Bookshelf Whispers: A Tale of Love, Life and Legacy

Rate this book
The novel is a period love story involving Emilie, a foreign exchange student, visiting the Prabhu Wada, where she falls in love with Akinsa, a resident of the Wada and a passionate, aspiring Kabbadi player. The cultural differences create conflict and strife which Emilie tries to overcome by her grit and determination. Will they make it, or will it end in heartbreak? The book very effectively portrays the impact of prevalent socio-cultural, traditional, and patriarchal influences, on the lives of the inhabitants of the Wada and their interpersonal relationships. The turbulence, the agony and ecstasy of relationships has been depicted very subtly and poignantly. The complexities of relationships and human nature with all its vagaries and idiosyncrasies, have remained unchanged down the ages and that's what makes this narrative very contemporary, simultaneously adding the element of nostalgia of a bygone era.

Bookshelf Whispers by Bhagyashree Ranade is the story of Emilie, a foreign exchange student from the U.K., and Akinsa, a kabaddi player. Akinsa is a resident of Prabhu Wada which is an ancient house. Soon they fall in love but conflict starts arising due to their different cultural background. Will they be able to overcome this or end their relationship?

I got into this book because of the name itself. The author has portrayed the characters well in a subtle yet powerful. The use of the correct amount of lucidity and difficult words makes the narration fascinating. The love between Akinsa and Emilie is portrayed beautifully and purely. You can feel like you are watching a romantic movie when you read about certain scenes.

I loved the illustrations as well and the use of Marathi words with explanations added a very personal touch to the book.
If you like contemporary reads which touch on several issues of society like cultural differences, patriarchy, etc then you can read it.

"One of her father's strongest values that influenced Renu, apart from helping others directly, was education. She developed a strong belief that education provided a way out of poverty."

BOOK: Bookshelf Whispers: A tale of love, life & legacy
AUTHOR: #bhagyasreeranade
GENRE: #Contemporaryromance
PUBLISHER: @notionpress.books
RATING: 3.5 💫

Bookshelf Whispers is a periodic love story that speaks about the cultural differences between a foreign exchange student, Emilie and an aspiring Indian kabaddi player from Prabhu wada (Wada - is a traditional mansion. wadas in Maharashtra are constructed with cortyard. these wadas are free of forts. only the shaniwar wada is constructed with fort. ), Akinsa. The book not only tells the story of young love, but also about friendship, marriage, empowered and determined women, relationships, the wada living and also about people and their principles. There is definitely nostalgia in the air when we read this book about traditional living and family but the story could have had a certain depth, if it was written portraying scenarios playing out in each characters life, with the conversations they would have had etc instead of just narrating their story. The book also ends in a cliffhanger, but I wouldn't comment on that because from an authors point of view it can be a brilliant move.

Have you even been in a dilemma like you want to read a book, but you're just to afraid to read it. You know what I mean? And so now, after having read the book, here I am, just contemplating everything. It was 1 am and I was just babbling about it. I could probably write a 300 page essay about it!

A beautiful story and a rollercoaster of emotions. I was on the edge of my seat at certain points and was a pile of mush through others. The characters, the way the author tells this story, I was hooked from the very first page. It was written with such detail, such thought. I can close my eyes right now and picture everything that was described, shown, and spoken about in this story. I wanted so bad to jump to the end just to know how it all ended, but you cannot get to the end without going on the journey first. I loved how it pulled on so many emotions and the reality of our world.

Talking about the main plot of this story, this story revolves around two main characters - Akinsa, a young Kabaddi Player and Emilie, a foreign exchange. The twist was that they both belong to two different cultures and traditions, but they fall in love with each other but different cultures and traditions may create problems in their life, so you need to read the whole story to know whether they can make their relationship successful. I am really impressed with the plot because it is portraying the reality of the difference in cultures and traditions. Wonderful read!

The cover page and the title of the book are apt for the story frame. This book is about an aimless guy who is struggling with his life and career and a foreign exchange student who is walking on the wall like a cat without a determination of love or fate.

The protagonist Akinsa, is a kabbadi player living his aimless life which makes their parents unsatisfied. A goal-oriented foreign exchange student Emilie, who came to Prabhu Wada has fallen in love with Akinsa.

Then what could I say there are so many conflicts between them. Here culture is the tremendous gateway for them. In the meantime, Emilie has gone to finish her studies and have to return to her native USA.

Here she checkmates.
Should she accept her life with an aimless/jobless lover?
Or should she move to her native leaving all her memories with Akinsa and their immense love? Unfortunately, her parents were also unsatisfied with her choice.
What would be the decision of Emilie?
is a moving story.

Language is rational. Everyone can understand the story as well. Cultural, ancient human values are allies in this story. Overall, I recommend this book to all.

Bookshelf Whispers book by Bhagyashree Ranade is a novel rich with characters. The story revolves around a period love story between Akinsa and Emilie. Akinsa is a resident of Wada and an aspiring Kabbadi player while Emilie is a foreign exchange student who visited the Prabhu Wada.

There are many other characters such as Surya, Gayatri, Aditi, Renu, Druv and so on. I liked the part and idea of Wada, the character description is very well conveyed by the author. Emilie being a foreign exchange student tries to overcome the cultural differences by her willpower and determination.

The book focuses on many aspects such as socio-cultural, patriarchal and traditional influences on the lives of the inhabitants of the Wada. This book is not just a love story but beyond that, the story is filled with many incidents that change the entire course of the book.

The narration is lucid and interesting. The language is pretty simple and beginner level. I loved the cover and the design. Grab the book to know more about Akinsa and other residents of Wada.

I wanted to pick up the book solely because of it's title. It made me think - what would a bookshelf even whisper about? It would probably whisper stories and their spoilers...

Well that's exactly what this book is! Bookshelf Whispers is set in Prabhu Wada, Pune and revolves around the lives of it's inhabitants. Each person has their individual story, and all of them are weaved together beautifully to create Bookshelf Whispers-Whispers: A tale of love, life and legacy.

Starting with a beautiful description of Pune and the Wada, the author introduces us to the various characters- Surya and Gayatri, Emelie, Akinsa,  Renu and Dhruv. Emelie is a foreign exchange student while Akinsa is a typical Indian Marathi boy. Their backgrounds are vastly different yet they fall in love with each other. This is their story.

The pace of the book is slow, it lingers on the description of the characters and surroundings a lot. It would have been a lot more interesting if the story was fast paced and focused on actions.

My ratings- 4/5. A good read!

Can you describe the beauty of mountains through a mere set of words or elaborate the different strings which are found in the feelings of love? Well, in both of the above mentioned things, I feel that if you read out this book, you would find both of them described by the author in a way which one can prefer to refer with the term magnificent. I've totally found this read to be an interesting and a considerable read. With perfect amount of blend of emotions and the turns made available, the book turns into a kind of read which makes the reader kind of stay indulged until the epilogue. Characterization of Abby, Druv, Aditi and the mention of different dates from different years, heights of the depth of mountains and the reference used from the movies hailing from 80's were all used as a way to blend in order to make this book a thoroughly entertaining interactive book. I liked the narration and the tale narrated.

Bookshelf Whispers

When I saw the title of the book-'Bookshelf Whispers',I felt this will be more of horror or suspense. But no...it s motivating, inspiring and is a love story.

The protagonist of the story is Akinsa.Akinsa is a person like us(many of us) who don't know what he is going to do with his life or what he wants and aspires from the life.He is quite unaware of his true potential.

But Surya sees Akinsa's potential.Surya trains him and polishes his Kabaddi Skills.

The story takes a romantic turn when Emile enters into the story.Emile gives a romantic feel to the story.Their friendship blooms into love in no time.

Story takes a major turn when the reality hits to Emile and Akinsa.Emile is from UK and she came to India for just her study purpose. Also, she is confused how and what to introduce Akinsa infront of her parents. There are few other things which comes between them. What are they? How they affect the story? And what's next?
Grab the book, read it and get to know the whole story.
_______________
Talking about my experience:

I liked how the story started. The story took time to grab my attention but when Surya and Akinsa came together in frame,it completely had my attention.

Also, the reader in me aroused when Emile came into the picture.Emile gave a romantic turn to the story. And I loved how the cute things were described.

The book has few other characters which add spice to the story.

The language used is simple and easy.Maybe the book will take time to have your attention but once you get the grip it will be an engaging read.

The story is not an unique one but its bit different. The book is engaging, inspiring and heartbreaking at moments.

Also, the title of the book is unique and different and definitely will arouse your curiousity.

A very good book which you can read anytime.

Set in Prabhu Wada, 'Bookshelf Whispers' narrates one such story which has layers of simplicity and emotions. Prabhu Wada, is owned by Surya and Gayatri. A guy named Akinsa is a resident of this Wada and is a Kabaddi player, but soon he falls in love with Emilie who is a foreign exchange student and is a visitor of this wada. Belonging from different parts of this world and culture, will the two end up together?

This book is surely a beautiful one. It's written beautifully, sharing a lovely essence. The story is not hared off and narrated smoothly. I recommend if you are looking forward to reading something new!

🌸Once I read that....

"It is easy enough to be pleasant when life flows like a song but the man worthwhile is the man who can smile when life goes dead wrong."

Well, this book proves it right!

So, would you like to read a book full of action, adventure, thrill, and jaw-dropping suspense?

Or, are you a fan of "Toofan", "Wake up Sid", kinda movies, looking for an awesome read?

If yes, then this book is for You!

So, let's see.....

📕What's in it?

The story starts with "Prabhu Wada", a big residence with a vast history.

The owner Surya and his wife Gayatri are back now and have modified this old place as a shelter to many middle-class families.

Many people from different parts of the country stay there and one of them is Akinsa's family.

Akinsa is our hero, a seemingly messed up brat with no goals. He's like in a dark pool of confusion, anger.

But Surya sees something special and decides to mentor him.

He ignites his kabaddi skills, his desire to do something meaningful. And now Akinsa aims to be the greatest player in his field.

But his parents are not happy with it!

They want him to focus on his studies and get a job first. This creates a conflict for Akinsa.

Meanwhile, he meets Emilie, a foreign student who just started living with Surya and Gayatri.

Their friendship keeps growing day by day.
Mutual love for poetry, nature strengthens their bond even more.

And then, comes the day when they both express their feelings to each other.

Such a magical moment it was!!

But very soon reality hits her, Akinsa has no plans for the future, he's not into studies and sports doesn't seem much promising as well....

So, how could she spend her entire life with him?

What would she tell her parents? Plus, it's her final year in India. She has to go back to the UK after it.

On the other hand, Surya's health is critical and he's very concerned about his family, his Prabhu Wada community.

And.... oh no! Emilie's parents are coming...

They aren't impressed with Akinsa.

One side love, one side life.... What would Emilie choose?

And Surya, Gayatri, they are.... They are....

Read this book to know what happens next :)

🔷What I liked the most:-

1️⃣. First of all the concept is very impressive.

I mean unlike those cliche stories where poor guy meets rich girl and gets married.

This book is on a whole other level. It goes to the depth of love, responsibilities, heartbreak and makes us realize some of the most eye-opening truths of life.

2️⃣. The writing style is good as well.

I liked the approach of narrating the current, and past situations parallelly.

It adds thrill to overall reading. Plus, it gives us the power to live the situations portrayed in it.

And man! The author's way of explaining so many things is no less than magic.

3️⃣. The USP of this book is the amazing lessons it shares with us.

Seriously guys! This one book could teach you more than years of schooling!

💫It has lessons on:-

✓Importance of bad days

✓Power of true love combined with a sense of responsibility

✓The art of finding good in some of the toughest times, etc....

Plus, those quotes, guys, they are awesomeee. Literally!

⚡However some over-detailed parts need a little bit of editing and then this book could do wonders.

💥So, if you are looking for an awesome read, something great.

Then, go with this one. I am sure it will be a lifelong experience for you.

Cheers!!

Are you interested in reading romance novels having an element of nostalgia of a bygone era? Then the book "Bookshelf Whispers: A Tale of Love, Life and Legacy" is the right pick for you.

The story revolves around the inhabitants of Prabhu Wada, which is a beautiful ancient house consisting of three floors and rooms arranged around an open courtyard. The book has a diverse cast of characters which include Surya, Gayatri, Akinsa, Emilie, Renu and Druv. However, the book mainly focuses on the characters of Emilie and Akinsa. Emilie is a foreign exchange student visiting Prabhu Wada, where she falls in love with Akinsa who is a passionate, aspiring Kabbadi player. They face a lot of obstacles because of their cultural differences, but both of them, particularly Emilie, try to overcome this with grit and determination.

Will their relationship strengthen over time or will they go their separate ways? Grab this book to find out.

In the book, there is a chapter titled 'Abby, Druv's Love'. Abby is a four-month old puppy who is adopted by Druv after he was abandoned by his former owner and left on the streets and the author very beautifully conveys the feelings of the voiceless animal which is definitely my favourite part of the book. The title, 'Bookshelf Whispers', is used in a metaphorical way where Prabhu Wada is the bookshelf and the people in the house are the books, each having their own journey and a different story. The book is actually a reservoir of old memories and sentiments which I found quite creative as each character is given its own unique importance.

This book is an easy short read and you can finish it in one go, but you will feel that some of the context is rushed. There are illustrations in the book too which definitely make it more interesting and fun to read. You will also find a lot of Marathi words but it won't be a hassle for the reader as proper explanations are provided. The usage of vernacular words in the narrative also provides a cultural context. There are many unexpected twists and turns in the narrative and this will keep you hooked till the very end. This is a great read which is totally recommended.

It's a book moving around Prabhu wada established by Surya & Gayatri. It's not a wada but it's a place full of memories emotions feelings those can only be feeled by heart not read by mind.
.
Akinsa is a simple young boy belonged to Prabhu Wada who is a kabbadi player but Surya inspired him to develop new skills in life like painting & poems. He has some issues which he kept within himself.
.
Emilie a foreigner came to India & she is a foreign exchange student. She met with Akinsa & a bud of love started blossoming within themselves.
.
But suddenly the story took an unexpected turn which just made everything worse for everyone.
.
To know more about it grab the book & give it a try.
👉𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 :-
🙂 The cover of the book is nicely designed with a blueish shuttle colour that's really eye catching with these doodle acts those are really fascinating.
🙂 Writing style of the book is nice it's more or less like a contemporary style of writing with a large amount of feelings n emotions.
🙂 The language used in the book is of moderate level. It's not smooth at all nor very complicated. It stands in between it with a bit of tough vocabulary skills used that's the reason I am not going to recommend this book for beginners or those who are in their early stage of reading.
🙂 All characters are nicely developed in the story. Everyone has their own importance in the book that just hooked you up & keep your intrest intact till the last page.
🙂 Narration is good with an effortless transition of scene to scene. If you are able to connect the plot line once then you will find it is moving in a very buttery smooth manner without any complications.
🙂 Book is fastly paced & somehow I felt author did a compromise with the description of scenes in the book. In some parts the haste can be easily noticable.

•It features a unique and attractive cover page that well represents the story's interior substance and narrative. The title is perfect for the story.

•Surya and Gayatri lived in Prabhu Wada, a classic Pune home. It was a three-story home brimming with life, love, family, and wonder. There used to be a lot of middle-class families that lived there. The narrative follows the love affair of Akinsa, the son of the Wada's warden, and Emilie, a foreign exchange student. The novel begins with Akinsa abandoning his house in Wada by just leaving a letter, causing the whole Wada community to get concerned and begin searching for him, while Emilie was on her way back to the UK. They began to communicate through poetry conversations. Emilie quickly became captivated with his charm, creativity, and enthusiasm. Emilie, on the other hand, was raised in a more equitable environment where her parents were respectful of one another, whereas Akinsa used to take his mother for granted and was completely reliant on her. Emilie used her strength and drive to overcome cultural and lifestyle disparities that used to cause friction and struggle between them.

What will this relationship's outcome be? What are their plans for dealing with these differences? Get all of these answers by purchasing your copy now!!

•The influence on individuals when they are associated with emotions but are spread through social, economic, and cultural standards is very well depicted in the book. Even though centuries have gone by, the author wishes to emphasize that the complexity of relationships and human nature with all of its hard wiring have stayed constant. The novel begins by describing all of the characters and their relationships, making it simple to follow. In between, the author has utilized the Marathi language, which would help to connect the locals. The author has described all the circumstances very lively!!

Highly Recommended!!

Bookshelf whispers
By Bhagyashree Ranade
____________

This is take of love, life and legacy.
As the story starts we get to know about the history of the Wada which is joint family. We get to know the scenic backdrop of this place. Set in prabhu wada, Surya and Ganyatri are the elderly couples who are very caring and loving in their ways. But Akinsa has some issues too. Surya motivates his skills of painting, poems, he was also more into sports. One day suddenly he goes missing. When nobody has any clue and almost everyone looses hope after many years he suddenly returns. After his return to Pune, a friendship between him and a foreigner girl Emilie( foreign exchange student)starts to bloom slowly. When the girl and the aspiring kabbadi player Akinsa become emotionally attached being in poetry discussion groups, the cultural origin and societal differences between them also start to line up coming from two different cultural origins. Rural and western. Arguments start to rise between them too. As Surya is happy as he has somewhat become responsible, Gayatri understands the real problem with Akinsa 's uncertain nature.

Will this relationship strengthen over time even while facing backlash from the society, what kind of challenges will they go through or their inner conflicts over their differences will break them apart or only time will save their deepest bonds? In this ocean of live how will their ties survive? Let the bookshelves whisper. The narration is beautiful and kept simple. The story has fast pace. The events keep us intrigued till the end. Emotions are captured well. Subtly they are portrayed where needed.
It's a story of love, drama, revelation, welcoming new changes, real meaning of family, changing of conventional notion and perspective, managing differences and finding what really matters in the long run of life.

Bookshelf Whispers
Rate: 4/5

First of all, I would like to commend on the author's intellectual play of words in naming this book. The story revolves around the inhabitants of Prabhu Wada which not only houses people but also tons of memories and rich bonding among the inhabitants.
Here the Prabhu Wada is metaphorically structured like a bookshelf with all the floors merging into an open courtyard. From this bookshelf called Prabhu Wada, you can take out any book (the inhabitants) and make it come alive with their life stories. Few such books include the love story germinating between Emilie and Akinsa, or the familial bond between Druv and Abby or legacy shouldered by Surya and Gayatri.

When it comes to love, it is relies more on the mutual understanding and emotionally connecting with the eccentric qualities of the individual. Love is so swift and yet so calm that you fail to notice each others cultural background, religious inclinations or societal diktats. How do you tell your heart not to love a person as he or she is from so and so country, religion or background?
After all, you fall in love with the person and not the external factors. This is the dilemma faced by Emilie and Akinsa.

Pros:
1) I loved the cover and the subtle word-play of the title
2) The character development is very fulfilling. I could emotionally connect with the characters and mentally be a part of their lives
3) The realistic understanding of the author regarding the prevailing socio-cultural fabric of the society.
4) The heart-touching plotline

Cons:
At times, I felt too much of text/content was clubbed together which made it a bit monotonous and a heavy read in certain instances.

Overall, the story is so beautiful that I could manage to overlook its flaws. I recommend this book for one and all.

"Imagine a bookshelf, books placed to economize the shelf usage, at times kept slanting, flat, straight and vertical. The contents, fused and surrounded by numerous matters, depicted by times, about the lives of people in a similar situation, a parody of sorts; happy at times and heartbreaking at others."
.
This is a story of different facades of human mind, culture and the challenges they face including love, life and legacy (as suggested in the subtitle).
.
Prabhu Wada is a resident to a cluster of people which had their individual life's journey. The lead characters are Emilie and Akinsa who are driven by this emotion called love. Desptie the diverse background, their mutual interest in travel, poetry and nature brought them even closer. The unconditional bonding between Abby (the dog) and Druv is worth reading. Surya and Gayatri had their fare share of fullfilled life within the book.
.
I chose reading this book mainly for the book cover and the title. The blurb seemed something wonderful to offer. I had this idea that the book deal with the love story of these two young people. But that was just a quarter part of the whole story compilation. It had few of the characters whose life history has also been bought to limelight. Because love can not be the only element to discuss. The book shared the diverse life forms of different people that lived together.
.
The writing was smooth with an average reading pace. I felt the contents were more of descriptive rather than any significant action or progression. The characters were unique and represented the present scenario. I wanted more volume and insights on Akinsa and Emilie's relationship because their love undeniably felt like a metaphoric poetry.
In conclusion, I didn't enjoyed the book much because it didn't proceeded as per my expectations.

As written on this beautiful cover, this is indeed a tale of love, life, and legacy.
.
Author Bhagyashree Ranade has created a lovely novel by interweaving complicated characters, situations, and relationships with sprinkling bits of culture, history, and perspectives. It focuses entirely on the raw and visceral aspect of life and interpersonal relationships, as well as the wada, which is extensively detailed and gives us a sense of capture of the backdrop and surrounds. Akinsa is a perplexed young man with a strong enthusiasm for poetry and kabaddi, but his future is uncertain, and he hasn't given much consideration to it. Emilee is a student on an exchange programme. She is vivacious and full of life and she wishes to be successful in her area. Emilee is fascinated by India's distinct culture and values; she has never encountered these social cultural ideas, patriarchy, or way of life before. Despite their differences, Emilee and Akinsa were drawn together by their shared passion for poetry and nature, and love developed between them.
Will they, however, be able to live happily ever after or will there be an endgame?

Get your copy today and immerse yourself in this story of love, life, and legacy.
.
The author's writing style is clear, and the terminology is simple, yet I felt the narration lacked smoothness at points. However, when it comes to the tragic side of the story, the characters are well-drawn, and there are many perspectives and subplots in the story that sometimes move your heart, sometimes evoke nostalgia, and leave you with mixed feelings, but overall represent the genuine essence of life.
.
Overall, this is a quick and enjoyable read that transports the reader to Maharashtrian settings.

Book Name: Bookshelf Whispers

Author: Bhagyashree Ranade

Genre: Fiction

"Bookshelf Whispers" by Bhagyashree Ranade is a narrative of the residents of the Prabhu Wada. Prabhu Wada is an ancient house and has testified lots of things for decades. To begin with the cover and the title of the book, the cover is quite beautiful and the title is intriguing, the sole reason for picking this book up was the title. After finishing the book, I realised that the term "Bookshelf Whispers" is metaphorical for the Prabhu Wada as the book contains the memoir of people who are directly or indirectly connected to the house. Here, we can say that the house, the Prabhu Wada is a bookshelf and all the inhabitants are the books arranged on the bookshelf and we as a reader are going through each book one by one as we are reading the memoir of the tenants of the Prabhu Wada.

Talking about the main plot of this story, then the story revolves around Akinsa, a young Kabaddi Player and Emilie, a foreign exchange student from the U.K. They both belong to two different communities, cultures, traditions, but they fall in love with each other and despite the difference, they want to relish their future together. What is going to be the result of this relationship? To know you have to read the book first.

Kudos to the author for writing the chap "Abby, Dhruv's Love". Abby, adopted by Dhruv, is a 4-month old puppy whose former owner has left him on the road. In this chapter, the author has given a voice to the voiceless creature in such a beautiful way that it touched my heart. Through this chap, the author has tried to give a message to the reader that animals also have a right to live and grow up in a caring environment.

Do read and don't forget to share your views in the comment section.

The cover of the book intrigued me to read this book and if I say honestly it has a story that can be loved dearly and from them, we can learn something that " Never give up on life always try to learn something new and grow".

The book says the story related to the house which was claimed as a heritage site called Prabhu Wada where lived Surya and Gayatri, both were bright light who showed to light those who were in dark and kept growing with mind and respect from the people.

First reading the prologue of the book it felt like the story would be like family contention on the property but it was not, it is the story that defines the livelihood of Wada and the people who were connected with it.

It tells a tale where there is love blossoming despite social and cultural differences and shows that love has no boundaries of social and cultural differences, it just gives you the freedom to live on your choices and that is the thing which I like most about it.

It shows the journey of some women's who created a difference in society and their willpower to make their life beautiful without any regret.

I liked the way the author has moulded the story and I felt that ends says when your heart says something except it and works on it with full potential and never regret the decision you take because of that decision you are here where you can look into your past and learn something from it and move forward for a new journey because life never ends till your body leaves the mortal world.

I had some difficulty reading this book because of a lack of concentration but when I read in full silence I understood all the stories the book depict and kind of liked it.

If you are into reading unique and light stories then you can choose this book and have a good read.

In this book by "Bhagyashree Ranade" there were many characters and with them came their various stories and life lessons. Although I like all the other characters like Aditi , conductor Steve, Druv, Abby and Renu but still among them my favourite and stand out the most to me were "Surya" a patriotic dependable man with principles, a guidance counselor for some yet he don't oversteps the boundaries set by the society, "Akinsa" a shy boy later grew into an independent, rebellious boy and Emilie a foreign exchange student with her values and, very obedient, "Gayatri" an insecure , wary and quiet woman who constantly tries to appease others.
I loved the main story of Akinsa and Emilie so much. Two lives connected by the thread of poetry though they were like East and West in terms of their ideologies and also the brewing relationship between them raising the concerns between adults.
This was not a typical girl-boy love story. I would say that I found the story very unique. All the characters had their own unique personalities and also their actions and reactions seems plausible and real as well. They seemed normal human beings. The book talks about dreams, hopes, fate, love and most importantly struggles, persistence and relentlessness . I also liked the lu and Koko story very much. I love the message in the end of the story. The unexpected twist and turn in the story kept me on my toes till the end. Although the story is not a love story as such where hell and heaven broke loose but the sheer simplicity and reality of the life in the story didn't disappoint me. The storyline is so indian and close to home and generated so many emotions inside me while I was reading it. Overall I enjoyed the story very much.

The pandemic has prevented most of us from travelling any further than our own City. Fortunately, books still provide us safe ways to explore different cultures.

Bookshelf Whispers by Bhagyashree Ranade is set in Prabhu Wada which is a huge house where people from different culture reside together as tenants.
It is a story of Emilie, who is a foreign exchange student and Akinsa, an aspiring Kabaddi player.
Emilie falls in love with Akinsa. Due to the cultural and traditional differences, there arises conflict in their relationship.
Will they make it, or will it end in heartbreak?

This is not just a usual love story but has unique cultural aspect to it. The story has many subplots and each can evoke different feelings in reader's heart. There are many unique characters, each with their own sets of struggles ;various emotions rushed through me while I read about them. The book talks about love, destiny, dreams, struggles, hopes, persistence, family values, patriarchy and managing differences . The family values are described in best possible way and it makes one think about the importance of family.

The book portrays Marathi tradition in various ways and many Marathi words are used as well. (Thank you to the author for providing a glossary which was quite helpful to understand those words)

The illustrations in the book made the whole experience more fun and lively. The book is quite a short read and can be finished in one go but some instances felt rushed into. But other than that this was a wonderful read for me with an amazing plotline and smooth narration.

And let's take a moment to appreciate this beautiful looking cover!! I absolutely loved both, the title & the cover and once you read the book, you'll understand how relevant both are to the story.

I enjoyed reading this wonderful narration by Bhagyashree Ranade. It feels like she has put a lot of themes for every reader to learn and for building interest she has put love, emotions, learning, dreaming and exploring.
~
I like Wada's home and the character of Surya, Gayatri and Renu because they are elder and very much talented than others. Surya and Renu has some same qualities like helping people and serving people.
Surya is obeyed by everyone. He has discipline and principles of his life and because of these qualities he is respected by everyone. He helps everyone and he has a different character. After surya's the Wada community was devastated as they felt they had lost their father. Renu is same as surya in some qualities as she loves to serve people and organize opportunities for needy and poor people like her father did. Gayatri has that potential that she is better than the CEO of any company. These three are the pillars of the story and the others are roof. Aditi is a dreamer and she is an explorer also. Emilie and Akinsa are the lovers with different backgrounds but the same thinking. They both are nature enthusiasts and fond of reading and writing about nature. Druv is the brother of Emilie and she changed him a lot with her character. Every character has a different characteristics to learn and to explore. I learned very much from these characters and it feels like Bhagyashree is telling with her characters that one should be like them.
~
If you like reading interesting things with different themes or you want to get connected with the story then i will recommend you this. Every part of this book makes it more interesting.

"It is easy enough to be pleasant.
When life flows like a song
But the man worthwhile
Is the man who can smile
When life goes dead wrong".
~Bookshelf whispers ❤️

"Bookshelf whispers" by Bhagyashree Ranade,is a very heartening read, which shows love, life, cultural differences, human conflicts and traditions.

I picked this up, because of the title and the cover, honestly without checking its blurb. So I had different perspective about it. But when I finished reading it,I was not at all disappointed with the storyline. One or the other way,it came as a win win for me.

Nevermind, coming to the book,it is a period romance. It is the story of Emilie and Akinsa. Emilie is a foreign exchange student visiting the Prabhu Wada and Akinsa is an aspiring Kabaddi player, a resident of the Wada. When they met, sparks played it role and they fell in love. But soon conflicts started arising between them, because of their cultural differences.
Now how will they able to move everything aside and stay united,is really heartwarming to go through.

When I was reading it,many questions arose in me,and when I finished reading it,I was satisfied and everything made sense. Sensitive and worth discussing topics like cultural differences and human conflicts in such a great storyline, must say the author has done commendable job.

The writing style of the book is nice and simple.
The plot is described in a picturesque manner, and I have already said how I loved the cover and the title. Even the title made sense in the end.
It was a fine one time contemporary read for me.

If you love reading contemporary period romances, you should surely check this out.

Bookshelf whispers: A Tale of Love, life and legacy by Bhagyashree Ranade is a contemporary book revolving around two souls from different cultures who found love in the purest way. The story is about Emilie who is a Foreign Exchange Student visiting the Prabhu wada. She found an extraordinary yet pure love in a simple Kabaddi player named Akinsa. But was society ready to accept two people from two different countries and lifestyles to be together? Read the book to know more about these two lovers.

First of all I must say the cover of the book is very beautiful and the blue color gives a calming vibe which also can be felt in the writing style of this story.

The story depicts two souls falling in love while expressing their own passion for writing poems. It also shows the patriarchy in our society but doesn't forget the progressive side in some places.

The book is a perfect blend of geographical beauty, cultural diversity and it beautifully describes the simple lifestyle of the people of India. It shows the struggle of every middle class family and also the fear of career or future.

Each of the characters mentioned in this story has impacted the plot deeply and the character development proves the excellent craftsmanship skill of the author.

But sometimes characters were pulled in the chapters out of nowhere. Rather than creating suspense it brought some confusions. Apart from that some of the brief descriptions took focus away from the main plot. I felt that the story ended where it started and hence the message was not properly delivered.

Overall it is a light slow paced book that I will suggest to people looking for a refreshing read.

In a culture, and more importantly, at a period of time where even relationships which are out of their own respective castes are frowned upon, we get to see the love blossom between our two main protagonists, Akinsa and Emilie, who are not just from different societies but also a whole different worlds apart in the book, ‘Bookshelf Whispers’ by Bhagyashree Ranade.

During the first time when they meet, Akinsa came across as being quite an awkward boy, not having much knowledge about how to portray or conduct himself in front of Emilie, a foreign exchange student who had come to the Wada.

However, soon he picked up the courage and started acting like himself, resulting in them talking to each other and getting to know about their common likings, especially poetry.

One is a boy who was raised in a free and open environment, with not much exposure, whilst the other is a girl who was prim and proper, brought up with every possible opportunity that she required or needed. Will these two be able to adjust to the diversity? Or will their story end as soon as the time comes for Emilie to leave and go back to her home? Well, that is the plot and essence of the book.

This was a nicely written book and what I found entertaining was that along with the story of our main protagonists, there were also a lot of things that were happening simultaneously in the background as well, hence there was no dull moment as such through out the book. Hence, I am going to give this book FIVE WHISPERS STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then this book would suit your taste of read.

BOOK : 'Bookshelf Whispers' - Bhagyashree Ranade

"We will be together forever they felt, no distance, together under one roof, loving, talking, and listening"

The novel is a period of love story involving Emilie who is a foreign exchange student visiting the Prabhu Wada. There she falls in love with Akinsa, a resident of Wada.

This book is a portrayal of cultural differences and it's impact on the lives of the inhabitants of the Wada and their relationships.

This book effectively portrays the impacts of socio cultural, traditional and patriarchal influences on the contemporary society and it's group.

One side the plot carries the story of Emilie and Akinsa who gradually falls in love. But despite their cultural differences, they tries hard to find the common likes which keeps them drawn towards each other, and was overwhelmed with all the love and affection.

Other side the plot carries the story of Surya and Gayatri, who is a father and mother of Akinsa. Thier hardships to stand stable in their lives and to grow up their son.

Emilie tries hard to overcome the cultural differences by her determination.

What do you think would be the end? Will they make it, or will they end their relationship in heartbreak?

This could be the ending of the story. If you wanted to know then just go and read this book.

Pov : I would like to say that's it's good to give a try and it can be a one time read.

A fiction, a documentary, a note. This is what I have to talk about this. Making 8 centres, the story traverse unchallenged/ undisturbed throughout.
The story granted me a free tour to the most elite lives. Made me feel privileged and guilty. Inspired to live a life that one who looks into it would feel inspired as much I'm after reading this. Told me to be brave, be different, be there where my heart is.
It's set in the Prabhu Wada, Wada Community. Picturing Surya and Gayatri as the owners of Wada, Aditi (Surya and Gayatri's daughter), Renu, Druv and Abby, & Emilie and Akinsa. Surya and Gayatri are considered Father and Mother in the Wada Community, they've really notable personalities.
Surya is an intellectual man, an early retiree from Army, great interest in poems, and sports, and have a keen eye for talented people. Gayatri, really brave, yet broken, but she finds her inner strength and fights to make her happy.
Renu, also an intellectual lady, was elated as president in the Parshad because of her Alpha traits.
Druv, a charming lad, fights many problems from childhood and has emerged as intellectual and respectable as his mother.
Emilie , a foreigner, had come to complete her studies and fall in love with Indian culture, especially those she seen in Wada. But she was surprised by the patriarchy here. And she pursues highest education. These people inspires a lot and showed the importance of being educated.
On the other hand, Akinsa, discards education and wants to pursue kabbadi as his career, he falls in love with Emilie.
Emilie and Akinsa's relation , although support by Surya, faces repulsion from both sides.

This is just an outline of the story, really inspiring one. So must read. All lives portrayed are ecstatic.

The book starts with the background story of wada. Wada a legacy which is maintained by the progeny.

Surya the adopted child of Prabhus married to Gayatri and Aditi brought up to the world of wada. And then story continues with new characters.

Akinsa a kabbadi player due to fire in their house they moved to the wada house and surya helped them so well by which Akinsa is good player now.

Then Emilie entered to the wada house as she is working in foreign exchange department.

Akinsa and Emili complimented each other very well. In a short span of time they became friends which led them to build a comfortable relationship with each other.

Destiny has it's own way. Akinsa is a indian boy and Emili is an NRI.

How the society will accept both of them?
How they will adapt each other caste?
Their cultural differences is the main hurdle of their lives.
Will they over come it?

I just like the concept of putting the rational thought in a very unique way. The narration is so good. The native language is also maintained throughout the book though that's not a problem as the English translation is there. The typical marathi vibe is there. The love for book is there. The love, the relationship between both the protagonists is described so structurally. But If you are beginner then I would suggest take it very slow so that you can feel the worth of the book and also get your dictionary ready.
