When the death of a child heralds the birth of a monster, living nightmares destroy pleasant dreams. What if your dreams don’t come true… but your nightmares do?
Eiko “Erica” Calmet loves children — they are her entire world. Caring for them quiets her mind and soothes a hurt residing deep within her soul. But the darkness of her dreams soon takes a more sinister turn as mutilated bodies start turning up at local synagogues, repeating a grisly pattern of ritualized deaths occurring at the same time every few years.
When she confides her secret nightmares to a trusted friend, a harmless elderly man named Henry, she is unprepared for the consequences that will deepen her despair and change her life for all of eternity.
Or maybe you won’t, but that depends on the kind of story you enjoy. Dayna doesn’t write romance, paranormal or otherwise. So what drives her? She is an admitted lover of vampire fiction but prefers serious stories with serious characters. The works of Anne Rice, the role-playing game Vampire the Masquerade, as well as television shows like Forever Knight, plus a plethora of additional books, games, and movies consumed over the years have influenced her own work. She is crafting the tales that she is excited to read; stories that only she can create. She invites you to join her on the journey.
What starts off as an ordinary tale following Eiko quickly changes when she confides in a friend from work.
Ward's writing is very descriptive which I love! You are immediately pulled into the story and feel like you could be a character yourself. The situation between Henry and Eiko pulls you in deeper as Eiko struggles with her new reality. When Darwin and the others confront Henry, the story really gets intense. They feel he is hiding a secret and will stop at nothing to find out what it is. Then Sam gets involved with the group, I couldn’t wait to see how everything unfolded.
This is not your typical vampire story. This book is so full of raw emotion, trauma, and struggle. It is beautifully written, and I look forward to the second book.
Something is causing vampires to die. One vampire wants to remain immortal and searches desperately for a cure. No-one suspected the answer. Full of surprises, this story keeps you on your toes till the end.
Writer has a great style, was easy to read. It’s a slightly new take on vampire mythos which isn’t fully explored yet in this first book but I am hoping is more fully explored and explained in coming installments of this series. I will be looking forward to the next book!
