. I even liked Hartley even though he was such a scoundrel because I could see that he actually cared for her.

The heroine, Felicity, and her twin Charity are wallflowers in Bath who have suffered through several seasons in Bath being invisible to any possible suitors. They decide to try London instead and go there with their two cousins (also wallflowers) to see if they can make a match. Felicity is usually the conservative, quiet one - but she decides to attend a scandalous party by herself to change her image (if only in the eyes of her sister and cousins). Upon arriving, however, she quickly ascertains this party is beyond just being a slightly scandalous affair, but is indeed bordering on an orgy. She hides out in a room, trying to figure out how to leave undetected, when she is seen by Phinneas. He is a Viscount who is attending only to try to uncover a blackmailer - but he rescues Felicity. As the possibility of ruin is hanging over her, and she is contacted by the same blackmailer - they begin a fake betrothal. There are a few plot twists and the identity of the blackmailer is somewhat of a surprise, but is revealed much earlier in the story than normal. Overall it's not a bad story, but not as suspenseful as many others.

Felicity Wylde & Phinneas Merrick

Felicity, her sister and cousins have been the wallflowers in Bath during all of their seasons, so now they have come to London to stay with their aunt in hopes of having a better season there.

Felicity is considered to be the serious one, so after the girls says she would never do anything scandalous, she decides to attend a party that is not meant for polite society. She ends up in a worse situation than she bargained for and thankfully Phinn comes to her aid.

Then someone sends a letter attempting to blackmail her and since Phinn has been trying to find this person, who is also blackmailing his sister, they decide to work together.

Overall, I thought this was pretty good, but it was something that was missing that I just can't explain. Then when I found out who the culprit was, which I thought it was a good thing that I didn't guess, I just wondered why they didn't go about their "revenge" another way. Is this person a child or what?

I am hoping that the original suspect gets their own book with a redemption type story with the woman I'm pretty sure he's in love with.

Her Wilde night turns into forever

I loved Felicity and Phins story. She is a wall flower whom her twin sister said was dull. So Felicity becomes bold and makes her was into Lord Hartleys home, unbeknownst to her it was a risqué party. She hides and is found by Lord Merrick whose was there looking for a blackmailer. Lord Merrick helps her home but realizes she is very intriguing. When Felicity also receives a blackmail letter she goes to Lord Merrick for help.
A beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.

Rating: 3.5 stars. The extra .5 stars came from the last 5% of the book because of the last bit of tension, it was very good! But overall an enjoyable and easy read. Nothing about it was groundbreaking or extremely memorable or exciting, however, it still was a solidly good book. A nice and decently written historical fiction romance novel - it does as it says on the tin! Both main characters were well-rounded and believable and it did have both a bit of spice and a big action scene. A solidly good read!

A sweet book, the kind I love to read!

I loved this book. I read it on a plane flight starting my vacation. Phen and Felicity are the cutest couple and the attraction was there since their first meeting even though it was comprising. The book flowed well, the suspense was good and the ending was nice. I wish there would have been an epilogue to see how the couple faired after marriage. But all in all a good book.

The line editing errors were atrocious

The story is a little less than average but what really made it hard to read were the misplaced commas and forgotten words. Spell check doesn't check if a comma is like this, or ,like this. It was one about halfway through the book then it was every comma by the end of it. There were missing words and the word bother replaced brother.

Lovely, lovely story

A true romance. Appealing, sympathetic characters, denial of love by at least one of the principals, a serious obstacle, resolution, and an HEA. Bowling has the formula down pat with enough creativity to never write the same book twice. Her books are a delight, and I've never read one I didn't love. If you can handle the historical setting, I'm sure you'll love her too.

Whilst there is the hint of film noir, or should that be book noir, about this story it is enjoyable. The main characters work, and I look forward to the rest of the series to see what happens to the rest of the Wyler girls, and hopefully Hermione. There were a few typos in the ebook but not too distracting

The romance happens too quickly and relies too much on lust. I enjoyed the read, but in trying to write a review two weeks later, I had to read the book summary in order to even remember what it was about, so it wasn’t particularly memorable. I did like that the hero was feminist (for the times) in terms of his treatment of his sister and her choices.

A great period drane set in the days of the ton and one unsuspecting wallflower crashes a party to make herself more interesting but soon finds out the party is not what she was expecting. With the help of her handsome neighbour she escapes with respectability intact, or so she thought. But a blackmail letter threatens her ruin. Can they discover their blackmailer before it's too late?

Sweet and short.

I love books that are enjoyable and short. Charity Bowling is a knowledgeable author of the Regency period. She is also a skilled writer who produces characters who are realistic in the fact that they not fallible I would recommend her books to a home who enjoyed sweet happily ever afters with a little bit of spice thrown in.

Interesting.

"Marriage is not an easy thing. Even when you have love, it is not easy. To be happy in marriage, one must be willing to forgive, to forget, and to fall in love ,over and over again with one’s own husband. Do not expect a perfect marriage, but expect that there will be perfect moments.”
It was a good read, with a bit of an adventure and happy ever after.

Just Wylde About It

Bowlin has another delightful regency ... the 1st of 4. A little predictable and some info as to the villian is handed to the intelligent hero who has narrowed it down to 2 people.

I wish the story was a bit longer to allow
for more good character development ... I imagine the other books will provide that opportunity ...so onto book 2
