Loving outside the ring

Charli and Janero "accidentally" meet and decide to keep in touch before realizing the identity of one another. This allowed them to just be, without the pressure of the outside world. Both of them were at the top of their careers and the scrutiny was real. They both overcame some subpar azz mothers, but Rica (Janero's mom) was absolutely the worst. I feel like they lacked connection. It was a hard shift from I think I might like you to, I'm in love with you and I just didn't FEEL the love. I think the author showed them supporting each other and gave some conflict to pull it together, but for whatever reason it lacked to me. I still enjoyed their growth together.

I felt more of a connection between Kobe and Zai which were the second couple. At times it felt like their storyline over powered Charli and Janero's. Their forbidden love was intriguing and I didn't mind the push and pull around it. Kobe was so sweet on her and I loved it.

There were several characters that had a whole lot of audacity....Ren because girl bye you chose your path when you were just a number on the roster, have several seats. Lew...please gtfoh with your "friendly" dk and hands. Avon, I was so glad when the btch fell off the page. Rica and Tamron...the non protectors, I really had enough of them too. Lucas didn't get what he deserved at all unfortunately.

Overall it was a good storyline. I always appreciate a sports romance, where love is still at the forefront. Although I wanted more of a connection between Charli and Janero I liked them together. I definitely want to see how things go with Kobe and Zai as well. Oh and I absolutely loved the visuals, it was such a nice touch that added to the story for me.

SN: the cover could have related more to the characters in the story.

Kaylyn has wowed me yet again with an amazing story!! Fool me once was not lacking in the fool department!🤣🤣🤣 This was such a great read that highlighted the journey of two couples as they embarked on HEA.

The story begins with Charlie and Janero meeting when he crashes his car. Charlie was out for an evening jog and witnessed the crash coming to his rescue. In the beginning they have no idea of the other persons true identity however as the friendship develops, they both discover that they’re famous. She’s a well known child star turned actress/model and he is a light heavyweight boxing champ. Just when they decide to take their friendship to the next level Janero screws up and Charlie is not with his sh!t

Janero’s ex girlfriend and longtime friend also doubles as a friend with benefits prior to Charlie’s arrival. She thinks she has the upper hand because even though she left Janero and had a whole baby on him that he’s wrapped around her finger since he still takes care of her and this other dudes baby. Well once he realizes that Charlie is his forever and has to break this to Ren…. All he!! breaks loose and Ren does not go quietly. Janero had to know that sex would complicate things 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

The second couple is comprised of Kobe (Janero’s best friend and manager) and Zaila (Janero’s sister). These two are trying to navigate through their individual heartbreak and the betrayal of their insignificant others 🤣. Zaila’s no good lack luster long time boyfriend has just been exposed by his side piece that they have a baby on the way and Kobe’s fiancé was caught having sex with his BROTHER at their fathers funeral. Talk about TRIFE city!!!! Jeez!

This story is full of twists and turns that will have you smh throughout. As usual Kaylyn comes through with the visuals and it makes the story that much more entertaining. Bravo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was just the right amount of everything I needed and none of what I expected.

While there were quite a bit of errors, it didn’t take away from the story. I loved Charli and Janero. But I adored Zai and Kobe. I was just invested in their story and wanted so badly for them to get their HEA.

Ren, Rica, Neviah, Lew, Mo are all BIRDS!! Ren, Neviah, and Rica were the worse of them all. I was waiting on them to get popped in the mouth.

Looks like I’m continuing down this author’s catalog. But I love here, so why leave🤷🏾‍♀️😂🤣

🤩🤩📚📚yes great read!!

This was a wonderful experience and read (a few typos but didn't take away from the story)
What a beautiful story of finding love in way of an accident! J&C are the sweetheart couple and they are so sweet and smitten with each other it makes you want more. I lived how the author added images to story and how the drama was believable and realistic. Kobe was a book Bae and I was so happy he gets a hea after what that think was with his ex and brother. The story gave love friendship family drama and growth. I will be reading more by this author and it was a complete standalone.

Janero & Charli

This story sure did have a few “Fools” like the title states. This was good story as we read the Journey of Janero and Charli.

Janero is the light weight heavy weight champion boxer and Charli is an actress/model whose career started at a young age. Both characters come from less then loving homes both mothers in my eyes were 🗑️!

The two meet in a chance encounter when Janero was in a car accident and Charlie was there to help him out. They kept in touch and became friends. The friendship evolved and with that came some bitter ex’s and once again their trash mamas.

There was also another couple Janaro’s sister Nai and his BFF/manager Kobe. These two also have trash ex’s but they eventually get their HEA.

My favorite part of the book is the cute inserts the author puts in the book with “instagram posts”. She is such a good story teller get me drawn in from the first page.

This is my first novel by this author and I give her kudos for crafting a well-written story with multi-dimensional characters who are both relatable and inspiring. This is a full- length novel and it’s definitely worth taking time to unpack and savor the plot and messages that are woven throughout.

3.5 stars….I was a bit disappointed with this story! I love a good long standalone, but this writer’s style of writing was a bit long winded. I found myself bored and uninterested at times and had to skip pages. I enjoyed the characters but I did feel like there was a lack of chemistry between the couples. This story had so much potential. I really thought Charli being a child star was a very unique storyline. Overall, the story was okay.

I didn't like the multiple story lines. I think it threw off Charli and Janero's story tbh. Their story felt under developed especially how their friendship grew. I didn't pick up any chemistry from them. While there were parts that were entertaining, too much was going on.

Definitely a page turner!

Kaylyn does such a great job telling a story, completely. At 479 pages, at the end I felt wholeheartedly that I received a complete story. I didn’t have any lingering questions or thoughts. The characters were everything!! ❤️

The graphics and social media aspects of the book, again such a great touch to the book. We spend so much of our time on social media so that was a cute but realistic touch to the book. I just adored everything about this book! Everything came full circle, the characters were able to reach all of their goals and get their HEA!

This is my first read by this author... I did enjoy the storyline... I like the build up of characters... I was able to connect with them and the emotions that they went through... I didnt have a couple off issues... At first I liked that a snap shot of an article was place in the book... That took be by surprise and I thought okay I have never seen this before, nice... Well after the first one I realized that I didn't care for it to much because the writing was so small it was hard to read and now I felt like I was missing important information on why Charli feels like she does... Also timeline wise... Time jumps but I never knew by how much... At times it felt like a lot of time had passed but then it was only a matter of days... Then towards the end it really started jumping in time and had me feeling like I was missing things and a little lost... Timing was a little off with Charlie and her situation towards the end... But even with all of this I did enjoy this read and I will definitely be checking out more books by this author...
I love Charli... She is a Model/Actress... She is so smart, loyal and has a super big heart... She just happens to give it to the wrong people... In doing so it has began to break her down... She lives her life in front of the camera and sometimes all she wants is a little bit of normalcy... It is the simple things in life that we all have that she wished for... But with those that are in her life like her boyfriend and her mom/manager life was everything but simple... All she kept doing was hiding her feelings... But inside she was losing it... A quick run to release some stress and her life changed forever...
Janero is a boxer... He lives a very wild life... He goes hard for those in his small circle... This includes his sister Zaila, his best friend Kobe, his ex girlfriend Ren and her daughter Maya... He had such a bad childhood that he has learned to hold so much inside... It is like he is a boiling pot that is just brewing underneath... But no one is really paying attention... Then he has his mother that is just out of control... She is always making things worse for him... But Janero has such a big heart that he just puts up with it and still give s her everything... The sad part is that she was not a good mother to him and his sister growing up... Yet here she is with her hand out and kept saying that he owes her...Then we have his ex girlfriend Ren that he still messes with and he takes care of her child like his own because the real father walked away... He is not happy... It is just what he knows so it is comfortable... Ren hurt him bad so he is super protective of his heart now... Well one day with all that is brewing inside he gets into an accident And this is where his life finally changed...
Janero had a bad accident and Charli was the first person there to help... Little did these two know that this would make such a big change in both of their lives... They were not looking for anything yet the connection that they had was undeniable... They brought normalcy into eachothers life and a great friendship... But quickly those feelings began to change and the hearts were pulling them together... but not everyone was on board with this and the drama began for both of them... But no matter what came their way... The connection they had was just to strong... I mean Janero was Jenero and was playing games and making me mad... But he didnt like when the next man tried to step in and move in on Charli while he was playing his game and still playing house with Ren... So he had to make a decision and quick...
This couples journey was a crazy ride with lots of secrets and emotions coming out... They ended up losing relationships with people have been in their life forever... And all because these two grew stroger together and no longer allowed others to control them...
Now on to see what other stories that this author has for me

This was one right here💕🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Bay-be, Queen Kaylyn continues to wow me with her pen game. She definitely gave us one hell of a insta-love novel.
Neveah & Isaiah broke code like a motherfudgesicklestix and that bih karma came back full force.
Rica was the typical trifling egg donor who chose her own wants offer her children's needs. Then had the audacity to think Janero owed her cause she gave birth to him😔. I was sooo thankful when Janero finally decided to stop trying to seek love from a woman who didn't even love herself.
Tamron, the only thing that set her apart from Reca was the fact that she did "raise" Charli. That bih right there mad my motherfudgesicklestix skin crawl. She was always a manager, cause no real mother would ever use and abuse their child the way she did Charli. Charli was a cash cow and capitalized on Charli's talents until she crossed a line she couldn't come back from.
Ren was an ungrateful a** bitter bih. In the beginning I agreed that Ro should've stopped giving her the🍆 cause sex complicates things. She blamed Ro everything, but it was her actions and betrayal that ruined what they could've been. She definitely got greet karma too cause that sorry a** excise for a sperm donor Will wasn't sugar honey ice tea.
Lew was a pedophile and a f'boy. He was just a 🗑 a** bih a** ni**a, period. Karma for him was him choosing a ho* over Zaila, the one who stuck by him no matter what.
Avon was a bih a** f'boy who deserved that a** whooping Ro gave him. Just a bitter ni**a who fumbled Charli's heart and tried to ruin her image with his lies.
Kobe & Zaila were both damaged by the ones they chose to give their all to. Their friendship turned into a beautiful love story. Zai seeking therapy helped her heal from the trauma of her childhood and her relationship with Lew. It also helped her open up to the love Kobe gave freely.
Ro & his Belle brought together by tragic event, and built a friendship from it. Their journey to love was met with doubt, the haters, bitter exes and trifling mommas. Both dealing with trauma from their childhood gave each other the lodge they longed for. The way that Jenaro loved and cherished Belle, went to way with everybody behind her was beautiful.
I fell in love with these characters and thoroughly enjoyed their journey to their HEA💕

Wow! This read pulled me in from the beginning, and I couldn't stop reading! All of these characters were extremely complex, and layered in so many ways. You could almost feel the pain and despair that they endured. Janero and Charli are two people who look to have it all on the outside, but have so much pain and trauma that they hold close to the chest. When they meet it was like their souls connected, and recognized the commonality of their pain! That drew them to together, before they even knew each other. Janero, is a complicated man! He goes above and beyond for the people he cares about, but wants to be loved just as hard! Dealing with his mother's inconsistent presence in his life, losses, trauma, grief and anger from his childhood are forever in the forefront of his mind. They hold him captive, and boxing is his only release, until HER! Charli, is such a sweet person, who has spent her entire life trying to please others. Losing her dad, who was her strength gutted her! She then tried all she could to please her mother, who only saw her as a cash cow! These two wounded souls found peace in regular things with each other. There was no need for pretenses, as they were able to be real, something they both needed. Their love was pure and a joy to be a part of!
Loved Zaila, and how hard she went for her brother. She was fierce, loyal, sassy and did not mince her words! But, she was also loving and nurturing to those around her. The love that Janero and Zaila share is beautiful to see. I hated that she felt that she had to stay in that relationship, when it was clear that was the last place she wanted to be. My 💔for Kobe! It be your own family that does you dirty sometimes! 😈 That betrayal broke him, and he was never the same. Kobe and Zaila were everything! They were both stubborn and strong willed, but they worked. Whew! Those so-called mothers of Janero and Charli were just trash! Them heifers were the most selfish women I have ever seen in my whoooole life! 🤬 The relationships, trials and triumphs of the four main characters was thrilling! Although my feelings were all over the place, I thoroughly enjoyed this read! Great job! 👍👍👍

Unputdownable

Ok I enjoyed this read. I kept scrolling the page because I didn't want it to end. I wanted more of their HEA.

We actually get two couples in this book and the secondary couple was just as interesting and good as the mains. I'm happy the sister ended up with the best friend. Both deserved next level

I snatched up this rec when everyone was thirsting on Social Media for boxer Anthony Joshua coded MMCs. I like a little mess with my characters and this had just a smidgen. Belle was dealing with a toxic ex and her momanager issues. Lamar (snicker snicker ☺️) had an emotional situationship with an ex. His moral compass is set up to still be there for his ex/situationship and her daughter but we had to watch how he untangled from that but when the mains committed they locked in and was the sweetest couple.

Tropes

🫶🏾Is it a trope when the MMC tells off his girl's horrible Ex? Either way this is going in my "he don't play about her" category.

🫶🏾She does his hair. He likes when she plays in his hair and pulls it into a pony

🫶🏾forehead kisses

🫶🏾How did Love get here?

🫶🏾Healing

🫶🏾love as a soft girl era

🫶🏾Protector MMC

I have 2 small gripes for why this book is 4 instead of 5 :

🥊If you wanted a flushed out Boxing/Sports Romance it isn't here. Fights do happen. We had 1 good boxing scene. We had mentions of going to the gym to workout. But the feeling of this being a Boxing Romance wasn't as strong

🥊The writing lacked transitional sentences and situations. One sentence or paragraph characters are outside at a party and talking the very next sentence they are traveling in a car. And you need context clues to make that switch because the movement isn't stated. This happens a lot. I had to reread passages a lot because one thing would be happening and the very next it wasn't. Or characters randomly pop up and I'm like where did they come from.

🥊I felt like Avon storyline just dropped. A hint was given that something else was going to pop off but it didn't.

I understand the reason why she behaves the way she does, but most of the book, Zai attitude and actions annoyed tf out of me.

Rica and Tamron are too ain’t shit mommas.

Zai got Lee riled up and then ran to call Ro which is some shit she’d be mad if Rica did.

Ro can’t be mad that Ren wants to transition him out of Charlie’s life. Yes it was her choice to break up all those years ago but they both played that house shit as well as accepted as he galavanted with other women and now she doesn’t want to endure that anymore and she shouldn’t have to. I know Ro is trying to be admirable but it was never his place and just weird to put Charli in that position or force Ren to stay in it. Hopefully for Maya’s sake the adults can make things work but if not, I’m not mad at Ren or Charli.

Crazy that Ro thinks about of letting Zai whoop Charlie’s mom’s ass but not their own. That’s rich.

Why tf would Zai tell Rica about the pregnancy. If she sells that info I’ll be so pissed and hope he never shares anything with her again.

I don’t like how quickly some of the relationships got resolved because it didn’t feel realistic. Kobe should def still have beef with his bro.

Ok so this is my second book by this author. Overall this book was ok, it didn’t draw me in like the dirt one but was still very engaging. The MCs were just alright. The topic was good one to explore because it shows the impact of childhood has on adulthood. Also we got to explore two types of messed up mothers as bad parenting doesn’t just look one way.

They Found Love!!

Who would have thought a car crash would blossom into friendship and love. Charli thought Janero was going to be like Avon who craved the spotlight and the attention. Zaila sacrificed childhood for Janero. She stayed with Lew because that's all she knew and comfortable. Ren did too that's why she kept making sly comments. After Maya called Janero who came to rescue them, she thought they were going to back to his place. Charli should have left. Nevaeh knew what she was doing, but Kobe wasn't going for it. She trying to make Zaila believe Kobe was in love with her. Isaiah knew he was wrong too. That's why he apologized to Kobe. Rica was a terrible mama, she was all about Janero money. Tamron was too but her's waa relying on Charli. Ren was jealous that Janero picked Charli over her. She is bitter and spiteful. Moniece was a groupie. Marlena and Peyton are Charli sister now she got a sister in law in Zaila.

Great Book

I enjoyed this book SOOOOOO much!😁 This is my first book by this author, but I was a fan by the end of the first chapter! Charli and Janero are young but because they have been in their professions since their youth, both of them have LIVED.😳 Both of them are jaded and have trust issues because of too many experiences with those around them. But there's still a deep connection between that neither was expecting nor knew what to do with at first. I loved that Charli held her ground and didn't accept just pieces of Janero. He had to get his affairs in order and then get his girl. They brought out the best in each other! They still had to deal with snakes in the grass, but they grew stronger together. Kobe and Zaila was an added bonus. She was like a fierce lioness protecting her loved ones. So glad she got her HEA. I love it when everyone is where they should be when the book ends. This was a wonderful book! Definitely 5 ⭐️ Stars!

Great book👍🏽👍🏽

I enjoyed the journey of Janero and Belle. I actually didn’t want to put it down. They were so beautiful to watch. Loved Z and Kobe together also. An all around good read. Ren🙄🙄🙄, couldn’t stand her. She got what she got🙄🙄. Lew🤦🏽‍♀️, dude was just disgusting and missed out on a good thing🙄🙄. Belle’s momma..😔, money over everything?🤔🤦🏽‍♀️. Ro’s trifling momma, Lord have mercy, she took the cake and deserved a beat down as well. Z was really an awesome sister. She deserved her happiness and I’m glad she got it. I recommend this book. It was an awesome read🔥🔥👍🏽👍🏽🥳🥳

Janero Lamar Hart and Charli Belle,
I loved loved them together. The gave each other what they were missing. I'm so happy she "accidentally" met him, who would've know a night of drinking and sorrow would lead him into his forever. I was so happy when Zaila woke up from under Lew's spell. Zaila and Kobe, were cute together once she got over her insecurities. NOW, those mammies were a different story. Rica and Tamron was a piece of work. Both had one thing in common, they both wanted money!!! Tamron wasn't as bad as Rica cause she did work for hers, but that darn Rica, ((rolling my eyes very hard))!!!!! Overall a great read, which I didn't expect anything less from my good sis Kaylyn!!!!!

So good ‼️

Omgeeee this was so good and I don’t know how I missed it.

I absolutely loved me some Janero and Charli ❤️
They were so cute together and exactly what the other needed.

Both mom’s were a hot ass mess. Charli’s mom didn’t know how to separate mom from manager and be there for her daughter vs her client she was too focused on the money.

Janero’s mom was a hot ass ghetto mess who felt entitled to her son’s money a son that she couldn’t care less about if it wasn’t benefiting her.

So glad Zaila left Lew and got with a real man that’s giving her everything she wants but didn’t think she could have.

This was just overall a really good well written read‼️

She doesn't miss!

This is probably my fourth book that I have read by Kaylyn and she never misses! The layout of the background to the character development, there's never anything lacking.

Ro & Charli are complete opposites yet all similar in all the ways that count. They have both endured having parents who could never really be parents to them not even when it counted the most. The most beautiful thing about these two is that they learned and kept their promise to each other to not lie and just be there for each other. It's the simplicity of it all that makes it such an enormous love.

Solace in You.

Opposites attract. Torn in between the two is what was running through my head when Janero couldn’t make up his mind of whether or not he wanted to be all in with Ren or Charli. Both main characters had to work through their childhood trauma; Janero was at times a hot head which at times was triggered by the lack of care during his childhood. I enjoyed his sister Zaila and his friend Kobe story line as well. Both Janero and Charlie were able to learn how to speak up for themselves instead of going to extreme measures. “Just because there is history doesn’t mean I have to allow you to mishandle me”.

YOU DID THAT!!!!

Niece...you are the bomb.com. I become a bigger fan every book you put out. I love the format of these books with the inserts. Janero is now my play nephew, i love me some him. Zai had me worried in the beginning with her overbearing ways but reading on and reading how Rica was i get it. So glad she left Lew and ever so happy Kobe didnt fall bictim to trifling Neveah. Ren was selfish as s#$%. Im glad Charli Belle was in the park that night and met her forever. Great job.

great read

I absolutely loved Charli and Janero. Now Janero did work my nerves just a bit with some of his misplaced loyalty with several folks, but I understood it too. There was a lot of different family dynamic issues, but also lessons on self-worth and self-care too. Sometimes things don’t work out because they’re not supposed to. Some people are just merely lessons and not permanent fixtures in our lives. I’m glad I took a chance on this book, because I was not disappointed.

First read but won’t be last

Baaaaby, when I tell you this book had everything in it and pulled every emotion, it did just that. From the first page, I was hooked. Charli and Janero’s relationship was truly relationship goals. To have a man love you wholeheartedly as he loved his Belle was everything. There were a lot of errors in the book, but that did not take away from the read, nor did it interrupt the flow or have you second guessing what the author was portraying. Kaylyn, you definitely have a new fan!

Nice very nice

This standalone is lit. My girl was pissing me off at first with her always in her head. But her and my boy they are an unstoppable team. Z and Kobe I’m glad they got together cause she needed some positive in her life. She was always there for people now it was her turn for somebody to have her back. U did good on yet another book and I’m looking forward to reading more of them. Sitting here patting my feet while sipping on Pepsi and eating popcorn while waiting on the next book to read

OMG! This was so perfect and so good.

First time reading this author and this fell on the perfect spectrum. I am actually more pissed off at myself for taking this long to read it than anything else. This needed to be enjoyed as soon as you get it, trust me!!!!
Belle and Lamar were the best. Although Lamar got on my nerves with his Ren and Maya saga, he was still bae all around. Rica and Tamron were the worst while Zaila was the bomb as well as Kobe.
Great stuff and now I am going to binge on this author’s work…. Get yourself a copy and see for yourself!

Really enjoyed this!

I really loved Janero! At the beginning I was reading with my mouth open in shock at his audacity, but throughout the story, his decisions really made sense. It's realistic to take your time when making life altering decisions and I had to respect him for being a man of his word. Charli was so vulnerable it made me glad for the protection of her Lamar. This book was really well written with great character development and 2 dope storylines. (2 couples) Zaila and Kobe definitely have a place in my heart.
