The Dirty is book 2 in the series A Good Run Of Bad Luck and is best read in order.
Nathan I always dated for fun. In my job, I didn't have time for anything serious, but that all changed in the blink of an eye. I was looking for Mrs. Stark, and I just found her. Reserved, sexy, every fantasy wrapped up into one beautiful package. But there's a side to her I never saw coming.
Penny Everyone thinks I'm a good girl, and for the most part I am. I have a great job, I follow the rules, and I never cause trouble. At least, not outside the bedroom. When I met Nathan, his demeanor immediately screamed that he needed a release, and I was about to give him one.

'The Dirty' is the third book in Giulia Lagomarsino's "A Good Run of Bad Luck". Right now I still have a knot in my throat from an unexpected situation and my sides hurt from laughing so hard. If you've watched "Pretty Woman" and remember the opera scene when Julia Roberts says she enjoyed it so much she almost wet her pants and Richard Gere rephrases the statement to make it appropriate then you'll know exactly how I feel right now. Lots of laughter, lots of emotion, a whole lot of chaos, and the title now makes sense. What a great book!!

The Dirty is book two in the series; A Good Run of Bad Luck, which is a spinoff series from The Cortell Brothers. These books should be read in order to have a better understanding of the characters and town. This is a small town, romantic comedy focusing on Nathan and Penny's journey.
Nathan was a lot more like Eric Cortell then I would have imagined. He is uptight and a lot more vanilla then I would have anticipated with how much he loved sex. He was relatively sweet, romantic, and an overall good guy. But he could be quite the dumba$$ and put his foot in his mouth numerous times.
Penny was professional, fun, outgoing and practical. She also has quite the adventurous side and likes to spice things up. She's also incredibly caring. She comes off as innocent but she's far from. She also gives as good as she gets when it comes to pranks and payback.
The story was not what I was expecting. It was unpredictable, entertaining, and kinky, but also emotional. It had some good humor, but how can it not with the Cortell Brothers and their crazy wives being in the mix. We get to meet some new characters, Tyler and Lucas, that have piqued my interest. I felt there were some little nuggets about Tyler. Hopefully they both get their own stories. Until then, I'm really looking forward to Carter and Jacks story.
Well that certainly wasn't what I was expecting after the other two books. Both main characters irritated me more often than not, and there was barely any of the suspense as it was more focused on bedroom antics and childish pranks that were over done, at least in my eyes. Not every book is going to be for every reader though, and I know many people who will enjoy this. I'm just a suspense loving dark soul who was waiting for more answers from the previous book. Just because this book wasn't for me doesn't mean I won't be eagerly awaiting news on the next book and hoping this was just a once off in the series. Despite all of this I adored Speedy and hope to see her again.
Nathan is one of the good guys, the good guy that often says the wrong thing. The minute Nathen sees Penny he knows she’s it for him, but he knows he’s gonna have to change some things to get Penny to see him. Penny had a side that everyone saw, then there was the other side that wasn’t so innocent. Nathan only has to get past Penny’s best friend who has scared every other man away. Full of pranks, the Cortell’s and the town involved makes for a great read.
The Dirty is a fantastic addition to the A Good Run Of Bad Luck series and Nathan and Penny’s story. I really loved Nathan, he was such an engaging and likable character. From the moment he meets Penny he knows she’s the one for him. I liked how Penny wasn’t as innocent as she seems and l really enjoyed how she was the one introducing Nathan to new things in the bedroom. An incredible read and series. Highly recommend.
This was a little different and a little fun, which I liked. I actually loved that Penny was the dom in this story because it gives us a different side of things. Nathan needed that and it actually worked well for their dynamic. Some of the other things happening in the story had me scratching my head but it's enjoyable regardless.
I'm on the fence a little with this book it does delve into alittle of the more kinky BDSM play yet I'm just not enjoying it being that the dominant is Pen I can understand that Nathan is in a high power stress job and needs an outlet and Pen is in a job where she is bossed around and overlooked so she uses the bedroom to assert herself. The whole dynamic of Pen and Tyler did grate on me abit with his over bearing protectiveness of her yet she seems to have this whole throw him out reel him back in vibe it's a really bad 3 way relationship. I guess I'm just a jealous person and don't like sharing lol. Man I thought Sinner had a hard time when he feel for Cara poor Nathan he is going through torture and all for some cute puppy eyes damn Penelope. Boy I'm alittle disappointed that things ended the way they did with Gia it was kind of anticlimactic I was expecting something abit more psycho I guess. But like always Giulia seems to end up having me bawling my damn eyes out I wanted climatic and why I thought I wouldn't get it was beyond me.
Fun, sexy mexy, plenty of action and yes at times tears.
This is by far the best series and the offspring series I have read this year.
The complex threads that Giulia weaves her stories, and her characters keeps you coming back for more. You will be riveted to the pages and find that hours have passed by the time you manage to pull yourself away.
You will laugh your arse off when you are not sweating through the action.
Nathan was a noticeable character when he first appeared in Textbook Approach and it’s time for Charlie’s best friend to get his story now that he’s met the one.
Nathan was an optimist, cheerful, and a really likeable hero. Whilst Penny was loyal, protective, and not as innocent as you may first think. What I really loved about these two was their ability to surprise one another and the reader, particularly when it came to Penny. It made for a nice change to read a book where it’s the heroine who is introducing the hero to new things and awakening a side to him, he didn’t realise he had.
It’s a case of instant love/lust for Nathan. From the moment he meets Penny he knows she is the one and from very early on begins to imagine the life they may have. It’s quite instantaneous for Penny as well and these two get serious very quickly. To counteract that seriousness, you’ve got the best friends. Charlie (Nathan’s best friend) and Tyler (Penny’s best friend) both have their concerns over this budding romance and are not afraid to voice their concerns. Tyler’s protectiveness of Penny comes out in quite a funny way multiple times and begins a prank war that gets more complex, involving more people, as the book continues. I loved Tyler from his first appearance and how we also got his perspective. Fingers crossed this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him.
The other characters were great additions to the plot and I’m enjoying the hints of future couples and the continuation of already established storylines. I loved the appearances of Will and Charlie (Textbook Approach), it was really nice to see more about these two as we haven’t seen as much of them in comparison to the rest of the Cortell family (Start the Cortell Brother's series here: Maintenance Required).
With meddling friends and town folk, pranks, a slightly deranged old hook-up, special need animals, the gossip filled Facebook page, and those amusing Cortell brothers and their wives, The Dirty is an enjoyable continuation of the world that Giulia continues to expand. I liked Nathan and Penny’s book and look forward to their continued appearances later on in this series.
First off, we are saying that this is one off our favorite series to date, we have never laughed so hard through and entire series as this one.
We absolutely loved Penny and Nathan's story from cover to cover, we could not put it down. The chemistry between this couple was off the charts, and they were perfect for one another in and out of bed.
Penny was a character opposite of everything you see at first glance, and we loved that about her character as she was smart sexy, had a heart as big as Texas, made friends everywhere she went and fit perfectly in with Nathan's friends.
Nathan the playboy finally met his match when it comes to Penny, she is no throw away, and he knows it the problem is if he is to win her heart she needs to get throw two sexy cop roommates who are protective as all get out.
This was one hot read that was sexy and fun that brought you tons of laughs, had some ups and downs and Penny who nudged Nathan out of his comfort zone.
This was one of my favorite plots and when you read it you will understand, as Penny and Charlies plan was genius and downright hilarious.
Overall loved the characters, they were engaging and funny and this town is full of an eclectic bunch of people who are in everybody's business, why? Because they love each other and want what's bet for each other, and sometimes you need a kick in the pants to see what is right in front of your face before you lose the best thing to every happen to you. What are friends for? Absolutely loved it!
I have to say sometimes (and this is one of those times) I worry about the way the author's mind works. A playboy doctor, he makes sure the women know he isn't in for the long hall. Sex is fine, more than fine, but that's it. His bestie is one of the Hart boys' women. No more friends with benefits but she is often his sounding board or advisor with the opposite sex.
She's an accountant and the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. She's so innocent the first time he sees her he's a goner. That is unless her bestie, a big bad cop who doesn't want her dating anyone even though the cop isn't romantically involved with her.
My concerns about the author's mind have to do with the ends the men will go to keep Penny or keep her away from the other. Is she as innocent as she appears? When the Hart boys and girls step in to help it is going to go as it usually does with them all. One-upmanship games--rescue pets (whose rescuing who), plenty of steam, and unforgettable characters even though you might want to forget a couple—oh heck no—the more convoluted the games the more fun. Is Tyler going to keep his friend away from the big bad sexy doctor? Is Nathan gonna end that friendship and keep the girl? There are plenty more to add. There are some serious moments. A tissue warning for near the end. Everything changes in a moment. Will whether they want to move on even matter? Enjoy.
I’ll Never look at an Accountant the Same Way Again
Finally, we get to read the story of our loved doctor, Nathan in The Dirty. He has always played the field with no strings attached but he has always wanted more. That special someone who he couldn’t live without, who would be heartbroken if he was gone.
Penelope is the innocent and sexy Accountant that has caught his eye. On the outside she is all sweet and innocent, but she hides another side to her, and let me tell you, you will never see accountants in the same way again.
The only issue Penny has is her overprotective flatmate and best friend, Tyler, who also happens to be a cop. Whenever she finds someone she likes, they are driven away by the intimidation of Tyler.
Can Nathan win Tyler over and convince him that Penny should be with him, or will events take a dramatic turn and tare them both apart?
Giulia serves up her usual humour and heartache in one book and I absolutely loved the interaction of all the characters new and old in this book. We even get to see some more matchmaking by our resident Cupid. I loved this book and hope for more to come from Tyler who you will love in the end, I promise.
I received an ARC copy of The Dirty and am voluntarily leaving this review.
So Nathan is Charlie's best friend & they even had some FWB action going on before she met her lobster so if you've read The Cortell Brothers series, you know her very well already. He's a man who hasn't been seeking anything serious with anyone because his medical career always came first but things take a turn when he comes face to face with Penny, who looks to be very straight laced, so you are going to enjoy her so much LOL! They embark on a crazy journey of heat with a kicker of a lot of laughs. Oh, and Penny has a bestie who she lives with, and he's gotten very good at running any and all men away that she's interested in so Nathan has his work cut out for him. The hijinks are about to take off, and I found myself laughing hard as usual as the pranks got going, fights popped off, and the gossip Facebook page was still going strong. Now, I have to say that Nathan certainly rubbed me the wrong way more than once with his callous attitude towards women but that's just me, it didn't take too much away from this sexy journey with a twist. I have to state for the record that I have many questions from the last book that I need answered (HINT HING Giulia Lagomarsino) before I lose it but meanwhile I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Where to start with this one..I really like that this book has a refreshing twist, it's not the usual insta love/lust story.
But with that being said there were some bits of the book that I didn't enjoy. Namely the pranks that Tyler, Nathan and Penny pulled. This book will appeal to alot of people though.
Nathan made an impact for me when he was introduced in Textbook Approach, and I did look forward to his book. He does give off this Dom vibe with his job being as high pressure as it is, but he's also super sweet at the same time.
Penny was a complete surprise to me. I thought that she might be a bit like Clair in the whole good girl approach, but she is definitely something else. I do like the fact that it's her teaching Nathan new tricks, but I'm not so comfortable with her being the dominant in the bedroom (this is purely my thoughts, so don't hate the book).
Tyler is an oddball that I want to know more about. I think his level of being protective is certainly over the top, but it seems to fit in with the Cortell Brothers, Antonio, and the Reed Security men.
In conclusion, I did enjoy the book immensely and I do look forward to the rest of the series.
What a rollercoaster of a read this was, I think I say that about every book Giulia releases but it’s simply the truth! It sure kept me wanting more and needing to know what would happen next and how it would end. I really enjoyed the twists and turns and the fact that Penny was a ‘take charge’ kinda gal. I definitely laughed a lot reading this book and found a lot to like in it.
I didn’t always like either of these characters, to be honest though. Nathan was pretty callous with his co-worker and even though I understand from his point of view that he was honest with her, I found him a little harsh. That being said, she deserved to cop the mouthful she did in the end. He was also pretty brutal and selfish later on in the book towards Penny. I'm not sure I could have forgiven him.
Penny was, I don’t know. I didn't really connect with her but I didn't dislike her. I liked her best friend Tyler a lot more and hope that he gets his own story at some point :D I was missing a connection with Penny though and that’s unusual for me with the females in Giulia’s books. I usually like the ones everyone else can’t stand lol
The latest by Giulia Lagomarsino is filled of comedy and shows us that the love of a good woman can change even the most serious men out there. Nathan is a doctor by day and at night well he plays the field. The only woman he dreamed of settling down married his best friend and since then well he's definitely sowing his wild oats. Then we have Penny, accountant by day and at night sexy temptress but with some overprotective men in her life. Nathan has a lot of work to do when it comes to Penny but also her best friend, Tyler. I loved seeing Nathan outside of his comfort zone yet something keeps holding him back when it comes to his true feelings towards Penny. Giulia Lagomarsino not just brings us Penny but hot dang is her sexy friend and well his feelings as well. From afar it seems this is a trio of trouble but when it comes to Penny, Tyler and Nathan all bets are off when i comes to love. Once again Giulia Lagomarsino has a hit and cannot wait to see what she does next with this town.
"I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own."
This is book two in the Good Arun of Bad Luck spin-off from the Cortell Brothers series and I wasn’t expecting Nathan to be next. Heck this wasn’t the book I expected for Nathan. But I loved it. I love being surprised and Guilin Lagomarsino has done that from the first of her books I read. Nathan is a playboy and has always said he wouldn’t get tied to one woman but when he fell almost instantly that was shock number one. Then trying to figure out Penny’s relationship and unable to cut ties with he best friend Tyler was intriguing. I loved Tyler and Zach and all the pranks between Nathan and Tyler then Penny too. The handicapped dogs s big plus. This book was funny and probably the hottest in both series. I hope there will be books for Tyler, Zach snd Sean as well down the road and I can’t wait to see what’s next in this book. I hate to say you do need to read in order and it’s best to have read the Cortell Brother books first but trust me you won’t be disappointed!
I just love this series. It’s funny and sexy with great characters. All of which are present in The Dirty. The author has given us another romantic tale with lots of humor and lots of tricky situations. This is Natan’s story. We know him as the Doctor, who due to his friendship with Charlie, is a part of the Cortell brother’s circle. He’s known as a player since he hasn’t had time for a relationship due to med school and this is work as a surgeon. But times have changed and he wants something serious. When he bumps into Penny, at his accountant’s office, he instantly knows she’s the one. She is prim and proper and everything he’s looking for. Little does he know, Penny has a wild side. She also has a bestie/roommate (Tyler) that is determined to run Natan off.
This is a hilarious romance with a touch of wildness. I highly recommend grabbing up this book as well as the first book and novella in this series. Your funny bone sure won’t regret it.
This book was completely unexpected for me. We met Dr. Nathan Stark in the Cortell Brothers Series when Will Cortell got together with Charlie. Nathan is Charlie's BFF and once FWB. Penelope Howell totally took me by surprise! She looks innocent and acts a bit naive... all business on the outside but all party behind closed doors. She has her own BFF Tyler, whom she lives with. He's an overbearing BFF, checks out all her dates, makes things difficult for said dates, and generally just didn't like Nathan. The feeling was mutual. There was a lot of humor and banter and we see the characters from the previous books in the series, but some of the antics that the main characters did to undermine and manipulate each other even in jest was a little bit much in some instances. But it was really all in keeping with the antics of the Cortells and their significant others.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
Once again, the entertainment from the Cortell brothers, their wives, and their group of friends brings the laughs. It's incredible to me the shenanigans these people get up to and how it all ends on Facebook. We are getting the story of Dr. Nathan Stark (does anyone remember the TV show Eureka on SciFi?), and his story ends up quite spicy. 🌶 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Nathan's love interest is Penelope, the accountant, picture sexy librarian here just a number-crunching one. And that's not all she crunches 🌶🌶 She's got a cop for a best friend who hates everyone she dates. Let the pranking and shenanigans begin! Throw in a couple of girl fights and arrests, and we know we are back in the Cortell family's small Indiana town for all the fun.
Suppose you have not read Giulia Lagomarsino's books. In that case, you really need to for the comedic value alone, but underlying it all are solid stories of love, romance, and trusting your heart (and possibly your health) to another.
The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below, I would recommend reading those books(s) first. Maintenance Required (The Cortell Brothers #1) Collateral Damage (The Cortell Brothers #2) Wanted Dead Or In Love (The Cortell Brothers #3) Textbook Approach (The Cortell Brothers #4) Priceless Ink (The Cortell Brothers #5) Tangled Web (The Cortell Brothers, #6) Dead Man's Hand (A Good Run of Bad Luck #1) Drawing Dead (A Good Run of Bad Luck #1.5)
This is Penny and Nathan’s story. She comes off as a really good girl which is true, but she also has a dirty side. He is a little uptight but still a great person. He can be kind of stupid at times but that was no unexpected. This story is full of laughs, pranks and all around fun. You get more of the Cortell brothers and there woman which tends to make it an all around fun time.
Nathan has always dated with no relationships until he meets Penelope who is believes is sweet and innocent. However, Penelope is far from innocent. She is my girl crush and man, is Nathan absolutely surprised by the tiger in the bedroom. But Nathan has to keep her best friend Tyler and his work partner, Lucas from coming between him and Penelope. Things get out of hand when Nathan asks Penelope to move in with him and then she decides to invite Tyler, Lucas and a few shelter dogs. The guys decide to prank Penelope to get out of it but then she decides to prank them back and so it goes back and forth and gets out of hand. During all this the ladies have a massive cat fight that plays out like the Abbott and Costello "Who's on first?" routine. Of course, Corduroy has to play the matchmaker game in the end as usual....can't wait for his turn.
I loved The Dirty. Nathan has met his match with Penny and she's a woman that will keep him on his toes. When these two start their relationship, they drag not only the Cortell brothers into their shenanigans, but also Penny's brother and his partner in the police force.
The book is comical, fun, and entertaining and brings back all of my favorite characters from the Cortell Brothers series. I love reading these books and often end up reading the funny parts to my husband because I am laughing so hard at their shenanigans. If I could give these books a higher star rating than five I definitely would. I love the stories, characters and the hilarity that ensues in these books. If you are looking for a fun romance story to read with some suspense and crazy antics, you should pick up a book by Giulia Lagomarsino, you won't be disappointed.
This is the second book in the A Good Run of Bad Luck series. The books really are best read in order. They’re told by the main characters Penny & Nathan, but a few are from Penny’s best friend’s POV & there’s even one from Corduroy. Nathan is a doctor, and the minute he sets eyes on his accountant, Penelope, he knows she is The One. Penny comes with her protective roommate, Tyler (a cop) & Tyler’s actual work partner. Nathan has to prove he’s good enough for Penny, and so the games begin. There’s lots of fun pranks but both Nathan & Penny want the same thing—a person who puts them above all else. It’s a lot easier to wish for than enact. The author does a fantastic job with her quirky characters & their development.
I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.
Nathan is a doctor who has always put his career first with his personal relationships placing a very distant second. He was expecting that a visit to his accountant’s office would be a boring chore until he meets Penelope, and he wants her for so much more than her accounting skills.
Penny is an enigma as the image she portrays is very different than the woman she is. She is attracted to Nathan but with two people determined to keep them apart let the hijinks begin!
The situations they find themselves in are humorous and the chemistry between them hot as not only do we get to see Nathan and Penny find their way to each other, but we get to catch up with the other characters we know and love.
Well Giulia delivers a book full of laughs and surprises. This is the third book in her A Good Run of Bad Luck series.
The title almost tells you everything you need to know. Nathan has his hands full with the innocent looking accountant but boy does she have him fooled. Can he survive what Penelope has in store for him? Can he get past her best friend Tyler?
I love the dialogue between the guys at poker night, the banter between Nathan & Penelope. The off the charts chemistry and dirty talk will get you hot under the collar. You will need a fan while you read this one.
So far this is the best one out of the series. I cannot for the next installment, Ace, in the series. Giulia never disappoints.
The Dirty: A Small Town Romance (A Good Run of Bad Luck Book 2) By Giulia Lagomarsino
I’m going to let you read this one and figure out what the title means. I’ve already explained what happens when a man and woman spend some time together to not just my own four children, but to hundreds of kids in Health class.
The only thing I will tell you is someone in this book loves to explore with the opposite sex and it wasn’t the Doctor.
None the less, so many laughs, a fair amount to kink and as readers we should hope that the author has truly made a Facebook page for this town!
I will laughed, took hallway notes at a few closed door meetings at the accounting firm and had a few choice words I wanted to share with someone’s best friend - he needs to step back where his best friend is concerned.
Two dogs and a cat will find their forever home and I think each and every reader needs to visit Mary Anne’s bakery.
This book was soooo much fun to read. The characters come alive for me every book I read by Giulia Lagomarsino. I wish I knew people like them in my life. They are funny, caring, insane, and some of them almost certainly psychotic!
But I would not have them any other way. The main thing I love about this authors series is the open revolving door of characters from other books who show up, wander around for a bit, either contribute to the chaos, or offer often times hilarious solutions to the problem (Why don't you just shoot them?", and then go about their business.
I can't wait for the next book! I know who I am hoping it will be about! We shall see!
This is the 3rd book in this series and out of all the books I have read from this author, this is the one which I struggled to engage with the complex characters. Nathan is a doctor who could be quite callous to his co-workers, and later on in the story brutal and selfish. Penny appears to be sweet and innocent, and she is an accountant, until she is out of the office environment, then her dominant side comes out to play. This is a good story which is an emotional roller coaster, with friendships, drama, fun, and is a steamy page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
GL is in my top 5 fav authors. I've read at least 30 of her books so far...probably xloaer to 40. Still going. This title i wasn't over the moon about. The last few chapters made the whole story. It came together.
I was LMBO during the painting scene at the shelter. The domino effect during the chick's fighting was just...typical GL humor.
So far, of this series, 4 horsemen is my fav. Sometimes, a more calm story is just what's needed. That one hit the mark. As for Chouderoy, high marks for him...he had his rockstar-moment in the end. I do hope Tyler gets as HEA, too. He's a protective, loveable dude who deserves it.
