Cullen grew up in rural North Carolina, but now lives in the St. Louis area with his wife Cindy and his son Jackson. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, was released in 2008. In addition to The Sixth Gun, his current projects include Crooked Hills, a middle reader horror prose series from Evileye Books; The Tooth, an original graphic novel from Oni Press; and various work for Marvel and DC. Somewhere along the way, Cullen founded Undaunted Press and edited the critically acclaimed small press horror magazine, Whispers from the Shattered Forum.

All writers must pay their dues, and Cullen has worked various odd jobs, including Alien Autopsy Specialist, Rodeo Clown, Professional Wrestler Manager, and Sasquatch Wrangler.

And, yes, he has fought for his life against mountain lions and he did perform on stage as the World's Youngest Hypnotist. Buy him a drink sometime, and he'll tell you all about it.

This is more like it! I'm not remotely interested in sadists who think they're gods, and neither am I interested in those whiny little zealots who follow along, none of whom have any character development whatsoever. I'm far more interested in human response to individuals like this, when that response is considered resistance. I also find heroic figures far more compelling when they're doing resistance things rather than musing on their tragic backstories (why is there always a tragic backstory? It strikes me as a profoundly conservative narrative tactic, this idea that people will only care enough to resist when they're affected directly).

I don't care much for the ending, which implies another vicious spree killing, but it's still a big step forward from issues two and three.

I not leaving any stars here because I just had this issue in a random grab-bag and haven't read any previous issues in the series.

To that end, I did enjoy it. Even picking it up here part way through, the story was clear and the world that has been created seems interesting. The art is entertaining and easy to follow -- overall the story seems rather easy to get into.
