Tim Eagle's Walking Free reintroduces us to Sue, sometime after the events of Vasectomus, as she's about to participate in a peculiar ceremony, presumably something isolated to the town of Stevats. We find her wearing a mask as she takes her turn to publicly share her stories of Sabre. Sue joins in a ritual with other residents who gather together near a bonfire to share these often unflattering and purgative tales that wouldn't be appropriate at a funeral.
Sue's life before Sabre appears to be one of success and upward mobility, with a bright future ahead of her until she decides that she's missing only one thing, a family. Unfortunately for Sue, Sabre wasn't the best choice with that future in mind.
We discover that she knew of Sabre's machinations and that she was pulling strings to get what she wanted long before the events of Vasectomus took place.
And though she's a widow now, is it possible she might just have the family she was searching for, despite Sabre's protestations?
This middle story of the Vasectomus trilogy wasn't quite as peculiar and captivating as the first installment, but the ending certainly provides a snapshot containing a healthy dose of bizarre and unsettling family.

Who has two thumbs, and puts zero forethought into their reviews?
THIS guy!
(Seriously, if you’re looking for “insightful”, checkout Uncomfortably Dark)

Okay. So. Sneaky Mr Tim Eagle decided to one up himself by effectively rereleasing Vasectomus, with a splash of WMD-grade fierce female independence, and maternal instinct thrown into the mix.

If Vasectomus left you wanting, Walking Free smashed it out of the park. We have no idea how much time has elapsed between these two stories, but this one gives us all the character building ingredients we didn’t know we needed, to fully comprehend what a formidable force Sue is, was, and forever will be.

I don’t know where this story will take us from here, but I’m gonna go top up my water bottle and grab me some trail mix, coz there’s no turning back now…

I believe that every trilogy, anthology, or series has one entry that even though it is captivating it doesn’t shine as bright as the rest. Walking Free by Tim Eagle is part two of The Vasectomus Trilogy, and I will say up front it was my least favorite. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t awesome.

Walking Free is a different tale picking up a bit after Vasectomus. Sue is the main character in this entry, and the setting is definitely ominous and strange. As Sue tells her tale to a group her version of the events are somewhat vague, and favors her stance. Sue’s monologue is as though she is at an anonymous meeting. It is intriguing, odd, and much is left to reader interpretation. I do not want to give too much away, but the ending brings the story to a nice ending.

I really enjoyed this entry, even though I felt it was the weakest of the trilogy. I still give Walking Free by Tim Eagle three monsters out of five mysterious creatures. The trilogy would not be complete with this entry, and I assure you that you will want to read all three! Again, it is only available at http://www.godless.com.
