Hiding from her problems as she vacations at a beach house, Gloria's only concerns are walking her dog, relaxing by the pool, and kayaking. Then she spots a strange sea-creature stalking her as she paddles around a secluded cove.
Little does she know the mysterious creature is a tentacle alien!
Lu cannot help but follow this pretty Earth-Human around while he is waiting for rescue. He knew that humans were adorable, but this one draws his attention and entrances him. He never intended to reveal himself, but everything changes when the object of his fascination is attacked and he must intervene to save her.
Chasing Cthulhu is a slow-burn alien/human romance intended for adult readers.
This is the second book in the Urf Oomons Series. You should read Mandy and the Tentacle Monster first.
This one starts with our bossy friend Lu being stranded on earth, more specifically the Florida Keys. Where he first sees Gloria and he’s immediately enamored.
Gloria has her own issues, she’s a gamer on YouTube and TikTok and she’s made a comment that’s sent her straight onto the radar of a men’s rights group. Because god forbid a woman has an opinion.
Anywho I won’t get into my feminism or we’ll be here all day. But Lu comes to her rescue a few times before they’re both abducted.
There’s a lot of abductions in this one and honestly it’s not my cup of tea. Obviously that is a me thing but it accounts for my lower rating.
When they manage to make it back to Lu’s homeship, it takes a helping hand from the nosey Mandy for them both to pull their heads out and realize that they want each other.
Now this is where this story shines. Where I was disappointed in its predecessor Chasing Cthulhu gave me all the weird alien smut I was hoping for. Lots of tentacle, suction cup action along with Lu being so dominant and hot I was left wishing for more.
Overall an entertaining read, even if I could wish for less abductions and more smut. I can’t wait for Baht’s book, I’m especially looking forward to his joy inducing venom.
Still fun the second time I’ve read it. This is an alien romance that is VERY aware of the entire genre. It’s hilarious, with multiple abductions and misunderstandings. It’s fun and the story trots around the universe a lot. We get to hang out with Tiny and Seven from the first book quite a bit.
We get a look at a lot of different cultures in this one and various governing bodies. The worldbuilding is interesting... though the amount of things considered deviant is also interesting.
This ends on a cliffhanger for the overarching story, but the couple are together. The dude has a lot of jealousy issues that I wouldn't put up with in a human... but, like the heroine, I feel so happy with his behavior in the book.
First Read
So good! 4.5 stars. I loved it. Just a lot of fun. Plus, we get to see the characters from the first book again.
I'm a bit bummed that I didn't connect with Chasing Cthulhu the way that I did with book 1. I think my enjoyment was lessened because of my mood as well. This story felt messier and while it still had lots of humor, sci-fi escapades, and interesting side characters, there was less fun charm for me personally. I loved Lu (H), who was sweet and protective but also a bit awkward, but I didn't enjoy Gloria (h) as much. I liked that she had a backbone and she was resilient. Her desire to be with Lu seemed like an out of the blue shift however and there were times she didn't seem truly interested in him but she actually was. Their relationship development was weaker in my opinion. Part of this book takes place on Earth and the rest in space and does involve multiple abductions. But Gloria does have a cute doggy friend, huge bonus for that! Written in first person, dual POV. No ow drama, tiny om drama in a sense because there is a male human who doesn't show interest in the h but who becomes a source of jealousy for the H. The h was not a virgin and it appeared the H was.
As much as I loved Mandy in book 1, I wish she was toned down more here so the focus remained more firmly on Lu and Gloria. The overarching plot also shifted the focus away from the romance somewhat because of Mandy's goals and the conflict. I once again liked the alien steam (with tentacles) so that was a positive. The book does end with a HFN/HEA with Lu and Gloria together and in love, but the overarching plot is left dangling, including a lead-in to the next book.
I loved the first book in this series, Mandy and the Tentacle Monster, and was excited to read this next installment. I was worried if it would measure up to the first one and boy did it. This was lighthearted and sweet. I love these Homeworlders, they are so open and straightforward. It's so cute and refreshing.
I loved Cthulhu, Lu for short. He wanted a mate so badly after seeing Mandy and Seven's bond. After he crash lands on Earth, escaping bad aliens, he starts watching the interesting human that keeps coming out into the secluded cove he's hiding in. Lu feels a protective instinct for this female human and he's drawn to her. When he sees men trying to hurt and kidnap her, he comes to her rescue. Once Lu left the water, to save the female, the bad aliens were able to track him and abducted Lu, the female, and her dog. The craziness ensues from there.
Gloria, is vacationing with her dog Princess Peach. She is trying to escape the negativity of being being cancelled and physical threats after a comment made during a gaming video on her gaming channel gets twisted and goes viral. Gloria is exploring and videoing the strange creature she's found in the cove, when men come and try to kidnap her. The "creature" comes to her rescue, saving her and her dog from the kidnappers. Gloria should be afraid of the huge tentacled creature but she feels safe with him, especially when they are caged together in an alien ship.
I loved all these characters. Everyone all together on the Homeship really is a big happy family. This was fast paced and action packed. There were multiple abductions, rescues, sly betrayals with Government detentions to overcome. Lu and Gloria were so sweet as they got to know each other and worked out the kinks of cultural misunderstandings. There also was plenty of steam as they learned about each other's anatomy.
I highly recommend this series. Both books so far have been highly entertaining with lovely characters. I can't wait for the rest of the stories in this series. Hopefully Ken and Baht will find their lady loves soon.
Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Book 2 of the Urf Oomons series. The epilogue in Mandy’s book set things up for this one. Lu is hiding on Earth, and enamored with a human. We get cameos from most of the secondary characters, except Baht the spider dude, but his book is next, so we’ll catch up with him soon. My only real complaint was that I wanted more updates on the babies.
Bottom Line- I didn’t enjoy this as much, but it was still good, and I recommend giving it a shot if you read the first one. Gloria and Lu were missing that something (I didn’t feel the commitment/dedication/respect from Gloria) that Mandy and Seven had, and it took a while for things to get moving. Once they were reunited with the others it picked up for me. I’m interested to see where it goes, but I’m a smidge overwhelmed with all the balls in the air. Ken needs an Oomon, Sal and Shawn are still around, the babies, more secondary characters in the mix, all the humans sprinkled around to rescue, the cliffy, etc. Baht’s up next.
I enjoyed the 1st book but couldn’t finish this one. Gloria got on my last nerve. Plus there just wasn’t any super sexy chemistry between lu and her. It’s a pass for me.
4.4 stars. Ok. I feel like maybe the author read my review of the first book. I mean, I know she didn’t, but it feels like all the things I loved about this were things I was wanting from the first book.
The plot was fun. These ‘Homeworlders’ are just as freaking cute as the first time, thinking everything humans do is completely and utterly adorable.
Lu is protective and possessive, but also a bit uncomfortable of his own violence. The sex they have is brief but also super sexy and a bit of a fun power exchange. And the little bit of dirty talk we got was pretty damn hot.
I loved it. I wish the ending hadn’t left us on a cliffhanger/setup for the next book. I also didn’t really enjoy Mandy’s attitude throughout this book. She was just a bit too much, for me.
But still, I had a really good time, and I’m glad I read it. Hopefully the next book is just as good, if not better.
At the end of the previous book we find Lu stranded on Earth and becoming besotted with Gloria, whom he protects from being abducted by men, only for them both to be abducted by the grey aliens. Eventually Lu (with Gloria in tow) ends up back on his ship with Ken and Seven (and Mandy) and of course, there's feelings. Lu is intrigued by what Seven has with Mandy and feels very protective toward Gloria.
Lu can camouflage. So Lu stalks Gloria all over the ship whilst she is blissfully unaware. Until she isn't and then oh my goodness! THAT tentacled sex is even better than book 1 🥵 . So. Much. Hotter. And Lu. Oh Lu. Who knew you had all those latent dominant tendencies? 🔥🔥🔥
So, in summary:
tentacles: ✔ stalker behaviour: ✔ dominant alpha vibes: ✔ human women kicking interplanetary commerce: ✔
this was a pretty fun read but now I am salivating for Baht's book! Because.
Although this book could be standalone, I think readers needed to read the 1st book. It's better that way. For one, it's easier to understand the universe, the aliens (or as they preferred to be called "a sentient"), and who to root for. Trust me, it's fun that way. Anyway, the story of the trio Homeworlders continued with Cthulhu (or Lu) who crashed landing on earth, specifically in a lake near a secluded cottage; a cottage where Gloria a-games-influencers de-stressed. Lu who watched from faraway while hiding from his enemy fell for her without him himself knowing. And then bad things happened (from being abducted to being held captive by the Government) and Lu kept on saving Gloria. Oh btw, imagine Lu like Ursula, but bald male. Kinda.
I liked this series. It was sweet yet funny. Gloria inner monologue was hilarious, though I preferred Mandy's sense of freedom. But the dynamic between 3 socially-awkward-Homeworlders and these 2 learn-as-they-go sassy human females worked. And I enjoyed every bit of turn of events. Despite being kidnapped, being held by the Government, up to being in an intergalactic court, the story felt light and fun. And definitely sexy!!
I couldn't wait for Baht story next. And Ken. Uh oh, who would mate with Ken?!
No virgin Human female, octopus-liked Homeworlder alien Dual PoV, 1st person No condoms, natural birth control No cheating, No OW/OM, NO exes No drama/angst Safe read, HEA, no epilogue Overall score: 4 fun sexy romance stars
Tentacle alien Lu gets stranded on Earth where he meets human Gloria. She seems to have a knack for getting kidnapped.
In this second installment of "Urf Oomons" (alien phonetic for "Earth Humans") we meet also with Mandy and Seven, our romantic pairing from book one.
While the lack of technical probability in a science fiction environment gets even more obvious in this story than in the first, it was still a well paced tale with likeable characters and lots of feels.
once more another fun, ridiculously entertaining read about characters that have big tentacles but even bigger personalities. This series does NOT take itself seriously at all and yet still manages to make good, poignant messages about relevant issues. If you're into alien romances, I would def recommend.
Not going to lie, I have genuinely enjoyed how besotted both Lu and Seven have become with their humans. I mean, they may be massive, tentacled aliens on the surface, but they're pure marshmallow underneath. And I'm here for it.
Lu's special lady friend is Gloria and she's not in a great place when Lu first comes across her. She's laying low and Lu has to enact some violence on people who want to do her harm. Then they get abducted (yes, Lu, an alien, gets abducted by aliens. Heh.) and a series of miscommunications and missed opportunities has them separated once they get free.
Which Lu is 100% not okay with. So he works with Mandy to make sure his special someone makes it back to his side. While these Homeworlders and possessive and a little obsessive, they're also extremely careful not to cross lines that have been set for them. Which means that miscommunication from before leaves Lu thinking Gloria wants nothing to do with him (despite her agreeing to join him on Mandy's ship) and has him skulking about incognito.
Then things get even more hairy when Gloria goes missing and forces conspire to keep the two of them apart. Forces include (but are not limited to) slavers, judiciary committees, another human, and bounty hunters. Look, there's a lot going on here and yet Gloria and Lu find time to get over their miscommunication and hook up in a big way.
Like I said, I'm genuinely enjoying how these big, terrifying aliens just go gaga over their special someone.
Gloria is on vacation at a Florida beach house and has felt like something is watching her. Paddling in her secluded cove, she notices a well-concealed octopus-like creature under her kayak. This one is odd since it looks like an octopus but has claws on the end of fingers, and a mouth full of teeth! Her dog sees it too and starts barking wildly. She had prepared for this sighting this time and strapped a waterproof camera under her kayak to get video of it. She believes it could be a new species! Her dog barks again, but this time toward shore where a truck is coming down her private driveway! She is afraid and her phone is back at the house. The two men spot her and tell her she has to leave since they rented the place for the weekend. Before they can talk about it, her dog barks furiously and drowns them out. So she goes back to shore – but they grab her and inject her with something that knocks her out. Lu is not sure what they are doing, but smells the medicinal odor. When they kicked the dog, Lu headed to shore.
Gloria eventually finds out that Lu is a tentacle alien! They are captured by the aliens he had escaped from, but he recognizes a spider friend being held also and they begin their escape. Will they make it off the ship? Where can they run to? And now that Lu got a translation device for Gloria, they can actually communicate. What kind of future waits ahead for them?
This second book in the series was just as funny and enjoyable as the first. In my opinion it was actually *steamier* than the first! Love reading about the wild universe Bebe Harper has created— it’s so unique from other SFR and she always makes me laugh out loud
Chasing Cthulhu : Urf Oomons Book Two By Bebe Harper
To truly understand this book you must first read Mandy and the Tentacle Monster. While it follows other characters the events which happen in Chasing Cthulhu are the result of those in the previous book.
Gloria and Lu can't help being fascinated with each other, Gloria because she is curious about this mysterious sea creature she keeps getting a glimpse of and Lu because there is just something about this tiny human that draws him in. He should be leaving, hiding from the slavers that he escaped from, but instead he is watching this tiny human and her strange companion animal. When she is attacked Lu has no choice but to intervene which sets off a series of events leading to Gloria being Kidnapped multiples times and Lu learning just how attached he has become to his little Gloria.
I have to start off by saying that I Hate (with a capital H) cliff-hanger endings, so while I enjoyed the story it is now overshadowed by the big, BUM BUM BUM at the end. This is not helped by the fact that there is no date for the next book in the series. Even so, I loved how realistic this series ends up being. None of the characters are amazing, they all have very clear faults and, can i say human, failings. It is these faults that make this story so great. No one is the hero and even the characters, Gloria and Mandy to name a few, are not heroic or unselfish. In fact Mandy annoys me with her attempts to save other humans and Gloria does some really silly things. Dramatic irony is not present in this book which makes the events even more gripping as you are as shocked, upset and surprised as the characters you are experiencing them with are. I also enjoyed the fact that the personalities of Mandy and Gloria were almost opposed at times as they worked their way through the story.
Overall, I would recommend this book (and the previous) to everyone that doesn't mind tentacles used in creative ways, clueless aliens and equally clueless humans in a universe that doesn’t respect either species, and stories that end in cliffhangers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This one has some pros and cons to it. On the up side, the characters are cute, and it's not the same old non-consensual nonsense. The aliens are actually endearing, and have some personality and emotions - not just tentacles. The MRA minor characters stalking the main female protagonist were an interesting addition.
Call me old-fashioned, but I admit I was really expecting this to have more sex scenes than fluffy romance and pointless dialogue. The prose is clunky and cloyingly sweet, not unsurprisingly for something probably ghost-written from a commission on Upwork. There are some flirting scenes and allusions to sex and breeding, but it's shockingly modest - and frankly, that is not the reading experience I was looking for. I liked the romance enough, and it was an interesting twist on the genre - but it just wasn't the most important part of the book for this reader, anyway.
The anatomy lesson is painfully awkward, not sexy. The sex itself it irritatingly brief. All in all, I don't particularly recommend this if you're actually looking for a work of erotica that delivers the goods.
Gloria and Lu had even less relationship building than Seven and Tiny did in the first book. Instead we are told that Lu watches her while camouflaged because of a pull that can't be explained.
Beyond their relationship Sal and Shawn play a role in this book which left me scratching my head with inuendos and trying to see who is lying about what.
The final chapter sets up for a massive cliffhanger but where I figured Ken would be next instead we leave tentacles for spider bites.
Overall it was cute but not hard to put down most of the time. However, one thing that had a massive impact on the score was issues with editing. There were misspelled words and random periods added in the middle of a sentence which breaks the immersion.
I didn’t expect much after the first book. That one was just ok but it presented an alien HEA with not unpleasant characters even if emotions, character, and interpersonal development were missing so I thought I’d see how the second book hit. This one was worse. The plot was weaker and there were way too many abductions.
I'm glad Gloria has introspection enough to know she's an asshole, because she sertainly is and a bumbling idiot to boot. I hated being in her head and didn't care about anything happening to her -- it was one misfortune after another anyway.
Don't blink, and don't get comfortable because you're not staying here. Just when you think you have it all sorted out, Kabamm. This is such a fun group of characters. You don't just have the female main character and her love interest. You have a whole cast of people you want to know, some intimately, some you want to poke, some you want to knock in the head, and a few you will scratch your head and think "What's up with you?". This has a vaguely Firefly feel to it, with good sense of timing to the humor. Separate personalities, not everyone painted with cliches and flat like so many who try at humor. You'll want to come aboard, not jump ship and I see worlds of possibilities for future tales. The book is well written, engaging, entertaining and a fun take on the Alien abduction theme. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another Bebe Harper hit! The Urf Oomans series is delightful! Steamy, funny, and full of excitement! Chasing Cthulhu, finds our heroine, Gloria, being both the observer and the observed by the tentacled alien, Lu. Through a series of misadventures, they find themselves BOTH abducted by aliens of the unfriendly sort and Lu does his best to protect her. Eventually they escape but are seperated until fate brings them together again, this time with Gloria and her pup, Princess Peach, living on the same ship as Lu(and as previously seen in Mandy and the Tentacle Monster!). I LOVED this story. It was so clever and witty and incredibly sexy. Plus, Bebe Harper KNOWS HOW TO WRITE. I read this in one sitting because it was so interesting and well written, I couldn't put it down! I love a fun, sexy, interspecies romp and Bebe Harper knows how to deliver.
I have to say that I love Lu. He tries to be such a gentleman with Gloria. Not overstep her oomon boundaries and be as respectful of her as possible. The fact that he doesn't try to push and is totally unable to play games is really refreshing. He has no illusions to how others might see him and yet he is still kind and polite, unless you are a slaver. Gloria is fab. She knows her own mind and tries to be as helpful as she can. They are s great match in that she doesn't easily tell lies unless it is to shady government types (I had the anti-MIB in my head for them). Personally I think Shawn is rotten whatsit just saying!
I cannot tell a lie: this book contains graphic sex with a tentacle monster. But I honestly don't care. The story is excellent, the characters are loveable, and Chapter 13 is an instruction manual for how to deal with the government after you've been abducted (I was howling with laughter- "Neat." ). I'm so glad the rollicking fun of Mandy continued in Cthulu. However, the ending was an unexpected, serious, cliffhanger slap in the face (current characters and dog are fine).
This one was so good! I think it was more in-depth. It was super hot for my second venture into this kind of story. I don’t put it with Ice Planet Barbarians, I don’t put it with the Harem Station series. It’s easier to follow along, cuts out a lot of deep detail, but it freaking works. I am really curious now, like vested in Baht’s (so?) story.
I can’t tell you how I did my usual eye roll when these books scrolled across my newsfeed in my book group (obviously I can) but I can tell you I’m so glad I went ahead and read them anyway. I do not have a monster or an alien kink, but if I did, these would be the books for it! Well done!
This book was a fun follow up to Mandy and the Tentacle Monster! I appreciated how fast paced it was, though I’m not sure I liked Gloria as much as I liked Mandy - unfortunate because I really liked Lu.
I wish we had seen more of the babies from book 1, even though I understand why we didn’t.
I really loved this one, it was soo funny, it Also had action, romance, and steam! Baht story is next, I'm really interested in his character since the last book! But I would definitely read the first book 1st, which is on AUDIBLE now, can't wait for the audible for this one as well.
This one is a little over the top. I think Gloria gets abducted almost every day, sometimes twice! I really liked Cthulhu (a.k.a. Lu), Who was over-the-top dedicated to Gloria and, it turns out, a little bossy in bed. Hot. This is one of those stories where no one’s ever really that evil and it all works out in the end.
